Deleting Backup changes Mighty Mouse Settings

Hi All,
yesterday I stumbled upon a somehow funny phenomenon:
I deleted some large files from the backup (via Time Machine) and after that Button 3 and 4 of my Mighty Mouse were set to their default functions (which is ... "Button 3" & "4") instead of "Exposé - All Windows" and "Dashboard".
This is 100% reproduceable on my MBP, regardless wether I delete a single file or a bunch of them or if the notebook was just rebootet etc.
I reset them to my desired preferences, boom - next time after deleting within Time Maschine it's the default values of these Buttons again.
Besides that this is a bit boring (luckily I don't have to delete files from the backup that often) I'm concerned what other side effects can occur on my system which may be compromising it's reliability.
I also noticed that T M became a bit unresponsive since manipulating the backup.
It takes quite some time until I can navigate within T M.
Any clues what's going on?
Thanks a lot - Michael.

This is 100% reproduceable on my MBP, regardless wether I delete
a single file or a bunch of them or if the notebook was just rebootet etc.
Still happens with 1.5.2

  • Can't Change Magic Mouse Settings

I just got my new Magic Mouse in the mail today. I paired it with my MacBook with no problem. The thing is, when I go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Bluetooth, my mouse isn't listed. If I pair my Mighty Mouse, it is. But that Magic Mouse is not.
I really want to set up scrolling and gestures, but right now I can only click! Am I looking in the wrong place? Did I miss a step?

I agree with the tracking speed. I had to drag slider for speed to max in mouse configuration.
Whenever I plan to play Windows games that utilize mouse's wheel, I have to switch mouse to one with wheel.. I have to reset the slider back to default every time I switch. Otherwise, Mr Flash likes that setting!
@Apple: Can you provide update with official tweak so the default tracking speed is how it should be? Much appreciated!

  • I have messed up the settings on my Mighty Mouse and don't know where they should be.  I cannot open a document by double-clicking anymore.  I don't know what setting adjusts that.

I need help with my Mighty Mouse settings.  Don't understand the settings.  I can no longer open a document by double-clicking.  I think I changed my setting someway when I was trying to correct or find my up and down scrolling.   Please help.

I think you need to un-pair your mouse.   Leave it a few minutes than re-pair it as if you were starting from scratch and using the following details.   Item 1 will probably meet your needs.

  • CC programs freeze when mouse settings are changed to left hand use

    Hi everyone,
I have a little problem with several CC programs, when the mouse setting is changed to letf hand use for one user.
We are running Windows 7 x64 Professional and the latest version of Adobe CC 2014 of Photoshop and Illustrator.
When the user works with large files, the CC program (Photoshop in most cases, but e.g. Illustrator as well)  freezes, the only window that works then is the window of the file that is open at the moment. Windows of other files are not clickable . When the taskmanager is opened then the other windows become clickable again. But when the user clicks somewhere, for example on the desktop  a right click is a left click. that stops when a the left mouse button is clicked, than it works again.
The problem appears once or twice a day. When we change the mouse settings back to normal everything works fine.
I appreciate any hints and help
    Thanks,
    Andre

    I tested them all.
As I already mentioned above: I just don't use the Touch and Launch Tool. I prefer to use only the extended functions of the usual Toshiba driver (as the extended corner functionality or the Easy Launcher). I know that I can set the mouse speed there. (that's what I did) But I?m already at the maximum speed and moreover there?s no possibility to increase the mouse acceleration. That?s why I?d like to change this in the usual windows-settings window.
For the moment I placed a shortcut to the mouse settings in the autostart folder. So every time I start up, I can change the settings immediately. But of course this is no long-term solution.
By the way: My goal is to have as less tools and running software as possible on my computer, because I use it for music production and a really need all resources I can get!!

    Hi, Guys!!
And you have some right cosmic_hippo , Why?
Well think that the real problem it's something between Firefox and Flash content...
because if i use Safari and i try make what i describe in the first post, i don't have any problem with the mouse settings.
Only Happens when i use Firefox...

  • Mighty Mouse Bluetooth Connectivity

    Hi,
I have a wireless Mighty Mouse and a new MacBook. If I turn on my mighty mouse first, then turn on my MacBook, the mouse works fine, but if I forget to turn on my mighy mouse until after I have already turned on my MacBook, it will not connect automatically!!??
When I had a Windows PC, I had a wireless keyboard and mouse from Logitech. Even if I turned on my PC first, then turned on my mouse or keyboard, it would automatically start working, but now I am using my Mac, unless I turn on my mighty mouse first, my Mac will not find it. Why is this and is this normal??
I have just purchased a wireless Apple keyboard, I have not used it yet, but will the same thing happen with this also??
Please help. Thank you for all your help with this annoying matter.

    Hi again Dai Bach,
    Thanks for your help mate.
I was wondering, you use a wireless mighty mouse as well. I have now own 2 mighty mouse, my current wireless one and a wired one I had with my old Windows PC before I switched.
I am having great difficulty using the right click, which you are supposed to be able to do with the mighty mouse instead of control clicking to get the contextual menu up. If I do use the right click, it very rarely works, if it does work, I am amazed, but I can never repeat it!!!
I have to resort to control clicking with the mouse to get the contextual menu to appear, which sort of misses the point of having the mighty mouse in the first place!!! If this was the first time it had happened, I would say it was a problem with my mouse, but this is the second mighty mouse I have had and the same thing happened with my first one.
I tried changing the mouse settings to see if the mouse hardware works correctly. I went into the keyboard and mouse system preferences and switched the primary and secondary mouse buttons over so it was configured for a left handed person. The left click and right click actions then worked perfectly, but when I put the mouse back to the standard configuration, so the primary click was the left mouse button and the secondary cllick was the right, the right mouse button stopped working when I wanted to right click something!!
Why does the right click work when I have it set as the primary button, but not work when I have it set as the secondary button? Do you or anyone else have any ideas? Does this happen to you too? Is this a well known problem?
Cheers. Thanks for all your help.

  • Why are my magic mouse settings reseted sporadically after a newstart

    Hallo,
sporadically after a newstart of my mac mini with mountainlion the mouse settings from my magic mouse are reseted.
So that I have to configure the cursorspeed and horizontal scroll direction again.
Is there anybody who has got an idea about that?
    Thx.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try deleting the mouse settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart.
Finally, change the mouse settings on System Preferences > Mouse, and check if they are saved

  • Why are mouse settings defaulting after 'switch user'?

change mouse settings from default for user A
    switch to user B
    switch back to user A
changes to mouse settings have been wiped and the default mouse settings restored
What is causing this and how can I prevent it from happening?
I've tried various things with user A like logging off entirely, rebooting, even making other changes in the settings that require an admin password in the hope that this might force some sort of admin override

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these two files.
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • What is button 4 on Mighty Mouse?

    Hi,
what exactly is the button 4-setting in the Mighty Mouse settings in Tiger and how can it be configurated.
    Thanks in advance - Christoph

there is also the possible setting "Button 4" and I just wanted to know what that is for and where I can maybe specify what button 4 should do - other than the possibilities that are shown in the drop-down menue. Sorry for making it not clear...
There is also the setting "Button 3" for the scrollball... I don´t want to believe that Apple just wanted to tell us that this is a third and fourth button... that would be obvious, wouldn´t it?
Are you asking what it means if you set a button's function to be "Button 3", or "Button 4"?
They don't do anything directly in OSX. OSX uses Left-click (Button 1) to select, and Right-click (Button 2) for contextual menu. X11 and other applications (such as Maya) may be written to work with a mouse with more than two buttons. When running such an application, the mouse settings determine which of the Mighty Mouse functions (pressing the scroll-ball, or squeezing the side buttons) will be interpreted by the application at the third or fourth button of a multi-button mouse.

  • Unable to change mouse settings in System Preferences

Using a standard wired USB Apple Mouse (oval shape with scrolling nib and squeeze option for the 4th button), the options in System Preferences seem to have no effect. Have tried configuring the secondary button (to emulate right click) and nothing happens. The 4th button used to function as "Mission Control" but now there is no effect. Is it possible the mouse hardware no longer works? It's less than a year old.
Some other information:  I recently reinstalled the iMac to make room for BootCamp and Windows 7. Could that process have soured to mouse settings? Right clicking (same mouse) works in Windows 7 so I doubted the hardware problem.
I've followed steps for removing HID plists and stuff from the Library/Preferences area, but no joy.  Is there some other troubleshooting I can perform to get this feature working again?  It *was* working before the reinstall, but now isn't.
BTW: I'm aware of the "<control>click" to get a right click going, but when you get used to using something and are very productive in that method it is difficult to just "change the way I'm doing it" so please help me to find the cause for this issue instead of teaching me new ways to do things.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Re-pairing Mighty Mouse after every battery change.

Do I really have to do this every time, because it's driving me nuts. I dread the battery dying because it means I have to go dig out an old corded mouse, plug it in, slog through the pairing wizard, then finally continue my work. Why do I not have to do this with either of my wireless keyboards?

    Hello,
You should not have to re-pair your wireless devices after changing the batteries. Next time you replace the batteries in your Mighty Mouse, set the mouse down on the mouse pad, give it a second or two to connect wirelessly and then move it to see if the cursor tracks. If the device is listed as connected in the Bluetooth menu, then it should work.
Also, make sure the Bluetooth icon is displayed in your Status Menu Bar. System Preferences/Bluetooth. Bottom left hand corner of that window, click Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar. You'll be able to always see which "devices" are connected.
And it's very important to keep the MMouse clean. How to Clean Your Mighty Mouse
You can also try deleting the Bluetooth preference file. com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.

  • Does Time Machine Backup irritate wireless Mighty Mouse?

Hi there. I'm having a strange issue here. With an iMac that came with bluetooth mouse and keyboard, OS out of the box (no software updates installed because there's no internet connection), each time Time Machine is backuping files, the Mighty Mouse is acting weird. It actually feels like someone else is working with it. Even if I do not use it and leave it alone, the pointer goes wild on the screen. Trying to work during Time Machine backups is impossible, because I cannot use the Mouse properly.
Does anyone of you have a similar, if not, the same issue? Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    later, Stephan

I am having a similar problem with my IMac and Time Machine. During wireless Time Machine backups, the wireless mighty mouse and wireless keyboard disconnect. If the mighty mouse remains connected, it moves very slowly and is virtually unusable.
So far I've thought of two potential problems to troubleshoot:
    1. I experience this problem when I connect to the Time Machine through the "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" wireless connection (set in the AirPort Utility), but I don't experience the same problem when I connect to the Time Machine through a wired ethernet connection. So it appears the b/g compatible setting is causing interference. I haven't tested to see if the "802.11n only" wireless connections causes this problem or not.
    2. I also wonder if the IMac does not have enough RAM to complete the wireless backup. My IMac has 2gigs of RAM, and during backups it maxes out. I plan to upgrade to 4 gigs to see if the problem continues. (Stephan, how much RAM to you have installed?)
    peace,
    Marcus

  • I have my FireFox browser set to delete the history when I close the window. It was working for a while and has recently just stopped with no changes to the settings.

I have my FireFox browser set to delete all the history when I close the window. It was working for a very long time and has recently stopped with no changes to the settings. This has happened once before and I deleted FireFox and re-downloaded it, that solved the problem for a short period of time but the issue has come up again. How can I fix this?

Can you check your configuration again? Maybe something went pear-shaped somewhere. It's located in Tools | Options | Privacy and then click the Settings button (see screenshot).
