Deleted .pkg files in reciepts folder

I did a dumb thing I was trying to delete some unwanted files and got rid of all the pkg files in my Recipets folder. I now can't find my iPhotos or iTunes files..but I'm wondering if that's because I also renamed my home folder...I copied everything over (and my Mac is working fine) but now I don't know what to do about my missing pkg, photos and music.
I tried to repair my permissions but I got an error "No Valid packages" since I those are missing
So are the iTunes and iPhoto files still on my computer? I did a search and they did not come up.
If I fix the pkg problem and repair my permissions will I be able to recover my missing files
Any ideas?

Yup, that wasn't the brightest.
The reason you couldn't find your photos and music is because you renamed the Home Folder - a really big no-no. Have a read of this:

As to the Receipts Folder. This is how Software Update tracks what apps are installed. It also tracks various parts of how the apps interact with the OS - including repairing permissions. When you repair permissions the Mac compares the permissions on System Files against a database, contained in... you guessed it, a pkg file in the receipts folder.
Here's a tip. You may have unwanted files, but assume unless you know otherwise that the Mac doesn't.
You need to re-install the OS. But first, sort out the Home Folder, then do an Archive and Install to preserve your setting. But Software update will still report that your apps need updating.

Deleting individual Files from trash folder

This should be a simple question...Is there a way to permanently delete individual files/folders from the trash folder instead of emptying the entire trash folder? TIA, Scott

As Allan says, no... the trash *should not* be used as a repository for files you're not sure you want to trash yet. Not only is this extremely hazardous, as it's easy to accidentally empty the trash, but it also puts all those questionable files outside the reach of Time Machine, so they will not be backed up. If you need a "Pending Trash" folder, create one on your desktop, and then put files in the trash only once you are truly ready to delete them.

First you open a File to the specified file, and then you call delete(). Easy

Once a movie is copied into iTunes, can I delete the file from the folder?

I've copied several movies into iTunes and then sync'd them onto my Apple TV.
My question is: Once I've copied a movie into iTunes, can I delete the movie from its original folder (e.g. the Movie folder) and still have the movie in my iTunes?
More specifically, does "dragging and dropping" the movie into iTunes make a new copy of the movie file so that I can delete the original file? And if I can delete the original file, should I?

Thanks. I'll check and see when I get home tonight. My guess is that that's the setting since my disk space has decreased a lot when I started copying things into iTunes.

How to delete Icon file in Safari folder?

In Safari v2.0.4 the Icon file contains the Favicons. In v3.0.4 WebepageIcons.db contains the Favicons. My Safari 3.0.4 folder still has an alias Icon file. SafariSpeed will not remove the Favicons. I assume this is because of the alias Icon. If I trash the Icon, it regenerates on startup. A search does not find the original Icon. Using Force Delete File - Home/Library/Safari, the Icon file is grey. I need to manually trash WebepageIcon.db to remove the Favicons. No reply from Scifience to my e-mails for help. How can I delete the Icon?

The Icons file has been locked, previously, without any help. When it is locked, I can not open the SafariSpeed preferences to select "delete Favicons". You suggest locking the WebpageIcons.db file, as well, but this does not resolve the problem in my hands. Have I made an incorrect move here?

Delete locked file from /Applications folder

Hi there
I used Clean My Mac to remove a file install - something I have done many times without any problems.
This time though the application file was left behind in the /Applications folder and I am unable to move it to the Trash because it is locked.
I have tried the following
sudo chflags nouchg /Applications/CrashPlan.app
This however does not resolve the issue and I am still unable to move the file to Trash - it does not remove the locked flag
Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions how to remove the file?

Itunes won't load; deleted Apple files and temp folder & reinstalled

My itunes recently stopped working; it wouldn't load. I've uninstalled, deleted all Apple software, cleaned out the temp folder, and reinstalled (several times) and it just won't start. Any suggestion at this point? Running Windows 7 Home; Itunes 10.7.

Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

What files are in the "All My Files" folder in an iMAC? I accidentally deleted all files in this folder. Any way to recover them?

And what ever you do don't use that hard drive AT ALL until you get your files back, if that's even possible. Even though the files may still be there on your hard drive the file system sees the space they occupy as availble to write to. And OS X WILL overwrite those files if you use the drive in any way.

Some one replied me in this forum that i may 've cleanup software which has deleted the file in temp folder. How to detect and delete this cleanup software if i have it ? i don't know if i've this because i haven't seen it in my program list. i'm using windows xp.

What exactly ARE the .pkg files that collect in the 'Receipts' folder?

Hi there all.
Those .pkg files that collect in HDD>Library>Receipts. What exactly ARE these packages for? How do they tie in with Disk Utility's 'Repair permissions' option? Why do we need to keep them?
It's all Unix to me ;0)

I used to delete .pkg files after I'd installed an application. I thought i was just the electronic equivalent of throwing away the empty box after I'd bought something.
The "cardboard box" icon encouraged me to think that.
Then someone said you should never throw away those.pkg files.
So I stopped.
But the only thing that has ever happened is that during permissions repair, I get a few lines here and there that say "could not repair permissions".
I have experienced no other problems of any kind over about the last 2 years. All applications running normally, nothing weird happening.
