Deleted Mailboxes Keep Returning

I consolidated some mailboxes and updated my rules to respect the new setup. Now mailboxes that I deleted and no longer use keep returning.
Details:
I used to have a "Family" mailbox and a "Friends" mailbox. I consolidated these into "People." To create this, I moved all the messages from the Family mailbox into the Friends mailbox, renamed Friends to People, then updated my rules to funnel appropriate messages to the new People mailbox. After that, I deleted the now-depricated Family mailbox.
Every day now, on both iOS and in OS X, the Family mailbox keeps coming back. Mailboxes called "Notes" and "Deleted Messages" show up (and are promptly deleted) from time to time, too. I don't use the Notes app and deleted messages should go to the Trash, no?
What's causing this and how can I make it stop?
Thank you.

Really? No one else is seeing this?
It just happened again. An email from my mom resurrected my "Family" folder on my iPhone, when the rules set up in Mountain Lion clearly show it should've been filed under "People."
I even deleted all my old rules and recreated them based on my new folder structure. It seems somewhere, my old rules are still in play.
Ideas?

  • Deleted emails keep returning

Why do deleted emails keep returning on my mac? I use Mavericks OS.

Gmail makes it difficult to permanently erase messages.
Go to Gmail's web interface. Delete them there. Search in All Mail, select them, delete them, empty Gmail's Trash. Do this recursively until you can no longer find them anywhere.
After this it will take your iMac's Mail some time to sync with Gmail.
Then, examine your Gmail account settings in Mail. Verify that you have instructed Gmail to eventually delete messages.
    Example:

  • Previously deleted album keeps returning

A previously deleted album keeps returning to Music On This iPhone. Each song has a dotted circle in front of it. I have deleted the album from my player, and from the iTunes Media directory. No matter what I do after every sync, the album is back. Please help me remove this album once and for all.

  • TS3276 Deleted mail keeps returning

I have recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  In MAIL Gmail All Mail I keep deleting and removing from Trash but the messages keep returning over and over again.

try rebuilding your mailbox.  it may just be that your local storage has gotten out of whack with the online storage; rebuilding should fix that.

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Deleted mail keeps returning gmail

Deleted email in Gmail keep returning after I delete them from my junk mail. I'm running Mail Version 7.3 (1878.6) and OS X 10.9.4.
I've seen older posts on the Apple Community pages outlining the same problems. I've tried the various solutions:  CMD X (cut), delete/reinstall Gmail, delete originals from Gmail account, etc.  None of this works, and the now the list of old/deleted emails is growing by the week.
Anyone got any ideas?  And why did Apple never address this problem in any of its updates?

  • Deleted messages keep returning

I have configured both enterprise as well as internet mail (gmail).
Since 2 weeks I have a problem when deleting mails from the internet mail: some deleted e-mails return as unread new messages.
    Who can help me?

    Hello!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS configuration for the affected email accounts.
    Good luck!

  • Deleted messages keep returning to inbox

I have the iPad 2. I received an email from my son. Like an idiot, I clicked on the link. As it turns out, my son did not send the email. All of his contacts have been accessed and anyone opening the link are having problems.
    1. All of my deleted emails are returned to my inbox.
    2. I can receive email but unable to send out.
I have changed the password and deleted the msn acct and reinstalled.
Do you have suggestions on restoring my outgoing email and damage control for opening the spam link? Also now getting email from every spammer on the planet!
    Thanks,
    Poppy

Look through this forum please. This has been discussed. For example, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2536080. There are others, also.

  • Deleted song keeps returning to library

I described this problem originally on this post as a song mysteriously replicating itself and automatically playing when iTunes launches. Here is what I've done so far:
physically deleted the directory the song was located and removed it from the system (emptied recycle bin and cleared it from the lib.) Looked after I did this, and the song and its associated folder were removed from the iTunes directory. Then searched the etire system for any reference to the file... nothing. Restarted iTunes: the file returned to the library and physically returned to the directory structure of the iTunes subdirectory.
deleted all references to the song again. deleted the iTunes library file and recreated the library file according to the online instructions. WHen I restarted iTunes to recreate the library, nothing was there except the phantom song! I looked and once again, it recreated the sub-directory structure for the artist / song.
deleted all references to the file again. deleted the library file again. uninstalled iTunes. deleted xml file. The only thing left was the actual directory which had all my music, except the phantom song I deleted and removed from the system. downloaded a fresh copy of iTunes. Installed. What appeared in the library after the install? you guesssed it, the phantom song.
This all started when I upgraded to version six, so I looked for a previous version of iTunes to download and could not find one.
Any insight? Know where I can find an older version of iTunes? Any ideas to keep Cyndi Lauper off of my freakin' computer!?!

Activity Window - is from the WINDOW menus on the menu bar in mail - this shows how the logging in, picking up mail, synchronizing mail etc is going.
Your mail keeps coming back because you are not waiting for the synchronization to finish.
You can also stop an activity by pressing the stop sign.
What may be happening is your mail is resynchronizing because you upgraded the software.
To check mail setting for an account - right click on its mail-box to edit the account.  Settings depend on the service you are syncing.  I only have 2 and Mac is different from my main mail account - Mac defaulted to never remove messages from the server - meaning it won't do an auto purge -- but will delete and purge them if you delete (wait for sync to occur) then using the mailbox menu - erase deleted items in that account or all accounts.
You can also choose to have deleted items moved to the trash folder in mail -- remember you have to erase them to get rid of them permanently - and before you do that you have to wait for the synchronization to occur.
(Took a while to get this in and hope it takes because apple keeps cutting out to page not found)

  • Deleted Mail keeps returning to INBOX - please advise!

Please help me. I am trying to clean out my inbox because it has gotten out of control, I have over 4000 messages and I am trying to delete them in bulk.
This is what I have been doing: I highlight messages then select delete. Then, I go to the mailbox menu and select permanently delete messages - i have been doing this periodically throughout the entire process.
Then, at some point Mail quits unexpectedly. When I reopen the application ALL of the messages that I thought I had deleted are back!!
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Assuming this is a POP account and you can somehow manage to do the following without Mail crashing (you may take Mail offline to avoid new mail being downloaded while you try to fix the problem), try this:
    1. Create a custom “On My Mac” mailbox (Mailbox > New Mailbox).
    2. Instead of deleting the messages you don’t want to keep, move the messages you do want from Inbox to this newly created mailbox. Make sure that they are transferred correctly and you don’t miss anything.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
    5. Locate INBOX.mbox and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted after fixing the problem).
    6. Open Mail. A new (empty) INBOX.mbox will automatically be created within the account folder.
    7. Move the messages in the “On My Mac” mailbox back to Inbox if that’s where you want them to be.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Deleted mail keeps returning

when I delete messages in mail they keep coming back 3 or 4 times.I have rebuild mailboxes , but that doesn't help.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Check to see if you have the option "Store deleted messages on the server" enabled. You can find this under Preferences->Accounts->Mailbox Behaviors. I was having the same issue with emails popping back up after I had deleted them. Unchecking this checkbox resolved the issue. For some reason if the deleted message is being stored server side, the flag isn't being thrown that the message was deleted. As a result, the server thinks it's still valid email and continues to serve it to you. I still think this is a problem on Apple's end, because this behavior was occurring across all of my emails accounts: iCloud, GMail and private servers. So it's not the provider, it's the way Apple Mail does things.

  • Deleted emails keep returning to my inbox on my new macbook air! How can I stop this?

I recently upgraded from a Macbook to a Macbook Air and now some emails that I delete return to my inbox almost immediately. I've never experienced this issue before and it's kind of frustrating. How can I fix this?

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
