Deleting AppleID, still authorized to play music purchased on iTunes?

I just got a new 13-inch Macbook yesterday and love it, but I'm having a few problems with transitioning my iTunes stuff from the old PC to my new Mac.
I made a new AppleID while registering my new Mac, not realizing that this ID could then also be used for purchases made on iTunes. SO... now I have two AppleID's (the old one that I used exclusively on the old PC and iTunes, and the new one I used to register the Macbook). I went through the rather painstaking and tedious process of switching my iPod from the Windows format to the Macintosh format and rebuilding my music library, but was then stumped when it came to the iTunes accounts.
Because I set up my Macbook under my new AppleID, I want to consolidate and use this ID for iTunes also. Basically I want to somehow get rid of the old one completely and only use the new one.
Here's my question: *is it possible to delete my old AppleID, and if I do, will I lose the music I purchased on iTunes using the old ID? By deleting this ID, will I still be "authorized" to play these previously purchased songs on iTunes and my iPod?*

Okay, but do you know if it's possible to use both accounts to make purchases for my iTunes library? Or should I just stick with the old one and not bother setting up an iTunes account for the new AppleID?

  • "One machine is authorized to play music purchased with this account"

    Hey Guys,
I just made my Apple ID my iTunes account, and I just reviewed the account info. For some reason it says: "One machine is authorized to play music purchased with this account"
I thought up to five computers are authorized to play music downloaded from iTunes?
Did I do something wrong, is this normal?

Up to 5 can be authorized but you have only authorized 1 machine.
If you have another machine you want to authorize, fire up iTunes on it and authorize it. You don't need to authorize it unless you have iTunes purchases on it.

  • Itunes 5 will not play music purchased from itunes music sto

Just transferred myself from my flat panel imac to a new powerbook & Tiger - updated to 10.4.2. In itunes, all seemed to be working fine till I noticed that music I purchased in the Apple itunes music store would not play! I get a dialogue box saying "This computer is not authorized to play "xxxx". and asks me if I want to authorize it. I do so using my AOL screenname and password and then I am told "Machine authorization was successful. You have authorized this for 1 computer. You have a maximum of 5". I click OK but nothing happens. If I try to play the just-authorized song, I get the same screen ansking me to go thru the authorization process again - to no avail. So strange that this just happens with the music sitting right there in the "Purchased" folder. itunes 5 rejecting its own children. What to do?

    Mike, Hi
Thanks for yoursuggestions. I did see that article, tried correcting the permissions, looked at a few of the other things, but this doesn't make sense. This would only be the second computer that had these purchased songs on them. SO the 5 computer limit should have nothing to do with it.
The weird thing is how the computer tells me that it's not authorized to play the purchased songs and gives me the opportunity to put in either an AOL code or an Apple ID code to authorize this computer to play the song. I do it. I get a message that, congratulations, the computer has been successfully authorized to play the song. But then it simply does not play and when you try to play it it just recycles right back to the original message saying that the computer is not authorized.

  • Siri won't stop playing music purchased from iTunes

In settings -> iTunes & App Store, I have all options set to off. In settings -> Music, "show all music" is off. So nothing I've purchased is displayed in the music app. In addition, I don't have any music synched from my Mac. The Music app is completely devoid of music. The background in the Music app is brown and there's a message saying there are no contents.
When I say to Siri, "Play some music," the reply from Siri is, "Playing all music, shuffled" and music I have purchased from iTunes is played. How is Siri accessing that music when I have all settings for iCloud, iTunes, and the Music app set to not display or download anything purchased from iTunes?

i think i'm having the same problem!
i just bought several songs from itunes and tried putting them on my recently updated ipod. except a message popped up on my pc saying i wasnt authorized to play those songs. I JUST BOUGHT THEM! i sure as **** better be able to put them on there....what do i dooooooo?????

  • Help - Cannot play music purchased from iTunes store

    HI,
Hoping someone can help me. I cannot play any music I have purchased from the iTunes store on my Macbook Pro or iMac at home however I can play the tracks on my iMac at work. This occurred after I reinstalled Leopard on my main iMac at home. Here are the steps I have taken so far to try and resolve:
    1 - Deauthorized all computers
    2 - Reauthorized all computers
I recently copied the music library from my home iMac to the work iMac and laptop they are all the same files now, not different versions. Essentially I'm playing the same file on each machine and all machines are authorized.
If I select a purchased song at home or on my MacBook Pro, a window opens saying I am not authorized, blah blah blah. I input my details which I know are correct. The message tells me the authorization was successful but if I click on the song, the window opens again telling me I'm not authorized - ARRRGHHH!!
BUT the weird thing is, the files all play on my work iMac. This is the only device that hasn't changed recently - the home Mac is a new OS restore and the MacBook Pro is about 2 months old, but if I've authorized them I don't understand why they won't play.
Trying to contact iTunes support it impossible so I thought I'd see if anyone else has suffered a similar experience?

I have the SAME problem and it's driving me INSANE!! I contacted an iTunes person and she's trying to help me but it didn't really help much... The stupid authorization prompt won't stopp popping up and I'm about to throw my computer out the window... It will sync and everything, but before it's done it will say some of my songs weren't copied to my iPhone because I'm not authorized, even though I AM. It's highly depressing... I really want to fix this problem. I thought it was just my computer because if just recovered from a major virus that we fixed, but what you explained is Identical to my problem. If you find a solution, please tell me! Thank you very much.

  • I can't play music purchased from iTunes on other devices

I purchased some songs via iTunes store today. I then copied them to my daughter's music player (a Mattel product) only, but they won't play. They show up on the device's folder when connected to my computer, but they don't show up or play on the device.
I know they can only be transferred to three devices, but this is the first device for these songs
Does iTunes block their songs from being played on non-Apple products?
The Mattel Product is the Kids MP3 Boombox, Model # 1636110

Not for recent purchases, but the songs may need to be converted to MP3 to work on non-Apple devices.

  • New Mac Not Authorized To Play Music From iTunes Store

My new Mac is not authorized to play music purchased from the iTunes store. This was my error since I was a bit over exuberant and forgot to deauthorize my old computer before transferring the iTunes library using the setup assistant.
I do not plan to keep my old computer and will delete the music. In order to retain all my old settings (e.g. copies still available), am I now able to repeat the transfer process using the migration assistant?
I would like to simply deauthorize the old computer and then transfer the iTunes files a second time.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Rod

Just go to 'Store' in the menu bar in iTunes and select 'Authorize' to authorize your new Mac with your iTunes account.
If you have authorized 5 computers (the maximum), you can reset them all once a year from the account management section of iTunes Music Store. Access this by signing in and clicking the button labelled with your Apple ID in the top right of the iTunes Store window.
You can transfer your entire iTunes library (ratings, playlists, date added, last played, playcount etc.) by just copying the entire iTunes folder (containing iTunes Library, iTunes Music and iTunes Music Library.xml) from your old Music folder to your new one.
Make sure you back up all of your purchased music, it cannot be downloaded again!
Hope that is helpful in some way!
    Tom.

  • Apple TV Not Authorized to Play Music

This one is driving me crazy. My computer is authorized to play music from 2 iTunes accounts. The Apple TV is on the network and I share the library so that I can stream music from the computer to the Apple TV. But it still won't play Protected ACC files. None of them. I have de-authorized and authorized all accounts. Not having any success.
    Any ideas???

Ditto, and my understanding is that a synced Apple TV (which mine is) doesn't count towards the 5 authorized machines, it stands in as the computer with which it is synced. But I cannot play any protected AAC podcasts or audiobooks.

  • Not authorized to play music?

For about a year now, I've had trouble playing music. I got a new computer last year and I think this is when the problem started, but I'm pretty sure it's on Apple's side, not mine.
I'll try to play a certain song, and iTunes tells me I can't play that song because my computer isn't authorized to play music from MY account.
My computer is authorized to play the music on my account, I've even tried deauthorizing and then re-authorizing but it doesn't help. Downloading the songs again *might* work but I have over 1200 songs, and probably about 25% of them don't work anymore. Some I've even bought fairly recently, others I've had on my account for years. The only songs I don't have a problem with are those that were added from a CD.
I can't even charge my iPod through my computer, because every time I hook it up, it disables the songs on  my iPod also...
iTunes is updated fully, excluding the latest update (get tired of downloading updates every other week, so I haven't updated yet).
I have 3 out of 5 computers authorized.
On an Asus laptop, Windows 7.
If any other information is needed, please let me know.
    Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Please? ;-;
An unrelated question, how can I deauthorize the other 2 computers? I no longer have either. One burnt in a house fire and the other got run over by a truck (...yeah). I've looked for answers to this before but can't find anything other than  "You need to deauthorize from the computer" which obviously isn't an option here.

I just got a laptop that uses windows vista none of my previously purchased itune songs are showing up in my library. When I follow your instructions, it still does not work. I get the same error message about authorizing my computer again. I am not a computer person - please help!!! a

  • How to view computers that are authorized to play music

Is there a way to see what computers I’ve authorized to play music that I’ve purchased from the Itunes store, like maybe a serial number / model number combination, or some other identifying piece of information? I have several machines in different locations and it would be helpful to know, rather then just deactivating them all.
    Much thanks!

    No.

  • Music Purchased on iTunes will not play after 3.0.1 update

    Hello,
I have a 3GS 32GB. Since upgrading to 3.0.1, music purchased from iTunes won't play. Other music will play. Purchased music will play from the library on my laptop.
I have also been bitten by the failure to launch bug. Third party apps would not launch after the update. That problem has been solved, for now.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I has this same problem after upgrading my OS. I tried everything, reauthorizing, restoring, downloading new music (worked from iTunes not from iPhone). I got my apps to work by deleting them and redownloading but you can't do that for purchased music. Apple Support had me restore my iPhone as a new phone through iTunes (instead of restoring from a backup) after making sure EVERYTHING was backed up. Now everything works again and all my data is there and problem is solved. The only additional work I had was to reenter some settings that were lost.

  • Playing music purchased with apple id from closed email account

i can't play music purchased with an apple id from another email account that no longer exists
    Please Help!!!

Is it an old Apple ID of yours? If so, then whether the email is still valid or not, the Apple ID is still there. You need to authorize that ID to your computer by signing it onto iTunes and then clicking on Store on the top menu, then Authorize this computer.
If you don't remember the password to that old ID, you can change it here: Apple - My Apple ID
If you don't remember your Security Questions, you can have them reset by iTunes Support:

  • Hi,I wanted to know if i deauthorize my itunes account on my pc will itunes still let me play my purchases on my home computer because i'm trying to sell my laptop and I don't want anyone to use my account. Also will I be able to activate it on my home com

Hi,I wanted to know if i deauthorize my itunes account on my pc will itunes still let me play my purchases on my home computer because i'm trying to sell my laptop and I don't want anyone to use my account. Also will I be able to activate it on my home computer.I just need the money.

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

  • ITunes suddenly told me that my computer isn't authorized to play my purchases, but it is!

When I tried to sync my iPod the other day, iTunes suddenly decided my computer was no longer authorized to play my purchases.  Then when I authorized it, it said it was already authorized.  After clicking "okay" it took me back to the original message (the "this computer is no longer authorized" one).  It just goes round and round in circles.  I've tried several of the suggestions on here, but nothing seems to work.  Any ideas??
