Deleted Entourage Dilemma

Hello,
I am using a PowerMac G4 Cube and I had installed Microsoft Office 2004: Student Teacher Edition on it.
I am (or was) using Entourage and had ALL my email, contacts and groups stored in it. I was going through my Applications folder, deleting apps that I didn't need and I accidentally deleted the Microsoft Office Folder (therefore deleting Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Messenger and yes, Entourage). Is there any way of recovering my lost emails, contacts and groups, more importantly my contacts and groups, as I had most of my email backed up?

To be on the safe side, and speaking from experience, I would suggest that before you reinstall the full application Entourage you go to user>documents and remove Microsoft User Data to the desktop. Then install the application. After you have installed it, replace the now newly installed Microsoft User Data within the Documents folder with the old Microsoft User Data file on the desktop. Restart.
If it is only Entourage that you have been using and are concerned with, then you only need to replace the file Office 2004 identities within Microsoft User Data. Within that file Office 2004 Identities is the file Main Identity where all your Entourage data is stored.

Cannot delete Entourage database file

Aloha,
I am running Entourage (v11.3.6) from Office 2004. At some point in the distant past I had to rebuild my database, and created a backup copy of the existing database. That file, originally named "Database" takes up 2.49 GB.
Much later, I decided to delete that file to retrieve the 2.49 GB of disk space. However, emptying the trash causes a kernel panic. I tried a command line "rm" and got a kernel panic. I tried booting into safe mode, but it did not allow me to even try to delete the file. I tried "cat < /dev/null >! Database" and got a kernel panic. (This is a trick that can empty a file that is currently open and being accessed by a process, often a system process that you don't have complete control over.)
Permissions are wide open, the file is unlocked, I can rename it and move it without any consequences. The only thing I can't do is delete it!
I would appreciate any suggestion you have for further attempts.

Thanks for your help. I solved the problem. Apparently journaling does not allow files larger than 2096640 to be deleted. Turning journaling off via Disk Utility, emptying (successfully!) the trash, and then turning journaling back on worked.
Details:
I booted into single user mode (sorry...not safe mode as I had said earlier). This time, I noticed that it said the file system was mounted read-only, and to run fsck to check the file system and then mount the file system to allow read/write. The commands I used were
/sbin/fsck -yf
/sbin/mount -uw /
Note that the "-f" option on fsck forces the check, which was required because journaling was turned on.
After mounting the file system I tried
\rm xyz
and it gave me a much more informative kernel crash. In particular, the first line read
panic(cpu 0): jnl: transaction too big (2093568 >= 2096640 bufsize 4096, tr 0x1cf8fc8 bp 0x2747fdc0
Aha! Neglecting the fact that 2093568 is not larger than 2096640, it indicated that the file size was deemed too large for the removal, and journaling may be involved.
So, I rebooted into normal mode, opened Disk Utility, selected the file system, and then selected the menu "File–>Disable Journaling" (or I could have typed command-J) to disable the journaling. Returning to the Finder I emptied the trash, and voila, no kernel panic. (And I made sure my 2.49 GB was released!)

Delete Entourage

I'm having so much trouble using Entourage and would like to delete everything and maybe start over. I believe the problem is in the accounts but have not found the answer. If I use Yahoo for my mail, and sign on to Entourage to try to fix it, it gobbles all of the mail off Yahoo. So far I don't have problems with SBCYahoo.

I doubt Entourage is causing problems with the computer, albeit if it has very large contents in its mailboxes, it might behave slower when Entourage is open, but it should not come to a halt.
Is your data backed up? My FAQ here explains several methods how:

Any problematic computer needs to be backed up before being diagnosed if possible.

Entourage 2008 calendar deleted. How can i restore it from time machine backup?

I have my Entourage 2008 calendar sync with ical. I accidentally deleted Entourage on the left column of ical, and it deleted the calendar on on Entourage. I want to restore the calendar. I have used time machine to backup my hard drive. I just don't know how or what to do.

Quit iCal.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
~/Library/Calendars
Enter Time Machine and restore the selected folder from the last snapshot that was taken before the deletion. Relaunch iCal and test.

Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.

How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?

All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.

If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?

I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.

I have 1 user on a Mac who just started having a pop up message when opening entourage "The server for my email acount returned the error "Login Failed".

you like to try re-entering your password?" I know the settings are right because the users mail works on iPhone,iPad,an windows machine. I have deleted entourage plist and also tried a new user same message appears in new user.

Cannot Sync Entourage 2008 to Address Book

I have been using and syncing Entourage forever, and been syncing to iCal and Address for several years, especially since I've had my iPhone.
For some reason, and it seems very recent, no problem Syncing to iCal from Entourage, but I cannot Sync contacts to Address Book and vice versa. I have iCloud switched off, am on 10.7 and usually know what I'm doing.
I have tried deleting all Address Book contacts, resetting Sync Services in Entourage (after deleting all the relevant Preference Files) but nothing seems to work.
If anyone has a clue I'd be very grateful.

Not sure if you did everything in the correct order.
First, uncheck the Sync Contacts and Addresses in Entourage Preferences.
Quit Entourage and Apple Calendar and Address Book.
As you have Mountain Lion, I assume you know that to access your Library you have to press Option before you select Go in the finder?
Make sure you delete every preference file stated above, don't leave any out.
Remember to log out in the Apple menu. After you log back in, open up Entourage, select Preferences/Syn Services/ check the contact and address boxes, then (my preference) delete Entourage info.
Quit Entourage. Go and make a cup of coffee or watch some grass grow somewhere! If nothing happens in about half an hour, you still have a problem. But I would be amazed if this doesn't fix the issue.

Thank you for the advise, I also tried the "advanced" under MAIL/notes and was able to increase all deleted messages
By selecting " delete messages after 4 weeks" and/or by selecting "never" , all deleted are in a new box titled
"Deleted Messages " bypassing the trash box.

Making mac mail the default instead of entourage

How do you make mac mail your default instead of entourage . It is set up in mac mail reader to receive mail under mac mail 2.1. It still defaults to entourage . I cannot find any place in entourage to change it .

Your default mail program is set in Mail->Preferences->General. Choose which program you want from the drop-down menu, then quit Mail and restart it.
Of course, you'd be helping yourself if you deleted Entourage or at least removed all your account information from it, so that if you ever launched it by accident, it would not be able to send or receive email.

Trying to sync outlook 2011 with iCal but iCal only sees Entourage calendar. I have selected sync in outlook 2011 and it is correctly syncing with address book. I have installed sp1. Do i need to delete entourage cal from iCal?

Did i! Sync Entourage 08, Palm and on Leopard!

So, there has been a lot of talk about iSync broken on Leopard, so I didn't use it...
I had been using Entourage 04 and the MS conduit via Palm Hotsync to get my data onto my Palm Zire 72 for several years. I was disappointed to find that isync and Leopard do not sync to the Palm anymore, after the upgrade to Leopard.
Instead I used this workaround.
Enable Entourage 04 to sync to Apple ical/Address book using the Preferences (check ical and address book to make sure they are syncing properly). There should now be an "Entourage" Calendar in ical. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for changes to go from ical to Entourage04 and vice versa.
When you are happy this is working, back up your Entourage data just in case.
Then, start up Entourage 08 and import your Main identity from 04 into Entourage 08.
Then, also enable the Sync from Entourage 08 to ical/Addressbook.
Now, when you make changes to Entourage 08, they should sync to apple ical, then seamlessly to Entourage 04-> which will then use the old conduit to go to your Palm device. You can also make changes on the Palm which go the opposite way to Entourage 08.
Just be sure not to delete ENtourage 04, and you should be good!

Incidentally, i tried Plaxo for the mac and this lets me then send address book items to my Google Calendar, so I've achieved (for now) syncing Nirvana!

Did you select to replace all data on the phone with calendar information on your computer? One of these 2 things occured. check your settings for syncing your info

Address Book and Entourage 2008 - Problem with sync services in Entourage

Hi, all. Have had sync services working (I think) for some time but had duplicate contacts in Entourage from the syncing between in and Address Book. Turned off sync services in Entourage 2008, deleted all contacts in Entourage, then turned the services back on telling Entourage to delete Entourage info (instead of the other way around or merging).
Now I can't get any syncing to take place. And when I select the lone contact for me (that you have to have) and choose View, Synchronize Now is greyed out and can't be selected.
Any thoughts why syncing isn't working?

P.S. I tried to change the setting to combine instead of delete Entourage info and that had the same (non) effect.

I had a similar issue. I was able to sync my iPhone back to my Mac and that restored the addresses although all the categorization was lost. I have no idea why this happened to you.

Entourage Sync trouble

Since I installed Snow Leopard My Entourage calendar is not syncing correctly. I'm getting my Entourage email no problem. The issue is that my calendar is wack!

Yes, similar trouble here, since installing SL. I'm using Entourage 2004, and it no longer syncs correctly with iCal. Appointments entered into Entourage are shown as four hours later in iCal. In other words, an 8:00 AM appointment in Entourage shows up in iCal as 12:00 PM - even though both Entourage and iCal are set to Eastern Time (I'm on the East Coast) and Time Zone support is turned on.
However, the reverse is not true - appointments entered into iCal show up correctly in Entourage!
Also, Address book no longer syncs birthdays correctly which have been entered into Entourage. All the birthdays in Entourage were moved ahead one day in Address Book after installing SL. For example, a birthday of January 15th in Entourage, became January 16th in Address Book. Then I started getting "Inconsistent data" warnings whenever Entourage and Address Book try to sync through sync services. I had to go through and manually change all the birthdays in Address book back one day, to make them match the correct birthdays in Entourage. Somewhat of a pain!
And, Birthdays entered into Address book no longer show up at all in Entourage!
I tried replacing sync data on MobileMe, but that only compounded the problems. And after several hours of fiddling, deleting Entourage Calendars, redoing the calendars, etc. I finally managed to erase all of my calendars by syncing with MobileMe!
Until I can find a fix, I guess I'll just enter all data into iCal and Address Book, and let it sync to Entourage, rather than the other way around as I had been doing before.
It seems to be a Time Zone issue of some sort. I've heard that Microsoft Office 2008 fixes this problem. But, I'd like to know that for sure before I spend more money on the update! Anyone know?

Entourage opening rather than Mail

For attachments or when I click on e-mail links on web pages Entourage opens to send e-mail - I'd prefer it to be Mail - how can I set tis as there is nothing in the system preferences for Mail ?

In Apple Mail preferences in the "General" tab is a setting "Default Email Reader"
make sure that is set to Mail.
If you don't want to use Entourage and want to make the switch to Mail just import all your entourage mail in Apple Mail and delete entourage, that would take care of the issue too

Entourage won't Receive

Hi, I've used my iPad to read and delete Entourage emails for last few months......now I want to use my MacBook but it looks like there are 8,000 + emails to receive as the iPad and MacBook do not sync......MacBook does not seem keen to download any of this huge mass of emails....any suggestions?
