Deleted user account saved file doesn't contain latest files

Someone I know deleted one of the users accounts on their iMac. Not the admin account. When doing this there was an option to save the account files. That was done. After rebooting to the 1 account that was left, the admin account they opened the .dmg saved user file from the deleted account. But that file did not include any of the new files over the past few months like files on the desktop or iphoto stuff. The desktop files that were saved were from months ago and everything else was old.
Any ideas what happened to all the current files from that account?
thx

  • New Macbook Air setup problem with deleting user account

I recently changed from a MBP to a MBA and upon completing my migration data from old mac to new one I had an extra user account. So I have my admin account and a guest account and a third account that I don't want. Upon trying to delete this account it show "deleting user account and home folder" but it has been doing this for more than an hour therefore it will not let me exit system preferences. Any help on this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "need configuration data ... " However, if both computers are on your network then you should be able to synchronize various files or folders using backup software. However, to start you will need to enable File Sharing on one of the computers.
For help with this select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu. Search for "file sharing." You should find several links on how to configure it on your computer. Also see Mac 101- File sharing and Tutorial- File sharing in OS X - MacFixIt.
Once file sharing is set up you can then try a backup utility to do the synching. Most backup utilities not only do backups but can also be configured to synchronize files and/or folders. Here are some possibilities:
    Backup Software Recommendations
    1. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    2. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    3. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    4. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
    5. Data Backup (Commercial)
    6. SilverKeeper 2.0 (Freeware)
    7. Tri-Backup (Commercial)
    8. SyncTwoFolders (Freeware)
9, Data Lore (Commercial - exclusively for network file transfers over Bonjour.)
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Can't delete user account with open shopping cart

    Hi all,
Is it okay to delete user account with open shopping cart? I can't delete user by users_gen, it says existing partner document. I then applied notes 1148837,report PARTNER_SET_DELETE. And this report doesn't really work. I ran it and it found zero occurrnences. Is anybody using this report?
So is it the only way to delete user from SRM is by su01 and leave some informations on Busines partner (bp)
    Thanks,
    Kev

Hi. You can easily lock the user and change the validity dates using SU01.
Then, I would write a program that looks through all locked users and checks their valdity dates. Table USR02 holds all this data.
Then, if the user is locked and the validity end date was 3 or 6 or whatever months ago (make this a selection parameter probably), then you know you want to delete this user.
So, go into table HRP1001 where SCLAS = US and SOBID = user name and OTYPE = CP and get field OBJID. This is the central person (CP) number.
Then, go into table HRP1001 again, this time where SCLAS = BP  and OTYPE = CP and OBJID = the CP number and get field SOBID. This is the business partner (BP) number.
Now, run function BAPI_USER_DELETE to delete the SU01 user fully, then function HR_CENTRALPERSON_DELETE to delete the central person, then function BUP_BUPA_DELETE to delete the business partner.
    And that should delete everything.
    Regards,
    Dave.

  • Deleting user accounts

Is there an automated way to delete user accounts on a regular basis through Apple Remote Desktop

Well you can issue a send unix command or set ARD to regulary send a unix command. The complecity of that unix command is really up to what you can find, hire, or can write yourself.
If your accounts are coming from an Open Directory or Active Directory, you can configure the account to be 'mobile accounts.' At witch point you can set mobile accounts to expire after x time of inactivty.
But why do you want to delete accounts? what about the risk of deleting files a user wants / needs.

    Hi There,
Can you please assist with providing instructions on how to manually delete USER accounts on MAC OS X 10.6.8.  Everyone but one user (who's account was deleted) can not log into the damain device.  As a test I tried to add a new user accout with the same name as before and even though nothing existing in the USERS folder; it states that a duplicate name exists.
How do I delete that duplicate?  Where could that be located?
    Please let me know,

    Solution!
Command to locate the hidden User Profile:

  • Restrict Users from saving files on Local PC but forced to Network Shared Location

    Hi,
We have the Domain in Windows 2003 Standard.
How can I restrict users from saving files in their Local PC?
Also, need to forced them to save the files in Network Location with permissions...
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can create a file screen to prevent users from saving files on a certain volume. File screens are used to block specific types of files from being saved on a volume or in a folder tree. A file screen affects all folders in the designated path. You need
to update the server to Windows Server 2003 R2 to install the File Server Resource Manager.

  • Apple Configurator - 1.2 (Delete User Account while Checked Out)

    Hi Community,
I have a supervised iPad that was checked out to a particular user. The user account in apple configurator was deleted while checked out. The iPad is now unavailable to check out because it is permanently checked out to the deleted user account.
I reset and deleted all information on the iPad but since it is supervised it comes right back to the point I checked it out (which I really like). But in this situation how to I get that user off...because I can't check it back in and currently can't use it for anyone else.
    Thanks!

I attempted to, but if a device is checked out to a user the unsupervise option isn't available. This is only because I believe the device was checked out and the user it was checked out to was deleted. Normally if there wasn't a user checked out to the device unsupervise would be available.

  • Deleting User Account and associated files

How can I delete a user and the accounts associated files and documents ONLY for that user account?

Thanks for the speedy responses.  No, I'm not trying to restrict users.  I am selling my iMac and wanted to leave the programs in tact for the new user and just wipe everything off that is associated with me.  I have MS Office Suite on the iMac and offered to leave it there for the person I'm selling to since I don't use it anymore anyway.  I think in deleting my user account, I lost the Office Suite.  I'm just in the middle of it all right now so not 100% sure.  Thanks so much for your good help.

  • Not Enough Hard Drive Space on my Mac Mini to Save Deleted User Account Folder: What to do?

I am no longer able to access my original user account on my mac mini because the account is corrupted and won't load. Thanks to the helpful advice I found on the internet, I was able to create a new user account and resume using my mac, but all of my old files are trapped in the old user account.
The plan was to delete the old user account, create a disk image of the old account folders, and then migrate those folders to the new user account. Unfortunately, I don't have enough disc space left on my Mac to do that. I have just under 11gb left after deleting absolutely everything I could, and I need 81gb for the old user files. The back up plan was to select the "don't change the home folder" option, but when I went to delete the account, there was no such option. The message simply read:
"The user's home folder will not be saved. To do so, you need 81.1gb of free disk space. Try emptying the trash or deleting other files on your disk, then deleting the user account. If you do not want to save the user's home folder, click delete immediately."
My only two choices were CANCEL or DELETE IMMEDIATELY. There was no "don't change the home folder" option.
So I am not sure how to proceed. Here are some questions:
    1) is there a way to save the disk image directly to an external drive instead of the user's folder on the mac hard drive?
    2) If I use the "delete immediately" option, will the files go into a "deleted users" folder where they can be recovered or will they just be erased from the computer and unretrievable?
    3) Is there a way to use terminal to change access permission on the original user account files so that I can copy them onto an external drive or integrate them with the new user account without having to first delete the original user account?
    4) In the absence of deleting the user account, will using either:
    sudo chown -R `id -un` /Users/oldusername
    and/or
    sudo chmod -R u+rw /Users/oldusername
in Terminal allow the new user account permission to access the original user files and merge them seamlessly into my new user account? Or must I delete the original account first?
    5) Is there something else I haven't thought of that would work, would be more efficient, or more effective? This wouldn't be the first time I have overthought a solution...
When considering any solutions, please keep in mind that I cannot launch the original user account as that starts the whole endless loading loop. So, while I have the password for the original user account, any solution would appear to require that I work from the new user account only, without launching the old account.  Also I am a complete newbie at this. I've used Macs exclusively for 17 years but this is the first time I've had to do anything like this. Up to now, everything has always "just worked".  So please be as detailed with any instructions as possible!
    Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
Mac Mini 2ghz 1g ram running OS 10.4.11

I think ComputerFixer is correct, you should be able to drag and drop it to another drive, no worries. However, if not, you could create an disk image of it using DiskUtility and create it on a new drive. But again, I don't think that is necessary. If you have administrator rights with your new account, can you simply go into the old user account folder and drag and drop the files you want to save? I have done that as well as copy the older user account to another drive (in my case, another computer on the network) and salgage my files from there. Is that an option for you?

  • HELPDeleted user account with file vault on to free disk space, to no avail

My saga is a long one. Quick telling: I am the administrator on my eMac, and was locked out of my desktop last spring when the disk became overly full. File vault was turned on, and I was told by my computer repair folks that since the desktop was encrypted, it could not be accessed. A sad situation, since I had not backed up the disk, and had years of family photos that were lost, not to mention iTunes, Quicken, and more.
Since then I bought a back-up disk, and saved a copy of that desktop, just in case.
My computer is overly full again, and today I decided to delete my old user account in order to free space. Of the 160G in this computer, 80% was associated with that user (that is, me). I deleted account via the System Preferences window and its Accounts window.
I emptied the trash, and 'got info' on my hard drive, only to see that nothing had disappeared, memory-wise! I am still nearly full--only having 2G available, rather than the 130 or more that I had hoped to free up.m I restarted too.
I went to Apple Support to find that one should turn off File Vault before deleting a user account. Unfortunately, this is impossible for me, since I can not/could not access the user account to turn it off.
SO here is my question: is there a way to delete the files of a user account that had file vault turned on, but that is inaccessible? There is no deleted user file in my User folder, by the way.
I am not suer what to do. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks for your insights.
The Tech Tool report happened after AppleJack, and never showed up before that. Restarting again just now, it showed up again.
I had not emptied the trash, but did now, and the 'get info' on my hard drive still shows that I have used nearly all of my 160 GB.
Re Disk Warrior: I do have it and just ran it. I emptied trash again and checked to see available disk space: I have 2.47 GB, so the problem still exists.
Here is the disk warrior report for the first part of its tests:
DiskWarrior has successfully built a new optimized directory for the disk named "Hildegarde." The new directory is
ready to replace the original directory.
There is not enough contiguous free space for a fail-safe replacement of the directory. It is highly recommended that
you create 204 MB of contiguous free space before replacing the original directory.
All file and folder data was easily located.
Comparison of the original and replacement directories indicates that there will be changes to the number, the
contents and/or the attributes of the files and folders. It is recommended that you preview the replacement
directory and examine the items listed below. All files and folders were compared and a total of 14,627,488
    comparison tests were performed.
    • Errors, if any, in the directory structure such as tree depth, header node, map nodes, node size, node counts, node
links, indexes and more have been repaired.
    • 1 folder had a directory entry with an incorrect custom icon flag that was repaired.

  • User account missing files and preferences??  Not from renaming home folder

    Hi all,
After some strange behaviour in Apple Color, upon rebooting, my user account has returned to default. I had many items on the desktop and various subfolders in the documents folder. All pictures. Music. All are now gone. Desktop and dock have been reset to default.
The user folder still exists but everything I had in there is gone.
Another user may have been created called "root" containing only
    /Library
    /Documents/Color Documents...etc
I am aware of the problem with changing the short name or renaming the home folder (after sifting through this forum) and it is definitely not this problem.
Maybe its somehow related but I definitely did not rename any of these things myself. And there is no duplicated user account with all my files in it.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Nate
ps. Is it possible to restore the system to an earlier time like in Windows?
I've read somewhere that a Previous System folder exists and it might be possible with Disk Utility but I can't find this folder anywhere.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I've managed to restore most of my important stuff using a file recovery software so I'm at peace with the loss of only a few files now. I'll just have to start rebuilding my dock and preferences again now which is not the end of the world.
After a bit of thinking about it I'm 95% sure this is what happened.
Color tried to save an image file with the same name as the folder I had made storing all my Color project saves. The folder was called Post. I'm not quite sure how its possible but it managed to overwrite the folder with the new image file. Now there is a Color image file (with no extension) there called Post and no folder.
Then I tried to save the Color project and of course it told me the project directory was missing and it will create a new one. I'm guessing this is when Color bulldozed through my user account to create the folder Color Documents where it DIDN'T save the file anyway
Leaving me with a default user account deleting everything that was 'added' to the account previously.
It also created another user account called 'root' in which there is also only a Color Library/preferences and documents folder
Is that normal that things like that can just happen?
I guess from here I will just try and finish my project and afterwards do a re-install of the OS just to be sure - checking the Archive and Install option this time
Unless you have any other ideas from what I've told you.
    Thanks again for replying
    Nate

  • Attempting to restore User account (saved as folder, not disc image)

I was using this article to restore it, though I have Snow Leopard and not Lion. I'm having trouble at "Rename the home directory by removing (Deleted) so that the folder name becomes the account name of the deleted user." I can't rename the file. I tried clicking twice as I normally do, I tried using Get Info to change it that way, but even after unlocking it I couldn't edit the name.
Am I doing something wrong that I'm overlooking? Is the article I'm using too outdated? Is there another way I can restore the User account; most How To's seem to be for if it was saved as a disc image, which I didn't do.

Never mind, I've solved it on my own. I needed to log in as root.

  • Accidentally deleted user account

    Hi, please help
I had a problem with a user's account and saw there were two identical mobile accounts in the Accounts preference pane. I deleted one of them using the option to "delete immediately" without realising I should have used the other option which creates an dmg file and moves it to the Deleted User area. Is there any way I can retrieve this folder as it contains all of the user's mail folders from Entourage.
    Many thanks

    unixhater,
    Stop using the Mac!
The only hope you have of recovering the files, is to use a Third-Party recovery utility, like Data Rescue II.
