Deleting assets from timeline

This is probably a dumb question... When we are building a Track, and decide that we want to delete an asset, we select the item's video and audio tracks and hit delete. The video track "extracts" the item and the remaining video slides earlier into the timeline - but the audio doesn't "extract". It behaves more like a "lift" - it stays in place and we must drag all of the audio tracks to match the video. Is there a way to "link" the audio and video so they both move to the right position when we delete something?

DVDSP is an authoring application, not a video editing application so there is very little provision for editing and rearranging the video tracks.
AS you discovered, audio and video are not linked in the same way that Final Cut Pro works.

The first asset (say 84200000-0) carries value in it and i retired it .

Deleting clip from Timeline does not throw off sync

My editor just discovered when she deletes a clip from the Timeline, with locked audio tracks, the clips are not flagged as out of sync...the red out-of-ssync indicators do not appear.
I took the sequence in question and copy/pasted it into a new sequence. Interestingly there were a few out of sync clips with red indicators although the source sequence had no such red indicators. I then ripple deleted a clip from the head of the sequence and all of the red indicators disappeared from the Timeline.
If I ripple delete a clip further down the Timeline, only the red indicators after that point disappear.
This is under FCP 6.04.
Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks for your help.

are the audio and video clips "unlinked?" not sure if that would make a difference, but worth a look see.
Might try deleting preferences.

Deleting tracks from timeline

I'm knew to StudioPro, why is it when you delete a video clip, all clips behind it move forward, but when you delete the matching audio clip, all clips behind it stay put? Is this just how it is, or is there a trick I'm missing?

Hi - welcome to the discussions.
To answer your question... it's just how it is.
Imagine for a moment that you are removing a section of footage from a stream of footage. What would happen when the 'hole' was reached? It couldn't play without the info so the clips shuffle along to fill the gap.
Audio, on the other hand, is not so important in a video stream - you can, after all, have silence.
What would be neat would be if the audio could get attached to the video and move with it when you remove a section. However, that isn't likely to be implemented, since in most professional workflows a track will have the footage composited and encoded before bringing it in to be authored. What you are effectively doing is continuing to composite the track from within the autrhoring environment. It's nice to be able to do so to make slight adjustments, but it isn't really what the app is about.

Delete Asset from Asset Rerun process

The asset class(Land - non depreciated) for and asset was accidentially changed to a class for Furnature and Fixtures(which is depreciatable). When the depreciation run was executed, it error out because of this one asset had a class which should have the dep.key = 0000(no account assignment), but instead now has a class different class.
Because the run errored, the depreciation was posted in the asset module, but not in FI. Now I cannot re-start the depreciation run until I can remove the asset.
How can I remove this asset and continue the restart process?

Ok Here is how it was resolved.
1) Reverse the asset cost for the asset (Tcode = AB08)
2) AO90 to assign G/L accounts.
3) Restart the Depreciation process to post Depreciation Cost...successful.
4) Run the Depreciation process normally to Reverse the Depreciation Cost(so there will be a Cr and Dr posting in the G/L account)
...Successful
5) AO90 to reove the G/L accounts.
6) Run the Depreciation process normally to confirm no more errors....successful

We have deleted some assets in AS06. Where can I view records of these deleted assets? A listing would be preferred, if not, does anybody knows the table name?

Hi,
no. When you delete an asset you confirm this by choosing the radio-button "physically delete asset" in AS06. What would be the sense to keep the asset in the data storage if you choose to delete it?
If you wanna keep the info, you can retire the asset or set a deactivation date into the master record manually. Then the asset is kept and not deleted.
You cannot conculde that missing asset numbers are the (AS06-) deleted assets in case you use the standard archiving functions. Archiving also (under given prerequisites) deletes assets from database after they are transfered to the archive.

since those assets are created by mistake, they should not come into asset history

this should be possible by using AS06 and deletinge these assets. Please note you need to set deactivation date in AS02 first.

Unexpected Result: Deleting asset file did not affect Encore

I am using Encore DVD 2.0. I deleted the DV AVI file, the asset for the timeline, from the folder of orgin. I did not remove the DV AVI asset from the Encore project. When I opened the Encore project, I expect the DV AVI file to have either a "broken link" or be disabled or say "file not found." But when I opened the Encore project, the project Preview played just fine as if the DV AVI file had not been deleted from the folder of orgin. Why is this?
This confused me for the following reason.....when I import an asset into an Adobe Premiere Pro project then delete the actual asset file, Adobe Premiere Pro will let me know that the file cannot be found, etc.

I did a Burn DVD Disc with encore on a project where the untranscoded original asset file had been deleted. The DVD played just fine. I'm going to do some further comparison testing, and will let you know more.

Deleting assets in the flowchart

As an inexperienced user of Premiere CS3 I am having trouble with the flowchart function and associated help documentation. After creating several links, I find that I need to remove some of them. There seems to be no reference anywhere as to how to do that. I have selected an asset in the flowchart and pressed delete - to no avail. The undo option under EDIT works only on the last applied change. I have also gone through the video tutorial and it is silent on deleting one or more links no longer wanted. Also, how do you delete an asset at the bottom of the flowchart, sometimes referred to as "orphanage"? Any help would be appreciated.

When using the Flowchart, you should also use the Properties panel. To "delete" a link, select the object that has the link, then look in the Properties panel, and choose "Delete" in the Link field.
The orphanage contains objects (timelines, slideshows, playlists, and menus) that are not linked in the project. The only ways to "clear" the orphanage are to either link to those objects in your project, or delete them from the Project panel.

Unable to delete photo from custom albums.

OK. Could you be more SPECIFIC and add some details. WHERE is the tab you mentioned?
I have the same problem mentioned above and have tried several different approaches, all to no avail. I can select the photos in in Collections and Moments, but the trash can icon turns grey and I cannot DO anything with them after I select them, other than share them with something/someone else.

How do I delete files from a portable hard drive

I've been backing up my MacBook Pro on an external portable hard drive. I need to delete some but not all the files from that portable hard drive permanently. When I highlight them and click to move them to Trash I get a message telling me this cannot be done because they are Read Only files? How do I go about it. I am required by work to delete them off this hard drive. Do I have to reformat the hard drive? If so how do I go about it?

You can easily delete files from a Time Machine Backup:
Click the Time Machine icon in the Dock.If the Time Machine icon isn’t in the Dock, look for Time Machine in the Applications folder.
Use the arrows or the timeline along the right side of your screen to browse through the backups Time Machine created.The windows behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
When you find the item you want to delete, select it, and then open the Action menu (looks like a gear) and choose Delete All Backups for the item.

Transfer assets from one asset class to another having different depreciation keys.

     I am a noob in FICO, and I am facing a problem while transferring assets from one asset class to another.
Below is the scenario.
I created two assets 100000000000-0 under asset class 4690a and 200000000000-0 under asset class 4690b. And I am trying to transfer the
asset from class 4690b to 4690a by selecting the option ‘New Asset’ in the transaction ABUMN. While doing this, I am receiving an error message as below.
'Posting with trans. type 300 not possible (No acquisition posted).'
     Message No. AA324.
Diagnosis:
     Transaction type 300 belongs to a transaction type group, which can only be used to post to assets to which posting has already been performed. However, no postings have been made to this asset.
Procedure:
     Use a transaction type from a transactio type group, which can be used for the first acquisition to an asset.
The error is related to the transaction type which I hadn’t explicitly created anywhere. But, when checked in transaction AO76, the transaction type 300 belongs to the transaction type group 30. In this group I am not able to find any solution related to the error.
Moreover, in some of the threads in SCN, I read that modifying the transaction type group might lead to something fatal.
Kindly help me in the below.
1. What exactly the error message is related with?
2. Is there any other method to transfer the asset to another class?
Please let me know if any further details are required regarding the scenario.

I understand that you want to transfer the old asset to new asset with different asset class with different depreciation keys and the old asset is not yet capitalized and does not have any Asset Values.
Assuming that since the First Asset is not yet capitalized, that seems to be that its just that ASset Master is created and no Asset Values appear in the Asset.(in other words no acquisition, capitalization, no dep. start etc.)..
Alternatively this asset can be advised to be blocked and flagged for deletion and create a new Asset in the new Asset Class and then capitalize the new asset by doing the acquisition according to the business process i.e. either via PO based process(GR) or Non PO based process.
The transfer of asset is required incase the old asset still have the values and you are transferring the old asset to new one with the left over values.
Also would request you to kindly share some screenshots of the AW01n of the old asset and screenshots of the AS03 to have more idea on it and provide a better solution to the same..

I intend to buy a Panasonic AG-HMC70U Shoulder Mounted Camcorder, which stores AVCHD 1080/60i (NTSC) video in SD/SDHC Cards.
I intend to buy a Sony VAIO F VPCF127FX/B 16.4" Notebook Computer, with Windows 7 Premium 64 bit, processor 1.73GHz Intel Core i7-740QM, 6 GBs RAM, and nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 1GB Dedicated.
Will I be able to output directly from CS-5 Timeline to TV, through notebook's HDMI out?

I have a few questions bellow in red:
I would get 1 Terabyte drives instead...they are not expensive. You might need the extra room if you have to do some exports to files. Get the fastest ones you can for editing...esata better than fw800...make sure you turn off indexing and format NTFS and assign specific drive letters to the externals...put tape on driive with the drive letter you gave it clearly marked. If you dont you will have a hard time swapping them and maintaining links with your project(s).

There's a program called neoscene by cineform that a lot of people use for avchd footage....you might want to look into having that just in case.

Test the tv -- output real footage from timeline to the same HD Tv you plan to use at show ....output to make sure it likes interlaced footage.
Here is the catch, I'm in Brazil, and this work will happen in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and we arrive 1 day before....this is why i'm trying to prepare as much as possible, in theory, before hand....

put pagefile on 2nd drive 1.5 x your ram with min and max size the SAME MAX SIZE so it never gets fragmented...do that first thing so the pagefile is near the center of disc. I guess you said 2 internal and 3 external ? so you can put your scratchdisk on disc 2 also...and assets and any exports you need to do on the externals...

2 - How do I do this pagefile to start at center of dics?
I will only have one internal disc, dedicated for OS.
Scratchdisk, assets and exports - I will have 3 external discs in total, one to edit, one for playing to, and the third one for copying....
plan on having an "emergency" helper that REALLY knows whats up with the computer and editing stuff in case you get stuck and have to focus on shooting and need help ...line that up beforehand.

go to the gallery and see if you can do anything to enhance the lighting or color correct lights, windows etc beforehand...
test everything .....so you dont have surprises that make you crazy on the day.
That will be impossible as we arrive 1 day before...I'm taking my lights, tripods, color gels...

I can tell you a work around to get you going in the meantime, just may be time consuming if you have a lot of clips in the timeline.
double click a clip missing audio
press the go to in point and copy the timecode to notepad
press the go to end point and copy timecode
right click clip, and reveal in project
double click the original in project
paste in timecode and set in & out points again
drag audio
As I said not the quickest way, but it works, and won't actually take as long as you'd think, 30 secs or so per clip, i just hope you don't have over 100 clips without audio
