Deleted Mail Messages reappearing in InBox

iCloud Mail is acting like a POP account.
If I delete a message on my Mac, it doesn't get deleted from the iPhone's InBox.
Plus, deleted messages eventually reappear on the Mac as if I never deleted them.
Even before iCloud, using MobileMe, deleting a message from either my Mac or my iPhone would not delete the message from the other device.

Hello Joe.
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Certain messages keep re-appearing in my inBox, even when I delete them.
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
Mail is only receiving some of the email messages sent to me.
Do you have any custom rules? It looks like Mail is downloading all the messages, but your rules are processing them in an unexpected way...
Open the Account Info window by choosing Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailbox list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that it doesn’t download? Do they appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?

  • Deleted mail keeps reappearing in my in box, apparentlt randomly

I am frequently receiving advice I have new mail only to find the new mail is in fact mail dating back some days or weeks. This may be 1 mail or multiple mails, perhaps up to 30 and is a real nuisance, Any advice most welcome, thanks. This only affecting Thunderbird, not Bell / Sympatico.

Deleted mail can reappear if the folder has not been compacted frequently.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_Tips_:_Compacting_Folders
'' If you don't compact your folders regularly, performance can slow to a crawl, you can't store new messages anymore, start losing parts of messages or have deleted messages resurrected.''
Suggest you move all good emails out of Inbox to other suitable folders for organising.
Then delete all emails you do not want.
then right click on Inbox and select 'compact'.
    Then empty the Deleted folder.
Also Empty and compact the Junk folder.

  • I can't edit or delete mail messages on my iphone 5

I can't edit or delete mail messages on my iphone. The edit icon at the top of the inbox is there and when pressed I can select messages but can't go further - the icon to delete has disappeared and the message that was selected deselects itself.
I already tried to restore my iPhone, this didn't help.

I have iPhone 4S and have had the same problem since I upgraded to iOS 7. I could only send and receive from iPhones.
I tried everything that was suggested. Nothing worked.
I called AT&T this morning. Turns out, iOS 7 cancelled my text messaging plan!!!! I was able text to other iPhone users because of iMessage. They turned my texting plan back on and I can now text everyone again!!

  • How can I stop auto deletion of messages from my inbox?

How can I stop auto deletion of messages from my inbox?
I've tried to fix this by changing the IMAP account's Junk settings so that they are moved either to the
    "Junk" folder on 'account name'
    or
Other: (drop down list for choosing accounts and one of its folders) Junk on 'account name'
I am sure I lost all of my important, not junk mail, amazon.com messages as well as other messages from comercial sites.
Secondly: Please tell me what the difference is between the 2 junk folder choices above.
    Thank you,
    - Jim

  • How do I delete mail messages without opening?

I'm using Mountain Lion...before ML, when I had a mail message in my Inbox that I suspected might contain malicious content I could use multiple selection to delete it along with another email that was currently in the reading pane but no longer wanted. Mail would not show the malicious email in the reading pane after selection. Now whenever I select a message it's always opened in the reading pane. How do I select a message and delete it without opening it? This is a dangerous omission. Thanks.

  • Swipe left is deleting mail messages even when swipe is disabled

Swipe left is deleting mail messages even when swipe is disabled. I had it set to "Flag", but it was still deleting them so I tried disabling it.
It does this only with my Exchange account, not other mail accounts. Running iOS 8.1, but it did it with 8.0, 8.02 as well.
Anyone else experiencing this? any fixes?

Thanks, that got me on the right track.  Searched a little more and changed the end to:
    tell application "Mail"
      (* do stuff *)
              set theSelection to selection
set theMessage to item 1 of theSelection
set theAccount to account of mailbox of theMessage
set mailbox of theMessage to mailbox "Trash" of theAccount
    end tell
    And that seems to work.

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ Accounts
Select one of your IMAP accounts in the list on the left, then open the Mailbox Behaviors tab, Uncheck the box marked
Store deleted messages on the server
Do the same in your other IMAP accounts. Save the changes when prompted.

  • In email (gmail) when I delete a message in my Inbox the next time I open mail all of the items I deleted come back into my Inbox. How do I delete them permanently?

In email (gmail) when I delete a message in one of my email accounts inbox and then close email, the next time I open email for that account all of the deleted messages reappear in my inbox. My email settings are to move all deleted messages to Trash upon closing email but but that doesn't work in one of my email accounts. It works fine in another gmail account I have. How do I get rid of the emails I wish to delet permanantly?

I am wondering if anyone is seeing my question? This is my first time and I am not sure if I am communicating correctly. If you are seeing the question above regading deleted messages reappearing please reply so I will at least know I am getting the message out.
    Thank you.

  • Using mavericks, mail, gmail. Moved messages reappear in inbox, then move.

Using mavericks, mail, and gmail and have been through the latest configuration recommendations (all mail is shown, etc.. When I drag a message from the inbox to a folder/label in mail it will reappear in the inbox briefly, then move to the destination folder. That odd bounce back to the inbox is amazingly annoying.
    Ideas?

Whenever I dragged messages from my Apple Mail Inbox to the Apple Mail Archive Gmail All Mail folder, they were returned to my Apple Mail Inbox within a few minutes. I read a number of posts here, and fiddled with settings in Apple Mail and Gmail, and made a host of other changes until I was red in the face, but no luck.
Then I reasoned that DRAGGING the mail items might be the problem, so I conducted an experiment which showed that whenever I dragged items to new folders, Gmail was not updated with the new label, and so the mail ended up back in my inbox. Whenever I MOVED mail items by means of the menu system, the mail moved successfully. Therefore it appears that Apple Mail does not change the mail labels if the mail is dragged, hence the original problem.
With this information, I opened Apple Mail and Gmail (in a web browser) and manually reconciled the Inboxes with each other. Once they were identical, I then customized the Toolbar in Apple Mail to include the Archive Icon, to make moving mail from the Inbox to the Gmail Archive All Mail, easy.
This solved the problem for me.

  • Can't delete specific messages from my inbox

I have about 40 e-mails stuck in my inbox, which I just can't delete. I move them to trash, select to delete them, but they always reappear in my inbox whenever I re-login to Mail, or when I move to another folder, and then back to my inbox - they always come back!
All these messages that are 'stuck' in my inbox are "mail delivery system" bounced-back mails, returned mails from a big mailout I did. I have tried everything I can think of, and just can't get rid of them. There have been about 18 mails stuck there for about 5 months now, and today - after doing another big mailout - I have about 40 more that I can't get rid of!
Please help!! It's driving me mad!

After MUCH searcing through this forum, I finally found the answer to my own question - and it has WORKED!!!
    I paste from another discussion:
"You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you may need to remove them from the server first. Does this account allow web access?"
All it took was using the CUT function (from the edit menu list), rather than using 'delete' or dragging them to the trash. They are gone, and it seems to be permenant this time!!
    WOHOOOO.

  • Deleting mail messages

When using my IPad I am unable to delete messages from my IMAP mail acct. I tried to delete messages both individually and as a group using the edit function; however, the messages would disappear, then I got a message that I was unable to delete/move messages and the message would be in inbox the next time I opened mail.  My Yahoo mail account works great.  Can anyone help me?

You can try this and see if it helps. Reset your iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Then try to delete the messages again.

  • Deleted Mail keeps returning to INBOX - please advise!

Please help me. I am trying to clean out my inbox because it has gotten out of control, I have over 4000 messages and I am trying to delete them in bulk.
This is what I have been doing: I highlight messages then select delete. Then, I go to the mailbox menu and select permanently delete messages - i have been doing this periodically throughout the entire process.
Then, at some point Mail quits unexpectedly. When I reopen the application ALL of the messages that I thought I had deleted are back!!
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Assuming this is a POP account and you can somehow manage to do the following without Mail crashing (you may take Mail offline to avoid new mail being downloaded while you try to fix the problem), try this:
    1. Create a custom “On My Mac” mailbox (Mailbox > New Mailbox).
    2. Instead of deleting the messages you don’t want to keep, move the messages you do want from Inbox to this newly created mailbox. Make sure that they are transferred correctly and you don’t miss anything.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
    5. Locate INBOX.mbox and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted after fixing the problem).
    6. Open Mail. A new (empty) INBOX.mbox will automatically be created within the account folder.
    7. Move the messages in the “On My Mac” mailbox back to Inbox if that’s where you want them to be.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Delete mail message information from logs according MID

    Hi,
I am interesting if any way exists to delete specific message (according MID) from IronPort mail logs .
The problem: VIP user send mail message with very sensitive information (in message subject) and we want to delete this specific message from any IronPort logs, because our HelpDesk have access to message tracking and we really don't want that HelpDesk can see subject (even accidentally)
    Thanks.

Also, another way to do this is delete the tracking db.
Note: This would delete all the tracking info.
