Deleting a big diaporama

A friend created by error a too big Diaporama (194) in iPhoto. When He tries to enter it, iPhoto crashes and doesn't respond anymore. He trashed the Diaporama and now is the "Empty trash feature" who crashes the app with de rainbow circle.
Someone has a clue how to delete he error without damaging the all photo library.
Already (alt+cmd) to repair the database.
Thanks
Henri

Restore from your back up that predates this event.
If that's not possible:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I don't want copies of outgoing attachments saved in "sent" mailbox. Tried Attachment extractor and it sort of worked and then deleted a big bunch of emails.

I have been using Thunderbird for a few months and after a while it started doing really weird things. I found out that it was 98% full according to the progress bar at the bottom.
I downloaded attachment extractor add-on and it worked ok and freed up space and NO percentage or progress bar was shown for a while until of course it filled up again after just a week or so.
All I want to do is stop Thunderbird from saving a copy of the outgoing attachments in the "sent" mail folder. It's totally unnecessary as I keep the original files in a folder and don't need another copy. I specially don't need copies filling up space and causing Thunderbird to make a big mess.
Is there a way to change settings to do this and if not PLEASE tell me why there is not.
It makes much more sense to me to have the option of NOT saving exact copis of every outgoing attachment.
It also saves the signature file, a separate copy for each outgoing email. This is silly and also absolutely unnecessary.

I see now that there is a check box near the attachment window that can be used to NOT save a copy of the attachment in the "sent" folder.
    Thanks.
Just one thing else I noticed that after checking the box ALL options for message text etc. are grayed out so it is best to check box after completing the message body.
Thanks again. It saves a lot of space. Now it's just the 1000's of junk mail every day eating up all the space. I should likely set it to automatically delete junk mail after a couple of days but I'm not sure if I accidentally mark good mail as junk sometimes so it's good to keep it around for a while just in case something has to be unmarked as junk. I don't know how I could get to the junk list if the junk mail is deleted.

  • Deleting photos-big fat oops and now what?

I deleted some photos from another application (adobe bridge) and now, when I am in iphoto and I double click on the thumbnail all I get is a grey window with a big exclamation point in the center. So, although I can see the photo in thumbnails I cannot do anything with it like dragging and dropping or copy and paste or right click/'open with.' Is there any way to retrieve these photos?

iPhoto keeps up to 3 versions of each photo: the tiny thumbnail, the full-sized original, and a modified version if you edit. We know you didn't delete the thumbnails, but they are really only suited for onscreen viewing and not useful for much else. Whether or not you can salvage some of your photos depends on what you deleted and if another large version exists.
Did you delete the files from the Originals folder in your iPhoto Library folder? If so, and the photos had been edited (including portrait-oriented photos rotated by a camera's auto rotate function), perhaps you can locate the edited versions inside the Modified folder. Conversely, if you deleted the files directly from the Modified folder, you could try to locate the Originals. In that case, you could also try right-clicking the thumbnails and doing a "Revert to Original".
If you find the files, drag them out of the iPhoto Library folder to your Desktop. Then use iPhoto to place the thumbnails in the iPhoto trash and empty. Once deleted from your library, you can import the files in again.
There is no way to turn those tiny thumbnails into useful files, so if you don't have a file in Originals or Modified then those photos are gone. In that case, drag the thumbnails to the iPhoto trash and empty it. With any luck, your database will survive the damage you caused by dealing with the files directly inside the iPhoto Library folder. Without that luck, you may have to rebuild your entire library from scratch.
As you have seen, Bridge and iPhoto are incompatible. For the future, you can set Photoshop (Elements) as your external editor in iPhoto's Preferences. Instead of using Bridge to browse inside your iPhoto Library folder, you use iPhoto itself. (Which is way, way more powerful than Bridge.) Select the photos using iPhoto, open them for editing in Photoshop, and when you Save (not Save As) the edited version will be automatically saved into your iPhoto Library. It's a workflow that took me awhile to get used to, but now seems natural. I still have a set of images that I don't want in iPhoto, and I use Bridge to browse those folders.

  • Itunes just deleted a big chunk of music from my ipod and will no longer let me create a playlist.  It also deleted my playlists.

My ipod stopped playing music today. It was just skipping everything, so I restarted it, as per Apple's instructions on their troubleshooting page.  Then, when I plugged it into Itunes, it started syncing to the computer, which was fine, until I realized after that I was missing loads of music, including but not limited to, my entire Beatles collection, which I do not own on CD anymore.  What happened, and how do I create playlists again?

I've since tried restoring from the Previous Itunes Library folder, but even files that date from times when I am 100% positive the missing music existed both on my laptop and my ipod, the songs are gone. Which would make sense, if itunes somehow managed to delete the actual files from my hard drive (how?!)... Does anyone know how or why this could have happened? I believe this happened after updating to the previous version of itunes (I upgraded to 11.1.3 after noticing the missing music, in hopes that it might undo the damage, but no dice).

  • File permissions -deletions ( Help Big Daddy Paycheck)

I've been looking through the manuals and have been trying to find a way to change the permissions on a file so that it can only be deleted from the server by the administrator.
I have a set of document templates that we use and they have been mysteriously disappearing. I have tried both the "Owner" permissions as the creator or as the administrator.
I have had been able to make sure the documents cannot be changed, but anyone can still delete them.
Is there something I can Do?
    g4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Server is Xserve G5 10.1.9

So you have separate "user" accounts as compared to "administrator" accounts, correct?
Standard 755 permissions should work if you have this separation... as it prohibits write by non-admin users, so long as they're not part of the admin group.
You could also set the sticky bit on the directory, which would prohibit people from deleting files they didn't create. Do a 'man chmod' to see more details on how to set the sticky bit.

  • I downloaded "Big-Button" (Win7) hate it. How do I delete?

This new "upgrade" seems to be a little buggy. I have no Icon on the "Add-on bar" to be able to delete the "big-Button" down load. It takes up too much desk space, I need to delete it. The only add-ons I can see is through the tools add-on manager button, this is not listed. (Firefox 22.0)

Also firefox on Windows is now following display scaling options which may render text (and images) larger on high resolution displays.
You can adjust your screen resolution.
To modify it do the following:
    * Type '''about:config''' into the Firefox address bar and tap on the Enter key.
    * If the warning '''This might void your warranty''' appears, click '''I'll be careful, I promise'''.
    * Search for '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx'''
    * Double-click on layout.css.devPixelsPerPx to modify its value. The default is -1.0 in Firefox 22 and above. Change it to '''1.0''' to make it work like in previous Firefox versions.
If necessary, further adjust the value in 0.1 or 0.05 steps. Use values between 1.0 and about 0.5 to reduce elements in size. Use values greater than 1.0 to increase size. For example, a value of 1.25 will increase font size to 125% to accommodate the default DPI setting in Windows 8. '''Double check the value that you enter.''' Setting a too small value will make everything disappear and a too large value will blow things up.
If web pages still need to be adjusted then you can look at the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level] or [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint] extension.
To adjust the font size for the user interface, you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ Theme Font & Size Changer] extension.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Best strategy for deleting data

For example: I should delete a lot of data from big databases. There are a lot of indexes and I know about the problem with the Bayer trees which must reorganized by the DMBS at every delete. If there a faster way to delete a big pile of data from the tables?

  • Trashcan not allowing me to delete a large file

I try to delete a big avi file I have on my MacBook pro and all i get is
"The operation cannot be completed because the item ".avi" is in use.
But it's not, no applications are opened that are using it, not even the preview in finder.
now my trashcan says that I cannot open it because items are being deleted.
what do I do? I have hardly any room left on my Macintosh HD
    thanks

OK, try this. Restart in single-user mode - hold down the command and S keys when the screen goes black. You'll see a text prompt. Type these lines, hitting the return key after each one. Pay careful attention to spaces. Replace YOURUSER by your short user name ie the name of your home folder, eg "jsmith").
    <pre>
    mount -uw /
    cd /Users/YOURUSER
    rm -rf .Trash
    reboot
    </pre>
If you see any messages at all after any of the lines, make a note of them, stop, and post back here - none of the lines should result in any message. When you restart, you'll have an empty trash folder.

  • Can't delete from a full phone

A huge irritant to me is when I add an app to my iTunes, and then my iPhone won't synchronize.    I want to delete it from my tiny phone, and leave it on my iPad (which is as large as Apple makes, but still way to small to hold my iTunes library).
I can't delete the new app because there isn't enough room on the iPhone to synchronize.   So I have to tell it to not synchronize any music, wait for it to synchronize, delete the new app(s), synchronize, then turn on synchronizing my selected playlists.
Has anybody found a work-around for this bug?

I have an iPad and an iPhone.   The iPhone is full.    I add an application to my iTunes, which automatically tries to add it to both devices.
The iPhone sync fails because there isn't enough space.    That new app doesn't show up on the iPhone because it never synced.    It does appear on the iPhone if I look at it on iTunes.   I try to delete it via iTunes, and it asks me if I really want to, I say yes.   Then it tries to delete it but fails to do the sync process because there isn't enough space.   That new app still appears to be on the iPhone if I look at it in iTunes.
The work around is to tell the iTunes to not synchronize music on the iPhone.   Now I can synchronize, deleting that big app.   When synchronization is done, I tell it to synchronize music.   There's enough space now, so it succeeds.

  • Can not delete backup  folder

I used AirportExtreme connected harddrive as timemachine backup drive at first, but then decided to use a separate internal drive as backup drive, so I try to move the file folder "Backups.backupdb" in the wifi connected hard drive to trash to delete it, but it keep saying I have some files in use and can not finish the deletion. Sometimes it said Safari is in use, some time "message" is in use, etc, I quit all programs but still of no use. any idea how I can delete this big backup folder?

you shouldn't have tried to do it using finder. the easiest is to connect the wifi drive directly to the computer and erase it using disk utility. that will get rid of anything trashed on that drive too.

  • Big Bang games sound disappeared....

have no idea how it happened, but all of sudden the sounds from the Big Bang games disappeared. System sound functioning normally, sound with video and itunes normal, and tried another game and it was fine. I deleted the Big Bang games, and reinstalled from the original install CD and same problem. did a compare on the Audio folders in both root/Library and user/Library and seem okay. this is not an issue to spend too much time on obviously, but was curious if anyone had any clues as to where I should look next to find a possible cause/solution.
    thanks!

I have the 17" iMac Intel CD with 1.5 GB RAM and the usual 128 MB Vid Card. Everything seems to be working just great on the machine. Except, the problem I have had with the BBBG is that in Chess and Checkers, the game will always freeze at some point. The menu items, sound and the like all continue to play on but I cannot drag and drop the pieces any longer and they no longer light up when pointed to so the game is, essentially, unplayable. Sometimes it happens after a few initial moves and other times well into the game. So far I have only noticed this on Chess and Checkers and not the other games. This happens on both 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 (It also happens on the included OEM version of BBBG as well as the vendor's online download). I never have any other window/app open during the game. I have contacted the vendor who claims never to have heard about this. I supplied additional info that they requested about 2 weeks ago and never heard back from them. I would say the vendor is very much the monkey in this case and am very unhappy with the game performance and their support.

  • Why can't I delete my emails?

Once I delete an email, it automatically reappears. How do I stop this?

I'm having this problem too -- I want to clear out my inbox of more than 20,000 messages but whenever I try to delete a big batch, they reappear.
I'm having this problem with a POP account and I just created an IMAP account to see if this might be the issue.

  • Transformation deleted rollback

    Dear all,
Unfortunately we deleted one big transformation in devmnt system, now we realized that we need it, so how do we recall  the deleted transformations.
It is saved under request number and its not yet released.
I will appreciate if anyone can give some inputs on this.
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi,
If this transformation has been transported to other systems earlier, then one way of doing this is to ask your basis team to import back the transport request which got it moved to other system. I have done this in past and this can solve your problem provided it had been transported earlier.
    Thanks,

  • Can I delete the swapfiles?

I've had slowdowns lately (80 GB HD, 1.25 GB RAM)...lots of beachballs (esp. with Safari...always esp. with Safari. Restarting Safari temporarily helps the situation).
My HD free space was down to about 3 GB. Deleted some big items I didn't need, and now have 4.8 GB free. However, when I added up the size of the root folders, I should have about 8 or 9 GB free. Used TinkerTool to show invisible files and found 3+ GB of swapfiles in private\var\vm (two 1 GB ones, a 512 MB, a 256 MB, etc. The latest is dated 4 July, which may be the last time I restarted my machine). I'd like to get rid of the swapfiles, but don't want to mess things up.
    thanks
    EB

"Swap files are easily misunderstood. They will disappear when no longer needed, but they go away in reverse order, i.e., newest first. There is no way to know what is in a given file, so it is unpredictable when a file will be deleted."
I am sorry, but that is just plain incorrect. Again, while this is how vm is SUPPOSED to work, there is a bug in its implementation in OSX, and in some installations, swap files will NOT disappear. EVER. Instead, new ones are continually created until all free disk space is consumed, the system thrashes, and eventually crashes. It does no good for you to insist it is otherwise, as empirical evidence indicates this indeed occurs. I have almost 1 Gig of physical memory. With 0 user processes running, I have been in situations with dozens of swap files totaling many gigabytes. In addition, any number of people have reported swap files that do NOT even get removed at boot time, and simply hang around taking up space after each reboot.
In fact, on my dual G4, I have NEVER observed a swap file "going away." That is why these utilities that delete the unused swap files exist.
Also, they are not necessarily removed in reverse order, even when operating as designed. They are removed as needed, which can occur in any order.
"Active memory is always allocated in RAM. So if you quit that application, the swap file will generally not disappear right away. The swap space is being used for something else."
However, after quitting ALL applications, the swap space should not be being used for anything, and yet I still often have 7, 8, or more swap files, taking up several gigabytes of disk space. I can let the machine sit overnight running nothing, and no swap files are deleted. I can go away for the week, and still they sit there. Which leads to:
"From the point of view of the file system the file doesn't change until it is deleted. The modification time will not change. It is meaningless for judging when the file was last used."
Except that after you delete all running applications, you can pretty much guess that swap files created first are doing NOTHING.
None of this addresses the central problem. After all, there is a reason why this question is still marked "unanswered" after all this time.
