Deleted Emails Do NOT go to trash (not sure where?)

Hi. Before LEOPARD upgrade - when I hit delete for emails (POP earthlink account) they did not go to TRASH -- I ended up finding them under user/library/mail/POP/deleted messages. THEN when I upgraded to LEOPARD I could NOT hit delete to delete emails -- had to drag them to TRASH (on my MAC - but not the EARTHLINK account) -- I then unchecked the"move deleted msg to a separate folder -- and now I CAN hit the delete button to delete -- BUT 1/they don't go to TRASH and 2/ they are NOT in the user/library/mail/POP/Deleted Message -- as pre-LEOPARD
Went to Apple Genius Bar - and was told at different times different things -- neither work -- 1/this must be a problem that they will have a patch for later? 2/for me to re-enter my account info and that this should fix it (did not)
Any suggestions?

Hi Ernie -- I wanted to let you know that you were correct and resolved my problem. I went to the Genius Bar -- and the issue at hand was as you said -- that my DELETED MESSAGES FOLDER did not have the .mbx suffix - so needed to create it. 1/ I went to mail and re-entered my account info (just to reset it) -- did not completely clear as this could have erased all of my messages. 2/ I then sent a mail to my SECOND POP account -- and then hit delete -- this created a new mailbox under trash. (for some reason this worked THIS time) 3/ I then went to LIBRARY/MAIL/POP2/DELETED MESSAGES and then this account DID have the correct Deleted Messages.mbx suffix. SO POP2 - working fine 4/ Backed up all emails (just in case) 5/Tried to delete a message in the POP1 account -- still would not work -- so COPIED the POP2 account Deleted Messages.mbx to Desktop and then replaced the existing POP FOLDER DELETED MESSAGES from the FIRST POP account with this.(perhaps there was an easier way to do this)? Then we ran rebuild.
Thanks so much -- as you really helped pinpoint the problem - so when I went to the Genius Bar - I could tell them WHERE the problem was! Happy Holidays.

Tell your friend to get an IMAP or Exchange mail account. From what you describe, your friend has a POP account, and that's the way POP accounts work.

  • Started getting repeat copies of deleted emails on iPhone and iPad, but not iMac...any solutions?

I've started getting repeat copies of deleted emails, every time I turn on my iPhone or iPad...but not my Mac...any solutions?
    Thanks

The inkjet spam email is the same one that is causing my iPad's issue! I'm having the exact same problem as you're having --touching the email or having the email at the top of the screen freezes/shuts down ipad. I've been to two Apple stores and no one seems to know what's going on, plus, they claim they haven't heard of this problem i suggested they go to the Apple Commnity to get a feel for what's going on.
No, the issue has never been resolved!!

  • How to delete emails on BB Z 10 and not on Hotmail account?

So I have been trying to figure out how to delete emails on my BBZ10 so if I let someone use my phone they will not be  able to snoop at my emails. When I delete them from my BBZ10 they are deleted from the server too. Is there a way to delete them on the phone only? Or is there a way to just password protect just the email account? That would be neat, password protect just one or two applications instead of the whole phone. Password protect Facebook only, Twitter only or an email account only.
    Thanks for your help.

deleted emails are also deleted from the server (no more BIS).
I don't believe that you can password protect email access. The password gets stored at account setup. If you change the account password, I believe that the Z10 will ask you for the new password. I don't know if you will have the option not to save it though.

  • ALL of my emails are now in my trash (not by my doing). How do I fix this?

Every single email is now in my trash. I have no idea how this would have happened. How can I restore the ones that were already in my inbox without manually going through each email in my trash and restoring it to the inbox. This is extremely concerning that this would even happen. Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as your immediate question: you can go to the Trash folder, left click on one email, hold down the Control key and press 'A'. All messages will be highlighted. Click and hold on them and drag them to your inbox.
As far as the initial problem, is your email account IMAP or POP? Have you made any recent changes?

  • Why are my deleted emails only staying in the trash folder for a month? How can I find older deleted emails?

my trash folder is only showing emails back to April 28th.

Does the account use POP, or IMAP?
If IMAP, your Trash folder is almost certainly on the server and as such, may be subject to the email provider's policy on trash/deleted folders.
Check what your provider's rules are on trash retention. You may be permitted to adjust the period for which they are held. Alternatively you can set Thunderbird to use a trash folder under your Local Folders account which will be on your own hard disk and thus invisible to your email provider.
And of course check the settings in Thunderbird for what to do with deleted messages. You can set it to automatically remove messages after a defined period. Look under Tools|Account Settings for deletion settings.
OTOH, if you're routinely deleting messages and relying on them being kept indefinitely, I'd suggest you rethink your procedure and not delete them until you're confident you no longer need them. Recycle bins, waste bins and the like are the first to go when disk space gets tight. Most email providers have a policy of automatically removing messages over a certain age from the Deleted folder, specifically to manage and reduce disk space usage.

  • I delete emails by putting them in trash.  I have even deleted all mail.  It all reappears no matter what I try!  The mail icon shows I have thousands of emails and I can't get rid of them!  Please help!!

I asked a question about deleting deleted emails but after trying to delete all mail, it said no mail but it still keeps reappearing.  The mail icon on the main screen says I have thousands of emails.  I've rebooted, hit the trash one by one but they still come back!   I'm going nuts!

That file could be set as a Launch Agent or Daemon in your ~/Library or /Library, You could try to look for it or Safeboot your computer and then empty the trash. Safebooting disables Launch Agents/Daemon and Third Party Kernal extensions. Here's the article to Safeboot OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

  • Delete Email from Server... or Not...

I have yet to see a single person raise the same challenge I am having with email. So, I suspect there must be a feature I am not configuring properly... or something.
I have configured a POP email account. I want to be able to delete from the server AND just from the handheld without going back into the configuration menu. Is there a way to do this? Just looking for the flexibility to keep some emails on the server AND eliminate spam from the server so that, when I get to my email client on my laptop, on the email I chose not to delete from the server remains. Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.

    ampullae,
There is a setting on the iPhone for POP accounts that will remove messages from the server. If you check in Settings > Mail, tap on your POP account, and go to Advanced, you will see an option to "Delete from Server." You can use the option "When removed from Inbox" so that when you move spam messages to the trash, they should be removed from the POP server. You can also set the frequency to remove deleted messages off the iPhone so that the messages you have in the trash will be deleted.
I would highly recommend testing this process with some test messages until you find the settings that work best for you, so that you do not end up deleting important messages by mistake.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • Deleted emails re-appear on device, but not On Exchange

    Hello,
Suddenly on the blackberry 8300 old emails that have been deleted reappear on inbox, and they not reappear on the exchange server.
Ihave the BES 4.1 and the exchange server 2003
    Can anyone help me?
    Best Regards,
    João Trindade

    Hi thundertrinas
Is it possible that these are filed messages?  The icon for a filed message is different than the icon for an email.  In your messages folder, click your menu key, options, general options and set hide filed messages to yes.  If the messages disappear then this is the case.
If they are indeed email, then were they deleted on the BlackBerry, in Outlook, both?  Do they appear as new messages or do they appear in the right sequence with your other messages?  If they appear as new messages, open one and scroll to the top and see what it is received using - BES messages should be coming from desktop.
Things you could try(try one at a time to see if it alleviates the problem):
1- Delete the desktop[cmime] service book - On the BlackBerry, go to options, advanced options, service book.  Highlight the desktop[cmime] service book, hit the menu button and select delete.  Get your BES admin to resend your service books.
2- Clear the messages database - This will erase all email from your BlackBerry.  Plug the BlackBerry into the computer and start the Dekstop Manager.  Go into backup and restore, and click backup and then save.  When the backup is done, click advanced.  On the right hand side highlight messages and click clear and then ok.
3- Security wipe device and reactivate - You should back up the device before doing this by following the steps in number 2 as this will erase all information on the BlackBerry (most you will get back when you reactivate).  Go to options, security options, general settings.  Click your menu button, select wipe handheld and follow the prompts.  When the wipe is complete  ask your BES admin to send you a new Enterprise Activation password and reactivate the handheld.
If none of that works, please give more details.
    Cheers!

  • HT2480 when I delete email from my PC, it does not delete from my iphone.

How do you set up the iPhone so that email you delete from your Microsoft Exchange account, while on your PC, is deleted from your iPhone as well

Those "instructions" really do not explain how to set anything up.
Is this a work email account?  If so, what does the IT department say about setting up email on the iPhone?
If it is a publicly available email account, like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail, follow the instructions provided by the email provider on how to set up the account.

  • I am unable to call up a folder from my documents files in pages. I haven't accessed it in a while but did not delete it and now cannot find it either through finder or a search of all saved documents. Not in my trash either. Where did I hide it?!?

I am unable to locate a folder in my document files in Pages. I haven't accessed it in several months and now cannot find it in the docs and folders when I go to "open an existing file ...", in finder, or the list of all saved docs. Can anyone suggest where I might have succeeded in hiding it? thanks!

Try Find Any File (also available in the Mac App Store). This will find hidden & invisible files as well as those in the various Libraries.

  • Finding deleted emails

Any way to get back deleted emails

    Checked trash, empty
    Checked my main computer, nothing
Checked settings could not find advanced as advised to find deleted emails

  • Search is showing deleted emails

The new search feature in 3.0 is displaying deleted emails that have been emptied from the trash. The same emails are not accessible at all from within the Mail program. I thought this was an issue when upgrading the system, but after a complete restore, without copying anything from a backup, the same thing is happening. Any way to permanently delete emails from memory so they do not show in spotlight search?

Recently upgraded to 3.01 and using spotlight search I've noticed the same. Maybe this explains why I'm sure my phone is slowing-up. Spoke to apple tech support today and I was told that the next O.S release will include something to remedy this and make it possible to clear the cache. I was informed they have been trying to resolve this issue and the O.S release is due later this month (Sept 09). The other suggestion given by tech support of restoring as a new phone seems a ridiculous way to sort this out - I'll wait for the new release. Just doing a restore will reload the previous info back on from the backup. Naming/restoring as a new phone will effectively mean there is no backup available to go onto the phone once it is totally erased. Hope this helps and makes sense
