Deleted emails stay in Inbox & copy to Trash folder (IMAP)

I have a Fastmail IMAP account, and when I delete an email on my iPod Touch 4G, the email disappears from the iPod's Inbox, and appears in the server's Trash folder.
When I log into the server via a web browser, I see that email is still in the Inbox! And.. it's also in the Trash!
How can I fix this?

Is this on Comcast email? Another email site?
Usually this is set in the options for the site, and not in Firefox itself.

  • Deleted email stays in Inbox

I have deleted an email but it will not remove from the "From" column. It has changed color from black to manila but I cannot get rid of it in the Inbox.

    Try rebuilding the mailbox -
click on the inbox in the list on the left
In the Mailbox menu - choose Rebuild
The other possibility is that you are using IMAP email which will change the color of a deleted message to show that the next time Mail syncs with the server that message will be deleted.

  • My deleted files do not go into the Trash Folder

Deleted emails do not go into the Trash Folder even though my configurations are correct and I have selected Trash Folder for my deleted files. Is something wrong with TB? This just started happening recently.
Also the auto-fill is not working correctly. When I start to type an email addr in Compose, non-related email addrs appear. I know that TB uses the 'within' range as opposed to 'starts with' but that still does not explain my problem. If I enter 'h' into the To: field, email addresses that do not contain the letter h anywhere (first name, last name, email addr, etc.) appear.
    Please help.

  • How can I increase the time deleted emails stay in the trash folder?

Sometimes I find that I need to refer back to an email that was deleted. Right now the emails are dumped from the trash folder very quickly. I would like to let the deleted emails stay in the trash folder for a much longer period of time.

  • I have iphone 5c.  Having email problem.  Does not delete emails showing in inbox from date 8/27 thru 9/23.   When deleted, these same emails repopulate in inbox.  What is going wrong?  How do I fix the problem?

Ihave iphone5c.  Does not permanently delete emails showing in inbox.  When they are move to Trash then inbox at first shows empty.  However if you leave Mailbox and return then all the emails that were previously deleted and now repopulated in Inbox.  I have tried various things like marking them "read" before deleting, then moving them to Trash, and they still return.  What is going wrong and how do I fix the problem?

What your describing sounds lot like Nortons anti virus, but other do it to.
Multiple copies of the same email over and over are almost always anti virus incoming mail scanning. Turn off scanning and the problem goes away turn it back on and it resumes.
My guess is that your filter issues, and search problems are also related to this uniquitous and most ignored security tool that messes up far more than it should..
    Deleting the index
I assume you mean the global-messages-db.sqlite. if you don't close Thunderbird and delete it now. Searches will be incomplete until it rebuilds and the time to do that will have a lot to do with how much mail there is and how busy the computer is.
Now create an exclusion in your anti virus program for the Thunderbird profile folders. My guess is it is trying to scan the files in your profile every time Thunderbird tries to open them and generally turning things into a tug of war, which Thunderbird looses as it just does not wait around if files are locked. It expects exclusive access to it's files immediately, not in 10 minutes when the anti virus has done it's thing. So things get added to the index but not removed. Mails don't move as the destination or source file is "in use" etc.

  • Can I recover a deleted email that is not in the Trash?

Can I recover a deleted email that is not in the Trash?

If you have a recent backup yes. Or, possibly, if you do not use your computer at all (so the hard drive is not written on) and get some recovery software or company to try to see if the file is retrievable (not cheap). Other than that, unfortunately not.

  • After adding a new account, I can't delete emails from the inbox of this account.

I just added a sixth account to my Thunderbird installation. There was no problem adding the account and I can send and receive emails without problem. However, I cannot delete emails from the inbox. What should I do to correct this?

    It is a POP account.
I just backed up the profile.
I don't know the size of the inbox nor how to see what it is nor change it. However, the inbox for this account is currently empty. (Yes, I know this post is about not being able to delete emails from the inbox, so how can it be empty? In my research I found a post of someone with the same problem who discovered he could move emails from the inbox to another folder and then delete that folder (not the individual mails in the folder, but only the entire folder). That is how I emptied the inbox, but it is a very cumbersome work around that I shouldn't have to do.

  • How do you mass archive emails in iclould mail?  I have 330,000 emails and what to move old emails from my inbox to a managed folder. Can anyone help?

How do you mass archive emails in iclould mail?  I have 330,000 emails and what to move old emails from my inbox to a managed folder. Can anyone help?

Winston - thank you for your reps but that is common sense... Icloud only displays 50 emails at a time. So your recommendation doesn't work if you have 330,000 emails in your inbox. I am looking for a way to do a mass move.. Like a filter or rule that runs in the inbox. Current rules can only work as emails arrive.
    Any other thoughts?

  • Deleted emails returning to Inbox & no emails in Trash

I have had this issue for a while now.  I am using a Macbook Pro with Retina and the Yosemite OS, purchased in 5/2014.
After I delete several emails I often click out of my Inbox and click into one of my email subfolders or Trash or Junk mail...It doesn't matter where I click into.
I then return to my Inbox and all of the emails I just spent a good amount of time deleting have returned to my Inbox.
So a big time waster to have to go through and deleted all of these previously deleted emails.
What is the fix for this issue?
Secondly, I have set my email preferences to "Permanently erase deleted messages to Never", yet my Trash folder is empty.  There should be many emails in my Trash at this time.
Third, emails that I have read and so are no longer bolded in my Inbox have disappeared.  Where to?  I don't know.
What can I do about these three issues?
Overall, it really seems that my email is unstable using the Macbook Pro.  Quite frustrating.

Hi Eric, at this stage it is only happening on the mac with snow leopard, but the maverick mac has had its issues with other weird faults that myself and the other party's husband have nutted out some fixes for. I believe the snow leopard mac was doing a combo of dragging mail and right click move to folders etc to sort her mail out when this problem was recurring. I did look thru the support section here and one of the fixes was just to do the right click method which i suggested and so far all the mail that had played up originally are now staying in the folders they are supposed to be. I would like to say this fixed it but i will wait a few days first, seeing that there is also the spinning wheel that takes forever for this particular account to fetch and send mail that was not happening before i don't believe i am out of the woods next. Some extra info...on the problem computer there are 6 gmail accounts running thru macmail and all are imap enabled and generally have been trouble free, the amount of mail in the mail folder is staggering around 65gig plus which my other half protects with a passion ( don't suggest having a cleanup, it would be easier to take on a charging elephant)
Some of the other things i am contemplating are..... deleting the mailplist, deleting and reinstalling the problem email acc and also a fix i found last night that involves "delete all the files in the following folder: ~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache" , not necessarily in that order. It is nice to be able to compose this at a sensible hour of the day not 1.30am like last night with a semi deranged wife wanting instant answers. I hope Eric this gives you enough info to hopefully point me in the right direction.
    cheers Andy

  • Deleted emails sent to INBOX

I have created a subfolder called "Deleted" in my account and have selected it to hold deleted messages with Tools\Account Settings\Server Settings - When I delete a message move it to this folder. I have also selected Empty Deleted folder on exit .
However, deleted files are moved to an account subfolder called INBOX that I did not create and cannot delete. This folder is emptied on exit, so the action is correct but in the wrong location.
If there is logic behind this, it eludes me.

This sounds like you have not got the correct folders selected.
You are displaying Two 'Deleted' folders and a 'Trash' folder. however, in webmail there is 'Deleted Items' (this is the server folder for trash/deleted emails) and ''Deleted' (the one you created)
IMAP mail accounts are designed to see and use folders that are on the server.
You subscribe to see those folders.
right click on mail account Inbox and select 'Subscribe'.
You should be able to subscribe to see :
    'Inbox', 'Sent', 'Deleted Items', 'Junk'.
I'm surprised there isn't a Drafts folder, so maybe the server does not have one available. no worries we'll sort that out later.
Let's try to get all the correct folders working as expected.
Unsubscribe from seeing the 'Deleted' folder which you created.
Then access webmail account and delete the 'Deleted' folder you created.
In Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the imap mail account
    Click on 'Advanced' button
Select : 'show only subscribed folders'
    click on Ok
    Clickon OK to save settings.
    Check the Folder Pane.
It should now only show subscribed folders.
Go back into Account Settings > Server Settings
    When I delete a message
Select: 'move it to this folder
There should be a 'Deleted Items' folder to select in the drop down selection.
Select: 'Clean up(expunge) Inbox on exit'
Click on 'Copies & Folders' for the imap mail account.
    when sending messages
    Select: Place a copy in
Select: 'Other' and select the Sent folder on the imap mail account.
For Drafts and Templates do the same .
Select : 'Other' and the Drafts folder on imap mail account
Select : 'Other' and the Templates folder on imap mail account
Tell me if these (drafts and Templates) options are not available.
Click on 'Junk Settings' for imap mail account
Select : 'Other' and the Junk folder on imap mail account
    click on OK
Then please show me a copy of the Folder Pane.

  • Httmpmail messed up Mail. Deleted messages stay in inbox now.

Alright, I already had Daniel Parnell's httpmail hotmail plugin installed. I saw he had a newer version and downloaded and installed accordingly. Then when I opened Mail, I saw that all my messages for the past two days were gone. Also, when I delete a message from my inbox in Mail, it greys out but still stays there, not moving to Trash.
I went into library>mail>bundles and deleted the httpmail plugin and restarted Mail but still have the same problem. I dont care about the stupid plugin now, I just want my messages back and want my Mail program to operate correctly again.
What can I do to fix this?

Try rebuilding your Mail index like this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file(s).
    3. Restart Mail and wait for it to import your existing mail. When that's done, everything should be back to normal.

  • Mac Mail keeps moving deleted emails back into inbox

How to stop Mail from moving deleted messages back to inbox?

I've had the same problem for several months. I can't archive emails to the archive folder. They keep moving back into the inbox. I have to keep moving them several times before they stay put.

  • Cannot delete emails and will not let me trash them

I have approximately now, 6 emails on my phone that have been deleted from my address in my computer but will not delete off my iphone 4 and it will not let me trash them either I get the error *unable to move message*  The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash can someone help me get rid of them?

I've had that in the past.  For some reason, moved or delete emails on one device don't seem to register on other devices on the same account for some time.  I had a service that took a day or more before a deleted email on A finally was deleted on B.  In the meantime, trying to delete or move when on B resulted in the same message.  Wait for it to straighten out on its own.

  • Deleted emails reappear in inbox on iPad and iPhone even in airplane mode

Whenever I delete either read or unread emails from my inbox on both iPad and iPhone 4 they re-appear in the inbox between 30 seconds and 1 minute later. I've seen other posts suggesting this might be due to the fact that I'm leaving my mails on the server so I switched my iPad to Airplane mode so that it couldn't check the server, I then deleted an email and sure enough 30 secs later it re-appeared.
    Does anybody have a fix?

    ok.
