Deleted files return

Hi,
when I delete files in Windows Explorer on Win7x64, NC2SP3IR5 on a mapped share (NSS, SLES10SP3, OES2SP3), some of them (depends on the folder) return immediately, which I can see when I hit F5.
If I delete them in console on the server, they don't return.
How can I delete them permanently from the Windows workstation?
Is there a way to disable this behaviour?
Michael

Does this file happen to have numerics for its name? Chances is that its either a login script file or is being called via the login script and its got, somehow, "permanently" held opened. Generally in such cases, short of restarting ndsd there isn't much of an option. Of course, needs to determine how it is used would be a starting point of preventing it from happening again.
Yes, there are numerics in its name ("PDFXVwer_2.5.214.1.exe"). They are windows .exe setup files, so no login script or sth. like that is using it.
If I keep on trying to delete, it may work then.

  • Deleted files automatically return

    Hi there,
    I have a strange problem. Somehow when I delete a collection of .torrent files (and empty secure my trash), after a while the deleted files 'automatically' return in my movies-folder. I want them deleted...
    What can cause this problem?
    It drives me crazy!

    The deleted files reappear after several minutes, I can't find what triggers this.
    In a terminal session this came up:

  • How to open files with "return" key and delete files with "delete" key?

    Hi friends,
    It's been over a week since I got my iMac and I'm loving it. However, while I'm adapting alright to 'mac' key shortcuts (e.g. using the COMMAND-S for save as opposed to CONTROL-S used in PC).
    However, there are 2 things that are annoying me greatly right now.
    1. I like selecting files with keys as opposed to using the mouse. I make animations and prefer keyboard shortcuts. However, when I hit "return", instead of opening the file it goes into file-renaming mode. How do I change this? Likewise, I would like to delete files by hitting the delete key. This does not work - how do I change this?
    2. When I click SHIFT key sometimes, it gets 'stuck' - which is annoying because I start typing CAPITALS when I wasn't aware I've activated the CAP-LOCK key. How do I get rid of this? Like, I don't want to hit SHIFT for instance, and have that up arrow thing 'stuck' there.
    Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
    Thanks for the star.
    If you went into Mac Help & searched, 2 results come up:
    Full keyboard access shortcuts for interacting with items (for selecting & activating controls).
    Full keyboard navigation keyboard shortcuts (for navigating Desktop, Windows, Menu bar etc)
    From the lists, select the link that closely describes your situation.
    I have to say that I can't reproduce your problem, does this happen just in applications or in everything? I don't know if it's to do with this but pressing Shift 5 times turns on Sticky Keys & Option(Alt) 5 times to turn on Mouse Keys (System Preferences>Universal Access>Keyboard).
    After typing "Sticky Keys" into Mac Help, I found this:
    "Pressing a group of modifier keys as a sequence
    To perform many tasks on your computer, you need to press one or more modifier keys (Shift, Command, Option, and Control) at the same time as another key. For example, pressing Shift-Command-Q in the Finder opens the Logout dialog.
    If you have difficulty pressing several keys at once, you can make it easier to press a set of keys by turning on Sticky Keys in the Universal Access preferences pane. With Sticky Keys turned on, you can press a set of modifier keys as a sequence. As you press each key, the symbol for the modifier key appears on the screen.
    Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Universal Access. Then click Keyboard.
    Select the On button next to Sticky Keys.
    To hear a sound whenever the computer registers that you have pressed a modifier key, select "Beep when a modifier key is set."
    To see an icon indicating which modifier keys you have pressed, select "Display pressed keys on screen."
    You can also use Slow Keys to adjust the amount of time between when you press a key and when it is activated."
    Any of this close to your problem?
    Steve
    Edit: I'm right, it's Sticky Keys:

  • Cannot delete file ...bug?

    This appears like a bug to me...see if you agree.
    A file opened for read-only access and memory mapped using the map method of FileChannel cannot be deleted even when the channel is closed. An example of this is the simple Grep.java example from NIO modified only to try and delete the file. On Win2K, the delete fails. Once the channel is closed, it should be able to delete the file. Is this a bug?
    import java.io.*;
    import java.nio.*;
    import java.nio.channels.*;
    import java.nio.charset.*;
    import java.util.regex.*; public class Grep {     // Charset and decoder for ISO-8859-15
    private static Charset charset = Charset.forName("ISO-8859-15");
    private static CharsetDecoder decoder = charset.newDecoder(); // Pattern used to parse lines

    private static void compile(String pat) {
    try {
    pattern = Pattern.compile(pat);
    } catch (PatternSyntaxException x) {
    System.err.println(x.getMessage());
    System.exit(1);
    } // Use the linePattern to break the given CharBuffer into lines, applying
    // the input pattern to each line to see if we have a match
    private static void grep(File f, CharBuffer cb) {
    Matcher lm = linePattern.matcher(cb);// Line matcher

    while (lm.find()) {
    lines++;
    CharSequence cs = lm.group(); // The current line

    pm = pattern.matcher(cs);
    else
    pm.reset(cs);
    if (pm.find())
    System.out.print(f + ":" + lines + ":" + cs);
    if (lm.end() == cb.limit())
    break;
    } // Search for occurrences of the input pattern in the given file
    private static void grep(File f) throws IOException { // Open the file and then get a channel from the stream
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(f);
    FileChannel fc = fis.getChannel(); // Get the file's size and then map it into memory
    int sz = (int)fc.size();
    MappedByteBuffer bb = fc.map(FileChannel.MapMode.READ_ONLY, 0, sz); // Decode the file into a char buffer
    CharBuffer cb = decoder.decode(bb); // Perform the search
    grep(f, cb); // Close the channel and the stream
    fc.close();

    boolean deleted = f.delete();
    if (!(deleted)) {
    System.err.println("Could not delete file " + f.getName());

    if (args.length < 2) {
    System.err.println("Usage: java Grep pattern file...");
    return;
    compile(args[0]);
    for (int i = 1; i < args.length; i++) {
    File f = new File(args);
    try {
    grep(f);
    } catch (IOException x) {
    System.err.println(f + ": " + x);

    Here is the minimal code that demonstrates this. It opens the file specified on the command line, maps it to memory, prints it out, and then tries to delete the file.
    There is no question about calling close on a File object. The close method is invoked on a stream or a channel. In the case of a channel, it should automatically close the stream. However, in this code I am closing the stream and the channel.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.nio.*;
    import java.nio.channels.*;
    import java.nio.charset.*;
    public class testFileDelete {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
              FileInputStream fis = null;
              if (args.length < 1) {
                   System.err.println("Usage: java testFileDelete <filename>");
                   System.exit(1);
              File f = new File(args[0]);
    try {
                   // Open the file
                   fis = new FileInputStream(f);
              } catch (FileNotFoundException ex) {
                   System.err.println("Error! " + ex.getMessage());
                   System.exit(2);
              try {
                   // Get a channel from the stream
                   FileChannel fc = fis.getChannel();
                   // Map the file into memory
                   MappedByteBuffer bb = fc.map(FileChannel.MapMode.READ_ONLY, 0, (int)fc.size());
                   // Do something interesting here. For this example, just print the
                   // contents of the file.
                   // Decode the file into a char buffer, so we can print the contents.
                   Charset cs = Charset.forName("8859_1");
                   CharsetDecoder cd = cs.newDecoder();
                   CharBuffer cb = cd.decode(bb);
                   // Now print it out to standard output
              System.out.print(cb);
                   // Close the channel and the stream
                   fc.close();
                   // Close the input stream even though closing the
                   // channel should do this
                   fis.close();
              } catch (IOException ex) {

  • Cannot delete file on windows

    WE have an application. This application processes a list of files in a directory. Once it has processed, it is deleted. We are using the File.delete() API to delete the file. This application works fine on Unix, but when run on Windows, the delete method returns false status. It cannot delete the file and neither does it throw the exception. Is there any way to find out why this delete is failing. We have no clue.

    Maybe the file you get by the new operation
    tion doesn't exist.
    Pls check the return value of the
    the File.exists();.I can't believe that
    your code failed to delete the file if the return
    value is true.sudhirkd never said delete() returned true when it shouldn't have. Regarding exists(), it returns the value that matches the file's actual existence in the file system. Please run the following code on a Windows system to check for yourself:
            java.io.File file = new File ("temp.file");
            java.io.FileWriter out = new FileWriter (file);
            System.out.println ("file.delete() returns: " + file.delete ());
            System.out.println ("file exists: " + file.exists ());
            out.close (); // THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT
            System.out.println ("out closed");
            System.out.println ("file.delete() returns: " + file.delete ());
            System.out.println ("file exists: " + file.exists ());it will return something like this:
    file.delete() returns: false
    file exists: true
    out closed
    file.delete() returns: true
    file exists: false
    Once again, note that it is the explicit close() of the file writer that matters here, not running System.gc(). Relying on garbage collector is a sign of very immature implementation and unprofessional programming style. Java programmers need to be as careful about releasing resources as C/C++ programmers -- just because the heap memory is handled for you automatically does not mean you could ignore file handles, temp files, socket handles, etc.
    The example applies to Windows. Explicitly closing file handles is equally important on UNIX as well. For example, failure to do so and relying on GC may cause a JVM process to run out of file handles very quickly [default max is ~20 on Solaris unless you explicitly increase the soft porcess limits].

  • How to create/delete files from filesystem using PL/SQL ? UTL_FILE?

    Greetings,
    I will start by explaining what i intend to do.
    I have an application made in APEX. This application will have among other purposes the managment of pdf files which will reside in the filesystem.
    I have questioned the person in charge to keep the pdf files in the database and not in the filesystem but without success.
    So the pdf files reside in the filesystem and there is a record in a database table about them. A table keeps all info about the pdf, their location , size and name, creation date etc.
    The APEX application will have a mecanism to allow the deletion of the pdf files if an administrator decides.
    So it should be possible for an administrator to schedule the deletion of all pdf files whoe creation date is older than 2008 for example
    So, how can i achieve that?
    After some research i foudn about the UTL_FILE package which seems to have it takes to perform the task in issue.
    My idea was to have a script in the operating system which runs nightly and reads a file containing all file names of the pdf to be erased.
    The file which contains the names of the pdfs to be erased will be generated by the database a few minutes before.
    If there are no pds files to be erased than the file containing the names will simply be empty
    Are there any other viable solutions out there?
    And as for opening/creating the file withn the pdf names, i use:
    UTL_FILE.FOPEN (
    location IN VARCHAR2,
    filename IN VARCHAR2,
    open_mode IN VARCHAR2,
    max_linesize IN BINARY_INTEGER)
    RETURN file_type;
    And as for writing lines (a pdf name per line ), i use;
    UTL_FILE.PUT_LINE (
    file IN FILE_TYPE,
    buffer IN VARCHAR2,
    autoflush IN BOOLEAN DEFAULT FALSE);
    is there a better solution?
    thanks all.

    I have read that link above, some questions still though.
    I will provide some more information.
    -First the database is in a windows server.
    The windows server has a virtual drive mounted as z:\ <-- this points to a directory in virtual machine, i can manually access/create/delete files manually,i tested.
    -Second utl_file_dir is defined as * , in t that enough to cover mounted drives? ( i can't change the init.ora and reboot the db right now :( gotta wait.. )
    Do i explicitly have to define utfl_file_dir = z: ?
    -Third haven't had the chance to test it on linux or any other operating system, assuming a virtual unit is mounted successfully and that the issues above are solved i should be able to operate on any mounted drive whatever the os, right?
    Best regards

  • Deleting file from AL11 Tcode

    Guy's
    pls let me know ,how we can delete files which we have
    in ALL11 tcode.
    thanks
    sanju

    HI,
    Jus chk out this:
    DELETE - Delete a file
    Basic form
    DELETE DATASET dsn.
    Effect
    Deletes the file specified in the field dsn.
    The return code is set as follows:
    SY-SUBRC = 0:
    File deleted.
    SY-SUBRC = 4:
    File does not exist or could not be deleted.
    Possible reasons:
    1) The file does not exist.
    2) The file is a directory.
    3) The R/3 System has no search authorization
    for a component of the file name.
    4) The R/3 System has no search authorization
    for the directory which contains the file.
    5) A component of the search path is not a
    directory.
    6) The file is a symbolic link which cannot be
    resolved (endless loop ?).
    7) The file is a program which is currently
    running.
    You can refer this piece of code:
    LOOP AT gt_files WHERE type <> 'directory file'
    AND len EQ 0.
    CONCATENATE p_path gt_files-name INTO test.
    CONDENSE test NO-GAPS.
    OPEN DATASET test.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
    DELETE DATASET test.
    IF sy-subrc EQ 0.
    MESSAGE i000(0) WITH 'file deleted'.
    ENDIF.
    ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP.

  • Failed to delete file after processing FTP

    Failed to delete file after processing. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.ai i.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 550 Unexpected reply code *.txt: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. '. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
    I got this error many times for the same interface. Not sure what is the reason for this.
    Searched on internet go comments that this is because of FTP version!
    Please help

    It is the "Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check" in the Sender Adapter that ensures this. It works like this: PI starts processing, finds a file, then waits the number of miliseconds specified and checks the file again to see if it has changed over the waiting period. If so, then it waits again to make sure the file is written completely. Only if no changes took place over the waiting period, it starts processing the file.
    And the fact that your file was successfully processed at retry only confirms that it might have been still written to by the sender system. You can try comparing file's creation timestamp (in OS level) with its processing start time in PI - this could prove me right.

  • I can't move files or folders or delete files without authentication. Also, it doesn't appear that I can change permissions?

    I can't seem to move or delete files or folders on my MacBook Air mountain lion system. It doesn't appear that changing permissions works either? Any ideas?

    Back up all data now.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
    Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
    That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Problem with deleting files !!

    I want to delete file, but for some extensions it is not possible, how can I delete all files?
    I use
    myFile.delete();

    How about the return value from your delete call, is it "true"? What happens when you try to delete the file via your OS? Why do you seem to think that this behavior is specific to certain file extensions? Which extensions are you having trouble with?
    Sorry for all the questions. Just as a guess, I think the most common reason for a delete call not to work on a Windows box is because the file is in use by some other program - an editor, or maybe a web server. Trying to delete the file via the OS might give you a better idea of why it's not deleting.
    good luck

  • I need help with Tiger 10.4.11 saving / deleting files on a Win 2003 Server

    Some of my Mac users are experiencing extremely slow file saves to my Windows Server 2003 server. It is not specific to file types. Illustrator, Quark all take forever and the file size is not the issue either. They are also having to force quit Finder after attempting to delete files from the Server.
    I have found that if they boot into Safe Boot they can delete the files without a problem. As soon as I do a normal login the problem returns.
    The problem seems to be specific to the machine. If user A logs on to her Mac she has problems deleting files from the server. If she logs into a Mac that isn't having problems (using her login) she doesn't have problems. If User B who has no problems on her Mac logs into User A's Mac then User B will have the same problems.
    In order to rebind the Mac to the Active Directory I had to remove the Mac from AD. So I don't think it's the Computer's SID. I even tried unbinding the Mac, changing it's name and then Binding it to AD. Same problems.
    I thought it was the Mac and just wasted a day wiping the Mac and reinstalling everything on it, but when I went to delete a file from the Server, finder locked up and I had to force quit finder.
    I even changed the IP Address of one of the Macs having problems, but that didn't work either.
    I've done a Permission repair as well with no change.
    Anyone help?

    OK, there was a System Events in the System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items, but after removing it and restarting I still had to force quit finder after attempting to delete some files off of the server.
    I do not have (or can't find) the /private/var/run/startupitems.
    The Library/StartupItems has 2 entries: AdobeVersionQueCS2 and IntegoCommon, both of which I removed the other day and tried to delete files after rebooting with the usual (not good) result.
    In the System/Library/StartupItems there are 16 items. I will list them as I am not sure what shouldn't be there. I believe that they should all be from Apple though:
    Apache
    AppleShare
    AuthServer
    CrashReporter
    Disks
    FibreChannel
    IFCStart
    IPServices
    Metadata
    NetworkTime
    NFS
    NIS
    PrintingServices
    RemoteDesktopAgent
    SNMP
    Thanks for your help so far.

  • Problem In Deleting file

    When I call fileone.exists()
    It is returning true.
    But I am unable to delete file even after calling fileone.delete();
    There are some tabs in Swings. From deletion tab I am trying to delete. But I am unable to delete.
    I tried to delete the same file from a simple Java file I am able to delete it.
    Is there any lock preventing me from deleting the file ?
    Any help is appreciated.............

    As you can see in many threads, people talks about a bug in some JVM implementations preventing files to be deleted even if you have closed any stream related to it. I tried many times to delete files to no success until I read some posts advising to use the System.gc() method to destroy any object previously closed (but presumably still existing).
    I tried
    System.gc();
    for(File iterator: arrayOfFiles)
    iterator.delete();
    but the result I obtained wasn't totally satisfactory, because the first files from the array of files weren't delete while the last ones were. So I thought that maybe the problem is the garbage collector had no time to "act" before the first files were deleted. My (not quite elegant, but effective) solution was to introduce a delay of 500ms between the garbage collector request and the first delete statement. I know you have no warranty about the garbage collector acting when you ask it to, but... Anyway, this is my code:
    System.gc();
    Thread.sleep(500); // delay to allow the garbage collector to do its work before any deletion is attempted
    for(File iterator: arrayOfFiles)
    iterator.delete();
    As I could see, it works 100% the times I tested it.
    I don't know if this "solution" was mentioned before or not but, in either case, I hope this helps someone.
