  • Can I copy the Recovery files to another D partition?

    Hi,
My disk came with C and D partitions, but I want to arrange my disk partitions differently from factory.
I want to shrink system (C) partition a bit, create a 15Gb partition, copy the recovery files to there (to keep the recovery files isolated), and rename that partition as the new D drive.
The only thing that matters for the recovery tool to work is to place the files on a D partition?
Has anyone done similar a thing?
    Will it work?

    Hey,
To be honest I dont think that HDD recovery will work if you copy the files on another partition.
Why you want to do this?
I use the factory default form C: and D: partition. On C: I have installed all my programs and on drive D: I have saved my private files like Picture, Music, Videos, Documents, etc.
I dont see a reason to create a separate partition for HDD recovery files because they are saved in a additional folder.

  • Restoring the recovery files cdrivebackupXX.swm

    Hi all,
when I bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad E520, i burned a backup on recovery disks, as was suggested. This week I had a problem with PC and it needs reinstall, so I try to did a factory reset. Everything was good until I found a problem with last recovery DVD. Now my last recovery DVD isn't working and recovery files aren't completed on my recovery partition.
I install a new Windows 7 from other source, but is there any possibility to gain recovery files again? From anywhere?
I have in FactoryRecovery dir files cdrivebackup2.swm and cdrivebackup10-23.swm.
Thanks a lot for any suggestion.

    Hello and welcome,
This might help - depending on what's wrong with that last DVD: copy it using another machine and try the copy.
If it's a marginal burn that's not readable on your E520 but is on another drive this could get you going.  If it's some other problem, then it won't help.

  • What are the recovery files in the trash

I like to keep the trach taken out and notice every now and then their has been something put in it that I did not move there.  It is a file called Recovery and has some sub folders in the main one and one of the documents seems to be witten in code.  Is this normal?  I delete the file when it appears and go about my business but it will eventuly show up again. Do I need to change something?

I can't say for sure. It's conceivable that an application might crash with unsaved work in a document, and you might be able to salvage that document, at least in part, from the recovered temporary file. That's why it's there. I've never known that to happen, but I don't use Office.

  • What is the best way to use recovery files

I am working in FM 11 and have crashed FM a few times. What is the best way to use the recovery files and save them as the normal file? Then should I filter an explorer window for "recovery" so FM won't keep asking me if I want to use older recovery files? Thanks for your help.

    > What is the best way to use the recovery files ...
Use a .recover file to extract only the new/changed content that would otherwise be lost if you were instead to open the .auto (if any), or .backup files.
    > ... and save them as the normal file?
Don't. If the document crashed because of an internal data structure problem, the .recover file (although actually a MIF) is apt to contain that problem.
Before doing anything, preserve the debris. Copy the .backup and .auto files in particular, because as soon as you open the main .fm file, it's going to overwrite that .backup, and then the .auto at the next auto-save interval. You can dispose of any zero-length files or files with temporary names (which result from the crash itself crashing).
    I typically:
preserve a snapshot of the debris
open the original file, and if it won't, the .backup
open the .recover, .auto or .backup (whichever seems the most useful candidate as a sourcing file)
copy in the changes from the .recover, .auto or .backup to the working copy
save the working copy as the original.fm, close the sourcing file
do a MIF wash on the new original.fm
clean up the debris in preparation for the next crash

  • How to use recovery files in recovery partition in hp dv6 notebook in windows 7

i am trying to recover my notebook to factory settings without using recovery disks in windows 7.
but using whenever i try to recver from the system recovery file in control panel, when the computer restarts it says that there is no bootable media or recovery disk.
while using recovery manager, it says system recovery is disabled try using recovery media creation but recovery media creation says that recovery media has already been created once and it cannot be created again.
whenever i open the recovery file in the partition hard drive it says, this partition is for recovery donot alter or delete this partition. it has covered about 10 gb space but whenver i open it the file is empty and hp logo appears with instructions that its is fixed for partition donot alter it.
can anyone tell what to do??

Having the hdd in Dynamic state breaks Recovery function. Converting bck to Basic should not delete your data...unless the data is on the extra partition you need to delete in order to get the hdd back to Basic.

  • How do I get the Recovery partition onto a DVD set from my solid state drive?

My Pavilion dv6 has only a solid state drive. I need to recover and reuse the 23  gb  currently partitioned for recovery. To do this I need to move the recovery files off the drive.  Can this be done?  Where do i find instructions on how to do it?
    Thanks,

Hello txi, Your best bet would be to use a hard drive image program and perform a complete hard drive image.
If you have Windows 7 on the SSD this would include the System partition, the C: partition and the D: Recovery partition.
The D: Recovery requires some data from the Master Boot Record (MBR) in order to be accessed.
Just trying to copy the data from the Recovery partition would not be successful if you wanted to use this data later.
By making a hard drive imgae of the entire hard drive, and saving this image on an external hard drive, or a large enough USB drive, you could then delete the D: partition and expand the C: partition to recover the D: partition capacity.
Then if you need to revert back as the system was when the hard drive image was created, the D: partition would be put back on the SSD.

  • CS6 opens with Auto Recovery files every launch.

I know where the recovery files are.  Finding and deleting them isn't the issue.
My understanding of Auto Recover is that when a working file is saved and closed, the corresponding Auto Recover psb should be trashed automatically.
Every evening I save and close all my work, quit Photoshop and shut down the Mac.  Every morning when I start Photoshop, at least one Auto Recovery file opens.  It's the last file(s) I was working on the previous evening.
I've toggled Auto Recover on/off, trashed the folder and had CS6 recreate it.  Nothing works.  Every morning, I am presented with a psb of the previous evening's work.
My scratch disk is a dedicated 100gb SSD.  I have triple verified that CS6 is not writing recovery files to a different location.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Is there any problem at/after quitting Photoshop?
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

You cannot open the recovery files manually. they are only good when ID restarts an opens them automatically.

  • Satellite A300 - I can't find the recovery disk creator

    Hi everybody!
Need some help with my Satellite A300. I lost the optical recovery disc I burned when the laptop was new. Now when I'm trying to burn a new recovery disc I can't find the Recovery Disc Creator - not on the desktop or in the Start meny. I still have the folder with all the recovery files left - a folder named HDDRecovery with size 4.5 GB. The problem is to find out how to burn the disc.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello
F8 will works just if you didnt change anything with first partition and if you still use factory settings.
"Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot be gone for no reason. Either you have removed it from the system or you have installed own Vista OS.
I don't want to speculate why you cannot use F8 anymore but fact is that for new Vista installation you need recovery DVD.
You can order one under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Missing recovery files

Hello I had Comodo Dragon firewall on my computer. Along with it is the tech outfit Geek's. I was on line the other day whena message poped up from geek about two major problems on my computer. They told me what it would cost and I said no. I went in to  my system to find a diagnostics for this thing. But nothing would work recovery or any thing  else. I ended up getting a message my system couldn't be found and that I should disconnect a driver. I screwed with this thing all afternoon finally ended up using a back up disk I made to get back in. I updated microsoft updates and got some of HP's drivers installed. But there is no recovery files on this thing and I can't find a way to make a new back up disk. Some of the HP drivers I was told my system didn't meet the requirements for them. So can any one help me give me some idea how if possible can I get the recovery files back and make a back up disk.  I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you very much. lee

    Hello @redrabbitt,
I have read your post on how you are not able to recover your computer's operating system, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since the recovery discs you created are not able to restore the operating system, I recommend following the steps in this document on Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive. This should help you acquire the necessary media to successfully recover the operating system.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • New hard drive and recovery files

    i have a hp pavilion dv6 notebook
i replaced my hard drive beacuse it is broken
but i made a copy of the recovery files in a flash drive
i made a new partition and copied the recovery files in it to make a factory restore but i can't

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
Copying the "recovery files" to a flash drive and then a new hard drive partition isn't the proper way of using the HP Recovery files. You needed to create your personal HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash media using the HP Recovery Manager when you first setup your computer. If you didn't create your personal HP Recovery Media, you will need to contact HP in your region / country via the HP Worldwide Support Portal to check on the availability of HP Recovery Discs for your computer.

    Regim,
If you set your View Zoom to 100%, the document will open with the cell last selected in view.
Alternately, you could reverse your table and always put your new entries at the top. To do this, you would select a cell in the previously entered row and type Option/Alt Up-Arrow. This gives you a blank row just above the selected row.

  • T410 - recovery files not found

    Hello all,
I'm trying to restore my T410 to factory state, but when I go through the steps (thinkvantage button at startup), i'm eventually told that it can't find the recovery files.  There is a system_drv partition on the drive - is that the recovery partition?
I think I created recovery media a long time ago, but they got lost during a house move.
Any ideas about what I might do?
    Thanks...

    Hi,
System_DRV partition includes ms recovery environment (WinRE) and Lenovo R&R components. Recovery files (image .wim archives) are stored on the Lenovo_Recovery partition (assigned as Q: ). Perhaps you perfomed some actions with partitions or installed yet another OS.
