Deleting a post or thread

I noticed the delete button when opening a thread and can confirm that it works. I like the idea and actually used it once already. But will it also work if a post received a response? I hope it does not.

Ok, got it. It let's me delete my own subsequent posts, but there is no more delete option in the initial post, hence I cannot remove the thread after there was a response. It works correctly. Thanks.

Maybe search the thread for dot mac addresses.. It seems like Apple should know that dot mac is invalid and be able to remove those posts with a script.

  • Message before posting new thread

How about displaying a message before posting new threads in abap devlopment forums which tells the members to use search button before posting new threads.
I think this may improve the quality of forums to an extent.
Plz give ur comment on this.

I think most people who answer simple questions do so because they are genuinely trying to help and are perhaps not familiar with the type of user IDs who ask such questions.
But they should heed the warnings (in most cases they realize this themselves before a warning is required). I also know a numer of people who stop visiting SDN when they realize this, and that is a big pity.
Users who carry on and on and on without heeding the warnings are deleted as well. This has happened already and there are two more in the pipeline. But Guestification is a last resort and not a perfect one either. It is only really effective when points are the reason for the misuse.
I am sure that without a points system in its current form we would have less noise, but we would only eliminate the childish points gamers.
What I think we need to work on is further improving the reputation of the SDN forums for quality content.
Eg. when someone posts something which is incorrect or questionable, then question it (politely as possible / appropriate).
That way people who answer will realize that their accounts have a track record for questionable quality, and will think twice before posting some bla-bla-bla or not reading the question carefully => if the question is "What is reports and tables" then when thinking twice, they wont answer at all....
    Cheers,
    Julius
PS: I will start drafting a sticky thread for FAQs and memorable discussions, and then we can make a team effort of contributing to it and the mods can update it as appropriate.

  • Dear Hosts/Moderators: Can you please delete this post?

    Hi-
I recently realized that when I google my name, the post I wrote at the end of a thread always shows up as one of the first few results on Google.
*Could a Host or Moderator please delete this post so it would stop showing up on google?*
It is the last post on this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1993994&tstart=0
    I would be much obliged.

    You're Again Welcome Sasha!
And I also suggest, that you should select Hide for your Name in Your Settings.
And be sure to click on the Save tab at the bottom of that page.

  • How to delete MY posts?

I would like all my posts deleted and I will not sign in again after it is done.
    Thanks!

    Pervert,
You cannot delete your posts. Only a Host can accomplish that. And that may not happen without due cause.
If you just stop posting they will eventually be Archived.
What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 2 to 6 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
Threads in heavily trafficked Forums, may be archived more rapidly than those in areas, with less activity.
The Topics that you started, will show your Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
    Restrict by Date Range: All
    Restrict by Username: Your Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.

  • Cannot post new thread in Calendar forum

I have a question about Oracle Calendar, and I'm trying to post my question in the Calendar forum. But when I click the "Post New Thread" link, I get an error page that says "Error: you do not have permission to view the requested forum or category."
    What am I doing wrong?
I am signed in as a registered user, not a guest. I originally created this account a few years ago but have not used it in a long time until today.

How did you get to the forum? Are you trying to post to an archived forum? You may need to use a different forum, perhaps someone can tell which forum to ask such a question, or you can get a clue by searching here (as opposed to google searching). This is a huge site, sometimes it takes a bit of work to find the right place. For me, the google search generally works better, but that may not apply to what you are searching for.

  • MOD REQUEST: Editing or deleting a post i made

    Hi,
I would like edit or delete a post i made.
    Is this possible ?

If you could go to the actual post, and use the option to flag to a moderator, explaining the reason why you want the post deleted, they should be able to help.
Remember however, Google would have the original post in its cache, so it may persist on thi Internet for quite a while.

  • Delete a post

    Hi all
I know that this page has nothing to do with my question , but i need some of you to guide me please .
How can i delete a post i made in this forum .
    Thank you guys
    Bill David

    You can't.
Is there a good reason that it needs to be deleted, such as you posted some proprietary information?  If so, you can go to the options menu to the upper right of your message and pick Notify Moderator.  Give a good reason as to why it needs to be deleted.

we'll look into why this option disappeared.   it could be a problem with the 'guru' role.   we've noticed glitches like this in the software so i'm not surprised.

  • Deleting original post???

I want to delete all posts here under my name. I seem to not have a choice on the website to do this. Can someone please help?
    RJ

    Hi RJ --
There is no way to delete any (or all) of the posts one has made on this site. There's a 10-15 minute window after each post is made where, if no one has responded yet, you could go back, delete all the text and replace it with something like a "." But after that window has closed the posts are there to stay and cannot be deleted.

  • How do I delete a Poster image?

    Hi all,
I created a simple animation to be used with InDesign DPS. I added a poster image, but when viewing the animation in Adobe Content Viewer the poster image covers the animation unless I click on it, at which point it reveals the animation already "in progress".
Is there a way to delete the poster image once it has been set?
    Technical:
    Edge Animate v1.5
    Mac OS 10.8
    Adobe Content Viewer v25
    InDesign CS6, 8.0.1

The only way to delete a poster image once it has been created is to go into your project folder and physically delete it outside of Edge Animate.
Another thing to do is to open the actual poster png delete the content to leave it a blank transparent png. I often find I dont want the poster image visible first espaecially if you have a self playing animation.
    cheers

  • How to delete my posts on this forum

    Hi,
Can someone tell me how I can delete my posts and any reply's to them, as people googling the site name can see the posts and my issues. This including a client who is very upset that they can all be seen.
    Thanks, help needed urgently.

Sometimes you can delete your own posts by logging in to these forums and then going to your posts (assuming you remember them all!!) and then looking for something like this:
This icon is at the left corner of your post that you have posted.  Have a look at it and post back.
