Deleted Library File... Once is starts playing at all! Help!

I have an Ipod 20gig. Recently I deleted the library file, but first...
When I try to play a song, it queues up on the ipod screen, and then the ipod freezes. It turns itself off in a few minutes and boots back up to the main menu which works fine. I can change any setting. But then when I go to play again it doesnt play and freezes!
If that ever gets fixed, I have another proble, I deleted my library file!
Alright folks - somehow i deleted my Ipod library file. Huge problem. Now if I wanna add or delete anything, i have to start from scratch - that is- i cant add anything or itll be the only thing on there when I update! What do I! It took me 2 years to properly tag everything that i got on there!

  • ITunes deletes Library File on startup (Sony VAIO, Windows 7)

    Help needed. My mother has a 1 yr VAIO with Windows 7 and has a consistent problem with iTunes in that the Library file keeps disappearing and hence iTunes shows no music / TV files available to play.
    Scenario is:
    Latest iTunes version installed.
    Music / TV files are on C drive
    Library build happens correctly first time.
    Shut down iTunes
    Re-launch iTunes
    When the program re-launches it places Library file in the 'Waste bin' and creates new temp files in the location (itunes.tmp). It also sometimes creates a new library file which is empty.
    These temp files seem to be created on every launch and shut down. I deleted over 500 of them! At present the only solution seems to be to rebuild the file every time.
    I never had this on any real issues on other Windows XP machines or my Mac. Have tried re-install. Can't think of any other options.
    thanks.

    There is a problem with media management software Vaio xml library Manager, the Vaio content manager and the Vaio Music Box software

    Work around:
    In Control Panel, turn off Vaio Content Folder Watcher and VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager.

  • Hiding a preview once video starts playing

    I am trying to hide a preview that I inserted with some AS3. The preview works and I use this code to create it.
    var preview:Loader = new Loader ();
    loadPreview (preview, "gotgame.png");
    addChild(movie_flv);
    function loadPreview (loader:Loader, previewFile:String) :void {
    var u:URLRequest = new URLRequest (previewFile);
    loader.load(u);
    movie_flv.addChild(loader);
    Now I am trying to hide the preview once the video starts playing. I tried the code below that I got from a tutorial but its not working and giving me this error "1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: VideoEvent." Does anyone see the flaw in my code?
    movie_flv.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYING_STAT E_ENTERED, onPlay);
    function onPlay(evt:VideoEvent):void {
    preview.visible=false;

    use:
    import flash.video.VideoEvent;

  • "Not permitted" access to DVD menu once DVD starts playing --Mac DVD player

    Hi,
    DVD works fine on standalone DVD player, but when played on an internal Mac DVD player, it won't allow me to stop the disc and go to the menu once it has started playing. It says "Not Permitted." I've tried a couple different macs.
    I made my video in FCP5 with chapters and exported as MPEG2 via compressor to DSP 3.0.2. I need the chapters to work correctly on a Mac DVD player as it is an instructional video which will accompany all the Mac Media Carts that have been purchased for our school district -- it has to play correctly on the included laptops.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    When you press STOP in the DVD Player, the DVD stops, no longer running. That's the reason that when you try to press MENU appears the Not Permited message: no way to go to the menu because the DVD is not playing.
    That's the normal behaviour of the DVD Player. I think that's the way that thinks works in every DVD player . . . "I think".

  • Have deleted library file to trash. Computer now wont booy up

    I have deleted the files in 2 of the library folders to trash. Now the computer will not boot up. I have tried repair in disk utility with no luck and have no backups. Is there a way to recover these files to their correct location?

    No wonder it won't boot - those files control the system background jobs that are required to run essential system services! What were you thinking?!
    A backup onto the same disk is not really a backup, you could easily break the disk when it it resizing the partitions - do not do this!
    A reinstall is intended to resolve issues like this - when you upgrade the OS the same thing is used (all the apps are left alone, the user data is also left on the disk).
    The other option you have is to try to use Terminal in recovery mode to copy back the files from the Trash folder. This is complex & can also mess up the OS if you make typo or don;t know what you are doing. I have tried to work out instructions for Terminal, but it seems too difficult to manage remotely sorry, I really think you have to risk a reinstall.
    If you still want to take a backup first ask, but find an external disk first.

  • Error message - "The iTunes Library file is full could not be saved" - Help

    Hi folks.
    I looked for current / recent chatter on this iss before creating this topic. Didn't see anything that addressed this issued recently. If I missed it, sorry, if not, here you go!
    I got an error message last night while using iTunes. It just popped up during use, not while using. The error message read "The iTunes Library File could not be saved." Now my hard drive is DEFINITELY not full. I have hundreds of gigs of unused space. This appears to be an issue strictly related to my library.xml file. Stupidly, I clicked the don't show me this again and closed the message. My concern now is that I'll rip new content that won't end up in my iTunes library even though it's on my hard drive, thus that content will not be findable by iTunes.
    I don't want to just rebuild the library from scratch as I have fixed tons of errors in how iTunes classifies my music over the years and all that work would be lost.
    Any ideas on how to get past this glitch?
    I noticed this problem also cropped up circa the original iPhone launch. I had that phone and did not experience this prob, and I just upgraded to the 3G four days ago. It makes no sense to me that the phone is causing this, but perhaps the upgrade to the iTunes version 7.7 (necessary to use the iPhone with my Windows computer) is the cause of the prob.
    I did erase a bunch of videos and unsubscribed to several video casts. That was one recommended solution way back when.
    My concern though is that since I chose the don't show me this error message again option, I won't know whether the problem persists or not.
    Oh the humanity...

    I have seen this a few times, usually when other 3rd-party applications are using itunes. Such as, lastfm & the Tivo remote music player.
    And, I've also seen it when I was copying a bunch of digital photos to the exHD in the background while playing music and the song changed. iTunes saves the playcount in the ITL file when the song ends.
    You might check this Microsoft article about "Enable write caching on the disk". I haven't seen that iTunes error since I turned mine back on for the exHD. The Tivo "delayed write failed" errors are back, but that's a different problem...
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;330174
    Anyway, long story short, it gets saved OK later and I make frequent backups of that ITL file.

  • Deleting iMovie files & exported movies causes errors in all of iLife

    I just went through quite an ordeal...
    In an attempt to clean up some space, I deleted a bunch of my iMovie project files and movies after backing them up (files in the default Movies folder). I have deleted iMovie projects before with no issues.
    This time, it caused errors in iDVD, iMovie, and iPhoto...it would say: "Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again." It would say this over and over and over again and often completely hang up my application so that I would have to force quit. This would repeat itself over and over...
    I read about this in other forums and erased .plist files in User > Library, etc...This solved the problem for other people, but it kind of made it worse for me. Long story short, I ended up having to restore from Time Machine my entire system just to get iLife working again... I also searched for Aliases and externally referenced libraries or files, and I do not have any.
    So now I have those files again. I want to delete them again. But I'm afraid! (P.S. This may also be related to deleting the Aperture Trial Library in the Photos folder...I am also posting about that to the Aperture forum.)
    Does anyone know what the deal with this is? How come before I did not have problems but am now? How do I safely delete iMovie files without having this happen again?
    THANK YOU!

    iMovie is a non-destructive editor, meaning that all original clips are maintained in the folder, even after editing. Until you render the movie to DVD, all the original files are still "in the background". Kind of hard for me to explain. Others here could give more technical details. You would have to delete your movie from the folder to regain all the hard drive space.
    If your idea is to archive your movies, a better method is to record them back to tape. Otherwise, get an external drive to store the finished movies and then delete the original files.
    One word of caution about emptying the iMovie trash. This has been known to cause problems with a work in progress and it is generally advised to leave the iMovie trash alone until your project is finished and burned to a DVD.

  • ITunes Library file cannot be saved, error (-54).  Help!

    I've just downloaded iTunes 11 and now I keep getting this error message "iTunes Library file cannot be saved.  An unknown error occurred. (-54)".  Has anyone else encounter this issue?  How can I fix it?

    Hi Mr.Jones,
    I started with the questions marks because I did not understand what you were asking.
    I had the impression that yo wanted to make a backup of the Library.
    The Library is "saved" in it's standard folder when you change something. Restarting iTunes, or even restarting the Macbook normally solves problems.

  • Deleted .DS_Store files, Now my drive is EMPTY! Help!

    In Mac's Terminal application I used a command I found on Adobe's website to delete .DS_Store files because I thought I had some corrupt ones. The command was to delete all of them on the entire machine. Since they are not critical files, I figured what the heck. Well, maybe I typed something wrong. I know Terminal is very touchy (now I know). But all of the files on my external drive are gone. When I double-click the drive icon, the window shows 0 items. Can anyone tell me what went wrong and how to undo the problem. I think all the files are still on the drive, there's just no directory to view them - so it says there's 0 files. Help please!
    Here's the commands I entered in Terminal. Note that the first line is the command that was supposed to erase the .DS_Store files. The second line asked for my password. When I entered it, it may have deleted the files, but then it gave me no new command prompt. So everything you see from the "sudo" on is things I entered trying to get a new prompt. So I think that's where I screwed something up.

    By the way, the Adobe article that showed how to delete the .DS_Store files (in case that helps) is at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/168/tn_16831.html

    I just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
    The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
    Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back...

  • TS4002 Hi, I have over 7000 mail messages and trying desperately to delete the files...having looked at all forums and thought I was following instructions, they're all still there.  Can anyone explain simply, step by step please????

    Can someone give me a step by step guide to deleting mail files/folders from my very full macbook.  I have 7000 mails and it's slowing everything down (at least I think that is contributing). I am not a tech expert so simple steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I doubt that your emails are slowing the machine, they are small, and 7000 is not a lot (think 100,000 for a lot)
    to delete them just select and delete in Mail.

  • Automatically connects to sync and will start playing music all the time even when not using sync

    My iPhone 4S will automatically start playing music as soon as I start my vehicle with sync.you can't hear it but on the screen it shows its playing even when listening to the radio

    Try resetting it if you can: hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release.  If you can't, try to connect it to iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your sync settings and click Restore to restore it.  If that doesn't work you'll have to force it into recovery mode to restore it as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.
    You can check in iTune to see if you have a backup.  They are listed in iTunes>Preferences>Devices.  However, the backup may not bring your contacts back as contacts are only backed up as necessary to preserve the recent call and call favorites lists.

  • Invalid Library File - ITunes won't open - AT ALL!!!

    hi, need some help! ITunes won't open, at all. Have followed Apple's advice to recreate library (by locating library.xml and moving it to the desktop, while trashing the ITunes library.itl file)ITunes still doesn't open. Connecting Ipod to laptop does nothing either! Any advice would be great!
    3G   Windows XP

    Hey try this out:
    Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall OFF, (turn it OFF Permanently until your ready to turn it back on) then click CONFIGURE.
    Under the PROGRAMS tab remove any reference to Apple iTunes or iTunes or iTunes Helper Module or anything related. and reboot.
    After coming back go back to Norton 2005's Personal Firewall, click CONFIGURE. Under the PROGRAMS tab click ADD at the bottom, a SELECT A PROGRAM
    window will pop up. Add the following files one at a time, iTunes.exe, iTunesHelper.exe, QuickTimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe, QTInfo.exe. The last 3 are found
    in your Quicktime folder where that is in your system. Click OK. Turn Norton 2005's Personal Firewall ON, and try starting iTunes again.
    This worked for me. It seems the Quicktime files were never automatically entered into my Norton 2005's Personal Firewall allowable programs listing. Adding them
    manually should help. I also noticed that from my previous version of iTunes the program listed in the Firewall was named Apple iTunes and not iTunes after I upgraded to 6.
    Let me know if this works out.

    Normally it is not a good idea to put your PowerBook to sleep whilst there are external drives still attached. It is best to eject/unmount any external peripherals prior to putting the PB to sleep. What is also not a good idea is to force it to shutdown in the manner you have described.
    The first thing I would try is a PMU reset.
