Deleting all itunes backup files to remove backup encryption

Alright, I need to reset my encrypted backup password on itunes, i forgot the password. I have all the data on my phone still so i am not trying to restore, i just want to remove the encryption so i don't mind deleting the backup files on my computer. I am up to date on iTunes and am running windows 7 64-bit. Thank you in advance.

From the article mentioned below:
Warning: If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and then forget your password, you will not be able to restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable. If you forget the password, you can continue to back up and use the device, however you will not be able to restore the encrypted backup to any device without the password. You do not need to enter the password for your backup each time you back up or sync.
If you cannot remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore, choose set up as a new device.

  • Even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?

even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?... Help?!

Have you verified that the original files are missing from the Originals/Masters folder?  There are time when the library might appear empty due to a damaged database file but still has the files.  If you can open the library package via the Finder to see if the files are really missing or just can't be seen by iPhoto there are fixes you can try.
If the files are there make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder

My old computer crashed and deleted my iTunes media file with all my playlist. However, my iPod has the playlist I lost on the computer. How can I replace (reverse synch?) my iPod media information back onto my (now reinstalled) virgin iTunes media folder?

Yes it's possible to sync music back from a iPod back into iTunes that (I assume) wasn't purchased on the iTunes Store.
Apple allows iTunes Store purchases on devices to be reversed back into iTunes, just not cd rips and stuff like that. For that it's a one way trip to the device from iTunes.
I likely can't suggest such software here, but if you visit iLounge you can ask what is the latest software that works for your platform.
Really it only takes a mere few minutes to backup your iTunes Library and stick in a few cd/dvd's or a external drive. iTunes even has a menu command for it to make it oh so simple. Please use it and backup all your data.
Hard drives fail, computers burn up, thieves steal, stuff gets forgotten. Plan for something happening because it will.
    Good Luck

  • I deleted the "itunes Library" file...

(This question pertains to a Mac, not PC, latest version of iTunes)
So I was juggling around "iTunes Library" files, and I accidentally deleted the existing one but kept the new (empty) one. I found a support article about using the xml file in the same folder, and doing an "import playlist" command, so I tried that, but unfortunately it didn't do anything -- my itunes window is still blank (and this is the existing xml file, no changes have been made to it).
My iTunes library lives on an external HD, but even though my preferences still point to that path, iTunes isn't seeing it. I even tried to consolidate that iTunes folder to a new location, but it wouldn't work because iTunes currently isn't seeing the music folder, so there's no "point of origin" for the consolidation.
I know that PC users can do a Shift while they start iTunes, and designate the new file path... is there something similar for Mac that will magically restore my playlists and full library? I'm hoping there's a way to get everything back aside from the "Add to Library" command, because I'm not sure if that will allow me to play things I've purchased from the iTunes store. My iTunes preferences still point to the correct folder where I keep all of my music, but iTunes remains empty.
Lastly, in the "Previous Versions of iTunes" folder, the most recent library file is from 2 months ago, so that doesn't help me much, unless I'm able to do that, then do an "Add to library" command, hoping that iTunes will just add all of the music I've bought in the last 2 months?
I feel like there's an easy answer to this one, but I'm just not getting it... anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Kirby

After you deleted the iTunes lbrary file, then opened iTunes, the .XML file was rewritten y iTunes, erasing the info in it.
in the "Previous Versions of iTunes" folder, the most recent library file is from 2 months ago, so that doesn't help me much, unless I'm able to do that, then do an "Add to library" command, hoping that iTunes will just add all of the music I've bought in the last 2 months?
    Yes.
    Open iTunes.
File -> Library - Import playlist and select the latest iTunes library file in Previous iTunes libraries.
Then File -> add to library and select the iTunes music folder where your music is located.

  • Best way to transfer and delete all project related files?

I want to work on a project while at school and home.
    1. Is Media Manager the best way to transfer everything I need from one mac to another?
    2. Is there an automated way to delete all of my files from capture scratch, etc. on the school mac when I am done transferring everything to my disk? I would like to make sure no one else can access those files, though I do not want to delete anyone else's work.
    Thanks.

Go get yourself a big, fast portable firewire drive. Plug it into the school computer. (make sure it is properly formatted first!!!) Navigate to your project's capture scratch folder. Drag the folder to your hard drive. When it's done copying, open as many files as it takes to satisfy you that it has copied successfully.
Then drag any photos, music, narration etc files to the hard drive. Finally, copy your fcp project file to the hard drive.
When you're SURE you've got everything successfully, un mount the firewire drive. Then do all the above again, but this time drag the files on the school computer to the trash and empty the trash.
All this assumes no other twit captured into your folder, but hey what the heck, live and learn.

  • Windows C drive check deleted my iTunes library file!

My laptop (HP HDX 16 running Vista) was having trouble resuming from sleep mode and I had to do a forced shut down. Upon booting up, it started to check my C drive for errors, and for some reason, deleted my iTunes Library file (it literally said it was doing that). Now my iTunes is completely empty, and the last backed up library file is from months ago. Is there any way to get my iTunes back to the way it was earlier today?!

    Hi rpvee,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Depending on which library file was deleted from your computer, you may be able to rebuild the iTunes library.
See the "Re-creating the iTunes Library file" section of this article for the instructions:

  • How do I delete all of an old Mac's backups from my Time Capsule?

I have recently purchased a new Macbook Pro and used my Time Capsule to copy over the files from my iMac I wanted to keep (I didn't both with the apps, etc... just the documents, photos and music folders).
I'm going to format my old iMac clean and sell it on. I'd also like to start using my Time Capsule to backup the new MBP. But first I'd like to remove all the backup files from the TC rather than having 500 Gb of duplicated files remaining dormant as the original computer is gone (seeing as they are on the new MBP already). Given that I would have two separate computers, if I start getting low on space, then Time Machine wouldn't automatically delete the old backups of the old computer... so I just want to get rid of them.
There seems to be a number of different methods out there, each with its own warnings, etc... so I'm not sure what to do.
I don't mind reformating the TC to its original settings and starting from scratch if that's the best way, but not sure how to do that either.
    Thanks!

Erasing the Time Capsule is the fastest, easiest and best way to proceed if you are willing to start over with new backups and move forward.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the box that appears next to the Time Capsule
Click the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
The Quick Erase option will only take minute or two

  • HT5654 Can't update itunes. tried deleting all itunes programs as instructed, but it just won't download the .exe file

I have tried everything I know to be able to download itunes back onto my computer since the itunes update failed.
I have deleted all the programmes, and checked that they are deleted
I have been struggling for weeks.   And iTines seem to want to charge me £25 for support to help me sort it out- I'm not a happy customer!

    Hello Selfdeterminant,
Have you tried the steps as mentioned in this Apple Support kb for the iTunes Error after iTunes 11.1.4 Update : http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5376
Did you remove all the iTunes and its Components in the Given Order.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support ( If unable to remove you can ignore it )
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
If you are unable to download iTunes Setup file using the Default browser then have you tried downloading iTunes with a different Web Browser, if not then try that. ( Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome)
Save the iTunes Installer file in the Location where you can easily find it
After removing iTunes and its components Restart your Computer once and then Right click the iTunes Setup.exe file and run the Program as Administrator
If you are using the 64 Bit version of Windows on your computer then it is Good to change the Install Location from " C:\Program Files(x86)\iTunes " To " C:\Program Files\iTunes " while installing iTunes when it asks for the Location.

  • Will uninstalling iTunes delete all my song files?

No. Your song files aren't stored in the iTunes application itself, and none of them will be deleted if iTunes is uninstalled.

  • How to delete backup files from old backup drive?

    Hi,
I recently changed the backup drive used by Time Machine, from /Volumes/vast4 to /Volumes/vast2 (for example). Time machine now happily backs up to vast2 and shows available backups going back to the date of the change from one drive to the other. I no longer need the old backups on /Volumes/vast4, and I do need the 2GB of space they occupy. These old backups are not visible in Time Machine - it sees only backups on the new backup volume. Completely manual deletion of /Volumes/vast4/Backups.backupdb, with rm -r in a terminal, gives "Permission denied" even when I have admin privleges. Is there a way to do this deletion from within Time Machine, or at the command line? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

First try to use Disk Utility to repair that disk permissions. Then you can also get info on that folder and take a look at what sharing and permissions are set there. If you don't see your name there (your user name, not the admin) then add it by clicking on the plus sign. Set the permissions to Read & Write. Now try to delete the folder.

  • I've unknowingly deleted my iTunes Library file, and now I'm stuck!

I was in the process of moving my songs and videos to an extrenal hard drive, and it had worked successfully--the files were on the new hard drive and iTunes recognized them after the move. And I even knew that I wasn't supposed to deleted the ITL file, but somehow managed to do so anyway. I am very stupid and deserve some (mild) derision.
I realize that by deleting my ITL file I will not get back my play counts, ratings, and play lists, and tho angered, I can live with that. My problem now is that I can't get iTunes to recognize the library on the external drive AT ALL. I get the blank library screen, even tho iTunes knows where it is (based on the "Advanced" menu in iTunes Preferences).
    1) How do I get iTunes to display the contents of the relocated library on the external drive?
    2) Is there an outside chance that all of the play counts, ratings and playlists could be resurrected by synching with my iPod?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

even tho iTunes knows where it is
No, iTunes doesn't know where your library is.
You're not the only one who is confused by that.
By setting the 'iTunes Music' folder location, you set the location where iTunes has to store the next imports.
And you told iTunes where to put the songs after you choose 'Add to Library...' (when you have checked 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library').
The location of your songs is stored in the 'iTunes Library' file, which you, unfortunately, trashed.
Just drag and drop the folder with all your music on the Library icon in the Source pane or select 'Add to Library...' and navigate to the folder containing your music.
I can't tell you how much information is restored by syncing your iPod.
I have no experience with it.
If it was set to 'automatically update', it could be wiped.
Several 3rd party applications can transfer songs, including playlists, ratings and play counts to the computer.
Try Senuti or iPodRip (find the latest versions on versiontracker.com).
    Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto deleted all my RAW files when transferring??

All my RAW files, 30 GB, from my summre holiday, just disappeared. Are there any way to recover them?? This was what happened:
    1) I was in Sweden on holiday, brought my Macbook and left my iMac at home
    2) I took a lot of picutres, and transferred them over to my Macbook after every day/photo ocassion
    3) I got back home with 30 GB of photos on my Macbook, to transfer to my iMac as to edit them there, with better speed and bigger screen
    4) I transferred all the pictures by copy them from iPhoto and paste them into a USB stick, then insert them into Aperture
    5) When I now start to edit in Aperture, I notice that all the photos are JPEG. Before, in iPhoto, one RAW and on JPEG would be displayed, but after copied into Aperture, they are both JPEG. They will be named for instance "IMG_3241" and "IMG_3241 2", but both files are JPEG!
    6) I already deleted the original files from my Macbook, so all that remains are double sets of JPEGs
How the **** can it be this way? I really copied RAW and JPEG into the USB stick, but then they come out as only JPEG, and a double set of JPEG as well.
Anyone got idea on how to recover those RAWs? Maybe this thread can also serve as warning for people not repeating the same mistake.
Now all the holiday pics are useless. Thanks Apple!

    4) I transferred all the pictures by copy them from iPhoto and paste them into a USB stick, then insert them into Aperture
How exactly did you do the transfer? If you copy and paste from iPhoto, you will only copy the preview images (jpeg files), even if the original images are raw. The same will happen, if you drag from iPhoto. So your USB stick probably only contained jpegs. To export your original raw files, you need to use the file menu:
File > Export > (Kind: Original)
The best way to import from iPhoto to Aperture would be to import the iPhoto library into the Aperture library. This way you will transfer all your edits.
Do you have a backup of your iPhoto Library?
If you did not work with your MacBook recently after deleting the iPhoto Library, you might try to use recovery software, like Disk Drill, to recover your original raw files.

  • Should I delete all my .MTS files? Help with workflow desperately needed

I use a Sony NEX 6 to film a lot of personal projects. My workflow has so far been
Film Import to lightroom Export as H.264 to hardrive Import to iMovie
But now I am going to start using final cut pro x. Apparently Final Cut X is unable to import .MTS files so again, workflow at the moment is
Film Import to lightroom Export as H.264 Import to Final Cut Pro X and convert to ProRes
My hardrive has quickly filled up and I've realised that I stupidly have my footage saved in 3 different locations. Lightrooms catalogue (.MTS), the file on my hardrive that I export the footage from lightroom to (export as H.264 but file type says it's mp4?) and Final Cut Pro's catalogue (ProRes).
I want a system where my footage is saved in one place on my laptops hardrive, then I will back my computer up with an external hardrive.
    How does this workflow sound?
Film Import to lightroom Export as H.264 Import to Final Cut Pro X Delete footage from lightroom Delete exported file on computer Backup laptop on external hardrive
Can anyone suggest a better workflow?
Will I come across any problems in the future by deleting everything except the ProRes files?
Is lightroom a good enough program to be exporting my footage from or should I use a dedicated converter?

Thank you for your help, yes I will be backing up elsewhere. I'm a massive noob at all this and after an afternoon of searching I think I've got my head around it.  Best option for future footage
Import AVCHD directly from camera into Final Cut Pro. Convert it to ProRes if I have the space or if I'm not happy with the speed of working with native footage.
For all the footage that I have in lightroom but no longer have on a memory card my plan is to
Rewrap the files (I'm using a trial of clipwrap which changes the .MTS to .MOV).
Import the .Mov files into FCP, transfer file into FCP catalogue
Delete the movies from lightroom and the lightroom catalogue

  • Deleted all iTunes music, now can't download past purchases.  Help!

I've somehow deleted all my iTunes music.  All the file names are still in the library but every time I select one I get the "can't find original file" message and now it won't let me download my past purchases.  How do I fix this?

Do you still have them in your computer's recycle bin/trashcan that you can restore them from ?
If not then what you can redownload will show under the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage. If music shows there (it won't in all countries) but doesn't have the cloud symbol against then try deleting the tracks so that they are no longer listed in the Music part of your library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message) and they should then get the cloud symbol in Purchased. Or you can tick the 'shows iTunes in the Cloud purchases' tick box on the Store tab in Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences if using a Mac) and they should then show with the cloud icon in the Music part of your library so that you can redownload them from there (again you will need to delete the missing tracks for them to potentially show for redownloading).
If you've changed countries since downloading them then you won't be able to redownload them, nor if the rights-holder has removed them from the store.
