Deleted iPod Selection--all songs on iPod disappeared--help!

I had too many songs in my library to fit on my iPod, so my iPod created a selection of songs. Then I added and deleted many songs to the library.
However, when I plugged in my iPod so it would be updated from the revised iTunes library, nothing would happen. So I deleted the iPod selection, thinking iTunes would automatically create a new one based on the revised library. Wrong. I got the message "Songs on your iPod cannot be updated because all of the playlists no longer exist." Uh oh.
Deleting the iPod selection wiped out my iPod, but all the songs are still in my library. How do I get all the music in my iTunes library back onto my iPod? Can't find any info about this problem in the articles. Thanks for any advice you can provide...I'm freaking out.

See if this helps: Hudgie - iPod cannot sync because one or more playlist is missing

  • Can't see *all* songs in iPod

I just transferred several songs from my iTunes library to my iPod. And when my iPod is connected to iTunes, all of those songs appear at Devices > my iPod > Music. HOWEVER, when using my iPod, not all songs are visible.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello Anthony,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Where are you searching for these songs at? From under the Songs list on your iPod or elsewhere? Have you doubled check to make sure they are not marked as "Part of a compilation" from under the Info tab of its *Get Info* window in iTunes?
You aren't getting any error messages while syncing are you? Have you tried removing all your music from the iPod and starting from scratch to see if that does any good?

  • How To Select All Songs In An Album To Play Them?

How can I easily select all songs in one album to play them?
Now I have to click the checkbox for each individual song. Surely, there is a shortcut for this??? I keep the library sorted by album. And, no, I am not going to do playlists.
And, by the way, why isn't there a detailed manual showing how to use the product?

If you turn on the Browser while in that list view, then the album art continues to display when you select a single album from the browser pane.
The browser has three columns. The right hand column lists the albums without album art. I found no way to change that behavior. Yes, I can search for the album by name, but that's not what I would normally do.
The album art continues to be displayed in the area below the Browser.
Why are you closing the Browser? You can navigate away from the window with the Browser in it and edit data on any of your other tracks. When you come back, the album you selected will still be selected, and it will stop playing at the end.
(I'm also not sure what you mean by "go back to the Library". When you turn on the Browser, you're still in your Library; it's just a different view mode. Are you navigating to a different playlist?)
I close the browser so I can see the list of tracks and albums in the library. With the browser open and one album selected (to play it), it is the only album visible in the library. I found no way to "navigate away from the window with the browser" - the browser is the only view of the library available at that point. I am not using playlists at all (except for syncing with my iPhone and occasionally to burn a CD) so, no, I am not navigating to a different (or any) playlist.
Aha. That's easy enough to fix: create a playlist (called "Editing" or something) containing all of your music. (You could make it a smart playlist, using the rule "Date added is after 1/1/1900"). Then, while leaving the Browser open in your main library window, you can navigate to your Editing playlist to do all your editing. Then your album will remain selected, and keep playing, in the main library.
iTunes's functionality is dependent on playlists. There are solutions to the problems you are having, but trying to solve problems without using any playlists is like asking for help with organizing things on the Desktop without wanting to use folders.
Here's another solution: Leave everything checked, as I said above. Create an empty playlist, and tell Party Shuffle to use that empty playlist as its source. Then, if you highlight tracks, control-click them, and choose "Play next in Party Shuffle," Party Shuffle will add those tracks and play only them, then stop (because it will try to draw the next track from the empty playlist, and not find anything). I just tested this; it works fine.
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about. After messing around for 20 minutes or more, trying the iTunes (pitiful) help, and finding nothing usable about "Party Shuffle" (the so called help describes things I was unable to locate -- no Party Shuffle playlist, no source pop-up menu, etc.), I quit.
    Step-by-step:
    1) In Preferences > General, make sure the "Party Shuffle" checkbox is checked in the "Show:" options.
    2) Close Preferences, then select the Party Shuffle icon in the Playlists column on the left of your iTunes window. It's probably populated with random songs from your library at this point.
    3) Create a new playlist (command-N), but don't add any songs to it. Name it "Empty" or something similar.
    4) In the Party Shuffle playlist, in the lower left-hand corner, there is a drop-down menu labeled "Source". Select your Empty playlist from that menu. (iTunes will probably warn you that the playlist you selected is empty.) Note that the Party Shuffle playlist depopulates, because it is drawing its music from an empty playlist.
    5) Return to your library, highlight an album (or any group of songs), and control-click any of the tracks. Select "Play next in Party Shuffle" from the contextual menu that appears.
Party shuffle will play the tracks you selected. When it gets to the end of the selection, it will try to draw a random track from the Empty playlist, and fail, and stop playing. You can then continue to edit song information in your library, or navigate to the Party Shuffle playlist if you want see what's playing and look at the album art that's being played.
This solution does exactly what you asked for.

Not true. Select "Kind" as a sort category by right clicking the headings
Then click to sort by Kind
If your Import Settings are for Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC or whatever the majority of your files are, convert MP3s to that file type.
I've presently got 17,000+ files in my library, and they're ALL MP3 or M4B(Audiobooks). If they weren't when I got them, I converted them.  Saves a LOT of hassels with just this type of situation. Besides I have two non Apple MP3 players that WON'T work with other file types besides MP3 so, EVERYTHING I have has to be MP3.

  • Itunes wont list all songs on ipod, only some of them

My itunes doesn’t list all the songs on my ipod, only some of them. (Only the ones uploaded after a certain date, when I think I forgot to eject my ipod one day).
The ipod definitely has all the albums I've ever uploaded on it. I know because I've tried looking on my friends’ computer and his DOES show all songs on my ipod.
Sounds like a PC problem, not an ipod problem, right? So I tried re-installing itunes, but that doesn’t fix it.
It’s not a bit deal, but it just means I can’t delete certain albums from my ipod.

How exactly are you trying to view this info.
Select the iPod as the Source. Do not select any of the playlists on the iPod, just select the iPod itself.
Any reason you are manually managing the iPod?

  • All Songs on Ipod Not Displaying

a few days ago when connecting my ipod to my pc i got the error that the database is "corrupt." so i tried to reset it but nothing happens. The problem that i'm having is that the data is all there on the Ipod, when i go to the "About" section on the Ipod the Available is 5.7 Mb out of 3.7 GB. however when i go to the music library on the ipod there are no songs at all.
I've tried resetting, uninstalling and re-installing itunes and the ipod on windows, using the updater and selecting the drive through admin tools to reformat it. but i can't even get the ipod to show up on the PC now. it only shows up as a Generic USB Mass Storage Device.
Another thing is that whenever i do connect it and then disconnect it from the computer the Ipod resets and you have to select the language again. I tried to "restore" it but nothing ever happens (the computer just sits there displaying "Initiallizing" for 20minute but no results.
Anyone got any ideas how i could install the ipod on the pc and then be able to reformat it?

Sorry, but I'm not following your arithmetic here.
You say you have 3262 songs in iTunes, so your iPod should reflect that. However your iPod shows 4300 songs, so that would be a discrepancy of 1038 songs not 1200.
Have you tried restoring the iPod? This will erase the iPods contents and allow you to start afresh and reload the 3262 songs from itunes.

  • How Do I View All Songs on Ipod

I'm new to Itunes. How do I view and manage all the songs on my ipod and not just the ones I have purchased? There are some that were apparently on the ipod when I received it that I would really like to delete.
    Thank You

Sounds easy doesn't it. Just be wary of having your iPod synced to iTunes. If for some reason iTunes loses all your music and judging by the forum posts this is a very common occurence it can delete it all from your iPod as well when you plug it in.
Likewise if you delete something from your iPod, iTunes will also delete it, plus if you are not attentive you could delete the files from your hard drive as well, it only takes clicking the wrong option in the dialogue box.
We are all different in the way we use iTunes and our iPods. Some use an iPod as a play back device only, some use it as play back and back up device. The later is a bit risky in my opinion. Some people use the rating and playcount facilities and syncing these is important. I never use them myself.

  • How to transfer all songs from ipod to my library?

got a new ipod, but some of my songs are only on old ipod, not in my lib. how to transfer all songs from old ipod to lib, so i can put them on new ipod. both ipods are 4GB mini. thanks for help.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Workaround to No "Select All" Functionality in iPod/iPhone Mail App?

Has anyone come up with a workaround to the lack of a "select all" option in the iPod/iPhone Mail app? Right now, if you are presented with a long list of unread messages, your options are to either read each and every one of them individually, or delete them individually. I was wondering if anyone had come up with either a workaround, or solution provider, in this area. Yes, I have submitted the suggestion to Apple to include this functionality in the future. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I posted the suggestion enhancement to Apple via the "Submit Feedback" option this evening, I wouldn't hold my breath but with no apps or workarounds out there, it's really up to Apple to step up and provide this basic albeit necessary functionality. I really can't be the ONLY Mail user that goes through manually deleting a slew of emails messages every other day, it's ridiculous!

  • Syncing playlists/all songs (mutliple ipods)

Ok, kind of confusing here. I have a 30gig video ipod and a 16gig ipod touch that i have synced to the same library. I am at the point now that the 16 gig ipod is almost full after syncing all songs and all playlist. The problem now is that i want to be able to keep adding more and more playlists to my 30 gig ipod.
Now the questions i have are:
Is there any way to sync all song and playlists EXCEPT certain playlists?
Is there any way to set up a smart playlist to include all songs so that i can sync that playlist and the other playlists i want for each ipod? If so, how?
I know i could set up a separate library for each ipod but i really wanna leave that as a last resort.
anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

The previous answer is incorrect. It is possible to sync ALL songs and only certain playlists. The trick is to make a smart playlist. Call it whatever you want. Under the settings of the smart playlist choose "playlist is"... "Music" where Music is the main music list default of iTunes with the blue music note as shown at the top of your library. This is the main list of music according to iTunes. This will send a copy of all the music files over to iPod. Then manually select playlists to sync (instead of automatic). The drawback is if you want to sync most of your playlists it may take a while to select all of the ones you want. Of course don't forget to check the smart playlist you just created.
    Good luck!

  • After apparently syncing, I get an 13010 error message and told sync can't work. All songs on iPod but frozen.

I recently noticed that a ton of songs weren't playing all the way through and I tried to sync them up. That led to "restoring" my iPod a few times. Finally able to sync and get all songs and podcasts and photos onto my iPod, but along with an error message that the sync couldn't be done due to an unknown error 13010. The songs are there but I can't do anything with them such as make playlists or even change how they're listed. This is incredibly frustrating as NOTHING has happened to this iPod to cause this to happen.

AND i already tried to delete the iTunes library genius.itdb file!!

  • Not copying all songs to ipod

I just recently got a new video ipod, and when I tried to upload all the songs from itunes onto it, most of them did not copy. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

It might of loaded the whole iTunes database but not all songs, so all the other times you sync, iTunes thinks iPod already has the songs maybe.
Try running the latest updater on it and restoring it. Restore wipes the iPod clean and then u use iTUnes to load it back up. the latest iPod updater is version 03-23-2006 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
