Deleted iPhoto, trying to save photos!

I somehow managed to delete my iPhoto (2.something). My library is still intact and has not been tampered with other than to open the folder to see if photos are still there. I have the install packages on my hard drive. My question is whether I should backup the library folder onto CDs then reinstall, or are they separate enough that I can go ahead and reinstall? If I do, will iPhoto automatically use my old library or will it creat a new one? I REALLY don't want to lose all my photos!
Thanks in advance for the help.
Julie

To be safe move the iPhoto Library Folder to the Desktop.
Install iPhoto. Iphoto will create a new library. Quit iPhoto. Move the new empty library to the trash. Drag the original back to the Pictures folder.
Launch iPhoto and choose the original library.

After I upgrated to os x 10.8.2. Using Iphoto It doesnt save photos to iphoto from attached mails

This is a bug, see this thread:
Re: Add to iPhoto not working from Mail app
For a work-around see wales34 post in the link above:
To save a photo in an email to iPhoto make a detour to Preview:
instead of clicking "Save" photo in the email, click "Quick Look"
Expand the photo to full screen
click the icon for "Add to iPhoto".

  • I am trying to save photos from iphoto to an external hard drive

    Help!
I bought a "WD Elements" external hard drive to save photos and make more room on my Macbook Pro. I can't move pics from iphoto to my "WD Elements" hard drive . I've recently gone on a few vacations and have a few thousand pictures to download. I'd like to save them onto my computer and then my external hard drive, but would first like to place old pics from iphoto onto the external hard drive and I am unable to figure out how to do this. I've tried selecting pics and then dragging them into the "Elements" external device, but this is not working (a white circle with a line through it pops up, as if I am unable to do this). When I select pics and click export, a message says that it's unable to export these pics to the hard drive device.
    Please help! ~Thanks!

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • IPhoto won't save photos after using crop feature...

Okay, I don't understand if I am doing something wrong or what, but I am trying to crop and iPhoto doesn't save the pics.
This is what I am doing...I open a picture in iPhoto, click the 'crop' button, then drag the borders where I want it to crop, then I click 'done.' The 'saving changes' box with the blue & white progress bar never pops upadn ,it just shoots me back to the thumbnail screen. When I look at the file, nothing has been cropped, and I even reopen the file, and again, nothing cropped.
If I open a picture and use the 'effects' button and make changes, it saves with no problem. It just doesn't want to save any crops.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sportscrazed33:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You have to hit the crop button after selecting the area to crop. If you're cropping to a predetermined ratio that's in the Constrain menu it will automatically select an area to crop that you can then adjust. You don't need to hit the Crop button before selecting the area. Then hit the Done button. It's not intuitive but that's the way it is.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Can I now delete iPhoto after upgrading to Photos

I have upgraded to photos synced everything across iCloud and everything seems to be fine.
I have a migrated library showing in iPhoto
showing a size of 43gb. I know it is not this size but is it safe to delete the iPhoto library. And also can I delete the iPhoto app its nearly 2gb

    Do not delete iPhoto!
Remember, we now live in the world of downloaded software. Programs can get removed or changed and you have no ability to reinstall later. In fact this has already happened with iPhoto.  You can still buy older versions of iPhoto sold on disk but not the current (download only) versions.

  • Should I delete iPhoto after upgrading to Photos?

    Hi everyone -
Since I only have a 750 GB SSD, I like to save space wherever and whenever possible. I have almost 20 GB of photos in the iPhoto library, now that I've installed Photos can I remove that folder and the iPhoto application?
Thanks in advance for the help!
    Chris

    Yes.

  • Help!  Trying to save photos to be printed outside of lightroom.

New to Lightroom...In a file folder of 1500 pictures, I have edited and flagged 497.  How do I save these prints on a disc to take to a local printer?  I have been trying to move them out of the file folder into a separate folder but it gives me a message about permanent changes.  Not sure this is what I should do.  I would love any feedback.  Thank you.

Select the photos in Library Grid view then choose Export from file menu. When the Export dialog opens you can choose the location, name, size, file format, colour space etc.
    Edit - replaced sceenshot

  • When trying to save photos get error (memory RAM, CS6)

After working on the photo, if you try to keep getting the error
could not save as ***.jpg because there is not enough memory ram. try saving without optimization or as baseline jpeg
    My notebook config:
    core i3 M380. 2.53 GHz
    memory 2gb
    hdd ~ 40gb free disk C.
    graphic integrated
    Adobe Photoshop CS 6 13.0.1.1
    Windows 7 32bit
    PS Preferences:
         Memory used
         Available RAM: 1531 Mb
Let Photoshop Use: 995 Mb (65%)
    Scratch Disks:
         C:\ 42.59 Gb Free Space
         D:\ 41.23 Gb Free Space

You have the bare minimum RAM for the program to launch.  Running it well is a different matter.
You don't have nearly enough available drive space on that C drive to accomodate both the swap files of the OS and a Photoshop scratch disk.  Your D drive is woefully short on space too.
My system is bare bones minimal and I have a dedicated 250 GB hard drive as my primary Photoshop scratch drive.
The error message you are getting means exactly what it says.

  • Iphoto will not save photo in most recent folder

I have having trouble with the new iPhoto 9.3   When I import a photo, it will not go to my most recent folder.   It only goes to the library section.   I have called Apple support twice and have gone through the lengthy steps of dumping iPhoto files from my library, and then rebuilding everything.   It takes the 4th option, rebuild data base to make it work again.   However, that only lasts for one day.   The next time I open iPhote, it is back to the same way.   I spent an hour on the phone last night, I certainly do know how to do it now, but what is the point, when it will just happen again?   Is anyone else having this problem with the new update.   It is driving me crazy.   I am not going to bother fixilng it again if it just lasts one day.   I want a permanent fix.   Help

I mean in my folder that says last 18 months--under the Recent heading.   In the library section the photos are shown in both photos and events.   The dates on my camera are correct.   I have called Apple care and we have repaired this twice.   First I have to find my library (hidden under the GO heading.) Then go to library, dump the cache and everything with iphoto in the title.   Close iPhoto.   Then hold option and command at the same time and click on iPhoto.  It will open with a box with 4 things that can be done to rebuild or restore.   The 4th one is the one that works--do not rebuild the snapshots--that takes forever!!   Anyway, this works --for about 24 hours, then it reverts back.   This all started with the update to 9.3.   Two other problems.   If I send a photo through iPhoto, and I type anything with it, the typing shows up on the photo and is almost impossible to read.   Got that info back from the person I wrote to.   And my photos that I put in the photo stream have disappeared, all but 3.   They still are in the photo stream on my iPad and my husband's computer (not with updated iPhoto--I said do not do this.)   So, I could fix this again, but what is the point?   It takes forever and does not last.   I think we need a software correction of some kind for iPhoto 9.3.   Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Trying to save photos

Hello, my friend has a 16GB iPod touch. It is running an old version (2.2.1) iOS. Thier computer runs Windows 7. When plugging the iPod in I can use Explorer to view 2 photos which are in a photo album labeled "Saved Photos". There are also 5 other photo albums on the iPod which I cannot view from Explorer.
What must I do to view all of the albums and copy to the PC?
    Other possibly relevant information:
Windows Explorer sees the iPod drive as having 11.4GB free of 11.4GB
The iPod says capacity is 14.5GB with 11.3GB available.

Disregard what Explorer says about camacity.
My Computer will only see/access photos in the Saved Photos album. Photos in other albums where synced to the iPod from a computer. Yo can either get them from that computer. To copy them from an iPod to a computer you need a third-party program like PhoneView or TouchCopy.

  • New to iMac , how do I save photo's to my computer?

I just got a i-mac , this is my first mac computer so I am lost.
I am trying to save photo's to my computer from a disk and am
not sure how to do this.
On my old computer I could just right click and save the image
but I can not do that on the mac.
    tHANKS

Just drag it into a folder, open your desired folder and drag photos between the two.
Pressing command while doing this will move the files, you'll see the icon change, the symbol will dissapear when command is pressed. Yes this works like the Move in Windows's right click contextual menu.
Alternately, you can also right click on an image, then choose Copy "[image name]", and paste it into your desired folder. Command clicking is like Control clicking on Windows, it will keep all the files you clicked selected. Command+C also works for this, however there is no Cut & Paste like in Windows, just Copy & Paste.
You can also select, drag and hold the photos over a folder or a directory and they will actually open, spring loaded folders I think its called, but this is actually slower as there is a short wait for folders to open. Esc to cancel.

  • Delete iphoto libarary

If I delete IPhoto libarary will my photos, which are located in "pictures" in individual folders be deleted? Does IPhoto just "point" to the photo location?

    Depends.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
