Deleted text appears in playback

Hi
Using FCE HD 3.5, I generated a crawl text that I rendered then later deleted.
There is no clip showing in the timeline however the text still appears during playback.
I am unable to highlight the text in the canvas and am at a loss.
thx
g5 quad   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

thx for the reply. I tried trashing the preferences and seem to have lost the latest version of my movie as well.
I agree that corrupt files are to blame. I will trash the render files and see if that works.
trashing the render files from today(when the problem showed up) did not seem to help.
was nervous to trash all

  • Text won't stop deleting, delete key appears to get "stuck"

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, I have never used the support forums for any of the multitude of problems I have had with my Mac, but this one is severe and odd enough that I couldn't even find anyone else discussing it (although I'm sure someone is, but I tried many search key combinations on Google and only found unrelated things), so I decided to at least get it documented.
I have had an issue that has happened at least 3 times I can remember (I am fairly certain it has happened more, closer to 7-8, those are just the times I am 100% confident about), although very spaced apart and infrequent, where my delete/backspace key seems to get "stuck". However, at least one time I can verify that I never even hit the key. Whatever text I currently have open immediately starts deleting at lightspeed, and I can do nothing to stop it. None of the other keys on my keyboard work, and though my mouse works, if I click somewhere else, it starts deleting the text there. When I force it to go to another window where there isn't an open text box, I get the general Mac error sound, and it repeats non-stop, and faster than I've ever heard it. I have to do a hard shut-down, although once it led to a kernal panic. When I have stopped whatever is happening before it panics though, when I restart, I don't receive any kind of error message, nor the message about OS X not having been shut down properly.
Every single time it has happened when I was typing something that couldn't be saved, like a message on a forum, a private message on a site or an IM chat window. Sometimes I lost a half hour's worth of work or more.
The first time it happened, I honestly thought someone had managed to hack into my computer, but another time I was using a physical modem and Airport was turned off, and when I ripped out the cord, it didn't stop.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007, running the most recent version of Tiger. I haven't had the money to upgrade. All security updates are up-to-date, with one exception: I have not upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes.
Honestly, I currently am having and have been having a bunch of other severe issues with my Mac, so troubleshooting will be quite difficult as it's not at all impossible it's a result of one of my other problems. I also currently am dealing with some health problems that make me unable to try to find the root of the problem, specifically I have a problem with my hand and wrist that makes typing very difficult.
If someone does recognize this issue and already knows why it might be happening, I'd appreciate the help. I'd also appreciate anyone letting me know how I can prevent it OR what to do when it begins and how to stop it. But I probably will be unable to go through a typical troubleshooting rundown.
As I said, I just wanted this documented, and I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. I have never experienced an issue like this with any of my past computers, including Macs and PCs. I do know however that the key is NOT physically getting stuck - as in getting lodged down and continuing to be pressed. There is at least 1 time I can verify I never even hit the key (I wasn't typing anything at the time). I am fairly sure the problem is entirely unrelated to the actual delete key itself.
I'll describe the symptoms one more time:
At a random time, with no discernible warning, text contained in whatever text box I have open begins deleting itself. Several paragraphs disappear in a matter of seconds.
Pressing escape or any other key on the keyboard does nothing. If I click to another area in the text, it will immediately begin deleting wherever I have placed the cursor. If I go to another window with text that can be edited, it begins deleting there. It does not delete in more than one place simultaneously.
If I bring another window without any kind of "deletable" text to the front, one of the general Mac error sounds (I'm not sure which one it is) starts happening and repeats without stopping at a rate that could induce a seizure. To stop it all, the only thing I have found can be done is a hard shut-down. Another time it continued to end in a kernal panic. I wish I had the details of the error, but it was so long ago and I have no idea which panic is the right one in the logs.
I have no way of knowing what programs were running at the time, as obviously that's not something I'm able to pay attention to when it happens, and it has happened so randomly and infrequently it's nothing I've been able to document. Since I have to restart to make it stop, I've then lost that info and I have no time to try to write it down or something beforehand.
I have not had any similar issues that I know of (for instance, for the "g" key keeps repeating and won't stop typing "g's") and I've never experienced this on any past computer.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
If you aren't able to offer advice but have had this issue yourself, PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to find anyone who has experienced this particular problem.

"Cleaning the keyboard is the first step in troubleshooting sticky/stuck keys."
Okay, I guess I misunderstood, although I am still confused. You're saying that since the other user did an extensive clean of their keyboard and this did not solve the problem, it is "most likely" a hardware problem, correct? Wouldn't a thorough cleaning without any results show that it's probably not physically related to the keyboard?
"The "delete" key may be defective or the cover you are using somehow is making the key stick. If you have ruled out the latter and everything else, your only other alternative is to take the MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will check out your keyboard (free) to confirm if you are having a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare or ProCare, the repairs will be free. If not.................."
Well, I had just said in my most recent post that it has now happened with other keys, and in my initial post that it happened at times when my hands were nowhere near the keyboard. It is not a defective delete key and the cover is not making the keys stick - it doesn't adhere to them and does not have any sticky substance on it of any kind. I am an experienced computer user, and I know my computer very well. While I am not a psychic that can always know what is causing a problem, I am able to discern with much accuracy what is NOT causing it.
Also, I have significant health issues so getting to an Apple store would be a huge challenge for me. And although I have AppleCare any repairs won't be free. Due to some small physical damage my laptop obtained a few years ago, I have been completely refused almost all service that I paid over $300 for, even though the damage is completely superficial. After fighting this, I was told they WOULD repair my computer, however, they would also repair the physical damage despite my insisting NOT to; I had no choice in the matter and the cost would be a minimum of $1,500 (I also would not be informed the exact price until after and my credit card would be charged without my knowledge - I had to give them my credit card number and sign away their right to make any charges and when I requested being contacted before they charged me for the repairs I didn't want done, I was told they did not do that). My family is struggling to pay for my $5 medications.
When my logic board died (that same issue that affected thousands of computer users), I had to print out Apple's report from their site, which stated that they would replace and repair them free of charge to ANY Mac owner with a computer that met certain qualifications (which mine did). When it happened, completely out of nowhere, I knew immediately that was the problem, yet still had to go through the insulting and idiotic "Is your computer plugged in?" list of things and a customer WITH AppleCare was being refused a service they'd offered to people WITHOUT AppleCare, for a known manufacturing defect that has occurred widely in nearly every brand of computer made.

  • HT1296 I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour.

I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour and there is a downlaod symbol in front of the song title.  what do i do next??  They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. This happened once before and it was due to a buldging battery pressing on the track pad. I checked the battery and it appears to be fine. What can I do?

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Why can I not use mouse or keyboard to delete text?

I have encountered a strange anomaly.  I have recently installed the update to OSX and iTunes, and now I have been unable to delete text or correct mistakes using the DELETE key on keyboard or the mouse itself.  I can only delete with the pull down menues in Safari or Entourage (my email preference).  Any ideas?

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

  • Ctrl+C+C deletes text in any Browser but...

Don't know for what reason, but Ctrl+C+C that I've bound to copy the text and translate it via Goldendict seems to delete any deletable text in all other browsers except Chrome or Chromium, (Firefox and Opera works ok too).
Midori or any other Webkit derivative deletes the word when I hit Ctrl+C+C.
I understand that Goldendict can be the reason for not correctly working with those, but I need somebody's opinion on that issue.

  • How can I recover my deleted text messages

I need to recover some messages that I accidentally deleted

What can you do to recover deleted text messages from iPhone?
Step 1: Select Your iPhone Backup File and Scan
Launch the Coolmuster Data Recovery for iPhone/iPad/iPod program which you've installed on your Mac, then it will automatically scan the latest iPhone, iPad or iPod backup file on your local disk and display one by one as below picture shows. Just choose your iPhone and hit "Start Scan" button to start scanning for files on Mac.
Step 2: Preview and Find Target Files
After the scanning, all your iPhone files will be found and divided into different catogories. Here, you can click "Messages" option in the left panel and find your deleted text messages one by one.
    Step 3: Begin to Recover
Once all things have been done, you can click "Recover" to restore deleted text messages from iPhone on Mac. Here, a pop-up window will appear to require you to set the output folder.

  • Unable to edite or delete text while making a book.

In iPhoto I am trying to make a book. However I am unable to edit or delete text. I can type text in - sometimes, but then cannot edit it after. Also, sometimes when I click in the text box, the text dissapears and will only re appear when I click elsewhere out side the text box.
I have checked for updates and there is none. I am up to date on it. And this is a brand new mac, it's only 3 days old.
If anyone can help, it would VERY much appreciated!!

    Hi,
yes the error was the version; I was manually set it as the previous one in the WS call. Removiing the filed solved the problem about the upload issue.
The delete command gets back a null pointer exception but I think it is a XAI Ibound Service bug which tries to load the resulting BO which has been just deleted :)
    Thanks,
    Antonio

  • Some text appears bold when published.  Why?

    Hi.
I've used iWeb to create my very first web-site, but I have an annoying problem. On my links page, one particular block of text appears in bold when viewing on a browser. The text is not bolded, though, in iWeb.
    http://web.mac.com/stevenrichardjackson/iWeb/bloggermepink/links.html
Look at the links on the right hand side, under the subheading "Apple".
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to make this text appear the same as the rest if the text on that page.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve.

Wow -- this is getting stranger and stranger...
I did what you suggested, namely duplicating the "Apple" links text box, deleting the "Films" and "Geekery" text boxes, repositioning the duplicated box into the desired place and re-typing the links. This sounded like a pretty good suggestion.
    However...
    Now have a look:
    http://web.mac.com/stevenrichardjackson/iWeb/bloggermepink/links.html
If you put your mouse over the "Geekery" links and move it around a bit, you'll see that the Xbox sites have a phantom space that appears and disappears depending on where the mouse is hovering...
The only explanation I can think of is that there is some kind of bug in iWeb's Publish function. Has this section of my web-site been published twice, and the second publish hasn't overwritten the first???
This might be way off mark, but what else could be causing this?
I have checked my file in iWeb, by the way, and there's no hidden text box or anything like that...
    Hope you have a suggestion.
    Cheers,
    Steve.

  • Help with wanting to restore deleted texts only

When you're in iTunes and choose the option to restore your iPhone at what point does iTunes ask you if you want to restore from your last sync or does it automatically do it from the factory settings? I am scared to lose all of my information. When I started the process it asked me if I wanted to backup first? Which I don't cause I am trying to retrieve text messages that were deleted by the bug of texting photos and having all of your text messages deleted. Someone said that by choosing restore to the last restore date avaiable it would let you do this.
So when I get the back up question, am I supposed to say no? and after I get asked restore to what date? Also I ONLY want to do this for text messages. All of the other info is fine.
    Please help + thank you!

If you synced your phone while these text messages were on your phone and you haven't synced since, then you can restore your phone from your backup, which will revert all the data and settings on your phone to the state they were in when you last synced (including the deleted text messages).  You will lose any new data since this backup, however.  To do this:
Prior to connecting your phone to your computer open iTunes and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"
Connect your phone to your computer and when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar, right-click on it and select Transfer Purchases.  (This will transfer any recent purchases on your phone to your iTunes library before you restore it from backup.)
When it finishes transferring purchases, right-click on it again and select Restore from Backup.

  • Can't Delete Text Messages - Treo 750

I've had this issue before on a different unit, and AT&T's solution was to simply mail me a new phone after both a hard and soft reset didn't work. After I purged my Sent Messages folder, one still remains. In the folder the recipients name remains, but the message is blank. You can open it, there is no text and if you try to delete it the "Are you sure you want to delete" message appears and after clicking yes, nothing happens. Any ideas?

And the message remains after a hard reset?

  • Cant delete text messages from my iphone 4s

i have not been able to delete text message since the new update ios 8.3.
i go to the message screen select person i want to delete. and press the red delete button. but when i turn my phone
off and turn in it back on. the message appears again.

Hi maryamss, the iPhone never really deletes things it just hides it from the system sounds like something has gone askew. Have you tried a hard restart? Hold the Home and Power buttons down together, keep them held until the phone shuts of and you then see the apple symbol may take up to 20 seconds. It is then safe to release the buttons. Failing this restoring your phone with iTunes should sort it out.

  • Latin filler text appears out of nowhere

I'm using InDesign for the first time to build a book. A book publisher has given me templates to use. My book has two kinds of pages, one for chapter title pages and the other for the pages within a chapter. I want each of the chapter title pages to have a unique color, which I apply.
I just applied a color to the title page for Chapter 1. I succeeded in getting the color I wanted, but Latin filler text appeared under the color! I don't know how to make the words disappear. Can someone please explain what happened and tell me how to keep the color and get rid of the Latin text?

I'm grateful for the replies. As a rookie user, I wasn't even aware that there were layers, or how to find the Layers panel. When I found it, I simply selected the Latin filler text and deleted it. The rest of the page remains intact.
Even though the error is corrected, I still don't know how the text got there. It's not on the master page. It remains to be seen whether the text was added by an unwitting rookie blunder or is buried in the template and bound to resurface.
PS. The decision to print in color — this is a book of flower photos — is quite apart from my "where did the text come from" and "how do I delete it" inquiries.

To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.
