Deleteing clips from browser

I attempted to delete a clip from the browser. I was told to click on the clip and hit shift D,but it didn't work. I then hit the delete key and the clip disappeared from the browser. Have I removed the clip from the scratch disk,or do I need to do something further to delete the scratch disk. Also, I went to the FCX folder to try to delete the clip, but I was unsucesful, but now I have a new tab in my browser that duplicates my original project and the timeline has 8 sequences instead of 4. The 4 new sequences are dups of the original 4. Hope I made this understandable. Thanks to all who reply.

Shift-D does not work in the current version of the application. It worked in earlier versions as, perhaps unintentional, hold over from FCP. The delete key simply removes the clip from the browser and does not affect the scratch disk at all. To delete media from the drive you have to go to the capture scratch folder and trash it. This will delete it for all clips that use that use that file in all projects. Not sure how you duplicated the project, but if you have two project tabs you have two open projects.

  • Can't Delete clips from Iphoto event

This is driving me crazy. I can't delete clips from the "iPhoto" event within imovie '08. Followed all the instruction, nothing. The 'move rejected clips to trash' in the menu is grayed out. Anybody have any solutions?? Thanks

Delete them in iPhoto. iMovie will not delete material "owned' by another application.

  • 'general error' when trying to get clip from browser to viewer

I'm trying to put together a short instructional video (a kind of 'quick intro' on what a particular website is all about).
Some clips in the video consist of screen captures (made with iShowU) while others are 'live' from a firewire camcorder.
There's no problem with the camcorder clips. All going according to plan there.
However, *when I try to get the screen grab clips from the browser to the viewer (to mark in/out points, etc), I get a 'general error' message followed in quick succession by an 'out of memory' message*. (I have 8GB ram so I'm sure memory's not the issue.)
I can drag the screen grab clips from the browser directly to a sequence in the timeline, but not to the viewer.
Neither quitting FCP nor logging out (and back in again) fixes the problem. (BTW, I'm working with a PAL setup on the camera and am capturing in PAL dimensions in iShowU, if this has any relevance here.)
I'm tearing my hair out... Maybe it's something very simple that I'm doing wrong? *Any ideas on how I might get the screen grab clips from the browser to the viewer?*
    TIA.
    Hugh

Sounds like iShowU may be writing a less-than-valid QuickTime file.
If you can successfully drag one of these items into the timeline, I'd drag it in and then File->Export->QuickTime Movie... checking the Make Movie Self-Contained box. If this works and you have a lot of clips you might try dragging them all into a timeline and then saving them as one big movie. Sounds like they're not that long so such an approach shouldn't get you into FCP performance problems.
Another approach would be to open each movie in QuickTime and do a Save As... with the "Save as self-contained movie" option.
Either way these will probably write a MOV file that FCP will be happy with.
    Good Luck!

  • Unable to drag any clips from browser to anywhere

I can no longer drag clips from my browser to viewer or time line. What gives? I did a search with no luck. This has got to be an easy one.

    Need more info.
You say you can no longer drag the clips. Does that mean you have been successfully doing it for quite a long time?
Trashing the preferences is the first thing to try when programs start misbehaving:-

  • Deleting clip from Timeline does not throw off sync

My editor just discovered when she deletes a clip from the Timeline, with locked audio tracks, the clips are not flagged as out of sync...the red out-of-ssync indicators do not appear.
I took the sequence in question and copy/pasted it into a new sequence. Interestingly there were a few out of sync clips with red indicators although the source sequence had no such red indicators. I then ripple deleted a clip from the head of the sequence and all of the red indicators disappeared from the Timeline.
If I ripple delete a clip further down the Timeline, only the red indicators after that point disappear.
    This is under FCP 6.04.
Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks for your help.

are the audio and video clips "unlinked?" not sure if that would make a difference, but worth a look see.
    Might try deleting preferences.

  • Can't Drag Clips From Browser! Have To Double-Click  To Load Into Viewer.

For some reason my DV PAL clips in the Browser can't be dragged.
I have to double-click them to load them into the Viewer from where I can drag them anywhere.
    What have I done . . . . . go on, I bet it's so simple I'll be kicking myself?
Incidentally I have swapped my silver keyboard for an old white one but FCP 6 is working fine.

    Well I'll be hornswoggled . . . . . it was a preference job!
Come to think of it, I was fiddling with them earlier, but only changed the number of levels of "Undo" from 10 to 30.

  • Disable Delete/Edit from Browse form?

    Hi,
How could i remove or disable Delete/Edit/New from Wizard created jsp Browse form?
    Thanks

You should be able to edit the DataTableComponent.jsp file and remove them from there.
You could also just remove the DataTable tag and build your own table. You should only have to use the RowsetIterate and Row tags to traverse the ds. Then use the showValue/renderValue to display the attributes.

  • Why can't we delete clips from previous projects when I start a new project?

We have tried eveything... but there is a red line above the clips and they will not delete or move to the trash or anything. please help.

    Thanks for the follow up.
Unfortunately, if you want to see the new project dialog at the start of each new Premiere Elements 11 or 12 project, you are going to have to open a new project and go to File Menu/New/Project each time to get the new project dialog. All this before you import your source media.
I have never seen what you describe
The very first time I used the software, I was presented with the settings box, probably to establish the defaults.
By setting box are you specifically referring to the new project dialog that you worked with in version 9.0/9.0.1?
This automatic setting of the Premiere Elements 11 and 12 project preset based on the first video drag to the Timeline is great in principle; however, it does have its shortcomings. When it is wrong, it does not give you the closest to what you should have. It gives you its default NTSC AVCHD Full 1080i30 or its PAL counterpart. In versions earlier than 11, the default project preset is NTSC DV Standard or its PAL counterpart.
My blog post on the Premiere Elements 11 (also applies to 12) project preset automatic set may be of interest.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
There is no workaround that I have found to give Premiere Elements 11 and 12 that earlier than 11 project preset handling.
Please let us know if you need clarification on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • Flim clips from Google don't work

I have just started getting into iMove and wanted to download some of the free
video's Google has on thier beta site. However, when I download them it seems that it only wants to use the Google Video Viewer and I am not sure how to get it into iMovie. On thier sites where I can get similar clips.

besides the fact you run into a copy right issue!!, a considerable workflow is…
    goto
    video.google, choose clip
copy the URL of clip from browser
    goto
    http://www.videodl.org/
    paste URL
you get the .flv on your hd…
    get iSquint (free)
drag'n drop the file into it…
    wait…
    you get a mp4…
all these web-videos have a poor resolution, meant to be playback on a computer… don't expect wonders in pic-quality...
    and, just to mention again:
read the terms of use at video.google …

  • In making a "highlights" movie, using clips from different imported iMovie events, can I delete the larger iMovie event file from the Events browser and still work w the smaller clips in the Projects browser w/o having the larger files still loaded?

I have sucessfully imported 150 Sony digital 8mm movies (each one hour in length) into iMovie as 150 iMovie events. I have since successfully converted them from their original 13 Gb (.dv) file to an exported smaller 1.3 Gb (.4mv "large file") movie that I am happy with, using the iMovie projects browser. So now I have 150 " .4mv" movies on my internal HD as well as about half of my original raw data " .dv " movies on my internal hard drive.
Due to their large size (over 2 Tb), I do not have all the larger raw data (.dv) files on my 2Tb internal drive, just about half of them. What I want to do now is to create a new project in the Projects browser for each of my kids, and reload, starting with Tape #1, each of these larger files and do a highlights movie for each of my kids, wherein I pick out smaller clips from each 1 hour .dv iMovie event and paste them into the appropriate kid's Highlights project in the Projects browser.
Here's my question: If I load the first 5 large files back onto my internal HD, and paste in various shorter clips into each of my kids' Highlights project, and then if I delete those first 5 large files (they are backed up on 2 other 3Tb external HDs), can I keep doing this (reloading the next 5 large .dv files to work with), and ultimately take each of my kid's Highlights project and export as a .4mv movie EVEN THOUGH the earlier large .dv files are no longer on my internal HD, OR does my iMac need to have all these larger files loaded on my internal HD for me to eventually export each of my kid's Highlights project to a .4mv movie?
I have a 2011 era 27" iMac desktop w 2Tb HD internal and 250 Gb flash drive, and Lion OSX and iMovie 11.

Thanks. I tested it out and you were correct. I loaded 2 .dv movies from my external HD back onto my internal HD, and got them re-imported into iMovie, took a few short clips from each of the 2 iMovie events and pasted them into a new project in the Project Browser. Then I deleted these 2  "source clips" from my internal HD, closed iMovie and then re-opened it and found that iMovie would NOT export the smaller clips for a "highlights" .4mv movie without the "source clips" being available.
I read your link on Quicktime. It talks about mostly trimming, which is what I did with each iMovie event before I took each one as a project to export as a smaller .4mv file. But if I use Quicktime (do I need QT Pro or basic), what advantage is it to me to use QT over iMovie (I must admit I am a novice at iMovie and have never used QT or QT Pro as a tool)? Will it then convert any edits I make to a .m4v movie or do I need iMovie to do that?
Does QT allow trimming multiple segments out of a movie during one edit session, or can you only do 1 at a time? By that I mean that, for example, when I use Sonys Picture Motion Browser for my .mts movies, you can only set one Start and one End point for each edit/trim you do: it does not allow you to set multiple Start Stop points like iMovie allows in its Event or Project browser. You can only do one "trim" at a time, save it and then reopen to do another trim. not very useful.

  • How do I stop background audio clips from playing while browsing sites?

Firefox is my default browser. I use Google chrome and Internet explorer sessions for background monitoring news site sessions at the same time. I have no problem with the other two browsers. While surfing with Firefox I get unwanted background audio clips that start and run by themselves. I cannot stop them. They run and then stop by their self. They are some sort of adware and I cannot find the source to remove them. I also get video clips sometimes that I can stop that run around the outside of the active window I am viewing. These is very annoying. I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it but the problem does not go away. I antivirus software, registry change protection software, and registry cleaning software. The problem is with the default browser.
How can I locate and remove the plugin, addin or service that starts this annoying activity. I have no special unwanted toolbars installed. There is nothing in the installed programs list in the control that shouldn't be there.

I had a similar problem to this. EVERYTIME i started firefox, it would play an audio clip from a flash game i played a while ago, it would last 5 minutes before finishing. i tried the starting in safe mode, but that didn't work for me, so after that i then tried RESETTING firefox, and that has worked for me.
On another side of startup problems, firefox would also open up a new tab on startup, usually 22find.com or do-search.com. i know these are caused by a virus and have since deleted it, but it had changed a preference file in firefox causing it to continue to open on startup.
Having since done the firefox reset, i haven't had either of these problems AT ALL! would recommend this as a possible fix for you friend before trying any lengthy troubleshooting process or downloading any extra anti-virus removal software.

  • I want to remove clips from the event browser. How?

How can I remove clips from the event browser in iMovie 11 when I have finished using them - without deleting or rejecting them?

I'm not clear why do you want to remove them if its not to save space by deleting them?

  • Cannot delete a video clip from iPad, the Edit button doesn't appear ?

With iMovie for iOS (iPad) I try to permanently delete a video clip from my iPad.
I follow the article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3186. But even if the video clip I want to delete is not used in a project, I simply do not find the Edit button in the upper-left corner above the Video browser as mentionned.
    This is a screenshot
the Ipad is running iOS 5.1.1 (9B206), the video are not stored in 'pellicule'
    Am I crazy ?
    Thank you for any help.

Did you shoot the video in iMovie?
Or did you shoot it via the camera app?
If it was shot in the camera app, then it needs to be deleted in the Photos app.
Can you see the video in the photos app?
You can permanently delete a video clip from your device as long as it’s not in the Camera Roll or the Photos app.

  • What's the trick?  Can't delete loops from Garageband loop browser.

Am I missing something? I've tried to delete 3rd party loops directly from the Garageband loop browser, but could not. It wouldn't work in Garageband 08, and it won't work in '09.
These loops were all added to the library by drag and drop into the loops browser.
Is there something I need to do with file permissions?

I think you can only delete loops from the browser that you created yourself with GB.
Just delete the loops in the Finder and re-index everything.

  • Cannot delete Lists from Reminders app after upgrading to iOS 7. The deal is that those lists don't show in iCloud account in the Web-Browser, so I cannot delete via Browser, when I press the button Edit in the List, there is no Delete button at thebottom

On my iPhone 5, upgraded to iOS 7, the lists in Reminders are impossible to delete.  When I press Edit button in the right corner of the app, the button Delete list is supposed to be at the bottom, but it's empty there, the deal is I could delete some of the lists, but most of them I can't. I tried delete iCloud account from iPhone, but they are still there, and still no Delete button. In the Browser I don't see those lists, so cannot delete them from the Browser as well.
