Deleted user still getting mail?!

Hi There
I once had a user on the server with the shortname "xyz". Since i deleted this user, my mailserver seems to be confused and is still looking for this user's account. My log is full of messages like these, two of them per minute (!!):

Thanks for any suggestions!

You may be able to get a bit more information by running the command "sudo fs_usage -f network | grep connect" on the server for a few minutes -- it'll print a line every time a program makes a network connection (the last thing on the line will be the program name), so look for something that makes a couple of connections a minute, just before the auth failures in the dovecot log. Mind you, there's a fair chance it'll be something like perl or python, which tells you it's a perl/python/etc script making the connection, but not which script...

  • Deleted mailbox, but it remains and still gets mail

I've tried to delete a mailbox, but the name remains listed and it still gets mail in it. I have shut down Mail and relaunched and the mailbox is stil there. Any suggestions?

OK, I just found a way to fix this using the Accounts tab under Preferences. Thanks.
My question has now changed to the following:
What is supposed to happen when I right-click on an obsolete mailbox and select 'Remove Mailbox'? Because as far as I can tell, nothing happens. So what is this option really for?

  • Yahoo Mail - Unable to delete and Cannot Get Mail errors

A few days ago my Yahoo mail started acting up.
I keep on getting "Unable to move message" errors when trying to delete mail. The proper folder is selected as the trash folder under settings. Sometimes message do delete however, but mostly they do not.
I am also getting periodic Cannot Get Mail errors, but mostly I am able to receive mail.
This leads me to believe that this might be a yahoo issue (I opened a support request with them also) I have deleted the account from my iPhone and recreated it several times, but the problem persist.
Anybody else having similar issues with Yahoo mail ?
    Thanks
PS I have Yahoo Mail Plus with POP access

I opened a ticket with Yahoo, a day later they came back and advised that they made some changes to my account, but it still does not work.
There is something strange about how Apple and Yahoo communicates, I think there is some exchange in the middle that is causing the problems. The reason for me saying this is the error I got periodically stating that "Cannot Get Mail, The user name or password for imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is incorrect". Why imap.APPLE.mail.yahoo.com ???
I did however setup a "Other" mail type account using the POP and SMTP settings from Yahoo and it works like a charm now, no more problems and I can now even use a different reply to e-mail address. Only issue might be that you no longer have the Yahoo side custom mail folders on the iPhone, but this is no big deal for me.
For the incoming server I used pop.mail.yahoo.com with my Yahoo username and password (username without @yahoo.com)
For outgoing, SMTP, Hostname I used smtp.mail.yahoo.com with my Yahoo username and password (username without @yahoo.com), SSL = ON, authentication = Password and server port 465
Under advanced settings for outgoing mail server, Use SSL = ON , authentication = Password and server port 995.
I am not claiming that I understand all of the above, but it works. Hopefully this may point you in the right direction.

  • Deleted device still gets polled in LMS 4.2.5

    Hello together,
I see in our firewall log that the LMS server is polling some devices which have been deleted a long time ago. I can't see these devices in the inventory or anywhere else in the Web-Gui.
Do I have to rebuild one of the databases, which would be the right one?
Or can I check a file in which all devices are listed which get polled periodically.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
can you check ,if you have any Alias device in LMS
Go  to Inventory > Device Administration > Device Aliases.
If yes delete them from the above location.
Also check the attached screen shot and search the device via both ip address / hostname which you think should not be in LMS.
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • Deleted user still indatabase?

    Hi!
Having some login problems with an account I deleted it in WGM and tried to recreate it afterwards. But WGM won't let me do it and says that an account with that name already exists. Did I miss something?

Thanks a lot! Worked like a charm .

  • I still get a user listed upon startup, even when the user folder has been deleted.

I've deleted a user from the User Folder and I still have it showing up at Login ... have two other users listed ... but this deleted user still listed as a active account.  Anyone have a suggestion on a fix?

You need to remove the user from the Accounts Pane in System Preferences.
Unlock the Pane, select the user and click the "-" (minus) button at the bottom of the pane.

  • HT201412 Can't get on FaceTime says wifi not connected but I can get mail, how?

Can't get FaceTime to work, my wifi says not connected but I can still get mail, how can this happen?

I was having the same problem. I've probably screwed things up royally by doing so, but I just went ahead and created another Apple ID with a different email address, and will inform anyone who I will be using FaceTime with to use the new one. I tried using the "multiple ID finder" thing but it only ever returned the ID I'm using right now; I can't verify the email address this ID is associated with for some reason.
    It's a clusterfark.

  • Problem in safe mode deleting users...

I am prepping a few Macs to sell on eBay and wanted to remove the user files and get them to do the startup song and dance when the new user turns it on. I used the following commands in Safe Mode:
    mount -uw /
    rm -rf /Users/*
    cd /var/db
    rm .AppleSetupDone
    rm .com.apple.iokit.graphics
    rm -rf dhcpclient
    rm -rf samba
    shutdown -h now
All this works fine, except it does not delete any users. So, I tried a few other commands, I used this one:
    dscl . delete /users/username
typing the exact user name, and I get this response:
    dscl[6] *** Uncaught DS Exception: <(null)> (eServerSendError)
I tried deleting all of them with:
    dscl . delete /users/*
and I get the same response:
    dscl[6] *** Uncaught DS Exception: <(null)> (eServerSendError)
    I tried using:
    sudo dscl . -delete /users
    and get this again:
    dscl[6] *** Uncaught DS Exception: <(null)> (eServerSendError)
    I tried using:
    niutil -read . /users/
When I do that and hit 'return' it drops a line and does..... nothing. It just sits there and won't respond to any commands, the prompt isn't there. I wait, and wait, and wait and it just sits there.
    So, I have two questions:
    1. How do I delete ALL users in Safe Mode (I don't want to start the computer and create a new user after I've made the computer redo the AppleSetup dance).
    2. Why in the HECK does the cursor just sit there, on a blank line, and do nothing after I issue the niutil command?
I suppose, if it isn't possible to do this in Safe Mode and it must be done in Terminal, then I could do this and then boot into Safe Mode and issue the other commands, if someone knows how to do this, but I'd prefer to do it all at once in Safe Mode (if possible).
    TIA
PS In case someone asks why I don't just wipe the drive and reinstall OS X and leave it, it is because on these I wanted to update everything using Software Update so that when it ships it's fully updated. I wanted to update it completely and then restore it to "factory" state so that when the new user turns it on it does the new user setup and has no other user accounts on it.

No offense, but perhaps you ddin't read my whole post. Both of the links you provided (which I've read before) do not allow one to UPDATE the software and then return it to a state that has the AppleSetup launching on boot. If I wanted to load OS X 10.4 without updating it to 10.4.11 then those solutions would work fine, but that isn't what I want to do. I want to update everything - Tiger and all the software - as far as it will go and THEN return the machine to factory state. I could go into why I want to do this, but I won't bore anyone. The point is, I do.
Can someone that understand Unix commands on the Mac help me? Thanks.

  • Get mail button

What does this button do? When i press it, nothing happens, but I am still getting mail? Is there a difference? I hope I'm not missing any mail.

FYI - this is the Mail, Contacts and Calendar discussions area for the iPhone.
You should have posted your question here instead.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=753
The Mail application's Get Mail button does exactly what it indicates - it checks the incoming mail server for all enabled accounts for new mail.
There is no difference between selecting this button and your automatic checking for new mail setting.
Mail > Preferences > Accounts under the Advanced tab for the account preferences > Include when automatically checking for new mail and Mail > Preferences > General > Check for new mail.
What type of account - POP or IMAP?
Have you checked the account via webmail access using a browser to confirm there are new messages available at the server which have not been received by the Mail application?

Deleting AD users vs Disabling.  What is the difference?  If an account is disabled, can it still be setup for mail forwarding to another user? If an account is deleted, what files get deleted?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Disable Users: Nobody can log in to the mailbox, but the data is safe and it can receive email. Once it is enabled, it is back to normal.
Delete Users: when the user is deleted all the services are removed and all data is erased. The user is deleted from our Active Directory. If you create a user with the same Name and Emial address again, no data or services are recovered.
If you disable a user, the Active Directory object remains untouched together with the mailbox data and properties, but you will not be able to access any mailbox data.
If you delete a user, the Active Directory object is removed together with all data and properties of the user.
    Hope it helps.
