Deleted mail app

Hi there. I've managed somehow to delete the Mail app and I can't find any info about it on the web. Does anyone know how I can reinstall it? I've got an old computer, Mac OS X version 10.5.8 (Leopard).
Thanks in advance for any help.

PS I have since deleted the trash and my time machine isn't activated because it won't find my wireless connection for some reason and I've not got round to sorting it out. Stupid me!

  • I deleted mail app. How to reinstall it?

I deleted Mail app on Mac OS X 10.6.7, and if I try to reinstall it, I get this message when launching: You have Mail version 4.2 (1078/1084). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.7 (Build 10J869).  How do I reinstall it?

Download and install the 10.6.7 COMBO update. If that doesn't do the trick, use the Snow Leopard install disc and then run Software Update to get back to 10.6.7.

  • You guys might think im crazy...i deleted mail app. HOW TO GET IT BACK?!!?

okay. yes, i am an idiot. so when i first got my mac, i had no .mac account, therefore saw no point in having the mail app. i tried making it work for my own email address, but it failed and made my laptop freeze up (remeber? im a moron.) anyway, i just got a .mac account. and i kinda sorta want to use the mail app. but, in case you havent realized this yet, its not on my computer. how the heck to i get it back? can i get it back? am i completely screwed?
and yes. i am COMPLETELY aware that deleting mail was one of the most idiotic things ive ever done in my life.

Check this link with instructions for installing an individual application such as the Mail.app with your Tiger install package.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301229
Your OS detail provided indicates you are running 10.4.3 but if you are running the current version - 10.4.8, after doing so you need to download the 10.4.8 PPC Combo Update and re-install 10.4.8 to get the Mail.app to the current version as of 10.4.8.
If you are running 10.4.3 and your Tiger install package includes an earlier version - 10.4, 10.4.1 or 10.4.2, you need to download the 10.4.3 PPC Combo Update and re-install 10.4.3 after doing so.

  • Accidentally deleted mail app: How do I get it back?

Today I somehow managed to delete my mail app -- it's totally gone. I can't find a way to get it back. Anyone know how I can reinstall it? I tried a fresh reinstall but it seems to remember my last setting with it gone. I have an iPhone 4.

It is not possible to delete any of the apps included with the firmware/OS. None of the apps included with the firmware/OS are available as a separate download and install because it isn't necessary.
If you are unable to locate the app within any folder on any home page, on your iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • Foolishly deleted Mail app now I want it back!!!!

I deleted my Mail app thinking I would never need it, as I had been using Entourage, but now I actually want to use it - I am sick of the constant database corruptions I am getting with Entourage.
So I went to my trusty Time Machine backup and restored the app, but received this error:
You can’t use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mail version 4.2 (1077/1081). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.4 (Build 10F569). For more information, click the Help button.
Is there a way to get Mail back without a complete re-install?

    Hey Baltwo,
That was the answer! I actually did this before I saw your response but I'm still giving you the solve because it was the correct answer.
So just for the official record for future reference:
Apple Mail had already been installed so I did not need to do the Optional Install. However, since I deleted it prior to updating to 10.6.4, Mail never got updated. When I restored it via Time Machine, it was the previous version - which was no longer compatible, so I downloaded and ran the 10.6.4 ComboUpdate, which then updated Mail app to the current version.
    Hope that all makes sense.
Thanks for all your responses! Apple Discussions is a GREAT resource.

  • Cannot retrieve a deleted Mail app

I accidently deleted my Mail app on my G3 iBook.  I tried reinstalling it with my original (OSX10.2.4) iBook disks.  The app is back but it will not launch.  What am I doing wrong?  I currently have OSX 10.3.9 on the iBook but that was done through upgrade disks.  Thanks in advance for your responses.  Chuck

The Mail app probably should have been recovered from the 10.3 installer, and then rerun the 10.3.9 combo update.  http://www.charlessoft.com/ 's Pacifist is a good way to extract Mail from the installer.   10.2 and 10.3 may be different enough the 10.2 Mail version may not work on 10.3.

  • TS4424 deleted mail.app

I deleted the mail.app and now I'm trying to find a way to download it with no success (can't find any mail.app for my osx 10.6.8 Snow Leopard).
Can anyone inform me how to get this app.?
    Thanks in advance.

You have to reinstall OS X. To do it, insert the Mac OS X DVD or the Snow Leopard DVD and start your computer holding the C key, so your computer will start from the disc. Then, follow the steps to reinstall Mac OS X. After reinstalling it, open  > Software Update, and install all updates.
You won't lose anything reinstalling Mac OS X and you will recover the Mail application

  • I accidentally deleted Mail.app

can anybody tell me how to get it back or where i can re-dowload it?

You can't download it. You can re-install it from the DVD that shipped with your Mac, using Custom install.
EDIT: After that, you should run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater Intel to be sure to update it to the latest version.

  • TS3579 How do I reinstall mail app on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Is there an update file that I can pull a recent version of the Mac Mail app from onto my machine?
I am on Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Situation:
I never use Mac Mail, but a recent client of mine was trying to configure it and so I thought I'd pull it up and help them setup an account on the phone.
The problem is,Mac Mail doesn't come up at all. I rarely use email right on my machine, what with Gmail and Thunderbird as my usual modalities with email. The thought of littering my machine with actual email files seems archaic.
    So I deleted Mail app.
I then ran Software Update to see if it would notice the app as missing and attempt to reinstall but that was just wishful thinking. App store doesn't seem to care about existing packages on the machine beyond whatever is purchased in App store so that was a waste of time also.
I don't want to have to go through a lot of shenanigans with update programs and DVDs ...
I remember seeing somewhere how someone simply pulled the app out a recent update and just dragged it onto their machine - if anyone knows which update for 10.6.x Snow Leopard would have this app in it thanks in advance.
    Thanks in advance

    FIXED - THE SOLUTION
    1. Locate your Apple Install DVD #1 - "Mac OSX Install DVD"
    2. Download & install Pacifist See http://www.charlessoft.com/
    3. Download the "Security Update 2012-004" file from here:http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
    4. Delete all existing versions of Mail.app on system (See also https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4419244?start=0&tstart=0)
    5. Open Pacifist and choose Open Package
Browse to the Optional Installs folder on the DVD, and open Optional Installs package (mpkg)
Pacifist will take a few minutes to open the package and display its contents.
"Now would be a great time to fill out your registration card" or go get a cup of coffee or cocktail, yes you have time.
Once the package contents have been revealed, locate the Mail.app and attempt to drag it to your Applications folder.
When you do this, Pacifist will prompt you for permission to extract it to where you dragged it to.
    Click Extract
    Then enter your password:
And Pacifist will extract the Mail.app to your Applications folder:
Yes, my apps are all nicely organized - it is legal to organize and declutter the disorganized mess that is your Applications folder, which is how Apple installs it. The only problem is that because Apple thinks a disorganized mess of an Applications folder is just fine, their people don't take into account actually locating the Mail.app when they do the security update, and just assume you'll have it in the sheeple location of "Applications". That's what caused this problem to begin with.
Now, if you try to run this version of the app, on a system previously updated to 10.6.8, you will get an error:
    6. Right, so now you run the SecUpd2012 004, and reboot.
As a side note,  Security Update 2012-004 will s h i t  an unusable version of the Quicktime player into your Applications folder also.
See it there without the proper icon.
Since I had accidently deleted Quicktime 7 from my machine, not really missing it, but I was wondering what happened to it ... so using Pacifist I was also able to get a working version back onto my system the same way as Mail. So while Security Update 2012-004 s h i t s this unusable version into the Applications folder, it does nothing to update the Quicktime 7 app. Perhaps someone else can explain that. So I just deleted the unusable Quicktime Player app.
Now, Mail.app works fine even before reboot, as does Quicktime as is from the Optional Installs mpkg but you gotta reboot after the update but it should work already.

  • Is it possible to get Mail.app back?

    Hi
I have a Macbook Pro 13'' with Mountain Lion.
Since I bought it I have only used Outlook as a mail program and subsequently, I deleted mail.app with the use of CleanMyMac, since I'm on a 128gb ssd and I wanted to free up as much space as possible.
However, now I want to get mail.app and cal.app back because of recent problems with Outlook, but I can't seem to find any downloads.
Unfortunately, I can't re-install the whole OSX. So I'm looking for a solution were I can get Mail and Calender back without re-installing the OSX?
Is there anyone in the fora or at Apple HQ that can help?
And BTW, I've search the fora, only solutions involving snow leopard is available.
Thanks for putting in the effort to help me!

The ONLY way to reinstall Apple OS X pre-installed apps such as Mail and Calenedar is to use OS X Recovery
The Mail app itself is only 54MB and Calendar 47MB.
These apps are not available for individual download anywhere on the internet.
    You can't reinstall OS X?
That's a huge problem if you ever need to repair the startup disk. That requires OS X Recovery utilities.
Can you get to an Apple Strore? If so, they may be able to help you restore OS X which reinstalls the apps for you.

  • Mail.app + SMTP oddity...

    Hello all,
Several users at the college I work for are reporting a sudden breakdown of SMTP services using Mail.app under 10.4.x.
All clients were previously functioning, but suddenly stopped being able to send (they get the "could not send from this smtp server... yadda yadda" message).
All are configured with accounts on our server, so it's not a port 25 blocking issue.
It's only Mail.app clients that are having the problem (PCs seem to be unaffected).
And, the really maddening part is that it seems to be intermittent in some cases but not in others.
It's happening from a variety of Mac models, but the are all running some variant of 10.4.
In some cases we did system maintenance on the machines and deleted Mail.app's preference files to no avail.
Our SMTP server is Redhat Linux.
Any thoughts would be very helpful. We're at a loss!
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions, paul.
Can you run ethereal or similar to see what is happening between the machines and the server?

  • Mail.App Crashes on Selection of emails

I have mail.app set up to receive my mail from gmail. When I click on a message that is downloaded from google (or more recently my own domain name) despite using 3 different email accounts everytime I select a message to view it, Mail errors and quits instantly.
I have deleted Mail.App and reinstalled it via my Leopard CD. Same thing still happens.
I am trying to use Mail for these reasons and for emailing myself iCal notifications and I am becoming beyond frustrated, it is my first time trying to use Mail.App on Leopard and I am less than satisfied, I can't even use it!
    Please help! Thanks

    Hello Timothy:
I will answer here as I do not want to confuse the other thread.
First of all, the person giving you advice is obviously a "tecchie." While there is nothing wrong with that, no one should have to descend to arcane UNIX commands to fix/troubleshoot problems.
Trashing the preference file simply eliminates a possible corrupt file that, if damaged, could cause all sorts of problems. OS X rebuilds preference files as needed with default parameters.
I do not read crash logs well (nor do I ever want to do that). I have no clue where you are now since I do not know what has been done. I run one mail source (in my case, AOL) through Apple's mail application and have never had a problem.
I hesitate to suggest further things as I do not wish to worsen your situation. Frankly, if I were you, I would run an archive and install to "eliminate" any Apple software problems. Archive and install would place a fresh copy of OS X on the system while, at the same time, preserving your files, programs, and settings. As always, one should back up before any software changes.

  • Mail app deleted and reinstall wont open, says not compatible with OSX

i accindetally deleted my mail app and emptied the trash, when I tried to reinstall from the startup disk, it installs but wont open, saying that the version of mail is not compatible with the version of OSX (10.5.8)

The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
There is no downloadable version of Mail.app - it comes with the operating system i.e. on your install disks.
