Deleting a paused print job in HP 2540 deskjet

I want to delete or cancel a print job I paused using wireless HP 2540 Deskjet all-in-one. I have been unable to get rid of it. I have tried:
1. pressing the X on the top of the printer.
2. Searching HP utility for a link to delete command.
3. Going to HP help center (when click on DeskJet 2540 the link is empty)
4. Unplugging the printer and plugging back in in a few minutes
When I go back in to create a new print job, a dialogue box appears saying a current job is paused and would I like to add a new job to the queue. The problem here is the job I am attempting to delete is about 120 pages that I no longer need to print.
I have a 13 inch MacBook Air with Yosemite 10.10.2. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Richard

A reset of the printing system will remove the unwanted print job. Note that this action will also remove all printers from the Printers & Scanners preference pane, but not the supporting drivers. So you will just need to add the printers again.

  • Can't delete or resume print jobs - Epson C60 (shared) on Jaguar

Epson C60 running as a Shared printer on
    G3 iMac 700
    OS X10.2.x
Print job sent from AppleWorks on G4 iBook, 10.4.4, wireless connection.
Problem: If there's any interruption to a print job while running, it is not possible to resume the job where it was left off. Nor can the job be deleted, and a new one started, specifying only the unfinished part of the first job as the new job.
Current problem is an example of a recurring one.
Job sent to printer (eight pages, collated, 2 copies) without checking paper supply.
Job interrupted when printer ran out of paper.
Loaded paper, opened Print Center, chose job and started.
Printing restarted from page 1 of job.
Job interrupted after third page of second copy by printer running out of ink.
    Replaced ink cartridge.
Deleted job, which caused it to disappear from job list in Print Center.
Returned to iBook and sent new print (pages 4-8, 1 copy).
No activity, so returned to iMac and Print Center.
Still nothing in the job list for this printer.
    Clicked Start Jobs.
Action from printer! Started printing page 1.
I grabbed pages 1-3, waited for pp 4-8 to come out, then dropped the first three pages into the feed tray to take the overprint as the second copy started, then pulled the rest of the new paper and added the waste from the first round.
Printer finished the 'deleted' job, then the 'new' job spooled in and started.
New job finished, and printer stopped.
Later, printed a second job (same file, two pages, two copies, collated).
Paper jam after first two pages (which is not this printer's usual behaviour).
My wife, who was at the iMac, cleared the jam and asked what to do with the alert which offered only Delete job, Stop job, and Stop all jobs (default) choices.
Chose Delete job (usual choice on an interruption has been to Stop all).
Error light was still lit on printer, so she pressed it.
Printer started. Printed two pages, then ran through another two pages, leaving them blank.
    Suggestions?

    Barry

  • Officejet 6700 Premium - Pauses print job and won't resume

I recently bought this printer and set it up. It was working perfectly. I unplugged it for a few days when I went out of town. And now, after powering it back on, it won't print anything. It immediately pauses the print job and won't resume.
I checked to make sure it was still set up to my wireless and it says that it's connected. I'm printing from my MacBook.
I have no idea what the problem could be. Not really a techie so please describe solutions in "laymen's terms".
    Thanks!

    Hi DeniseT,
    Welcome to the HP forums!
You have an Officejet 6700 that is paused and won't allow you to resume on your Mac? This techie would be happy to help you get this working again
What I'd like you to try DeniseT is to reset your printing system and then re-add the printer. This Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system document from Apple will explain step by step how to reset the printing system. Once you've added the printer back you should be able to print without issue.
Hope to hear back from you soon with a success story

  • Can't un-pause printer

I have a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2450 printer that is my default printer.  Somehow it has been paused - though I don't know how that happened - and I can't un-pause it.  I have checked Help Center but everything it says to do I can't.
For example, in Manage print jobs, under Pause, resume or delete a print job, it says: "1) While your document is printing, click the printer’s icon in the Dock.  2) To resume a paused print job, select it, and then click the small Resume Job button on the right (marked with a curved arrow)."
The printer icon in the dock is a printerproxy, when I click it nothing opens, just the toolbar (next to the Apple in the top left corner) shows with:
    PrinterProxy  File  Edit  Window  Help
But there is nothing in any of the menu items that relates to printing.  I never see the print queue, never can select a print job to delete, pause, or resume.  Why can I not manage my print jobs?  Worse, I can't un-pause my printer, so I can't print anything.  What's the solution?

You may have some trouble as it doesn't seem to be a supported model/driver for OS 10.8.

  • UNABLE TO CANCEL PRINT JOB THAT KEEPS PRINTING SAME COPIES

How do you cancel print job on a HP Deskjet D1520 with Windows Vista?
    THANKS!

Since this printer does not have a physical "Cancel" button, the easiest way of stopping a document print is to clear the document from the Print Queue.
To remove a document from the print queue manually:
    1. Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:
    • Windows Vista: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and
    then click Printers.
    • Windows XP: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and
    then click Printers and Faxes.
    • Windows 2000: On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and
    then click Printers.
    2. Double-click the icon for your product to open the print queue.
    3. On the Printer menu, highlight the document, click Cancel or Purge Print Document,
and then click Yes to confirm.
Now, if the document has already started printing and you want to stop it before it finishes; then simply lift the top access door which will pause printing. Remove the document from the print queue now. If it is no longer in the print queue, then power off the printer. Wait about 30 seconds and power on the printer again. This should have stopped the document from printing.

  • Print jobs pause automatically.

    Hello
Trying to print threw my home network (wired with the correct address) on a Canon MP780. Each time I printed the job pauses. I click resume and it pauses again. I downloaded the latest driver from Canon and Gutenprint 5.0.2
    appreciate any help
    thanks

I have the same general issue, but with slightly different behavior. I print over a network to two different HP laserjets using IP printing. I find I can print just fine from most applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint) except Adobe applications. When I try to print from Illustrator or Acrobat, the job is sent to the printer and I can see it in the queue. But, as you describe, the printer immediately pauses. If I go into the queue and unpause the printer, then the job immediately stops (the printer doesn't pause, the job stops). If I restart the job, the printer immediately pauses again. It goes back and forth like this forever. This happens on one of the printers I typically use. On the other HP printer I commonly use, the job never pauses, but I get a message in the printer dialog that says: "unable to get printer status (Not Implemented)" On this printer the job is listed as printing, but it never goes anywhere. I have deleted this printer and re-added it, all to no avail.
Note that this happens regardless of whether I use CS3 or an old copy of CS1 that printed fine before I upgraded to Leopard.
I looked on Adobe's web site for a discussion of this issue and found none.

    Hi Freind,
I hope you are doing good.
    Q1l:-
Are these printers really physically attached to your Ultra-* parallel port (/dev/ecpp0)?
    and what device is "/dev/lp1"?
    Answer:-
"/dev/lp1" which is printer "T" and "/dev/ecpp0" which is printer "Alis" are configured at OS level via "printmgr" on the same machine.
This machine hostname is "tprinter" which is a print server. It is connected physically to "CIMA6120 LINE PRINTER".
[what I meant is: what physical port is this printer attached to on the Solaris machine? is this a Ultra 5/10/60 machine? I don't recall the /dev/ecpp port
existing on any modern sun hardware]
"failed to open printer port" can mean:
Answer2:-  It's is a 25 pin serial port cable connected to 25 pin parallel port of Optiplex GX100 machine.  I installed solaris 10 x86 to make print server. as our CIMA6120 its not a network printer, and our company want to print reports from oracle application to this printer.
Q:-you have attached your printer to the wrong port?
Answer: it is connected to the correct port.
[again . . how do you know this or test this?]
Answer2:- it is connected at the rare panel of the machine on a 25-hole connector (bidirectional).
Q:-you have attached your printer to the right port, but are using the wrong name?
Answer: I think we could have Alias, not necessarily give the same printer name.
[what i was getting at here is that you think the printer is attached to the parallel port, but actually the cable
is actually attached to the wrong port. For example the serial port on those older machines will fit but in that case, if you configure the printer with ecpp
it's not pointing to the correct port]
Answer2:-  I configured CIMA6120 with "/dev/lp1" port which was perfectly working, I print numerous pages with this configuration, Suddenly this error "moving-to-paused" occurred. as i said it is connected to the parallel port at the rare panel.  Initially, I attempted and tried to configure this printer with "/dev/ecpp0" port which was not successful.
Q:-you have a bad or wrong cable?
Answer:- I have checked the cable it is good.
[how did you do the checking?]
Answer2:- I tested the cable by connecting to other printer and it printed. so no problem with the cable.
In the olden days when local printers like this was the norm, we'd do test like catting a file to the port and see if the printer lights
up or responds. Something like: cat /etc/hosts > /dev/ecpp0 (or /dev/lp1, or whatever the device is). Then observe if the printer seems to
receives anything, blinks, prints the host file. You are copying the file directly to the port outside of lp or other mechanism.
Answer2:- I agree there was some conflict among the ports internally, or some process may be running at the background, that is why though it shows the request waiting in the queue it was moving to pause for some reason. when I check the error by command "lpstat -t" it sez "device busy" in /dev/lp1" file.
    Solution
    ============
After goggling some more I found a fix for this issue at http://fixunix.com/solaris/143011-unaccepted-printer.html
1, I tried to remove the printer from printmgr, cud not remove it.
2, try kill the entries that going to /dev/lp1 port to printer "T". could not do it
3, uncheck the default printer option via printmgr.
4, Add a new printer name "test" with /dev/ecpp0" and reproduce the issue "got the same error"
5, With the forum above it sez its a "bug" and the Bug ID: 6374608. here are the details of it:-
Synopsis: No /devices entry for line printer
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatab...bug_id=6374608
Workaround is to manually install the missing driver binding
    entry, using the command:
    update_drv -a -i '"lp"' ecpp
This workaround should create the missing /dev/lp* devices. And after
running it, you should find the following line in "prtconf -D" output:
lp, instance #0 (driver name: ecpp)
6, I unplug the serial cable from the printer and turnoff and replug the serial cable to the printer and turn on the printer, made sure printer is ""ONLINE".
7, I restart the Solaris machine and delete the newly created "Test" printer via printmgr.
7, I just gave the lp /etc/passwd and it printed.
Finally, I thank you for your time and suggest me your opinion on this solution please.
    Regards,
    MKY

  • Initial Print jobs 'communication error with device'. Pause and restart job

So, I have an odd variant of the Leopard print problem; on 3 separate systems.
When I print to an HP Photosmart C7180, which setup fine, which I can scan to fine, the print job throws an error :error communicating with device, switch on and off' and so forth. It does that from any app, and consistently. I am printing via bonjour, the printer is networked, but on a static IP.
To fix this EVERY-TIME I PAUSE printer, then start printer again. It immediately starts working, consistently until I sleep, log out, or don't print for a while.
This seems to be some timeout issue or such. I tried IP printing, but no difference.
Resetting the print system also did not help.
It's not catastrophic but sooo annoying. Any input appreciated!
    Thx,
    Dan

Hello SunnygirlQ. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help:
o Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
I assume that this printer works just fine when it is connected directly to your Mac ... correct? If so, has it worked when connected to the AX in the past ... or has it always had this problem? If it did work correctly before, did you do any updates, especially to the AX, recently?

  • Deleting all print jobs on a computer with network accounts

In a school environment, we are using a network server with individual student accounts. Is there a way to delete all print jobs for all users on a given computer? I can reset print system and it only clears the print jobs for that single user.

    Click: Open Print Queue
You should be able to delete print jobs from there.

  • Deleting Completed Print Jobs in Mac OS X 10.8 ?

How can the job list of completed print jobs be deleted ?
The job list fills up with lots of completed and canceled (a 10.7./10.8 bug) jobs and many jobs are added multiple times after a time in the list untill closed and reopened again.
This makes it nearly impossible to find a specific job.

  • Cannot delete print job

One of my print job is on permanent "hold." The problem is I cannot delete it (neither from the toolbar nor menu), nor can I resume it. I just stays permanently at the top of the print queue. Even after restarting the computer, restarting the printer, it stays there. How can I delete it? Is there some terminal command or such that allows me to delete print jobs?
The printer is a HP J6480.
It's not a major issue, but irritating. I have set the printer icon to "auto quit," but it never quits due to the held job.
