Deleted files HELP !

Probly the wrong forum , but ive accidentally deleted some files, anyone know any free apps to recover them ?

Never used it, but Data Rescue seems popular and has a demo period. Don't use your computer to download it, though--the more you use your computer, the more likely it is that your files will be overwritten and not recoverable.
Did you empty the trash? If not, check there first.

  • Startup disk full, can't get in to delete files, help!

    Help!
I got  the 'startup disk almost full' message so I was deleting files to make space when my computer froze, so I turned it off, now it won't let me back in again.
I get the start up chime, then it gets stuck on the apple logo with the progress bar, then a no entry symbol.
I tried starting it in Safe Mode but still can't get in.
This is very very bad, right?
I Have been using time machine to back up but I'm not sure if my most recent photos of my boy starting school last week had been backed up yet or not... I've uploaded them to facebook and instagram and had emailed them to the grandparents so they won't be totally lost but still :/
Can anyone help or am I totally screwed?!
imac was was purchased in 2009 and I *think* the last update I did was to Yosemite..

Start up holding down Command + R and then go to DiskUtility and try repairing your disk from there. As a last resort, you may need to erase or even replace your Hard Drive, but try that first. If it is not booting from there the chances are pretty good that your Drive has died.

  • HELP!!! Quicktime Crashed and Perminanlty Deleted Files HELP!!!

I was trimming a movie file in quicktime when the application crashed. Upon crashing I saw my file get deleted from my computer. It isn't in my trash bin or anywhere on my computer. I DID NOT DO THIS, why did quicktime delete my file? How can I recover it? Someone please help meeeeee.

This is a video file taken with my camera. I exported it onto my computer.
If you exported the file to your computer, then the exported version of the file should still be on your computer unless, a) you never actually stored it on your computer, b) deleted it, or c) overwrote it by saving a different version to itself. Therefore, the question becomes "How did you 'export' the file to your computer?" and "Which version of QT were you using to trim the file?"
It deleted the original source file is what I'm saying... When I went to trim the video to make it shorter quicktime crashed and erased the Source File, the original and the only copy that I had.
Normally I would say this is impassible unless you deleted the source file manually during the editing process before the crash. The crash should simply lose all edits made before the crash but not affect the source file. Even stting the source file to a zero frame playback doration in QT 7 Pro and then saving the playback pointers would not delete the original file. And, even though your could not play the data with the QT player, the file would still exist and the data would still exist in the file whilch third-party players could still play. The only way I can force this to happen is to open the file in QT 7, copyth the data to temporary memory, delete the original file, begin trimming, and then have QT crash while working on the "temporarily" stored data in the "project" player being edited.
It's not in the trash and file recovery programs aren't finding it either. It has left me very confused and with a very bad image of Quicktime in my mind.
Editing projects are, by their very nature, "nascent" until they are exported or saved. Therefore it would not appear in your trash nor would the source file appear in the trash unless you put it there. Some forms of editing (like QT 7 trims using in/out references) can be written to the source file container which will prevent your accessing the data in the QT player but does not physically remove the data from the file container.
Without knowing your specific workflow and apps used, it is difficult to try and guess what might have happened.

  • IPod video Deleted files help

Hello - The files were deleted off of my computer iTunes. Therefore, we have neither the music, nor the playlists associated with the iPod, on which we already had a bunch of music an video we would like to keep. Is there any way to be able to hook up the iPod to the now oblivious iTunes, and not lose any music and, in fact, be able to add to the iPod itself, without losing any of the music?
Perhaps, some way to repopulate the iTunes program with the playlists from the iPod?
    Thanks!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Deleted Files - Help Please

If I Have Purchased Video's / Games On Itunes And They Were Deleted Is There Anyway I Can Get Them Back?
    Thanks

    Hi Joefleming,
Sorry to hear what happened to you...
You can only get them back if you any type of backup equipment.
If not, you're in serious trouble. Then the only thing you can do is to ask Apple a re-download. They will probably refuse to give you, but will not losae anything. Click on the following link and explain what happened to you:

I have macbook pro 13" I want to know how to copy files from my mac to the external Toshiba Hard Drive. I can't even delete files from my external hard drive. please help me my macbook HD is almost full and I have to copy my images to the Toshiba HD

To delete files from your external HDD, attach it to your MBP and drag the unwanted files to trash and then empty trash.
Then you select the files that you want to transfer by 'drag and drop' to the external HDD and trash the files on your MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Help - deleted files won't go away!

I am trying to permamently delete two files that I no longer need, but which had previously been deployed. Whenever I deploy my application, these files cause me to get the error "The asset is deployed and cannot be deleted. To delete the asset, first undeploy it." Okay, but it won't let me undeploy a single file, so I undeployed the entire application. Afterwards, I still wasn't able to delete the files.
Just wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to permanently get rid of these files?
    Thanks!

Follow these steps to delete files from local machine.
    1. Close Workbench ES2 (if already opened)
    2. Goto C:\Users\<YOUR_USER_NAME>\Workbench ES2\<APP_SERVER_NAME>\<APPLCIATION_NAME>\<VERSION>
    3. Delete the files which you no more required.
4.Open Workbench ES2 and click refresh on seletec application.
You will get rid of the "Cannot delete" problem.

  • I need help with Tiger 10.4.11 saving / deleting files on a Win 2003 Server

Some of my Mac users are experiencing extremely slow file saves to my Windows Server 2003 server. It is not specific to file types. Illustrator, Quark all take forever and the file size is not the issue either. They are also having to force quit Finder after attempting to delete files from the Server.
I have found that if they boot into Safe Boot they can delete the files without a problem. As soon as I do a normal login the problem returns.
The problem seems to be specific to the machine. If user A logs on to her Mac she has problems deleting files from the server. If she logs into a Mac that isn't having problems (using her login) she doesn't have problems. If User B who has no problems on her Mac logs into User A's Mac then User B will have the same problems.
In order to rebind the Mac to the Active Directory I had to remove the Mac from AD. So I don't think it's the Computer's SID. I even tried unbinding the Mac, changing it's name and then Binding it to AD. Same problems.
I thought it was the Mac and just wasted a day wiping the Mac and reinstalling everything on it, but when I went to delete a file from the Server, finder locked up and I had to force quit finder.
I even changed the IP Address of one of the Macs having problems, but that didn't work either.
I've done a Permission repair as well with no change.
    Anyone help?

OK, there was a System Events in the System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items, but after removing it and restarting I still had to force quit finder after attempting to delete some files off of the server.
I do not have (or can't find) the /private/var/run/startupitems.
The Library/StartupItems has 2 entries: AdobeVersionQueCS2 and IntegoCommon, both of which I removed the other day and tried to delete files after rebooting with the usual (not good) result.
In the System/Library/StartupItems there are 16 items. I will list them as I am not sure what shouldn't be there. I believe that they should all be from Apple though:
    Apache
    AppleShare
    AuthServer
    CrashReporter
    Disks
    FibreChannel
    IFCStart
    IPServices
    Metadata
    NetworkTime
    NFS
    NIS
    PrintingServices
    RemoteDesktopAgent
    SNMP
Thanks for your help so far.

  • I just emptied my trash and I deleted important files HELP!

I accidentally deleted files from "all my files" emptied my trash and realized what I did was not what I meant to do. Can I get these files back?

Easiest recovery method: Copy the file off a backup drive.
File recovery software: I'ts been a while since I did this.  It is pretty involved and may require a complete file recovery attempt, not just on a single file.  Try using an application such as Data Rescue 3 - http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php or FileSalvage - http://subrosasoft.com, or one of the ones listed in the somewhat old link below. Some have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files.
    http://data-recovery-software-review.toptenreviews.com/mac-recovery-software
It is critical that you do not use the computer or even turn it on until you have rescued your files. Files only have the directory reference to them removed when you empty the trash or otherwise delete them from a computer (unless you use secure erase, in which case they are gone forever or can only be potentially be recovered by very expensive means) and are still present on the computer. However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is risk that your files will be overwritten by the computer.

  • 10.4.6 Update Moved or Deleted Files. HELP

I did the update and restarted my computer. When it came back on all the files and links on my desktop were gone and the link with the house was almost empty. I still have most pics, music, and docs but those few things are really bothering me.
I have had my eMac G4 for about a year. I know I am new but any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
my suggestion would be to run a search for files that have been 'created or modified' since you did tyhe update, your computer may have move the files inadvertantly, but i've never heard of the system 'deleting' files entirely like this...
    regards,

  • I can't login, keep geting "Your  Startup Disk is Full" and asking me to delete file. if I cant login how can I delete files? Please help

I Keep getting "your startup disk is full" ..... "You need to make more space available on your startup disk by deleting file..."  If I can't have an acess, how can I delete files. Please help..

That means the hard drive of your computer is full, and you don't have enough free space on your computer, to do what you are trying to do.
You need to clear up space on your computer.
If you hard drive is full, check the following places to ensure they are not holding unwanted data.
    - your trash can in the dock
    - if you use iPhoto, your trash in iPhoto - launch iPhoto, and select trash in the left hand column.  iPhoto has it's own trash, and is often overlooked
    - your download folder - finder / home user / downloads - every time you download something, it stores it here. This is often overlooked as well
    - do you have more than one user on the computer?  If you do, ensure they are needed.  If not, delete them, and the contents of their home folders
If you hard drive is very full, you may want to consider the following:
    - putting in a newer larger hard drive - (call you local apple store for prices on this)
    - deleting data off your computer
    - moving data to an external drive - (iPhoto Libraries, iTunes Libraries or iMovie events, as they are the biggest space hogs)
