  • How do you delete "auto-fill" addresses in Mail?

When you start to type a name in Mail, it gives you a list of email addresses associated with that name. Problem is, it'll list multiple email addresses for the same person even if you've deleted old addresses from Address Book.
Is there a way to delete some of these "auto-fill" addresses?
    Thanks

how do i delete auto fill emails on ipad

If you mean that when you start to enter an email address it completes the address with the incorrect one then the answer is no without restoring the iPad to factory defaults/new iPad.

  • Strange problem with auto-fill addresses in mail and address book

There's an entry in my address book (version 4.0.6) that keeps adding a first name to an entry. I keep deleting it and somehow the first name keeps getting added. I suspected that Mail (2.1.3) was using auto-fill or LDAP to take the name it remembered in Mail and put it in Address Book by associating the email address, so I turned off LDAP and auto-fill and the problem still persists.
As an aside, I use mobileme to sync two macs (Address Book) and a pc (Outlook) so I really want to clear up this problem so the phantom entry does not keep getting transfered to all databases.
Should I delete some cache or something? One other problem (unsure if it's related) is that my Mail application always ask for my keychain password on startup - I have tried the keychain repair app and it seemed to work once, though this problem persists, as well.
    Thank you in advance!

Yes. the dot in front makes it invisible.
    Show hidden files...
Open the terminal and type or copy/paste:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
Reverting to the default of NOT showing hidden files:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
Reboot or Force Finder quit needed for either change to show.
I'd move them both to the Desktop then reboot, if it works fine then you can Trash them.

  • How to modify the "To:" auto fill address field

I want to change and/or delete address's that auto fill in the "To:" field of mail.
    Is this possable?

The Mail.app stores all message recipients in a list of Previous Recipients and the address autofill feature pulls from the Address Book and the list of Previous Recipients.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients.
A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address. You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.

  • Auto fill addresses in SMS texts - where did it go?

I just had to swap out my iPhone4 (1st one only one month old had hardware problems) everything with the new phone seems fine, but I just noticed when texting that I can't type the first few letters of a person's name and it automatically shows all the close options. I have to manually type in the ENTIRE address or hit the plus sign and go to my contacts. This is a real pain - and it's taking too much time.
I can't find any setting to get the auto fill in SMS back. Auto fill on email is fine. Any suggestions?
    Many thanks!
    Bob

I hate to aks the obvious, but are you sure you have any contacts? There's no Setting to make certain that the auto-fill is on for SMS, so the only thing that makes sense is an empty Contacts.

  • Deleting auto-fill for usernames on facebook in safari

By mistake, I entered my username and password into the username box on facebook. Now my password is visible in the drop down box when I am logging into the site. I have tried deleting cookies, emptying cache, and adjusting my auto-fill preferences, and nothing has worked yet. I am a new mac user, and I recall on windows, I could highlight it and press "backspace" and it would erase.. can someone please tell me how to delete these automatic username suggestions.. Thank you

Go to Keychain Access in your Utilities folder and highlight the appropriate entry and delete.

  • Deleted auto fill Facebook/Safari keeps returning. (invalid login, dunno how it got there)

On my macbook air, Facebook/Safari there is an invalid login in the auto fill. When i delete via safari/preferences/passwords it disappears but after a while it re appears. Valid accounts can be deleted successfully but the invalid one just keeps coming back.

Perhaps a long shot. Check Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access/Passwords and see if it is there.

  • Deleting auto fill doesn't work

I've tried resetting safari settings and editing the auto fill in safari preferences, but some of my user names and passwords refuse to delete. I've tried "removing all" but about 20 usernames/passwords cannot be deleted. Why is this and how can it be solved?
    Thanks.

It's possible that Safari preferences have been corrupted. But you can still remove the usernames and passwords by opening Keychain Access and locating them in the Passwords > Internet list there and deleting them.

  • How do I delete auto-complete addresses in iPhoto?

Help! I've found a related discussion for deleting obsolete addresses in Apple mail and on the iPad (brilliant, by the way!), but neither solution seems applicable in iPhoto. Several old or incorrect addresses are offered when I address photos to share.  Apple store personnel were not familiar with the problem and said simply that iPhoto 'wasn't designed to do that, it's all together different'. Very frustrating.  Any ideas?

Could you elaborate on this 'solution' you mention? There's only one place that iPhoto gets email addresses, and it's from Address Book or by you entering it manually, after which it's in Mail's list of Previous Addresses. So deleting an address from there is the only way to get rid of it.

  • Tiny red dots underlining auto-fill address and name fields?

Just very recently, my computer started to underline, with tiny red dots, some of my inputs into address fields, and even now, while I am writing this message.
Is this a virus? What can it be?

    welcome to Discussions!
You probably have your Safari spell-checker on.
To disable it, open Safari, and go to Edit>Spelling and UNcheck "Check Spelling as you type".
    Good luck!

  • How do I delete auto-fill logons?

Sometimes an erroneous logon gets typed in for a site and that logon is saved somewhere. I want to go to that place and delete the incorrect logons I have accumulated from that list. If I have to, I would delete all logons and start over just to get rid of the bad ones.

I want to Thank You Very Much for responding to my question with the exact answer I needed! It works perfectly.
I have tried several other software "help" forums in the past with little or no success. This is the first time ever I received a very quick response from someone who not only knew what they were talking about, but actually understood my problem! I can't thank you enough.

  • Unable to completely disable auto-fill suggestions in search bar.

Entering a simple "e" in the search/adress bar still suggests ebay.com, "r" suggests rambler.ru and so on, this is highly annoying seeing as I only want it to suggest things out of my history, not suggest new items.
    Tried;
    Clearing all data
    browser.urlbar.autoFill false
    browser.formfill.enable false
    signon.autofillForms false
Firefox latest (non beta), Android 4.2.2, HTC One X.
At loss what to do at this point, if I can't get it fixed I'm switching firefox for chrome in a heartbeat because I keep losing so much time typing in extra information or deleting auto-fills information.

To clarify: I've never visited or searched for either ebay or rambler.ru (Don't even speak Russian for that matter), while I suspect I've overlooked something obvious (Maybe it's google search? But surely I would be able to disable that auto-suggestion/filling somewhere?)
