Deleted .spotlight folder, bring it back?

Hi,
I was looking at my external hdd connected to my Synology NAS, and saw some folders including the .spotlight folder and trashes folder.
I thought they cluttered the list, so after some googling I deleted them. However I forgot that I browse the hdd from the finder on my MacBook Air (running Mavericks) and now when I try to browse the hdd it's extremely slow.
So my question is,
is there a way for me to re-index the hdd with spotlight ?

it all depends on what's running in the macbook air that causes it to heat up.
open activity monitor - change my processes to all processes - and on the %CPU, click it twice and see what running using 10% and above in the %CPU section.
highlight anything that are using high CPU percentage and hit quit process. see if that brings the temperature back down to normal.
screenshot below is my activity monitor - have a look at it - nothing over 10% on the %CPU section.

Will not let me delete file folder

I have duplicate file folders. If I try to delete the folder it will not let me or if I can delete the folder it comes back.

I am not very tech savy but I believe I am using POP not IMAP. I can delete all other folders except the file folders that have a duplicate file. Duplicate file folder is not created by me, in fact if I try to make a duplicate file folder that already exists, Thunderbird will tell me that file already exists; change name.
Concerning the duplicate file folders (all are empty) I have three problems:
While in Thunderbird it will let me delete one of the file folders but I have to empty trash bin before I can delete the second file folder, however, when I turn my computer on the next time and go to Thunderbird the files folders are back.
When I click on properties of the duplicate file folders, one of the duplicate files has a default character Encoding of "Arabic ISO 8859-6" I have tried to change it to the "Western (ISO-8859-1)" which is what all the other file folders show but it does not help in resolving the problem.
Also when I open the properties option on the file folder, it gives an option to repair file folder which does nothing when clicked on.
I am concerned that there is some short of virus or other problem but McAfee scan shows no problems.

restore from a backup dated prior to when you synced to the new computer.
ideally... were you backing up to icloud? if so, erase all content and settings and restore from a backup in icloud dated prior to when you synced. Camera roll backs up I believe and those photos will show back up

Were you in iTunes or the Finder? If you were in iTunes what exactly did you click? You say "a folder" but the only "folders" in iTunes contain Playlists and deleting a playlist will not delete tracks from the iTunes library.
When you deleted the music were you prompted to delete the tracks from the cloud? If so, did you do so?
Were you prompted to move the files to the Trash. If so did you do so? If you did have you emptied the Trash?

Deleting "Temp Folder" to Allow iTunes to Work But It Comes Back!

Can you please help me?
I am trying to install iTunes, and for some reason this time I have got the error "iTunesSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application."(I've downloaded iTunes before and have never had this problem before.
So basically, I have followed the trouble shooting for this error, the one where you dlete iTunesSetup.exe. and delete Temp Folder. However, when I dlete Temp, it keeps on coming back. I close any other window, try again, but same thing happens. I restart comp and come back to find it still there and the trouble shooting has not worked. Help me please!!!!!

Alright Raver, I'm giving you my clean install instructions. Please read them over before you step through them to be sure you understand them. Remember to follow the steps VERY carefully, otherwise you could cause harm to your PC.
1. Uninstall itunes/ipod/QT software. Delete any old installations you might have.
2. Reboot your PC
3. Re-download the itunes installer and QT and save this installer to your desktop
4. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations. You should see folders like {06EB3288-C5F4-4C73-8EEE-AC798668FF66}
5. Look in each of these folders for itunes.msi and delete the folder. Be careful to only delete the folders containing itunes.msi
6. Clean out your temp folders, Delete as much as you can in these folders except for the folders Cookies, History, Temporary Internet Files.
a. C:\windows\temp (if one exists)
b. C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
Sometimes installers will pick up old files or won’t delete their temporary files.
7. Go to http://www.download.com/3000-2094-881470.html and download the regcleaner. Unpack it and run it. This is a nice utility that will delete broken registry entries and create a file with them. This way if it deletes anything needed you can add it back. Note I never had to do this with using it for many years. Also it doesn't list XP but you'll be fine. I run XP on both.
8. Empty your recycle bin. Reboot your PC.
9. Now try to go and install everything again. I'd do QT first then follow with itunes. Remember to disable virus/firewall/privacy/web accelerators before launching the install.
If you still can't install then I might need a install log. However I'll give you those steps if these don't work.

Deleted Items Folder renamed, how do I get it back.

I have user who was dragging e-mails from her inbox to deleted items. So how, one of the subjects of the e-mail is now her deleted items. In otherwords the deleted items now has another name and I have no idea how to rename it back. Any ideas? First for

I would like to ask
whether the Deleted Items folder is renamed, or one of the deleted emails in the Deleted Items folder is renamed.
If it is the Deleted Items folder, we cannot rename or move or delete the default folder in Outlook, try start Outlook with this switch:
/resetfolders.
If not work, try create a new Outlook profile.
Also, try to scan viruses.

You can't download pictures from iCloud by logging into icloud.com. If you deleted pictures from camera roll AND photo stream, the only possibility is preforming a restore from an iCloud backup, assuming the backup has the pictures in it. (Many users have been unable to restore and get back their pictures.)
If the restore doesn't have all the pictures, then they are gone.
In the future, use photo stream to sync photos from an iPhone to a computer, then copy the photos on the computer from the photo stream album into a permanent album. Photo stream pics stay there only for 30 days, and only up to 1000 photos are stored. Don't use photo stream as a storage medium, it's only for copying photos from one device to another. Always copy (either via USB cable or photo stream) to a computer and then move to an album.

If you do not have this option Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

The folder where i mainly listen to got deleted how do i bring it back???

Tip: Never make big playlists either! I had one with a very specific chronology to it, and of interest only to myself. About 400 tracks. It got scrambled during sync issues last week. Result: made several smaller playlists by dividing them up even further; easier to redo if they get messed up again...and arguably an improvement anyway.
If you lose a playlist, you don't lose the tracks themselves.

Since I updated to 18.0.1, I lost "Restore Previous Session". None of the suggested fixes brings it back.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you made a Time Machine backup before deleting the applications, you can recover them from your backup. Just go to the Applications folder, and open the Time Machine app, so you will be able to recover the applications just navigating through your backups.
However, there are some applications that won't work after doing this, because they require other system files. In this case, you will have to download the apps again from the Internet and install them using the installer

I'm new to apple mail and I accidentally deleted an email out of my inbox, but I don't have the deleted items folder on the left hand side column to find and bring the email back to my inbox.
How do I get the view to see my deleted items folder in the left had side column of the mailbox screen?

I figured it out. Once you go into the view options of your folders for the first time...like trash. It auto populates the folder in the left hand side column of the mail client. Pretty cool!
