Deleted/edited original iPhoto files and photos import every time I connect
I think I may have done a bad thing...
I was moving photos from my computer to my external hard drive and deleted and edited some originals iPhoto files. Now, every time I connect my camera, every photo imports and it takes forever! Is there any way I reverse this or is this a lost cause?

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

I am trying to export the PDF file and conversion fails every time.
I am trying to export the PDF file and conversion fails every time. File is too large of too complex. What do I do? One file is about 55 mb and the other is 58 mb.
Try extracting part of the file and see if the extracted part can be Exported. If so, repeat with the next set of pages. When done, try to load all into the first file.

IPhoto: re-enabling photo stream every time?
i'm not using aperture (read here that some people are using both and then have problems)
and i've enabled photostreamed on all my devices and sucessfuly synced my photos on my mac.
however, every now and again, (i think every time i reboot) iphoto will ask me again to enable photostream?
isn't the point of it to happen automatically?

amirBoth my computers do this. I tried to rebuild my library and even re-installed iphoto, but neither fixes the problem. Very frustrating.

Aperture crashes on photo import every time

I have no third-party plugins or somesuch and have not altered the contents of my ColorSync profiles folder for yonkers. Further, import used to work in iPhoto until a few days ago. Same scenario when trying to import images into iPhoto, same crash thread, same entries. Any ideas what these colorsync, geode and redrock entries are trying to tell me? I#D be happ to play forensics if someone can point me in the right direction.

does it also happen, when you start Aperture or iPhoto from a different account ad try to import there? Just trying to find out if it may be some settings in your user library or an system wide installation.
what where the last software/hardware/firmware upgrades you did recently?

Why does iTunes say that I have to remove and reinstall it every time I connect my iPhone 4?
Okay, so I just received my new iPhone 4 (my first as well) and am trying to activate it. I have iTunes on my computer already. When I connected my iPhone to my laptop after launching iTunes, a dialog box with an error message saying something like my iPhone can't be used because the software hasn't been installed and that I'm supposed to run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes and then to reinstall iTunes again.
1.) I have gone directly to the website www.itunes.com/download, as it says in the activation guide, and tried to download iTunes from there. After speaking to technical support, apparently that's what I did wrong the first time. That, and I had the phone plugged into the laptop as well. Fail.
2.) I have opened iTunes from my desktop and "updated" the software directly from the iTunes store. Still I received the same message (as previously stated) with NO PHONE attached to the computer. Although, this time it said that my Quicktime was out of date. Uninstalled it, downloaded update. Epic fail.
3.) Lastly, I completely uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled the "new" iTunes. I officially suck at life.

I transferred files and photos from MacBook to iMac via ethernet cable and using migration assistant. However every time I transferred, it created a separate user and it transferred all files and photos again and again. So now I have 3 users accounts with all files and photos saved 3 times on same iMac !! Any idea how to avoid this ?
Yes, you ran into a very understandable problem.
When you use Migration Assistant, it cannot over-write the account that you happen to be using at the time. Upon migrating accounts, it will tell you that it is going to create a new one, but that message is easy to miss.
If you have three identical accounts, log in to the account you want to keep, and delete the redundant ones in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
Now that you know, the easiest way to migrate accounts is to use Setup Assistant when you first get a new Mac. That eliminates any possibility for this to occur, but most people are so eager to use their new Mac that they elect to migrate later.
That's OK too, but in that case you would want to create a temporary account whose sole purpose is to run Migration Assistant so that you may migrate your old one with an identical name. Be sure to give the new account Administrator privileges. When that finishes you would log in to the newly migrated account, and delete the temporary account. -
I write both JPG and DNG files in the camera. Camera is a Leica Monochrom. Photo, unlike iPhoto, seems to ignore DNG files and only imports JPG files when both are present on the SD card. JPGs are used for quick proofing on an iPad. DNG RAW files are edited on a Mac Pro (2013). Other than deleting the JPGs before importing images from the SD card, is there any way to force Photo to select and import only the DNG images?

I use an iPad to do quick proofs of my images. A JPG is good enough for a proof ( dust on the lens, composition, blown out image, etc. ). The iPad is JPG friendly and can load the images quickly. Serious editing takes place on my Mac Pro with the DNG files. I use the same workflow with the the Leica M 240. iPhoto has been a quick and easy importer to the Mac capturing all of the metadata in the EXIF sidecar file ( location, date, time, camera settings, lens type). A quick scan in iPhoto for the "keepers" let's me export those worth editing to Lightroom/Bridge/Photoshop. I typically shoot 50 images from three locations in a normal day. If I'm lucky I'll get 1 worth real work to add to the portfolio. -
When i put in a compact flash card iphoto automaticaly comes up to import my photos. I have to exit out of iphoto to use the editing softwear that i prefer to use every time. It is very annoying. How do i prevent this from happening? I have looked in system prefereces....maybe i am over looking something, Thanks
iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General -> Connecting Camera opens.... And select your preferred app.
You can also make the same choice in the Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and Aperture preferences.

If you found you have lost your important files, you can just download it from the online server.

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around. -

ThanksIt may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.

Why does my iphoto continue to say " photos are being imported to the photo library" every time I try to close? I have not been imported and this has been keeping me from closing for weeks.

Mountain Lion there seem to be a glitch that continually ask this on quit.

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
In Photos:
File ▹ Show Recently Deleted ▹ Delete All
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.

You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

How is this even possible? Opening DW changes desktop screen resolution
All of a sudden, whenever I open DW (from taskbar or start menu) it manages to change my screen resolution from high to very low (like from 1280x800 to 600x800). No other app causes this. Once DW is open I can then change the screen res, but reinstal

Since I downloaded the new version 7.0.4 on my iPhone 5s, it seems to run very hot and the battery power does not last as long. Has anyone else had this problem since the new version was loaded?

I can't seem to get my macbook pro to shut down, one or another Mac application, Mail, Safari, iCal (pick one) won't shut down and I get the Logout error, forcing me to force quit at least one application. Huge pain to shut down each day.
