"Deleted Immediately" Warning

Hello,
I began seeing the following warning every time I tried to move something to the trash this evening.
"The item "__________" will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to continue?"
What happened?!?!? I just want to put the files in the trash and not permanently delete them. I am getting this warning on anything I try to move to the trash.
Thanks!

It may not be relevant to your particular situation, but the message you described comes up when you the item being moved to the trash is on a network volume.
The school I work at uses Workgroup Manager running on an XServer. The students each have a folder on the server where they can save their work. Some choose to save their documents on the actual computer which they are working on. When they move a file on the computer to the trash, the file stays there until the trash is emptied. When the file being moved to the trash is in their folder on the server (ie a network volume) the message comes up telling them that it will be deleted immediately.

    hi all...
i have a a question about my server.
    point,
i have mac mini with OS X 10.4 server installed, and Power Mac G4 with OS X Server 10.3 installed.
Both of them have a same problem.
I have Mac OS 9.2 as client and some OS X machine as client.
    problem...
when the client computer (OS Classic) when to deleted file(s) on my server (both server), it has no problem, the file(s) will moved to the trash immediately.
but, when my OS X client want to deleted file(s), there always a message appears... the message say that the file will be deleted immediately (deleted permanently-the file(s) doesnt go to the trash can.
Is there any way to solve this problem?
thanks for all advice and answer n regards for all mac users..

    Thanks for the answer david.
My server is in the Local Area Network.
Then how to take my file(s) back, if i was deleted
    it?
You cannot. There is 3rd party recovery software but even that has limited functionality in OSX (whether client or server).
Any suggests for my problem, so it wont happend on my
    local area network?
I just want it work like i did with classic client.
    It doesn't.
Only 'solution' (that I am aware of) is to have good backup schedule and use a 'temporary' user-created 'trash' folder at the top of all shares which people move files into rather than the real trash, and which you empty manually.

  • Delete notification warning in notification

When a customer has a Contact Person, if I create a notification using this sold-to-party, and i don't enter a contact person (we don't use CP for notifications), this warning appears:
"Contact person not entered" (Message no. /DBM/CUSTOMER413)
How can I delete this warning.
    Thnxs,
    Gonzalo.

    Dear,
    the answer i need was:
    Hi Gonzalo,
the warning message would appear when you have assigned to your customer master data a contact person CP in the partner function.
This is the DBM-standard. If you need a different procedure please copy
the DBM-function module /DBM/CU17_CHECK_BEFORE_SAVE into your own name
space and comment the line 95 (MESSAGE w413.)
if there are CPs at the customer but not in the notification ->
    warning
    MESSAGE w413.
Afterwards include in the user exit EXIT_SAPMIWO0_020 instead of the FM
/DBM/CU17_CHECK_BEFORE_SAVE your own function module (TCODE CMOD).
If you have further questions please let us know.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Items dragged to Trash are deleted immediately

I don't know why, but since a couple of days, any file I drag to the Trash (or 'right-click' and choose move to trash), now gets deleted immediately.
It used to sit in the Trash until I decided to empty.
I guess there's a settings somewhere, to get it back to normal, but I can't find it
    Any help?

If you don't have permission to delete your own .Trash folder, that's likely your problem. It should not take admin privileges to do this.
Here's another way to do it that will nuke the folder down to bedrock... let's say your regular user account is "cat" and your admin account is "supercat". Log in to "supercat", go to the Terminal and type in this command:
    sudo rm -rf /Users/cat/.Trash
You'll be prompted for your password... type in the "supercat" account password and press return. This will run the command as root, which means that, as far as the computer is concerned, it's God telling it to delete the folder!
Of course, because of the power of this command, you should be very cautious with it. The "rm" command combined with "sudo" and "-rf" will cheerfully delete anything you point it at - including your entire hard drive - with no undo possible.

  • Downloads are deleted immediately after download. The download history is there in the download window but cannot be opened because the download is not there.

Any download handled by the downloader in firefox will result in it downloading ok, but it is immediately deleted by the downloader, I assume. I have tried everything to get a Realted AC97 driver dowloaded but have failed. I even downloaded it on a different computer using Internet Explorer and then emailed it to myself in yahoo mail. It arrived intact but when Yahoo downloaded it the Firefox downloader takes over and the same thin happens again. The source of the download doesn't have anything to do with the problem.

I haven't found a reason yet for this problem, but MS IE9 does the same thing - sort of. Except that IE sends a message after download that "the file contained a virus and was deleted." Very frustrating. Have done virus scan, malwarebytes scan, disabled antivirus and firewall - same result.
Solution: download and install Chrome (sorry Firefox, better figure this one out). Problem does not occur with Google Chrome.

  • Time Machine Oldest backups deleted without warning

I have about 350GB of data on my startup drive that is backed up by Time Machine onto another internal 1TB drive. My other internal and external drives are excluded.
I have just noticed that Time Machine shows my Oldest Backup to be 16th October 2008. When I go into the Options menu in Time Machine System Preferences it has 'Warn me when old backups are deleted' ticked. My backup drive has around 160GB free.
I have not been warned that Time Machine is deleting old backups. The ONLY warning it has given me is the occasional non-specific Time Machine error where it informs me that Time Machine was unable to complete the backup (not very useful) but when this happens it always carries on apparently successful on the next scheduled backup.
The only thing that I can think of to explain this situation is that on the 16th October I replaced one of my excluded hard drives with another. As soon as I had the opportunity I excluded the new drive from Time Machine - but as I used the Disk Utility restore feature, there was inevitably a short time when a new drive full of data was present and wasn't excluded (around 1TB of content on a 1.5TB drive).
If this drive replacement, and Time Machine suddenly thinking it needed to backup that new content caused it to suddenly delete old backups, then 1) why didn't it warn me, and 2) what is the correct protocol for excluding a drive that has just been restored (ie. cloned). Should I be turning Time Machine off before performing such a function?

because TM is buggy. it's supposed to warn you in a situation like that but it often doesn't.
and 2) what is the correct protocol for excluding a drive that has just been restored (ie. cloned).
You can either turn off TM before restoring or exclude the drive before starting the cloning procedure. when a new drive is attached TM waits for 2 minutes and then tries to back it up. in that 2 minutes period you can add the drive to the exclusion list.
Should I be turning Time Machine off before performing such a function?

  • Reset delete playlist warning

ok, ive searched for topics regarding this with no luck.
ive turned off the warning dialouge that pops up when i first deleted a playlist a while back. how do i reset that warning to pop up again. im having serious problems accidently deleting heaps of my playlists.
    thanks

absolutelly the same thing is happening to me, and it seems like the reset warnings option is missing in iTunes 7...
In order to reset these warnings you have to manually hack into the program, which is not the greatest solution, but the only one I've found so far...

  • Delete Confirmation Warning.  I want back.

When I use to push delete a photo it would give me a warning saying are you sure you want to delete. There was a check box that said "Dont ask again" I checked it. after a few mess ups I want the warning back. How do I get it to warn me again????

    It is not outdated.
iPhoto is still storing this flag as the  "DontAskAboutDeleteConfirmation" key in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Deleting or editing this file will bring the prompt back.
But in the newer McOS X versions (since MacOS X 10.7.) are two things different:
The user library hidden by default, so it is not so easy to access the preferences files in the library
And after changing the preferences a restart is required, because of the changes in the process system. Otherwise deleting preferences files may not have any effect.
Either reveal the hidden user library:
To open the hidden User Library:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folders  "Preferences".
Quit iPhoto. Remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist .  Restart your Mac.
Or use an editor to change the preference.  Download and install Pref Setter from this link:
    http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
Move it to the Applications folder, select it, and ctrl-click it. Select "Open".
Type "iPhoto" into the search field and search for com.apple.iPhoto.plist
In the editor pane enter "delete" into the search field and search the entry "DontAskAboutDeleteConfirmation"
change the flag to "false" or "NO"
    Save the file.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Delete trash warning

Where is the warning to turn off delete trash on an iPhone

The hard drive may be dying anyway, or the directory damaged because it is so full.  You should never let the hard drive get over 85% full.
    A -36 error is a read/write error.
All you did with the power is reset the SMC.  Does nothing to reset everything to factory settings.

  • 7.7 deletes immediately, no Recycle Bin

Has anyone figured out how to get back the old behavior of iTunes when it would move cleared files to the Recycle Bin? Now it truly deletes them! The iTunes Music folder is on a local disk drive, and the Recycle Bin is operational, so this is a problem with 7.7, not Windows. The old +Move to Recycle Bin+ button now says Delete.

    Hi,
Have you check your recycle bin settings?
    1. Right-click the Recycle Bin, and then click Properties.
    2. In the Recycle Bin Properties dialog box, make sure Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted checkbox was unchecked.
    3. Click OK.

  • Trash: this will be deleted immediately.

I have search here and ran the terminal script mkdir ~/.Trash
I get the message permission denied. I have repaired all permission but I still can't use the trash function as everything is deleted then and there.

So you did the steps outlined that said:
    Emptying the Trash
In some circumstances, folders for which you do not have write permission can end up in the Trash; and you will not be able to delete them or the files contained in them. Remember that in Mac OS X there is not a single Trash folder. Instead, each user has a Trash folder in their home directory (named ".Trash"). There is also a Trash folder for the startup volume, and Trash folders for other volumes or disks. When a user throws away a file on a local non-startup volume, the name of the folder on that volume is "/.Trashes/UID", where UID is the user ID number of the user (which may be seen in NetInfo Manager). In either case, all Trash folders are hidden from the user in the Finder. In these situations you can either start up into Mac OS 9 to locate the files and delete them, or you can use the Terminal application. Issues with emptying the Trash are much less likely to occur in Mac OS X 10.2 or later, since the Finder empties the Trash as the root user. However, issues may still occur with files on remote volumes for which your local root user has no special privileges.
Warning: Typographical error or misuse of the "rm -rf" command can result in data loss. Insertion of a space in the wrong place could result in the complete deletion of data on your hard disk, for example. You may wish to copy and paste the commands below into a text editor to verify spacing. Follow these steps to delete Trash for the logged-in user:
    Open the Terminal application.
    Type: sudo rm -rf
Note: Type a space after "-rf". The command does not work without the space. Do not press Return until Step 6.
    Open your Trash.
Choose Select All from the Edit menu.
Drag all of your Trash into the Terminal window. This causes the Terminal window to automatically fill in the name and location of each item in your Trash.
    Press Return.
All of the items in your Trash are deleted. As an alternative method, you may execute these commands. The second and third commands will delete Trash belonging to other users. The commands are:
