Deleted folder manually, now cant un-/ install anymore using pacman

hi there,
i accidently manually deleted a folder related to nexuiz some while ago and now can't uninstall nor install it using pacman anymore :x
the returned error is:

btw; the nexuiz-data-2.5.2-1 folder is completely empty

My girlfriend had the same problem, with clutter. However, this solution did not work for us, but I removed clutter and reinstalled it with "--force" ('pacman -Sf gnome-games' was the exact command, actually) because it was complaining about existing files in the system which basically were not managed by the package manager anymore. The problem was apparently caused by some disk errors, or something - her computer lost disk data with several other previous occasions.
The previous installation most likely left some garbage on the disk, but at least pacman works .

Created 3 partitions on new Mac Mini, deleted one, and now Bootcamp wont boot anymore! Need help please!

Here's my dilemma. I have a new Mac Mini - a week old. I installed Windows 7 on it using Mac's Bootcamp assistant. I then set up and configured my Windows 7 world and everything worked fine. No issues logging in between Lion or Win7 via the restart/option key procedure. Well, yesterday I split my Mac HD partition one more time to create a third partition (was created as an "extra", e.g. possible future partition for another operating system). After creating it, I then decided that I didn't really need it. So I deleted it in Disk Utility and attempted to drag the Mac HD partition line downward so as to "fill in the gap" and reclaim the lost hardrive space. It seemed as if I could reclaim about 1 gig or so, but I figured...oh well.
Well, the Mac HD partition seems to work just fine, but now I've noticed that I can't get into the Bootcamp partition anymore. It wont boot. If I try to verify the partition [doesn't even give me "repair" as an option), then it fails and gives me the following error message: "verify volume failed. invalid request." When I go to the Startup Disk option in my System Preferences section, it displays the bootcamp partition as a folder and not as a drive anymore.
I'm assuming that I messed up some permissions or lost some vital links during my attempted resizing/reclaiming of harddrive space. How do I fix this without having to reload either all of my Mac info or all or my Win7 info? I'd hate to consider the last two days of my life loading this crap up a complete loss.

Hi surroundsound,
you can't put more partitions on internal HD once you install winOS with Boot Camp.
The sure fix is to delete the windows partition (with Boot Camp Assistant, not Disk Utility), then getting rid of the extra partition (with Disk Utility).
then you can re-install your win& (recreate the win. partition with Boot Camp) - don't add any partitions after.

I deleted something and now cant open itunes

I dunno what I did, My computer has been experiencing what I believe are hacker symptums, I may have deleted something required to open itunes, cause that wont open. The files on the desktop used to have text under them, now its squeezed too small to see and stretched. Files dont open and say"Content" instead of having any of the original files in them, and I believe that my computer says that I am a part of a network when I never advised this. The network folder is empty... But mostly I am confused, and irritated. Love the Apple products, happy with it... Just confused.
I ran "Repair Permissions" the only thing that came up was "unable to repair permissions in SIUD file." Please help IFeelDuM DuM DuM.

Paulietang do you know what files were deleted? Which Adobe software or service gives you the error? Have you tried removing and reinstalling the application?

Laptop died. Had backup of ITunes Media Folder but now cant restore music to Ipod after ios5 upgrade!

Hi guys. My laptop died a week ago and I managed to get the Itunes Media Folder copied off hard drive before it completely died. Since then, loaded Itunes on my main PC for first time (ios5), authorised it and then pointed iTunes at the Itunes Media Folder. Since trying to sync my Ipod Touch (which effectively had to be overwritten) I've noticed that most of my music on the iPod Touch is Greyed out. Majority of the music was from Amazon and purchased CD's imported to Itunes. All plays OK on iTunes but Ipod wont play 'em.
Any ideas guys? Tried syncing about 8 times now. Real pain in the bum!

I am getting a bit lost on what was done and exactly why you did it that way. It looks to me like you use iTunes with standard preferences settings and you didn't so much move your media folder to the external drive as your whole iTunes library (everything in the top level folder including all the media files). This should have been done simply by copying the iTunes folder from the old drive to the new one, renaming the AllMyiTunesMusic folder if you so desire, then starting iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and selecting that folder as the iTunes library to now start using. Apart from the copy time when you could go away and drink a pot of coffee the actual labor time would be about 2 minutes. I think you must have done something different which has kind of messed up your library and resulted in duplication of files. Some of those folders such as Movies and the neighboring Music folder should be in the media folder, but don't move things about in Finder or iTunes may lose track of them and things will get worse. If you can go back and do things properly then I recommend you do so, otherwise we can see what we can work with here.

i have tried my mobilme password and changed that and re-entered it to no avail

So the question remains: How to install from a local copy?
There is no easy way.
If your Mac came with Lion preinstalled, your options are:
1. Make a bootable clone immediately (before adding any apps or other files). Keep that for emergency purposes.
2. Make a second bootable clone whenever there are major changes (and with all your apps and files installed).
3. Purchase the USB stick from Apple for $69.
4. You cannot purchase or download Lion from MAS (except with/through your internet recovery option) because you did not purchase Lion there in the first place (unless you were to completely erase your hard drive and then purchase/download Lion from MAS and then copy/save the installer to a safe place).

Especially take note that these items need to be uninstalled in a specific order:
1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.

Cant silent install DPM using ini file.

Hello I am attempting to install DPM on a standalone server. I have a local sql server 2012 SP1 installed with all the prerequisites installed for both DPM and SQL. Significantly,
using the setup.exe I can install the DPM from the GUI no problem.
I am however having issues installing DPM via the command line using a silent install.
ini file as follows:

With the silent install procedure however I hit an issue. I am convinced this is due to my INI file as I assume a requisite line must be missing as the install fails stating
that prerequisites are not met although. -However all the pre-reqs are met as reinforced by the sucesfull GUI install.
I have used the same Administrator account to run the install via the GUI (successfully) and Command line (unsuccessfully).
Said Administrator account has local admin rights and sql sysadmin rights.
One line I suspect I may need to add is #SqlAccountPassword. -I have attempted setting this with the password of the Administrator account. My understanding is
the 'yukon' lines are not applicable as the sql server is local.
Using the ini file does the install assume the sql install is remote? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
One error I found in error log using the command line 'DPM requires TCP/IP protocol' to be
enabled on the selected SQL server instance'. I've checked this however and again this is not applicable.

Reinstalling all installed packages using pacman

I feel my installation is corrupted .volcontrol muted on every boot,nautilus crashing,etc and more.
So,I though of reinstalling whole Gnome-2.22
I got below script somewhere in this forum or wiki maybe:but the script is erring out :?

Run the command pacman -Qq and pacman -Qmq separately and try to find out why it breaks.
pacman -Q displays all packages, pacman -Qm displays the packages that are not in any repos, that is the packages you installed manually == foreign packages. You can't reinstall these foreign packages with pacman -S by definition.
So you have to filter them out of pacman -Q output.
pacman -S $(pacman -Qq) fails here, because I have 3 foreign packages, but pacman -S $(pacman -Qq | grep -v "$(pacman -Qmq)") works.

How do you install Tiger using target disk mode?

Hi guys,
I have an old Powerbook G4 that seems to have a dead DVD drive, so i am now trying to install Tiger using target disk mode from my Macbook Pro.
I successfully mounted the G4 using target disk mode and the Tiger install DVD but when I double click the install icon, I get an error message saying: "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine"
Okay, fine but i want to install the OS on the G4. How do I go about selecting the G4 for installation?

Hi Nichola,
Have you tried a search on the support site with the error messages you are receiving? (Maybe your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run Tiger.)
To re-initialize your disk, go into disk utilities, select 'Erase' and follow the instructions. This will erase and format your disk. Hopefully this helps, but I'm not sure if it will solve your kernel panic problem - maybe that's a different issue all together??
Hopefully, you've already backed up your important data, but you should try to use target disk mode to do that if you are still unable to boot up the G4 using Tiger. Good luck - hope this is helpful.

Mysql server (installed using pacman)

hi, i installed mysql using pacman, i configured its root password too.
i am using archlinux in vmware, there is X installed, i m using console, and my host is vista.
when i try to connect to the mysql server using SQLyog in windows, it gives me error
Lost connection to mysql server during query
i have used mysql server on windows/ubuntu/etc , there is no problem when i set the server up in those Os's.
i have already commented the option skip-networking, so the mysql server is able to recieve tcp connections.
do i have to chage something in /etc/my.cnf
P.S: i have already set the following values in my.cnf
wait_timeout = 7200
connect_timeout = 60
max_connection = 100
max_user_connections = 90
any help would be apprecieated.

i also added the bind-address option, but mysql still wont work, i have just tried to use the mysql command from bash with with -h optio, i get this error

I backup to an external hdd with Time Machine, when it ran out of space it did not delete old backups, now my internal hdd says its full when before it had heaps of space. I have searched for extra files but cant find any. Can anyone help, please.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home/() Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

2, Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
3. Did you already try "uninstalling and re-installing"? Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)

Re-installing the application may fix this problem." Right after i click ok i then get this error: "Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)." I tried to uninstall Itunes and then reinstall the 11.03 version but that didnt work either. I want to know if i copy all of the music in my itunes folder to an external without consolidating can i still transfer all my itunes music from my current windows xp pc to a brand new one and have my current itunes library in my new pc? Basically i just want to know 3 things: What exactly does consolidating the itunes library do? Can i copy, paste, and transfer my itunes library to an external and from there to a new pc? Will i be able to transfer my itunes library without consolidating the files?

I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed. It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).
