Deleted files on camera

I have a question. I accidenlty formatted al my files on my camera and I need them. Can I bring them into a best buy and have them repair it for me and get the lost files back. How much would it cost too to get it fixed
also I dont c this as impossible as there are things u can buy to get them back I tried a demo but i couldnt save them cause I would of had to purchase the program which was over 100 bucks which is not worth it

Hi ddog,
You can bring your memory card to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy® store, and they could send the memory card out to the service center to attempt a data recovery to get your images back. Data recovery is never a guaranteed success. The Geek Squad® charges $59 for the initial assessment, and the data recovery itself starts at $259. You could try recovering the data yourself by using a data recovery program, and I wrote about this here. I hope this information helps out!

  • Photo Downloader - delete files from camera results in device is not connected or busy

    Hi,
My user use Adobe Bridge CS6 since a few weeks. They also made a transition from Windows XP to Windows 7 (32 bit). All my users have the issue in Photo Downloader. They can download the pictures into their network folders, and when the import is completed Photo Downloader asks if the user wants to delete those pictures from the device or card reader. When the user clicks on Yes, it results in the (some what) following error: Device is not attached/connected or busy. Since we use the Dutch language it is a free translation ;-). Now my first thought was that maybe Windows sees the device as a Read Only device and that is why he can't delete those pictures. If so, I have to search for the solution in our policy's and USB/device management. But I am not familiar with Adobe Bridge.
    Thanks!

Sorry to be the messenger with bad news.
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • How to delete files from an attached camera after downloading?

New to Aperture 2. I am sure to have a lot of exploring to do but for now I am looking for a way to delete files from an attached camera after downloading like you can with iPhoto. Is this possible?

While I might be a bit paranoid, I prefer to format in the camera after verifying that the import came out OK. It is a small price to pay to make sure that my images are actually on the computer. I don't do anything fancy, just make sure that the thumbnails come up correctly, and maybe perform an edit.
While it was not my images, thank goodness, I did get bit in a similar fashion. I use a "watch fob" style GPS unit for Geocoding. I have hoodahgeo configured to delete my tracks after import. Well, after one session I forgot to update my images with the gps information. As you can guess, when I re-opened HoodahGeo to try and re-geotag, the tracks were gone, so I was out of luck.

I have recently changed to an iMac from a Windows PC. How do I delete files and reformat the memory card in my helmetcam?

If you return the memory card to the helmetcam, it may choose to reformat it before use; back to some FAT-16 or FAT-32 format many of these third-party cards and cameras use. Unless you were going to use it for Mac OS X and format it with HFS+ or in a partition map for Mac data, etc.
If not, the easiest way to reformat the card may have been in the camera itself. I've formatted several kinds of camera cards, drives, USB flash drive, and others. The means varies with the intended purpose. Sometimes the default is the best; since it is platform neutral if the device is seen by both players.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    Welcome to Discussions, nirush
    (1) If you have made a backup of your Mac's hard drive, you can restore your Mac from the latest working backup. Time Machine is particularly simple to use for this sort of thing, but clones or other backup methods can work, too:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/9052.html
    (2) If your iMac is so new that you have not ever backed it up, now would be a good time to get an external drive so you can start a regular backup routine as soon as you get your Mac working again. Your retailer can help you select one that is good for your system and the way you use it.
    (3) Troubleshoot your iSight as suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your Apple apps work when you troubleshoot and your only iSight problem in any user account is with Skype, you only need to reinstall the Skype app.
However, if your iSight does not work with Apple apps either (examples: QuickTimeX and iMovie) in any user account you test, the easiest thing to do is to reinstalling the software that came with your iMac. After reinstalling your Apple software, iSight should work with the Apple apps. If you need help reinstalling your Apple software, see the User Guide manual that came with your iMac.
If Skype still does not work after reinstalling the Apple software, you will need to reinstall Skype, too.

  • PE 13 Does Not Delete Files From SDCARD or Camera When Importing

I recently updated from PE 12 to PE 13.  Now, when I import pictures, even though I use the option to Verify and Delete files, it never asks and never deletes any files.  I tried changing the setting and changing it back but that doesn't help.
If you are responding, please don't tell me not ot use this option.  I have been using it since PE 1 and never lost anything.  I know how to recover from any problems that may crop up.  I know many of you don't trust PE and always save the SD card until you have verified the contents of the library and backed it up but that's way too much trouble for me.

The card is not locked, it's work in Lenovo Idea Pad s10 without any problem, It's also work in my Pentax camera.
I'm almost sure that the problem is software, but can't find solution.
Could Any one help me please?
Laptop is new, 8 days in use.

I have network shutdown 2.0.1 installed and the pcns process normally would be abend in 1 or 2 minute's time. What could be the problem ? Consider to upgrade the network shutdown to 2.2.1 version. Could the problem be resolved in new version ? Any precaution needs to be taken when installing the new version ?

  • How to delete files from start up disk

Please help. After my macbook air is on for 2-5 mins, it comes up with I need to delete files from my start up disk. I went into start up disk and the only thing in there is the OS X system. So, then a small box appears. and tells me my memory is full and that I need to force quit applications. Sometimes the only application that is on it is finder. At this point the macbook air then freezes and I have to turn it off holding the button down. When I go to turn it back on it will often not turn back on. This laptop is only 11months old and running the new OS X system (mountain Lion) that just came out.

Use Grandperspective to visually map all files:

  • With icloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from camera roll. I run an older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. Can I transfer pics from i stream to camera roll to allow a non-icloud back up to my PPC? Precious photos are close to 30 day cut-off

With i cloud set up on my 4GS I deleted photos from Camera Roll to make space knowing I would have them backed up on icloud via Photo Stream. I now find that my older PPC G5 with Lion which wont run icloud. I have an ipad3 too, which of course does. I want to copy photos from Photo Stream back to Camera Roll on the phone so that I can back up "old school" to iphoto on my ancient mac. The controls seem to suggest that as an option but when I select multiple photos in Photo Stream and select "Save to Camera Roll" the photos do not appear on Camera Roll as expected. I am running close to the 30 day limit and do not want to lose hundreds of precious photos (or have to email them to myself individually). Can the ipad3 help at all? Any ideas good people? Dan

If only it were that easy Winston. I connect with a USB cable, iphoto opens and I can only see the photos in Camera Roll, not Photo Stream. There does not seem to be a way of aceessing other files in the phone from iphoto and, as in my initial message, I can not transfer the photos to Camera Roll on the phone. My iphone and ipad software is up to date, but my iphoto is '08 version 7.1.5 with my mac running 10.5.8 which is the best I can do on the PPC without messing everything up.  I dont have the dough for a new mac or I would have gone for that option...am I stuck?

  • Installed OS X Snow Leopard on external HDD, now won't allow me to delete files from Mac internal drive

    Hi,
I am stuck!  My 1 TB iMac 27" decided to stop booting up and would only stay at the grey screen with the apple, gear turning and progress bar. When it got to a certain point on the progress bar it would shut down.  Thanks to so many helpful people and their experiences I was able to try many different things including (Command + S, typing /sbin/mount -uw / enter , chmod 775 / enter, logout enter, then rebooting holding down Command + V) and (Reinstalling OS X and using Disk Utility to repair - came up with Disk can't be fixed).
Nothing worked until I read a couple of very wise answers who said "Your hard drive is not dead, but too full...keep at least 10% free at all times". I was down to about 1% (ooops!)  Thankfully hubby had bought me an external HDD for Christmas, onto which I installed OS X and being connected to my iMac, it recognized my internal Macintosh HD and all my files are there.  Phewww!  But I don't want to use my external HDD as my startup disk, I wan't to keep my Macintosh HD for startup but it is too full to repair and select as startup.
My problem is that I cannot delete files from Macintosh HD, and I've tried to unlock files/folders but they don't seem to be locked.  But when I drag them to the trash can it says "The item ... can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted."  Again, many helpful answers online, but nothing is working.  I have 2 Finder windows open, one with external HDD (new startup disk), and old HDD (Macintosh HD) but all items in Macintosh HD can't be altered or deleted (right click doesn't highlight to change the name).  So if I can't delete my files, I can't reinstall OS X and repair disk and select it as my startup disk.  I'd be so thrilled if someone can help me.  I have tried unlocking folders, and I downloaded 'Trashit'. Neither worked, so I figure because it has the little pencil crossed out on the menu bar that it is protected somehow...I just don't know how/what to do.  Thanks

Ok, so I'll try set it out a bit clearer than my first post,
This is what I've done, and the results:
    1. My son unplugged working iMac Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2, 1TB with only 11GB available space
    2. Turned it on and got the white screen, apple, turning gear and load-up bar
    3. Turned Mac off and waited 1/2 a minute.
    4. Turned Mac back on...(same as 3.), tried again many times
    5. Began searching internet for answers (see original post)
    6. Found answers and did the following:
                   1.     Put OS X installation disk into drive
                   2.     Attached External Hard Drive
                   3.     Installed OS X onto External Hard Drive (With a different name & password to original HDD)
                   4.     Found Macintosh HD still worked so tried to delete files only to get message saying                                           files couldn't be deleted (see original post)
I've tried changing the permissions in 'Get Info' and this is what happens:
1.Right click Macintosh HD - says "You can only read"
Name: System - Read & Write
                                                                 Admin -   Read & Write
                                                                 Everyone - Read only
2.Click on padlock to unlock - doesn't turn black to be able to change anything
3.Check the box "Ignore ownership on this volume" (someone else advised to do this)
    4.Name changes to 'mydrive (Me)'
5.Lock padlock and Name still says mydrive (Me) but still 'You can only read'
I don't know what is wrong or what to do, but perhaps you are right LowLuster, that because I named them different names it is protected in some way.
My thought now is to copy all my files to the external HDD and then erase and install again on my internal HD, but I really need my calendar, emails etc from my old HD and not sure they can be found on the old HD to copy over.
    Still stuck!

  • How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.

How do I get photos from the iPhoto import folder to the iPhoto library?  It uploaded, but hung while deleting from my camera, so no imported photos are in the iPhoto library.  I watched it upload about 400 photos, one by one.  They're somewhere, but they don't appear in the iPhoto library. As iPhoto was deleting them from my camera, it got hung up, then a message came "you should eject before disconnecting a device."  I hadn't touched the camera.  The message came by itself.  I couldn't get iPhoto to respond, so I disconnected the camera and did a Force Quit.  Opening it back up, the pictures were gone.  Can somebody help me?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Assuming it's iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto 08 and Deleting Files

I recently upgraded from iLife 06 to ILife 08 and having major problems with new version of *IPhoto 08.* First and foremost, messages began showing that my startup disk is almost full and to delete unwanted files. I'm assuming this is happening because of ILife 08 installation including SuperDuper and Lacie external hard drive. No matter, before doing any installations I did massive backups to external hard drive and cds. Once ILife 08 was installed, I began deleting unwanted pictures within *_IPhoto Library via the Finder_* including File browser when I had Photoshop open. Unbeknownst to me, this is not recommended due to possible corruption of IPhoto. OK, apparent this is happening because when I go to IPhoto there are blank photos when I do a full screen.
My question is what is the best way to delete ALL originals and duplicates of older iphoto 06 pictures including other unwanted pictures in current IPhoto 08 Library? Will I have to uninstall IPhoto 08 then go into my finder and start deleting pictures like I used to do whenever I wanted to delete files? Of course, even then I always had blank photos within IPhoto.
BTW, with ILife 08 installed, I have deleted (trashed) all sorts of applications such as iMovie, and iDVD to free up space. This has made barely any difference. My main criteria is to delete HUGE pictures no longer needed in my IPhoto 06 (or rather IPhoto 08 too) Library Folders. Also considering I'm tapped with my current disk space, currently unable to download any programs such as duplicate annihilator, etc.
Hope this isn't to confusing. Any help overwhelmingly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    June

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Let's get this out of the way:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
The way to delete pics from iPhoto is to do it in the iPhoto Window. Drag the pics from the Library to the iPhoto trash. iPhoto Menu -> Empty the trash.
Deleting a pic here or there is not going to make a difference to your HD space? How big are these pics? 2 - 5 mb if they're from a point and shoot camera, 10 - 15 from a dslr? Why not move your library to the external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
As you've been mucking about in the iPhoto Library Folder then you'll need to start over and create and populate a new library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    To use Photoshop with iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    Regards
    TD

  • Mini telling me to delete files on startup disk

A screen started popping up last night telling me to close all my applications to create more space and that I needed to delete files off of my startup disk because it is too full. I'm not sure what files to delete, and/or, if I should even pay attention to this notice.... Help!
Also, I was only running Safari when the notice came up. It happened twice last night and once this morning.

If your computer is locking up and if you have been running out of room on your hard drive, you should make sure your hard drive has not suffered some corruption by running Utilities > DiskUtility and verifying the hard drive.
BTW you should try to keep 10% of your hard drive free space, for better performance. And if you can't do that, at least keep 2 Gigbytes or more free. (OSX gets very unhappy when it runs out of room -- and bad things start to happen.)
