Deleted emails returning to Inbox & no emails in Trash

I have had this issue for a while now.  I am using a Macbook Pro with Retina and the Yosemite OS, purchased in 5/2014.
After I delete several emails I often click out of my Inbox and click into one of my email subfolders or Trash or Junk mail...It doesn't matter where I click into.
I then return to my Inbox and all of the emails I just spent a good amount of time deleting have returned to my Inbox.
So a big time waster to have to go through and deleted all of these previously deleted emails.
What is the fix for this issue?
Secondly, I have set my email preferences to "Permanently erase deleted messages to Never", yet my Trash folder is empty.  There should be many emails in my Trash at this time.
Third, emails that I have read and so are no longer bolded in my Inbox have disappeared.  Where to?  I don't know.
What can I do about these three issues?
Overall, it really seems that my email is unstable using the Macbook Pro.  Quite frustrating.

Hi Eric, at this stage it is only happening on the mac with snow leopard, but the maverick mac has had its issues with other weird faults that myself and the other party's husband have nutted out some fixes for. I believe the snow leopard mac was doing a combo of dragging mail and right click move to folders etc to sort her mail out when this problem was recurring. I did look thru the support section here and one of the fixes was just to do the right click method which i suggested and so far all the mail that had played up originally are now staying in the folders they are supposed to be. I would like to say this fixed it but i will wait a few days first, seeing that there is also the spinning wheel that takes forever for this particular account to fetch and send mail that was not happening before i don't believe i am out of the woods next. Some extra info...on the problem computer there are 6 gmail accounts running thru macmail and all are imap enabled and generally have been trouble free, the amount of mail in the mail folder is staggering around 65gig plus which my other half protects with a passion ( don't suggest having a cleanup, it would be easier to take on a charging elephant)
Some of the other things i am contemplating are..... deleting the mailplist, deleting and reinstalling the problem email acc and also a fix i found last night that involves "delete all the files in the following folder: ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache" , not necessarily in that order. It is nice to be able to compose this at a sensible hour of the day not 1.30am like last night with a semi deranged wife wanting instant answers. I hope Eric this gives you enough info to hopefully point me in the right direction.
cheers Andy

    There are two ways that should work. When you are in the trash folder, you can swipe on the email in the list - left to right - and a red Delete button should pop up. Or you can select - Edit - at the top of the list of messages and then select the message and tap delete.
    Not sure exactly how this works - but if you have restrictions enabled - especially since you let your grandchild use the device - that may be restricting what you can do in the mail app. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you have it set to on - turn it off or see if you have mail restricted.

  • Anyone know how to delete emails from trash folder?

    I have hada Droid phone for about 6 months.  When I delete emails from my inbox it goes to a "trash" file (similiar to trash file in Outlook).  It is getting full.  Any idea how to delete from trash folder.  My wife also bought the same phone but she does not have a trash file.  No one at our verizon store can answer my question as to how to delete from trash folder and don't seem to know how I have a trash folder on my email account.

    I'd go on the P.C. side of your Mail and start clearing it will clean what's on the phone and the Computer i have done this Many time on my Gmail and Yahoo.. b33

  • HT1694 cannot delete email to trash on ipad

    Suddenly i cannot delete my email to trash. How to solve the problem?

    Reboot your iPad and try again.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.

  • How to stop mailbox from automatically deleting email in trash

    I would like to be able to store deleted emails indefinitely until I empty the trash mailbox. Even though I check "never" in the mailbox behavior, it only keeps the messages for 30 days.

    To add to what Glenn has said, note that I have done exactly what you want to do in Mail for some time without seeing messages older than 30 days get deleted.  So I think you've got something else that's deleting those messages.
    One other note: it's very easy to accidentally empty the trash and lose all those messages.  So I would recommend cleaning out the trash periodically and moving those messages to some kind of archival mailbox(es).  I keep a series of "On My Mac" mailboxes called "Trash 2012," "Trash 2011," "Trash 2010," etc, and I periodically move all messages from the trash into the appropriate mailbox.

  • Deleted messages returned to inbox after keying command shift L incorrectly

    I was in the process of flagging a message and for learning purposes attempted to do it with the keystroke combination rather than simply selecting the acton. silly me! The combination of flagging a message is command shift L but instead of using the shift key I used the page up or arrow up key. suddenly a bunch of messages that had been deleted returned in a grayed out state. I tried re-deleting them, selecting specfic inbox folders for example. I had some success but not all will go away. and now I just labeled a new message as junk and the message goes to the junk folder but a grayed out message with a flag symbol stays in the inbox and won't go away. What did I do when I messed up that key combination? I looked at some of the other related issues on this discussion. I did some research into the preferences and into whether or not there are the correct deleted messages folders in the pop account folders. I found some inconsistancies but since I've never been to those folders before I don't know if things were any different before my keystroke mistake. I just want to go back to the default situation that I had set up before this booboo. I had created 3 pop accounts and I may have had some preferences on the deleted items folders, but essentially deleted messges were going to the trash and I think they were in the trash. I probably hadn't been emptying the trash. Weird, on my PC when i deleted a message it was gone. with Mac they seem to be in a trash folder which must then be emptied. interesting. > Cutting the messages seems to disappear them for now...
    but I don't trust where they are going.
    What do you mean? They don’t go anywhere (well, they go to a temporary storage area so that you can paste them). That’s precisely why it works.
    I want to understand why the delete button doesn't function as it should.
    Probably because there is something wrong with the messages themselves that prevents Mail from being able to handle them properly in general and from moving them to any other mailbox in particular. If Edit > Cut didn’t work (and sometimes it doesn’t), you’d have to manually get rid of the associated *.emlx files and re-create the index afterwards.

  • TS3899 After deleting email to trash, email will reload again. How can this be fixed?

    Email keeps reloading have being sent to trash. Help!

    Go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars and tap on the name of the email account. Tap Advanced. Under "Deleted messages" tap Remove and set to one day. Then under Incoming Settings tap Delete from server and tap "When removed from Inbox."
    Also, be aware that if you delete messages while messages are downloading the server will not be notified of the deletion, and those messages will come back. So wait until all messages are downloaded before deleting any.

  • How do I mass delete email from Trash folder?

    Is there an easy way to mass delete the emails from the trash folder?

    In your settings>mail>account>advanced, there is a way you can set it to self delete after 1 day. This is the earliest setting to self delete the mails. If you need to delete all of them right away. Just open one of the mails and press the trash can icon at bottom. It automatically opens the next mail and you can just sit there thumbing the trash can until all are gone. Works for me, both ways.

  • How do I archive emails in mail and then delete them from my inbox?

    I need to archive a bunch of emails for a project, and I know that if I put them in a mailbox and then delete them from my inbox, they're gone. So, what's the most efficient way to save 100s of emails that will eventually need to be filed within a project file?

    // Sample code
    List resList = new Vector();
    MyObject obj = null;
    while(rs.next()) {
        obj.setXXX(rs.getXXX(i));  // Get from the resultset and set to the object
        resList.add(obj);
    // At the end of the loop, you have a Vector of objects holding data.What do you mean by returning Strings separately?

  • I have iphone 5c.  Having email problem.  Does not delete emails showing in inbox from date 8/27 thru 9/23.   When deleted, these same emails repopulate in inbox.  What is going wrong?  How do I fix the problem?

    Ihave iphone5c.  Does not permanently delete emails showing in inbox.  When they are move to Trash then inbox at first shows empty.  However if you leave Mailbox and return then all the emails that were previously deleted and now repopulated in Inbox.  I have tried various things like marking them "read" before deleting, then moving them to Trash, and they still return.  What is going wrong and how do I fix the problem?

    What your describing sounds lot like Nortons anti virus, but other do it to.
    Multiple copies of the same email over and over are almost always anti virus incoming mail scanning. Turn off scanning and the problem goes away turn it back on and it resumes.
    My guess is that your filter issues, and search problems are also related to this uniquitous and most ignored security tool that messes up far more than it should..
    Deleting the index
    I assume you mean the global-messages-db.sqlite. if you don't close Thunderbird and delete it now. Searches will be incomplete until it rebuilds and the time to do that will have a lot to do with how much mail there is and how busy the computer is.
    Now create an exclusion in your anti virus program for the Thunderbird profile folders. My guess is it is trying to scan the files in your profile every time Thunderbird tries to open them and generally turning things into a tug of war, which Thunderbird looses as it just does not wait around if files are locked. It expects exclusive access to it's files immediately, not in 10 minutes when the anti virus has done it's thing. So things get added to the index but not removed. Mails don't move as the destination or source file is "in use" etc.

    Bonjour Pierre,
    there seems to be a bug in iOS5 with regards to Bluetooth. THere are a lot of threads in here on this. We're all waiting for Apple to fix this...

  • After I delete emails, they return (recent move from MobileMe to iCloud)

    I recently moved from mobileme to icloud without difficulity. However, I've noticed after I read and delete emails, they return. I've check preferences and have verified the "store deleted messages on the server box" is unchecked as it should be.
    Is anyone else having this problem/do you know how to fix it?

    Well, unfortunately I don't have a single solution.
    However, my apple mail account seems to have "fixed itself". I had already deleted the icloud account in apple mail preferences and set it up again (twice), but that was not the fix because it continued to save all deleted emails in the inbox.
    Almost two days later I woke up one morning and started deleting emails thinking it wasn't going to work and to my supprise it did.
    All I can say is if this is the only problems us three are have for the moment we've gotten off pretty easy. Just give it a little while longer and hopefully it will fix itself.
    I appologize for not being much more help.

  • On my iMac, when I delete emails, they do not show up in the Trash and they reappear in my Inbox.

    If I drag emails from my Inbox to the Trash, they do not appear in either Trash subfolder—On My Mac or iCloud. And they reappear in my Inbox. Also, while I still receive new mail on my iPhone and my iPad, the new messages have not been showing up on my iMac Mail for about a week. My account  is iCloud IMAP.

    Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library
    1 - from an Event or the Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
    2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc.: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
    NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from an Event deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.
