Deleted user dmg has no info in it

I deleted a user and have a saved dmg in the deleted users file. I need to access some files that were on their desktop. When I click on the appropriate dmg, it mounts, but then there is no info inside. Any ideas/suggestions? Is there somewhere where I can find the deleted users files? Thanks,

Yes, that is what I tried. The dmg will mount and say that it has 4.6 GB of info, but then there is nothing in it?!?! I'm thoroughly confused. Everything happens exactly as in that article you suggested, except there is no info inside the mounted disk.
Found the most important file, for some reason was unreadable at first but fixed that, now I would like to view the dmg, but am ready to throw in the towel if this doesn't have an easy answer. Thanks

  • Opening a Deleted User .dmg?

    Hello,
I have a number of old employee Deleted User .dmg files. If I ever need to gain access to these, can I "log in" via this user (somehow by mounting the .dmg file first?) or does this .dmg file just act as an "archive" of the user account so I can access the files contained via finder?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

Opening the dmg will provide access to that account's files. Being able to log in to an account requires that there is an entry for that account in the NetInfo database, a subset of which is available in the Accounts pane of System Preferences.

  • ADCS Delete user process task

I am very sorry to ask this question to you, But I am helpless here,
Dev team has implemented Provisioning/DeProvisioning process for AD. If user terminated, OIm first disable the user's AD account and after 21 days, its deletes the AD account. I am not able to find, how and when "ADCS delete user" task has been invoked by oim. Can any one please help me to find it out.
    Thanks.

There should be a schedule task which runs daily and check for the Termination Date for all these users, if its > 21 days then it must have been manually inserting this task in the user's AD resource profile

  • A 56 gb .dmg file in my deleted user folder

I have a G5 tower running os 10.3 with 150GB of space. I am running out of room on my had drive because I have a file named melindabeck.dmg (my name) in my deleted users file that is 56 GB.
    1. What is this file?
    2. Can I get rid of it without endangering my user folder (admin)?
    3. How do I delete it?
    Thanks, Melinda

Melinda.. it looks like you created a new user account and then deleted the old user account...if everything is ok with the user account you are using...you can delete the old account (drag it to the Trash) ......which is located at....
    HD/Users/Deleted (Folder)
Did you do perform similar procedure such as this....
    Accounts<Deleting User .... using System Preferences (p29)
    • You must be booted up in your Admin account before attempting this.

IMPORTANT: If the user's account is encrypted (FileVault is turned on), turn FileVault off for the user before you delete the account.
    • You can not delete your Admin Account using this method.
    1. Choose System Preferences from Apple Menu and click "Accounts"
    2. Select the user account you want to delete and click the minus button in the lower pane
    3. A window will pop up asking you if you're sure this is what you want to do. It also gives you a choice as to what should be done
    4. If you click "Delete Immediately", the user account will removed.
    5. If you click "OK", the account will be removed, and a disk image will be created of the contents of the deleted user account. In case you want to
    re-instate the user,The path is:..... HD/Users/Deleted (folder)
    6. Your last option is "Cancel" , if you change you mind.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then drag or copy — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Press return. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Logging info about user, when deleting user from IDM

    Hi,
I would like to be able create a report showing deleted users the last month.
The problem is that I also need to fetch the user fullname, and some other IDM attributes as additional columns.
This is not supported with a standard audit log report.
So I would guess that I have two options:
    1. Somehow log information while the user is deleted. For example, somewhere in the "Delete User" workflow.
But I can't find the values I'm looking for there. They are not available to me. (a user view for example).
And it also seems hard to pass those values from the "Deprovision Form" to the "Delete User" workflow.
So my question is here: How do I get access to a user view in the "Delete User" workflow, is that possible?
    2. I can get the values by looking directly in the audit log for each deleted user. There I can have a look at the ACCTATTRCHANGES to see what the users name was.
But if the AuditLog has been cleared, then that information might not be available.
    I'm stuck..
Anyone here that has an idea of how you can fetch deleted users fullname?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Henrik

    Hi,
One possible solution can be to add a handler in the delete user workflow.
For every user that is to be deleted, write the requird information in a file/database. In your report query the information from there and geneate it.
Note: You have to add condition to check if the users was properly deleted from IDM and resource (just to be sure) and then write/store the information in the File/table.
If you want to store the information in the auditlog only, there is a column called comments that you can use, for this also, some customizations is needed in the Delete User Flow.

  • CUP: Delete user certain time after request has been created

    Hi,
Is it possible to define in CUP a delete account workflow that once the request has been created user deletion waits some time (i.e 1 month) before user is finally deleted? We would need a workflow without any approver.
Delete User request creation >> 1 month >> User is deleted
    Thanks in advance. Best regards,
      Imanol

    Hi,
Automatically deleting user IDs after a specific # of days is not possible in CUP. However, while creating the stage, you can define the wait time and then trigger the escalation. You can make the escalation to the Security Manager who can immediately take up the proper action, i.e., deleting the ID or making it inactive.
Infact, this is the reason why it is recommended to have an alternative approver.
    Hope this addresses your question.

  • Deleting User/Groups in Info/Sharing&Permissions

Recently duplicated original start-up drive using CarbonCopyCloner. Hadn't noticed before but a "wheel" group showed up under Sharing & Permissions in the Get Info window with "Read only" permissions. Also have (unknown) user with "Read & Write" permissions. Only myself and guest shows in Accounts pref pane. Have repaired permissions in Disk Utility on all my drives. Obviously, I'd like only myself to have permissions on my Mac. Can I just delete the names in the Get Info window without any consequences? Is there a more appropriate way to make myself the only user on account?

OK, I think I have this figured out. My terminal skills aren't all that, but using man dscl I figured out how to manipulate this database to do what I want...
First used this to see what was in the database of usernames/groups:
    sudo dscl . list /groups
Found offending entries not wanted (username, _unknown, etc) and removed like so:
sudo dscl . delete /groups/(name to remove)
    Did same for user accounts:
    sudo dscl . list /users
    sudo dscl . delete /users/(names)
Seems to have worked to get rid of weird entries like _unknown and "nobody".. BUT Finder still includes this weird "(unknown)" with read permissions on every new file... What gives?
So what I see in the database for users right now is thus:

  • AC 5.3 - Info on deleted users

    Hi All,
is there any possibility to see information on deleted users in the deferent components of AC ?
    thanks
    Yudit

    Hi Yudit,
The user deletion in CUP is done through workflow.
So you can do the following to find deleted users
CUP -> My Work -> Search Requests ->
    Here you can choose
    Request Type=Delete Account
    Status = Closed
Now you can see all closed delete account requests.
    Regards,
    Sudip.

  • I still get a user listed upon startup, even when the user folder has been deleted.

I've deleted a user from the User Folder and I still have it showing up at Login ... have two other users listed ... but this deleted user still listed as a active account.  Anyone have a suggestion on a fix?

You need to remove the user from the Accounts Pane in System Preferences.
Unlock the Pane, select the user and click the "-" (minus) button at the bottom of the pane.

  • How do i recover deleted user

I have accidentally deleted my original user while trying to install a new user. I found the previous user file and dragged all the contents into a new user folder but that did not work. I took the imac to the Apple Store and the "genius" at the genius bar deleted that user before I could stop him. Now the files I found no longer exist, even in the disk image for the original user. None of my original settings work any more. I think the original user files must exist somewhere but it is not in the usual places.
    More detail:
I was trying to set up a second user on the imac (2010) and migrate the user's info from a Powerbook G4 into the new user. The Apple support page said that I had to restart the powerbook in Target Mode to do the migrate. I renamed the user on the Powerbook to match the user on the iMac, restarted in Target mode and did the migrate. The migrate overwrote the original user info on the iMac, wiping out and settings, email and contacts. Not only that, the Target mode apparently did away with any user info I was trying to migrate, so what I ended up with on both computers is basically the factory setting as if there were no users. I attempted to recover the previous user as described above, but the folders had red Xes in them and did not reset the user info. But the info was there in the folders under the original user name. Went to the "Genius" bar where they got the laptop to at least recover the emails, etc. The next thing he did was to go to Accounts and delete the previous (original) user. Then he went searching for the previous user, but there was nothing in the folders because I had dragged, not copied them into the user he deleted. He asked if I had backups and I thought I did on an external hard drive at home. Got home and the time machine file on the hard drive was corrupt and would not back up. The only CD backup I have is two years old, so it doesn't have any iphone info.
So now I have two computers that sort of work but doesn't recognize any of the users for setup and email purposes. I'm afraid to synch my iphone because it warns me that it doesn't recognize the user and will replace info on the iphone. And all of my emails for the last few years are gone.
I thought I was getting backed up by the Backup application but it doesn't work. The laptop was set to backup to Mobile Me which doesn't work any more and I can't recover anything for it from icloud. The imac was supposed to be backed up to icloud but backup doesn't recognize any files there. I really don't know where to go from here except back to the "geniuses" at the genius bar and ask for an advanced tech support person.
    Any suggestions?

Whew, if those files were secure deleted, they're cgone.
Your only slim hope is to quit using it completely to preent deleted file spaces being overwritten.
It may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Computer immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.

i've tried multiply times to update itunes 10.5 but it keeps saying that it can't find the file and i can't reinstall itunes because it will delete the 100 gigabites of info on it what can i do

I've had all kinds of trouble keeping my iTunes software current over the past year, but have found the easiest way to remedy the issue is to simply download the latest version of iTunes as though I am a first-time user and then just install it into the directory my current version of iTunes is using. Doing this has allowed me to update my software without losing any of my media/data. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!!

  • No "Deleted Users" folder

I used the Migration Assistant to transfer a user's settings and files from one laptop to another. The user's account had already been manually created on the new laptop, and contained some files I wanted to keep.
During the migration, I received a dialog advising that the user to be transferred already existed, and gave the option to save the existing user's files under the "Deleted Users" folder - perfect for my needs.
However after the transfer, I cannot find a Delete Users folder (or anything similar) anywhere on the disk, and cannot locate the files of the existing user account anywhere.
What has happened to the promised backup of the existing user's files??
(Before you criticize my actions too much, yes, I do have an external backup of sorts, but not totally up-to-date. And I launched the Migration Assistant with a view to exploring my options - if it had not suggested moving the existing account to a Deleted Users folders, I would have done something very similar myself maually!!)

Your profile says Leopard. If so, wrong forums. If not, update your info. As for Deleted Users, if created it exists at: "name of boot volume"/Users/Deleted Users/.

  • Deleted User forlder reappears with TextHarvester.dat Microsoft file

I deploy Win7 x64 Enterprise build, and before I run sysprep, I delete a folder from a deleted network login.  However, when the image is deployed on all the machines, that folder reappears.  That user should not exist on the machine.  When
I go to User management, that username does not appear.  When I delete that Username folder, Windows recreates it.
    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\InputPersonalizaion\TextHarvester\TextHarvester.dat
How can I prevent Windows 7 from creating that file and that folder structure?   Also, why is it being created, and where is that info stored?
    Thanks!

This one stung me as well, and took ages to locate the problem.
The issue is the Windows Search Service, which is actually recreating this folder on shutdown. To highlight this, delete the folders, then stop the search service and voila they come back again. I thought it might be a problem with the search index and under
Control Panel, I rebuilt the index and once again these files from the deleted user profiles re-appeared.
My solution was to uninstall the Windows Search feature, reboot and then reinstall it. Testing so far shows that the problem is not reoccuring.
Why did it happen? In my case, possible because the Windows 7 image we are building has the User profiles moved to D:\Users, and in the unattend.xml this is done after the Search Service is installed, so perhaps the fault lies there. By default the
Search Service is set to not index the AppData in the Users folder.
    Hope this helps others.
    This solution works great!
Uninstalling Windows Search and the re-installing it solves the problem. :)
