Deleting backups on icloud

i am trying to get my icloud storage under 5g to avoid paying for storage.. will deleting my 6g of back up storage be a problem if i have a bck up that is more rescent at 1.7 g

Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are going to erase your backup file from iCloud, you may wish to back up to iTunes before you do. However if you intend creating a new backup on iCloud once you have deleted your existing one, you shouldn't have any problems doing so.

  • HT201104 how do i delete backups in iCloud

I just sold an iPad.  Per instructions, I deactivated find my iPhone, and used the backup from iCloud to restore key applications and data to a new device.  Now I want to delete the backup that I used from the "named device" that I used to own.  When I try to delete it it tells me that the backup is "in use" even though my new device now shows up as a separate item.
How can I delete this backup and reclaim some of my iCloud drive storage?

I believe that when you restore from a backup, that backup is "locked" for a period of time.  So you will have to wait until the time elapses.  You can call Applecare and ask them how long you have to wait prior to deleting the backup file, or maybe they can assist in it's removal.

  • HT5262 Deleting backup from iCloud

Can I delete old iCloud backups or will that mess up my subsequent backups and cause problems?

Is this how you do it?
    Restore from iCloud backup
    1. Erase all contents and settings (Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings)
    2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
    3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
    4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
    5. Configuration start
    6. Set language
    7. Set country
    8. Enable Location Service
    9. Select network, enter password and join network
    10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup
    11. Selected Restore from iCloud Backup
    12. You'll be required to enter Apple ID and Password
    13. Agree to Terms and Conditions
    14. Select Backup file
    15. You'll see progress bar
    16. Red slider will appear; slide to unlock; step #1 to #16 is fast
    17. Pre-installed apps will be restored first
    18. Message: Purchased apps and media will now be automatically downloaded
    19. You'll see a pageful of apps with Waiting/Loading/Installing
    20. When the restore process is complete, your device will restart. You should connect the device to iTunes to sync data not contained in the backup (such as music, videos, apps, and so on).

  • What happens if I click "delete backup" in order to delete the iCloud backups from my sisters phone off my device. Will it delete everything on her phone?

So a while ago when I got my phone I started a new Apple ID account/ iCloud.. Then when my sister got a new iphone I gave her my id to use too. In settings-general-usage it says that my storage is almost full. I then click on manage storage and it shows my phone and my sisters phone and how many gb or whatever. Also it says "last backup failed" and other stuff that's Irrelevant. Now when I click on my sisters phone I have an option to "delete backup" MY QUESTION is if I click the delete backup button will it just delete the iCloud backup off my phone OR will it totally delete everything involving the backup off my sisters phone forever??? Please help! Thank you so much!!!!!

Deleting a backup deletes the backup only from the iCloud storage, not anything on the iPhone.
The iPhone's iCloud backup will be updated at some point - automatically when the iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network while connected to a power source unless the iCloud backup is turned off on the iPhone.

  • I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be back

I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)

I am unable to delete the last backup from icloud, i checked my all device setting but it still say "cannot delete icloud this time because it is in use,"Please tell me what should i do

    It still didn't work...
Within this commonfiles\apple folder, there is only one folder, labeled "Internet Services." Within this folder, there are 6 folders, labeled:
    APLZOD.resources
    BookmarkDAV_client.resources
    CoreDAV.resources
    iCloud.resources
    iCloudServices.resources
    ShellStreams.resources
Within all but CoreDAV and BookmarkDAV_client, there are multiple different folders, all labeled starting with a two letter (acronym I believe, for different languages) then .lproj (for example, a folder is labeled "ar.lproj".
In each of the folders of APLZOD.resources, there is a file labeled "APLZODlocalized.dll."
In all of the folders containing the multiple .lproj folders, there are likewise "name"localized.dll files contained.
In the BookmarkDAV_client and Core DAV folders, they each contain only one file, "Info.plist"
I attempted to delete all of these files, and still, the FileAssassin could not delete them. I unlocked one of them for instance, and I tried to delete the file myself (thru windows explorer and just clicking delete), and I still had the same issue of coming eventually to the window requesting me to "try again" to have permission.
What can I do?? I'd like to avoid Unlocker, but if it really is a reliable and SAFE program, and someone knows a SAFE place to download it from, I'd appreciate it very much so!!
    thanks!!

Follow the steps in wjosten's post here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770 (for Windows, substitute Outlook in step 2).

  • Cannot delete old iPad iCloud backup "because it is in use"

I previously owned an iPad 3 which I sold a few weeks ago. After buying an iPad Air, I restored it from the iPad 3 backup in iTunes, and now I want to delete the iCloud backup of the old iPad 3. However, when trying to delete the iCloud backup I get the popup:
"This backup cannot be deleted because it is in use."
I've tried to delete the iPad 3 iCloud backup both from my iPad Air and on my iPhone 5 devices, but the same popup appear. Worth mention is that after buying the iPad Air, I first tried to set it up from the iPad 3 iCloud backup, but all items wasn't fully restored, so decided to restore the new iPad Air from the iPad 3 backup in iTunes.
Is the anyone who has experience the issue of not being able to delete an old iCloud backup? How can I try to solve it? I've tried to restart my devices and I've also deleted both my iPhone 5 iCloud backup and my new iPad Air backup, but it's still not possible to delete the old iPad 3 backup.

Hi, I'm having the same issue.  I found this in the Apple Support page
You'll be notified if a backup is in use.
If you try to delete a backup but get an alert that the backup is in use, wait 48 hours before trying again. A backup is considered in use if it was recently created by another iOS device or is being restored by another iOS device. If you can't delete the backup after 48 hours, contact Apple Support.

    Hope this helps.

  • If I delete a backup on iCloud, will that erase the data from that backup on my phone?

I had to get a replacement iPhone 5 because of a faulty power button on my first one. In order to keep my data, I used iCloud to backup my phone and transfer it to the replacement. Now I have a backup of my old phone and the replacement and that really limits my available space. (1) Is there a way to merge these together? (2) If I delete the old backup, will the data transferred from it be deleted on the replacement? Sorry if this is confusing and thanks in advance for any helpful information.

You can't merge backups.  Also, deleting a backup only permanently deletes it from iCloud; it doesn't do anything to the data currently on the phone.  If you no longer need your old backup go ahead and delete it.

  • How to delete blocked Backup on iCloud

    Hi there,

    NOW PROBLEM:
The old backup-data couldn't be deleted from my icloud account.
Error message says, that the file is in use or blocked by another device.
thats definitely wrong. So can u tell me how to delete the corrupted/blocked file?
it blocks a real huge amount of memory
    thx for your help

  • How to delete backup data in icloud to free up storage space?

My iphone 4s has not been backed up in 3 weeks because it says "there is not enough iCloud storage available". Through viewing the data sizes currently backed up in iCloud, the Camera Roll is taking up 99% of the space. I deleted almost everything from the camera roll and photo stream on the actual iphone device, but what do I need to do in order for the storage space to be freed? Is there another place I need to check to delete data (i.e. photos) and regain the storage space available and resume successful backups?
    Many thanks,
    SM

So by selecting "Delete Backup" it will delete everything backed up to iCloud from other apps as well, correct? Is there anywhere I can go to view the actual data being backed up and specifically delete certain data? Without knowing exactly what has been backed up, I'm hesitant to delete everything.

  • My iPhone 5S is using 2.5GBs of storage for the camera roll.  I deleted all but 190 photos and this did not change.  My other devices cannot backup to iCloud due to the volume on my iPhone.  Any ideas?

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.
