Deleting a back-up sparsebundle while retaining other computer back ups on time capsule

I have a late 2009 2TB Time Capsule that has 3 computers backing up to it which are fine, however one of the machines I will no longer be backing up to the Time Capsule and want to delete the sparsebundle for that particular machine. However it weighs in at 900GB and i've tried with it directly connected via Ethernet on one of my other MacBooks, Wirelessly on my iMac but it sits for hours saying its immediately deleting but no luck.
I tried showing packages on the sparsebundle and remove the bands but that takes just as long regardless if i select 20 or 200 or 2000 of the bands at once to delete.
is there a good way to delete this sparsebundle and recover the 900gbs to the timecapsule so my other back ups do not get limited?
Thank you,

How to quickly remove the sparsebundle using Mountain Lion and Time Capsule
1 Go to Finder and under Shared locate your time Capsule
2 Click on Time Capsule and Finder will reveal all your sparesebundles
3 Select the one you do not want and right click on this - select Show Package Contents
4 Select the folder called bands - right click and select Move to Trash
5 Watch all the bands disappear....
6 Go back to step 2 - select your sparebundle, right click and select Move to Trash
All gone.  Now go back to Time Machine and start again...
Enjoy.

  • How do I access my other computer's files on TIME Capsule.

I have a Mac Book Pro (late 2011) and a Mac Air (2013) and I just backed them both up to Time Capsule.  BUT, when I go into Time Capsule I only see the files downloaded from that respective computer.  I've read the posts about looking in FINDER and and looking under the SHARED section but only see one Time Capsule.
Can someone please walk me through this process - Thank You.

How do I use the (not so intuitive) Time Machine display?
How do I view or restore selected items?

Security on a Time Capsule is a bit like installing a lock on a tent. It will keep the honest folks out, but probably not the others.

This Time Machine software worked satisfactory until Monday Nov, 10 2014 and I have backups until that time. For several years, the software deleted the oldest back up to save the latest one. This is acceptable to me as I have off site storage that is updated every 3 months. How do I get Time machine working again?

I have spent a couple of days trying to respond to Linc Davis. Finally I figured it out . The following is a copy of data from my console from the initiation of a time machine backup until it gets stuck trying to calculate the time remaining. There is no indication that anything starts saving.  I copied about 3 minutes of data. This is probably way too much data, but I do not know what is relevant.

  • Unable to delete back-ups of time capsule

Despite many attempts, I am unable to delete copies of time capsule updates. I place the old versions in the trash, hit delete, the items start adding up but they never go away. Any idea why or what I can do?

In general, you want to delete backups of an item or items by opening the Time Machine "Star Wars" interface.
Move to a date of your choice using the scale on the right
Navigate to the folder/item that you want using the Finder like window
Click the item you want to delete to highlight it
Click the "gear" icon at the top of the window
You can "Delete Backup" to delete the backup on that specific date, or
You can "Delete All Backups" to delete all backups of that file on all backup dates
If you don't really need all of the old backups of your computer it may be easier to simply erase the disk and start over with a master backup and move forward again. If you do this, it will erase everything on the disk including backups from other computers that you may have previously setup. Post back if you need info on how to do this.

  • Removing old Time Machine back ups from Time Capsule

I have just purchased a new iMac (2.7GHz Intel Core i5 running LION) that I am using to replace both my wife's old iMac (2GHz Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard) and my 17" MBP Intel Core Duo - we've both made the switch to iPads for lap browsing. I migrated my user accounts from both the MBP and old iMac to the new iMac and I want use TimeCapsule as my back up disk. However, I cannot back up my new machine because the older back ups that I no longer need take up most of the TCs disk space.
How can I remove the older, no longer needed backups from TimeCapsule to make room to run back ups of my new iMac? I've tried deleting the sparsebundle, but that did not seem to work.
If anyone can help, please be as detailed as possible in how to remove the back ups. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the tip.
You did forget to mention that it is necessary to click on the "MANUAL SETUP" button located at lower left part of the Airport Utility window to get to the Disk.
I went through the more generic/standard setup windows a couple of times because I was not seeing the disk and thought I was missing something. After I had an "ah-ha" moment and clicked the manual setup key, everything was there and erasing the disk was easy.
    Thanks again,

  • Do I need to resize the sparsebundle file after migrating to new larger AirPort Time Capsule?

Just upgraded my Airport Time Capsule from an old 1TB to a new 2TB version.
I have migrated the sparse.bundle file by using the ethernet method but now I want to know if I need to resize the file using Disk Utility or does it happen automatically? If it doesn't resize automatically then Apple should at least have some option to automate this process as it seems a natural request.
Over time people would want to continue using their same old back up and just allow the file to get bigger as it is moved onto a newer larger device and still have access to all the previous old backups all on one device/system.

It should continue to resize automatically or would if Yosemite worked properly.. since TM in Yosemite is lousy it might well need you to fix it.. It isn't hard.

  • How can i exclude my macbook backup on time capsule from other imac connected to same time capsule?

we have several mac connected to same time capsule, how can i exclude one macbook backup from all the others mac accessing same time capsule?
    thanks

Not exactly clear what you mean.. the TC will keep each Mac backup in its own sparsebundle.. it does this automagically.. The backups are not mixed.. all are kept separate.
Or is this a security question.. you don't want people looking at the contents of the backup?
You can increase the security of the TC.. but it is too late.. you should have done it when first installed. If you go to the setup you can change security (Secure Shared Disks) by selecting with Accounts.. the problem is you will lose access to all the existing backups. You really need to do a clean start.. create accounts for all the users and start again.
Also note security is not a big feature here.. anybody with physical access to the TC can press the reset for 1sec and get access. It is a home device not a business device.

  • HT201250 Do you need to use a new external hard drive or an erased one to back up once you upgrade to OSX Lion?  My time capsule fails ever since I upgraded the new program to my old mac.

I have not been able to back up in Time capsule since I upgraded my mac to MAC OSX Lion 10.7.5.
Do I need a new external drive or an erased drive to get it to work with the lion software?

Either new or an erased drive is fine, as long as it is formated Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
By the way: I find that Carbon Copy Cloner is a much simpler and efficient "clone"(backup) solution, especially if you're using an external drive.

  • Back To My Mac: Can access Mac, can't access Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule and also a Macbook Air behind an ATT modem/router. I have enabled Back To My Mac on both. I also clicked Enable File Sharing and set a password. From a friend's house, I can log in to MobileMe and see both the Mac and the Time Capsule in my Finder. Here's the problem: I can then connect to my Mac's disk and browse files, but I can't connect to the TC disk at all, it just says "Connection Failed". I don't know if the router supports uPNP or NAT-PMP, and I don't have the ability to set up port forwarding, so maybe I'm out of luck. I guess what confuses me is that I can get to my Mac, so I would assume the same protocols are in use to get to the Time Capsule. Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? Thanks for the help.

I can even use Airport Utility to configure the remote Time Capsule, but I can't seem to access the disk on it for a remote Time Machine backup. I've Googled and Binged and can't seem to find any reason why this wouldn't work. Anyone?

  • Backing up a share point (external hard drive connected to Time Capsule) using time machine.

I am currently using Mac OS X Lion, and just set up my time capsule with an external hard drive to store itunes, iPhoto libraries, etc.  Is it possible to use time machine to backup the external hard drive to the 2 TB internal hard drive in the time capsule?

You cannot backup network drives with Time Machine. It will work only on HFS+ formatted local drives.
Is it possible to use time machine to backup the external hard drive to the 2 TB internal hard drive in the time capsule?
No, Time Machine is specific to backup of a local machine, locally connected disks.
If you unplug the disk and plug it into a Mac.. and if it is HFS+ formatted then you can back it up.
Otherwise you need a software like Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) but as a warning, it will be very slow. Especially if you do this over wireless.

  • Backing up older macs earlier than v10.5.7 on Time Capsule?

Is it possible to back up an older mac earlier than Mac OS X v10.5.7 onto the time capsule?  And if so, how?

As in USB to USB and then the mac will recognise it as an external harddrive?
Nope.. USB cannot use a TC as external..TC is now and forevermore a network drive. If you want a USB drive go and buy one.. do it.. do it now.. they are cheap, fast and reliable.. much Cheaper, much Faster and much more Reliable than a TC.
Or can I use an ethernet cable?
Yes,, cable, now and always forevermore.. that was the point of the previous post. The only decent network connection is ethernet. Wireless is a trouble prone, difficult heap of voodoo gremlins. To this day it is many times slower and many times worse than ethernet.
