Deleted Library

My computer had to be fixed, and now that it works my iTunes library is gone... the whole thing. There are absolutely no songs in my library. What do I do? Please help a "damsel in distress." Thank you.:)

The following link will explain how to backup your iTunes library. This is your insurance against a computer crash & losing all your music. I would suggest you should learn how to take care of backing up your system.

If you have an iPod, there are several 3rd party apps such as iPodAgent for Windows, copypod, yamipod, which will allow you to move everything off your iPod back into iTunes. You can "google" for these apps or try versiontracker.com.

How to recover a deleted library in Revel?

    Hi Roman,
Once a user has deleted files those files cannot be recovered by us.
If you have been uploading or using Revel via the Revel Mac desktop you may be able to recover your originals if you have selected the option Keep Originals. They are stored in a file on the desktop.

  • I'm an idiot. accidentally deleted library. any way to recover?

i should know better. i had moved my library to my desktop while i was rebuilding it earlier in the week. because i had a copy in my finder shortcuts, i assumed wrongly that the folder on my desktop was also a copy. and so, of course, when cleaning up my desktop i trashed it, and then emptied trash, and only began to freak when over 2000 files were being deleted.
is it absolutely gone? or is there a way to recover my deleted library. i have most of it backed up on another computer, but most recent additions haven't been backed up yet.
    help? still running 5.

First off, do nothing else until you attempt the recovery. Every time you save a file you risk the possibility of some more of your data getting overwritten.
You'll need a File Recovery utility. I've had very good results with File Salvage in a very similar situation. You can read about it here:
    http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1
There are other utilities that do this kind of work, you can read about alternatives here:
http://www.versiontracker.com and search with 'file recovery' or 'unerase'.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhoto '08 has deleted library folders from my iPhoto - help!

My iphoto '08 has twice deleted library folders and their contents from my iPhoto. I opened iPhoto and saw all the library folders, then the beachball of death popped up and then the folders vanished. Is there any way to get these folders and their contents back?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • ITunes deletes Library File on startup (Sony VAIO, Windows 7)

Help needed. My mother has a 1 yr VAIO with Windows 7 and has a consistent problem with iTunes in that the Library file keeps disappearing and hence iTunes shows no music / TV files available to play.
    Scenario is:
    Latest iTunes version installed.
Music / TV files are on C drive
Library build happens correctly first time.
    Shut down iTunes
    Re-launch iTunes
When the program re-launches it places Library file in the 'Waste bin' and creates new temp files in the location (itunes.tmp). It also sometimes creates a new library file which is empty.
These temp files seem to be created on every launch and shut down. I deleted over 500 of them! At present the only solution seems to be to rebuild the file every time.
I never had this on any real issues on other Windows XP machines or my Mac. Have tried re-install. Can't think of any other options.
    thanks.

There is a problem with media management software Vaio xml library Manager, the Vaio content manager and the Vaio Music Box software
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8537277#8537277
    Work around:
In Control Panel, turn off Vaio Content Folder Watcher and VAIO Content Metadata Intelligent Analyzing Manager.

  • Deleting songs on iPod-deleted library in iTunes instead

I was trying to update my husband's iPod, so he created a new playlist, and I was trying to delete all of the songs on his iPod before uploading the playlist (his iPod doesn't automatically sync with iTunes).
Well, a message came up asking if we wanted to delete these songs or just delete them on the iPod. We clicked to delete them from the iPod.
Instead, the songs on his iPod were not deleted, but my ENTIRE LIBRARY was deleted instead.
UGH. I have most of the songs backed up (and no iStore songs, just CDs), but still. YUCK.
Is this a bug? Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Amy

Amy-- No, but something similar. I wanted to clear my harddrive and just keep the songs on the ipod. So I cleared the library. The next time I connected the ipod, it automatically "updated" by deleting all the songs on ipod.
My granddaughter told me to select the manual update option. I think that prevents the problem. But I am amazed that Apple doesn't have some large warning posted to prevent your type and my type of unintended deletion.

  • Can't delete Library and Servers alias from Network

    Hi there,
I did a dumb thing and now I can't cope with it's results.
From time to time I do check whether there are wlan networks near the place I live. I just do it out of curiosity and not with the intention of any ill doings. I myself have cable broadband.
Usually all those wlan connections are password protected but recently one wasn't. I checked if I can connect and browse the internet - and I could. Well, after a short while I cut the connection as my own internet access is way faster.
But now the network entry in my finder is mounted and there are aliases for "Library" and "Servers". I think these are the aliases pointing to the computer/server I did connect to before. No problem I thought, but then realized that this is an issue.
I can't delete them anymore or dismount the network folder. Whenever I want to delete those two aliases it says I can't bc I don't have the rights to do it. How I can get rid of those aliases? I guess the original host was a windows PC.
Well, that will teach me not to hassle with other peoples wlan connection
    thanks

  • Transferring from iPhoto to Aperture, Deleted Library Too Early

I'm currently moving my entire 20GB photo library from iPhoto to Aperture. I imported all of the photos to Aperture, checked that they all worked right. After playing around with the program some, I decided I really liked it, and (stupidly) deleted my iPhoto library because I figured I was done with it. I later realized that there's one more step I needed to take, that of "Consolidating Masters." Now when I click this, it tells me there's no reference files, of course.
Here's the thing. All of my pictures are actually in the Aperture library. What does "consolidating masters" do, and how do I get around it and get the pictures to actually appear in my Aperture library, instead of just their current limbo state? Any help is appreciated!

When you imported from iPhoto, did you choose to store the files in their current location, or did you choose to store them in the Aperture library? If you chose the latter, then yes, they are in Aperture library package so there are no referenced files because they are all in your library already. You would have only had to consolidate if you had chosen to store the files in their current location which would have been in the iPhoto library.
Check out this part of the Aperture manual.

Yes, select the item in the list, and then click the trash can button at the bottom of the Library panel.

  • Can't see backup library after accidentally deleting library

In trying to free up some hard drive space - it was almost empty - I accidentally deleted my entire iPhoto Library, emptying it from the trash. Thankfully I do back up to an external hard drive, and have moved the backed up library back to my Pictures folder. However, I cannot see the library in iPhoto, even when i Option-start the app and "Choose" that library. I only get 95 photos that i have imported since the accidental deletion and moved to that back up folder after re-copying it.
Any ideas why I can't see the Library in iPhoto even after choosing it? I'm not going to have to go through and import every photo am I? (I hope not as they are stored by year/month/day in hundreds of folders).
I would also like to know how to get this to work as I have ordered a new iMac today, and will want to choose the same Library on it too.
    Thanks.

    HI roger,
Navigate through the iPhoto Library folder and see if all your photos are in there. I just want to make sure that the backup library does indeed have your photos in there. If it does, and iPhoto still can't see your library, maybe a data file got messed up.
In that case, you can create a new library and import from the old very easily by following the next instructions below.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "import" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

I have an Ipod 20gig. Recently I deleted the library file, but first...

  • Auto-deleted library list in iTunes...

I have an ipod classic 160GB,
I use Windows 7,have an antivirus,
my pc has got no problem or disfunctions
but it's the 2nd time my itunes library was deleted.
I open today my itunes, via double click on the icon shortcut and most of the songs(especially those who were covert from *wmv files to iTunes)were deleted.
Why happened that?Is there a gb limit I can import?
    How can i create a back-up?
It has happened in past another time and that really worried me.

(new to itunes, as you can tell)
So I did that, hit the plus for new playlist.
Now... how to just put certain files into that new list?
I thought I could just make new "libraries" and skip playlists.

  • Deleted library setting

I have accidentally deleted the complete rig "Cool Jazz Club" from my library and from my HD and I wanted to know if it would be possible for someone to email it to me so I can put it back into Logic. Thanks!

Re-installing may be the easiest way. Re-installing will not write over your personal Logic projects. Good idea to keep a backup of your projects and important data regardless.

  • Delete Library items NOT in any playlist?

Is there any way to delete every file from my iTunes Library which is not used in any current playlist?

    Hey jasontoew,
    Sure!
    (well, with some work)
What you need is a Smart Playlist
Create one using File>New Smart Playlist
Then set selection options to Comment field > contains > In playlist (type it in)
Make sure live updating is checked
Next, add comments to multiple items (songs, audiobooks, etc)
On PC use the control key to select multiple items
On the Mac, use Apple (a.k.a "Command") key
Then from the File menu choose "Get Info"
At the prompt: Are you sure you want to edit information for multiple items? click yes
Add a comment to the comment field (i.e, same thing you entered while setting up the Smart Playlist)
You are done. Now click on the smart playlist, it should contain all items with " In playlist" in comments field
Someone may have created a program that automates this, but, I think this may be helpful to you as a start
    Hope this helps,
    Generik

  • Delete /Library/Preferences ?

One of my users has a couple of odd things going on.  One is applications complaining about weird keychains.  Adobe Reader was beefing about something like ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Security/somethingorother  On that same machine, I saw something unhappy about BuddySomethingOrOther keychain.  The other issue is login attempts that sit there with a spinning beach ball until the system is rebooted.
My initial thought was, "Delete all system preferences!"  But I couldn't find any mentions of doing that via Google, so I figured I'd check first :-)

    Ah. Your initial post noted:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Acrobat/
Since the tilde means the user account, I the presumed you meant any preferences related to that folder, not the root Library.
For the main /Library/Preferences folder, I wouldn't touch until I knew I had a way to easily fix it in case the Mac wouldn't boot to that partition after clearing it. It's easy enough. Just have any other partition with a bootable installation of OS X on it that has been tested to be sure you can indeed startup to it.
Then as before, move all preference files in the /Library/Preferences/ folder to a new folder. In this case, better to move them (or copy then delete the originals) to the other bootable drive so permission issues don't prevent you from getting at them when starting up to the other partition. Restart. Since they are preferences, and not critical system files, the Mac shouldn't have any trouble restarting. It should rebuild anything that's missing at default settings.
However, that's what the other bootable drive is for. It the Mac does balk at the removal of these preference files, then you restart and boot to the other partition. From there, copy the original preference files back into the /Library/Preferences/ folder of the drive you're testing.
