Deleted Font - I goofed up

Anyone with an idea please. I cleaned out my G4 10.3.9 font caches trying to rid myself of a bad font. I went too far. Suitcase X1 now will not start. I had to piggyback two hard drives to copy back the fonts needed for the Finder to work last night. Anyone know what fonts Suitcase may need that are base? Things are sort of working but Safari type is messed up but Firefox is not. Suitcase fails on startup.
If no answer how about reinstall of 10.3? According to the notes, I need the 10.2 disks (who knew) and I threw them out.I threw out all disks before my 10.3 install and they cannot be used (when I restart on safe boot I get a kernal panic). I am preparing to erase and install but looking for the simple but not obvious solution. I definately think I have disturbed the original base set of fonts but other than the 4 cities and Lucida Grande I cannot figure what Suitcase is expecting. Just FYI reinstalling Suitcase has no difference.

All the above suggestions about reinstalling are my last line of defense. I have a functioning system after restoring the Fonts from home mac into my work system. I got Suitcase to start after trashing the Suitcase prefs.
Problem is now with Safari. It "sees" a helvetica that is corrupt and only my home page shows as a mess. Here is a screen capture:
http://www.prepressforums.com/modules/MyUploads/userfolders/ChilBear
Neither Fontbook or Suitcase show a loaded Helvetica. It is definately a bad font but I cannot find where it is being picked up by Safari. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I have Sys 9 disk and a Hardware disk but I feel that I am close to normal and hold out hope of finding this font that I feel is corrupt. As a backup I will erase and install but I have to back up the machine to the server.

  • How to delete fonts & re-add them InDesign cc

Im trying to fumble though some issues my indesign trial I just loaded keeps saying "indesign is not working, windows is searching for a solution" then the only option is to close it.
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling it even updating to windows 8.1 (on my sony Tap 21). It didnt fix it.
I have found some instructions here but I dont understand how to actually find and delete fonts....I found some somewhere in a folder called PFM, (Cut and copied to my desktop) and now I forgot where to put them back! I think I was tired from trying all day to fix this. And no technical support available on weekend....
Hope someone might have a suggestion....(in laymen with some capacity to troubleshoot terms)
I am trying to follow these instruction Indesign CC crashes after startup - Windows 8
    and these https://forums.adobe.com/message/5431757#5431757#5431757
But I dont know if it means the Windows fonts, or the adobe fonts, or where to find either....(and if this is the actual problem?)
    ---doing my best!
    1. Quit InDesign
    2. Remove all fonts from the fonts folder and add a small batch of fonts back in
    3. Launch InDesign
    4. If it doesn't crash, quit InDesign and add some more fonts.
If it crashes, you know one of that batch is the problem, narrow down further.
ex. Split the fonts into halves, add half of the fonts back in > if crashes > add half of the batch that causes the crash > half of that to narrow down the list
Look out for fonts with special characters in the name. Some examples of problem fonts reported by the community are:
    Ithornët
    Typo3-Medium.ttf
    Typo3Normal.ttf
    batang.ttf
    Savoye LET
    IndyPimp
    ImpactLabel

The issue with the fonts has been fixed, as far as I know, so that 's not the problem if you are patched to version 9.2 of ID CC. You should be able to reinstall the ones you removed by right-clicking on them and choose Install.
As to what's causing the crash, I really have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a driver issue. There is a dedicated forum monitored by adobe staff at https://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq that may be able to offer more help. I'm going to suggest you re-post there rather than having me move this thread on the off-chance someone else here might have some thoughts as well.

  • HT201749 i seem to have deleted font book. how can i download this app back on?

i seem to have deleted font book by mistake. how can i download this app back on? i can't find it on the mac website...

You can custom install the Font Book directly from disc #1 that came with your computer when it was purchased.  Follow the onscreen custom install instructions.
If you’d like to reinstall applications that aren’t offered in the Custom Install screen—applications in the Utilities folder or in the Bundled Software folder for example—you can use Pacifist - http://www.charlessoft.com/

  • How to delete fonts ?

I have disabled Chinese, Korean and Japanese fonts in FontBook.
However I still have long lists of Asian / Far Eastern fonts appearing in my application font lists.
Is there a way of deleting or disabling these without causing problems?
    thanks
    Pete

The problem with deleting com.apple.Recents. collection is that it is not regenerated (as far as I can tell). Keynote has exactly the same problem. The file com.apple.Recents.collection can be opened with Property List Editor (part of the developer package), but its a mess. My Recents collection has over 1000 entries! So if I take the file out of the folder, all the recents are gone, but then that feature does not seem to work. Apple goofed on this one.

  • OK to delete fonts the pre-installed fonts?

I've recently got myself a new 24" iMac. I use it for graphic design.
One thing I'm not sure about is which fonts are ok to delete. I seem to have hundreds of fonts that were pre-installed which I will never ever use.
Is it ok to delete any of these fonts or does the Mac need them for running certain applications?
I just ideally would like to have only the fonts I have purchased to show up in my font menu in InDesign and Illustrator. Having hundreds of useless fonts is a tad annoying
Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

OS X does not install hundreds of fonts. The fonts located in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder should be untouched. Fonts you have installed should be located in the /Home/Library/Fonts/ folder, and any of them can be deleted. Some applications may install fonts in the /Library/Fonts/ folder. These should be left alone unless you know they are not required by any of your installed applications.
Note that managing fonts is exactly what Font Book is intended for. You might consider learning how to use it. Open the application and select Font Book Help from the Help menu to obtain information on its usage.

  • How do I delete font caches in Leopard?

The old methods don't seem to work, and the old Tiger utilities need to be updated. I've got an Arial display corruption problem. Honestly, I'd just delete fugly old Helvetica rip-off Arial from my system completely, but iWeb complains when it's not there (and FontBook won't auto-activate in iWeb, it seems).

Yes, Leopard does cache fonts just as Tiger did. The location is very different than previous versions of OS X though, and many utilities (including the current version 0.5.3 of my Font Finagler application) need to be updated in order to find them in the new location.
Mars, I'd go into Font Book and in the preferences, check the box to prompt you before Font Book (the ATSServer, actually) auto-activates a font, otherwise it can silently auto-activate fonts behind your back.
    Hope this helps....

  • Removing/deleting fonts

Is it possible to delete/remove fonts entirely from the computer? Dumped them off the System and Library folders but they are still showing up in Suitcase and all Adobe applications. ??? Looking for assistance.

If you have an app regularly crash, it's probably because there is something in the system that has changed that it doesn't like.
    Your options here:
    1) Run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    If that doesn't solve it
    2) Go Back to 10.4.5 or
    3) Upgrade to Photoshop CS2

  • Osx update deleted fonts

I have JUST this minute rebooted my machine from the latest OSX update.
All my fonts have been deleted. I now only have the default system fonts.
I am a designer and had HUNDREDS of custom fonts installed on my machine. This is worse than a nightmare!
    Can some elaborate/help/explain??
the system update was the one that came out a couple days ago, about 275mb and was to prepare the system of OS Lion.

Installed the way all other fonts were installed, via fontbook.
I have discovered something even more annoying; the fonts are all still there.
Still in my fonts folder, still in fontbook, I can access them in apple mail, but not in microsoft word, adobe photoshop or adobe illustrator.
so the update hasn't deleted the fonts, it's somehow hidden them from my most used apps!
    aargh!

Hi daniele, And Welcome to the New Discussions!
Here is some information about the new Rating System.
    What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
In some cases, an answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a Helpful post. In other cases, a community member may post a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue. The originator can then mark this reply as a Solved post.
The original topic poster has the choice to mark replies as either Helpful or Solved, or not mark a reply at all. In addition, the originator can end the discussion by marking the topic as Answered, which provides a visual cue—a green star—to the community members. This lets everyone know that the topic contains valid helpful information.
Note: Only two replies may be classified as Helpful and only one reply may be classified as Solved in any question topic. Non-question topics do not offer these classifications.

  • I may have deleted font book on my mac book pro, where can I download?

Where can I download font book?

    Hi Niel,
Thanks for your reply, I downloaded Pacifist but it is saying that there is no application to open it? also I dont have the Mac OS 10.5 DVD anymore, any other way around this?
    I appreciate it

  • Downloaded some fonts (otf/ttf), but they won't delete once in the TB?

I got my 15" macbook pro with 8GB of RAM just two days ago, and am loving it!
I'm a photoshop-type person, so I naturally decided to download some fonts. They were either in the .oft (opentype) or .ttf (truetype) format, both of which are acceptable. They went into the downloads stack; each one, I clicked on and then Fonts Book opened to install it. I installed the fonts and then once they were installed, I deleted the files from the Downloads stack. When they were in my trash bin, I went to delete them but it said they were already in use...?
Should I just move the files from the Downloads stack to a new folder specifically for downloaded fonts, somewhere else on the macbook's drive? From what I've tried, it's not possible to delete them.

As for free downloads to play with: unfortunately, the FontDiner ones are all commercial and thus not free...
They do have some free fonts. At the bottom of the first page (after the lead in page), click the "Free Silverware" link at the bottom. The fonts that come up on that page are all free.
I downloaded four of those fonts at random. All work as expected. That doesn't prove though that the Holiday Ranch font doesn't have something wrong with it.
Kurt, as I noted above, I already did empty all font cache files and restart. Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem.
    Oops! Sorry, missed that.
So I think the problem is not that there's anything wrong with my OS, but rather that the person who made the font simply goofed when giving it a name!
It seems to point that way, but you're seeing the issue across fonts from different vendors. I would believe it's either the OS, or Font Book itself.
Your tagline shows you're running 10.6.4. Download and reinstall the 10.6.4 Combo updater. It's surprising how many problems go away when applying the combos.

  • Font Book locks up/crashes after deleting 3 fonts?! Weird! But consistant!

I have a lot of fonts so I understand that sometimes Font Book and programs that use fonts might run a tad bit slow at times. However, lately, going through my fonts and deleting what I don't need has given birth to the weirdest thing ever. While deleting fonts, after deleting three fonts, Font Book hangs and does not respond. I simply have been closing it and starting over. Consistantly, after deleting a third font, no matter what it is, I get the spinning wheel and it doesn't stop. I have even tried restarting and repairing disk permissions. Always hangs on the third deletion. Weirdest thing ever!! Is my Macbook Pro on drugs?!

If you are familiar with necessary fonts, you might like to read Dr Smokes

  • Font list just keeps getting longer!@!

    hello!
i use suitcase fusion with my illustrator CS2.
I have noticed that in some files the font list is very long, and once I open a new font or activate it it is listed in the font list and openned every time I open the file.
is there a way to delete fonts from the list???
I delete swatches and patterns etc. when I save a file to make it a little smaller and open faster, now I am onto the fonts.
    kt

If the fonts are used in the document, you can replace them by selecting: Type > Find Font.
If the listed fonts are not in the Find Font dialog and they are not active in either Font Book or Suitecase Fusion, then it is possible that the font list files have become damaged. You may be able to reset the list by reseting the font list files:
    1. Quit all open applications.
    2. From the Finders menu go to File > Find.
    3. Select the hard drive name and select File Name from the Search options.
    4. Change the Kind field to Name.
    5. Type the following in the search field: Adobefnt
    6. Move any of the resulting files to the Trash and then empty the trash.
Once these files are deleted, relaunch the product and attempt to reproduce the issue. The font list files will get recreated as needed.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode
Booting in Safe Mode takes a little longer than a normal boot but it deletes font caches and might help.
