Deleted videos from iPhone, but Camera Roll is still 3.1GB

I have an iPad and iPhone and I'm using iCloud for backup on both.  Error messages galore that I am maxed out of my 5GB free, so I removed all of the videos from my iPhone, what was most certainly the offending data source.  From my iPhone when I look at the Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage I have 2.2GB for the iPhone backup and 1.7GB for the iPad.  When I go to Info for the iPhone, I see that the Camera Roll is 3.1GB (it also says next backup size is 3.1GB, although it hasn't backed that up b/c it's out of space; last backup for the iPhone was 11/27.)   Everything else below Camera Roll is much smaller (Twitter 4.5MB, iBooks 3.5MB, etc.)
BUT...I currently have 153 photos and 2 videos (0:44secs & 0:15secs) on my iPhone.  When I've removed the videos, I've trashed them manually on the iPhone so why does it keep saying I need 3.1GB?   I used Image Capture to import the videos as needed b/c I hate the one-way aspect of iTunes controlling everything on my iPhone.  I do have a full backup of both devices on my desktop Mac.  To further fill in the blanks, it says I have 1.7GB on my iPad, but the iPad has only 53 photos and NO videos, yet it says the Camera Roll on that device is 1.1GB.
Help...thanks in advance!
Lee

Also, just to clarify, Photostream is only going for photos anyway, correct?  No videos.
Yes, photostream only syncs photos to iCloud.
BUT...I currently have 153 photos and 2 videos (0:44secs & 0:15secs) on my iPhone.  When I've removed the videos, I've trashed them manually on the iPhone so why does it keep saying I need 3.1GB?
The reason for this is probably because you only deleted 59 seconds worth of video which is not a lot. every 1GB (or gigabytes) is equal to 1,024MB (or megabytes).
3.1GB = 3174.4MB
What this means is your video files were so small in size, they did not remove enough data from your Camera Roll in order for it to make a difference.
1GB = 1,024MB / 10 = 102.4MB
every 10th of a gigbyte is 102.4MB so your video files were likely less than that size give or take which is why you do not see a reduction in the amount of storage you need.

  • Transferring photos and video from iPhone 5S camera roll to windows folder, some files corrupt. Why?

I back up all my photos and videos to my external hard drive every month or so in order to free up space in my phone.
Now some folders once are transferred in windows contain some videos with jpeg extension in the file name and some photos with .avi extension too, as seen on the picture below.. Also I try to move files around in the folder and they freeze the computer resulting in a windows desktop reset. Any clues on what am I doing wrong so I can protect all my files for good?

You can't transfer the photos and Videos into iTunes. You have to import them to your computer. It is a fairly easy process. This article explains it all for you.

There are 2 ways for you to recover deleted videos from iPhone:
Solution 1.Scan and extract iTunes backup to recover videos from iPhone 5/4S/4/3GS
Step 1: Select the device backup to scan
Step 2: Recover deleted iPhone videos
After the scan, the whole backup content are extracted and also displayed. You can check the video which is in .mpeg format in general, and click "Recover" on the top menu to store it on your computer with iPhone Data Recovery.
Solution 2.Directly scan and recover deleted videos from iPhone 4/3GS
Step 1:Connect your iPhone to the computer
Launch the recovery software on your computer, and connect your iPhone to the computer with a digital cable.
Step 2:Enter the DFU mode and scan iPhone
Enter the DFU mode with your iPhone:
    1. Hold your iPhone and click "Start" button.
    2. Pressing "Power" and "Home" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.
    3. After 10 seconds, release "Power" button, but keep holding "Home" for another 10 seconds.
When you're told that you've entered the DFU mode, release the "Home" button
Step 3: Preview and recover deleted videos from iPhone
When the scan over, all your data on your iPhone or lost from iPhone are found and listed in organized categories.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup. If your iPhone's backup was updated since the video was captured and the backup has not been updated again since it was deleted from the iPhone, you can try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup. Don't update the backup before doing so.

  • How do I remove all photos from iPhone 5 camera roll to Mac?

How do I remove all 4000 photos from iPhone 5 camera roll to Mac?

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. When there are photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll, it is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer.
With a Mac, you can use iPhoto for this if you use iPhoto for photo management on your Mac. If not, you can use the Image Capture application for the import. Both include an option to delete all photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete.

  • How to transfer a few selected pictures I need from iPhone 4 Camera Roll with four hundred pictures to PC Vista. Just selected pictures not all folder

How to transfer a few selected pictures from iPhone 4 Camera Roll with four hundred pictures to my PC Vista. Just selected pictures not all folder. Thanks

You do understand though, that if something happened to your phone - if you lost it, if it were stolen, if you dropped it and were unable to access it, if it got wet - all those pictures that you had not transferred to your computer would no longer be so "handy." Just saying, I have not only read that horror story from many users on this forum, but have seen it live from many users in my own life. Do yourself a favor and back them up sooner rather than later by transferring them all now. Trust me on this, you won't regret it.

  • HT4237 i want to send a video from iPhone but resolution is poor

please help me everytime i send a video message via my iphone the reciever gets a low quality pixelated video please help/

    Hello Mark,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when sending a video from your iPhone.
When sending a video using email, iMessage, or MMS on your iPhone, the quality of the video will be reduced so that the message can be transmitted.  If you need to share the video with a higher resolution, you can upload your video to YouTube, which will support the HD resolution:
When sharing your finished iMovie video via email, iMessage, or MMS (iPhone 4 or later), the Camera Roll scales down and compresses the video in order to improve upload performance. If you exported your movie from iMovie in HD resolution when sharing to YouTube, you can select whether to share a standard definition or HD version of the video.
Regardless of how you share your finished movie, the original full-resolution version remains in the Camera Roll, and you can transfer this version back to your computer when you connect your device. To do this, follow the guidelines in Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.

  • When I make a new album from my camera roll, I am unable to delete the from only the camera roll album. Is there any way to delete them?

When I make a new album from my camera roll, I am unable to delete the photos from only the camera roll album. Is there any way to delete them without deleting them from the new album?

The photos in your album are actually only saved in your camera roll. The creation of an album does not create copies of the photos. The Album simply contains pointers to the pictures in the camera roll.
If you want to create stand-alone albums move the pics to your computer, say iPhoto, create albums there and sync the pictures back to your iPhone. Note that the pictures synced back to the iPhone will not necessarily have the same resolution as the camera roll versions.

  • How can I retrieve deleted videos from iPhone 5?

I accidently delelted some videos I just took and was wondering is there a way to "undo" or retrieve the videos on the phone?  I didn't get the chance to do an backup after filming the videos so they won't be apart of the backup history.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Don't panic. Pryde2k. Even if you deleted all your important videos from your iPhone 5, there is still a way to recover the deleted videos back. Dr.Fone can help you. You can read this article to learn more:

How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
iCloud Photo Library can move the original high-resolution photos and videos to iCloud and
replace them with lightweight, device-optimized versions on your iOS device. This helps you
make the most of your device storage while giving you access to more photos than ever.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings >
Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You will need
an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
Yes I want to know the answer too.
If I subscribe to iCloud storage but my iPhone can just hold up to 16 gb.
Why do I have to do it ? to make my iPad see photos from my iPhone?
I did try to disable icloud photo while i had 1gb photos stored in my iPhone
and wipe them out, yes ,nothing left, 0 data. but when I turn on iCloud Photo -
again. everything come back as preview photos but when I look at each, my phone
will download them all anyway. so, how can you manage space on devices actually?
if I have 16 gb on my phone , So I can see all of my 1tb photos on iCloud ?
and have enough space on the phone to do other things right?

  • Can't delete video from iphone 5S

I have 2 videos with over 4 GB of space that I can't find or delete. I have no movies or TV shows on my iphone. I think it is a video my wife recorded on my iphone. How do I delete them? Thanks!

Apple does this annoying thing where your pictures and other media is saved in your camera roll and other albums that you can see when you go into Photos (not Camera) from the home screen. I've had some that you can't delete from the album by touching the phone itself. You have to connect the phone to iTunes and turn off those items or albums from being synced. Then with them deselected, go ahead and re-sync the phone. That was the only way I could get mine cleared off.

  • Deleted videos from iphoto but they are still showing up in the finder?

I deleted all of my videos from iPhoto and moved them to an external hard drive because I wanted to free up some space on my MacBook Air.  The files are no longer visible in the iPhoto application, but for some reason, when I look at the storage space on my computer, it is still showing that I have 8GB of movies on my computer.  If I search in the Finder, it is showing that a lot of these videos that I deleted from iPhoto are still in a "Masters" folder in iPhoto.  I am confused, though, because if I open iPhoto, the videos are not in there.  I want these video files to be deleted for good - can I just go in to the "Masters" folder in the Finder and delete them there?  I've read not to delete anything from iPhoto in the Finder, though. So, getting very frustrated because I'm not sure why these files aren't fully deleted off my computer. Any suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to delete photos from iPhone but not iPhoto?

iPhone 5S on iOS 8.1.2 with over 6,000 pictures, brand new Macbook Pro on 10.10.1 Yosemite. All my photos are synched to iPhoto, and I want to delete the photos from my iPhone to clear up storage. My main concern is not losing the photos in iPhoto the next time I plug my phone in. Half the things I researched say it'll delete them, other half says they won't. I just want to have a clear iPhone and be able to view my pictures on my Macbook. How do I go about this without wiping my Mac clean?

As I know, it won't delete the photos in iPhoto, but you can backup these photos on Mac to avoid any accident.
you can transfer Photos from iPhone to Mac with Image Capture
Connect your iPhone to Mac with USB cable > Run Image Capture on your Mac > Select your iPhone from the device list if it is not selected > Set the output folder for your iPhone photos > Click Import or Import all to transfer photos from iPhone to Mac.
BTW, you can also try to delete only one photos on iPhone first and see if it will  disappeare on iPhoto to know what to to next.
