Deleted the iPod Software Updater 2006-01-10

My Ipod was not sync'ing any songs so i thought i was because of the iPod Software Updater 2006-01-10 so i deleted it thinking when i restore the ipod to it's factory setting it will install it again, but although when i restored the ipod the songs sync'ed fine and everything was working but it didn't replace the iPod Software Updater 2006-01-10 that i deleted ealier. I found a website where i can download it again but it says that the system reqirements are 10.5.1 or later and i have a 10.4.11, which cant be right because i had it intalled on my system before. Should i download this version, do i even need it?

You don't need it, you update through iTunes now, not through a separate updater.

  • My Ipod says to use the Ipod software updater application??

I unplugged my Ipod and all the songs got deleted. This is the 3rd time this has happened and now when I plug it in to put the music back on, a box pops up and says "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod MICHELLE'S (that's my iPod). Use the iPod Software Updater application to restore the iPod to factory settings." What does this mean? & how do I update it to factory settings? Can someone please help?

Use the instructions in this article to restore the iPod with the iPod updater; use the document it links to if you are using iTunes 7. Some iPods may require that they be connected to the iPod AC adaptor, a car adaptor, or a 6-pin FireWire port before the restoration process can be completed.

  • Tried to restore my ipod touch 4th gen but it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" Please help!

Ok so I reset my ipod touch 4th gen and it got stuck on the apple logo screen and holding down the buttons just made it turn off for a few seconds and go straight back onto the logo screen, nothing was happening with it connecting to itunes either. But I held the home and the power button down at the same time while connected to my laptop and then when the logo reappeard I released the power button and it came up with with the itunes logo and the usb logo. It then allowed me to select restore on itunes which I did but a box popped up saying "The ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.

So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
    In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
    Can someone help me out, please? :}

  • IPod Touch 4gen disabled "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted" Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.  Please help!

My daughter forgot her passcode.  Her iPod Touch 4gen is disabled.  I've tried everything I've read online.  I get to the "Restore" part on iTunes and then I get the message, "The iPod Software update server could not be contacted.  Make sure your network connections are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."  How can this be so hard to do?  Why isn't there a simpler solution.  I live 2 hours from the nearest Apple store.  Any advice you may offer would be very much appreciated.

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • I've forgotten my passcode and when trying to restore it I get "The iPod software update server could not be contacted"

I recently had my iPhone taken away from over-use so I thought I'd just use my iPod I haven't used in forever, when turning it on it said locked for 21 million minutes, so I checked out few videos, fix it on iTunes, and when I could access my iPod, my mind went complelty blank, so I checked out so more videos on what to do when fogetting your passcode, and I found you had to restore your iPod, which was fine by me because, I have maybe an app or two on it, so wiping everything out wouldn't be anything.. But, when I go to restore my iPod I get, like in the title, "The iPod software update server could not be contacted" any ideas on what to do?

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers

  • Trying to update keep getting a message "the ipod software update server could not be contacted Network connection could not be established" using mac OSX. done this with 2 ipod touches??

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.

Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.

  • 'The iPod software update server could not be contacted.'

I have recently been having problems with my iPod touch 2g.
I updated my iPod and everything worked fine, but I realised it had wiped my iPod clean, and I changed it back to recover my lost notes. I got most back, but when I tried to update it again, the problems came.
Whenever I tried to click restore on iTunes, an error kept coming up:
"This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started."
I tried searching around for answers but nothing would work. I cannot acess my iPod. It is frozen on the recovery mode screen, (the image of a USB and iTunes logo), and cannot be switched off. I have tried uninstalling iTunes multiple times and restarting my computer.
When I started this update, I had iTunes 10. (Not sure exactly which one). Though at one point I updated it to iTunes 11, but quickly uninstalled it and when back to 10 because I didn't like it. Maybe this had something to do with all the errors? I don't know.
Then overnight, my iPod was just left on the recovery mode screen, unable to do anything with it. When I switched my computer back on to try again, when I click restore, a new message comes up:
"The iPod software update server could not be contacted."
I again tried researching but nothing has worked. My internet connection is perfectly fine. I can't use my iPod at all. It needs restoring, iTunes recognises that, but will not let me click restore. iTunes store works fine.
Please, somebody help?! I don't know what to do.
    p.s. I'm using Windows 7.

    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem
