Deleting Bookmarks in Safari 5

Does someone know how to delete a bookmark that has been added to the Bookmark drop down tab of the Safari Menu? Thank you!!!

Tks for your reply, Ho Lee. I did delete it there, but it still shows on top under Bookmarks. I'm not even sure how I got there to begin with...
This is what I see when I click the Bookmarks tab on the Safari Menu.
Show All Bookmarks
Add Bookmark...
Add Bookmark For These Tabs
Add Bookmark Folder
Bookmarks Bar
Dictionary.com (Unwanted bookmark)
Open in Tabs
Any ideas?

  • Cannot delete bookmarks in Safari

Every time I try to delete a bookmark from the bookmark bar, Safari locks up and I have to force quit.  I can't get the bookmark icon to open at all.  When I go to Bookmarks on the Safari toolbar, it shows what I want to delete, but locks up when I try to actually perform the task.  This is getting old really fast!  I bet I've sent 25 "reports to Apple" in the past 2 days.  Advice welcomed and appreciated.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If you still have the original file from your other computer, first trash the existing bookmarks.plist file found (via the Finder) in your Home>Library>Safari folder. Then, copy that file to your new computer via Airport, or copy to a flash drive, or CD. Copy it to the Safari folder.
    Next, restart Safari.
If you don't have access to that file, export your existing bookmarks to the Desktop via the File Menu. Then, trash the existing bookmarks.plist file. Now open Safari, File>Import bookmarks. Navigate to the file you exported to your desktop. Try to delete or add a bookmark.
If the problem persists, try Safari from another User Account (you can create one, if necessary, in System Preferences>Accounts. If the Bookmarks function doesn't work there, then reinstall Safari.

  • Can't delete bookmarks or add bookmarks on my iOS7 Safari.

I have a iPad2 wifi 16gb. I want to delete bookmarks from Safari. I have tried everything from the forums, "edit>delete. Nothing. My bookmarks are locked and won't delete. I can't add any as well. Anyone can help? Is this a bug?

    I fixed it..sort of.
Using the link below, BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)  sent an email with a link to set up the email through the web. It was a very quick and easy set-up for Google App Email. No guessing settings - it just worked. And it allowed me to have two email set-ups with the same email address..sort of.
There was no way to have two mail folders on the phone with the old mail & new, but by doing it this way, a new folder was set up on my phone for the new address, and all the old messages remained in the Main Message folder. I don't know if that would have happened if I deleted the old account. I read a lot of people having trouble with Google Apps setup so this is definitely the way to go:

  • How to restore deleted Bookmarks

How do i restore deleted Bookmarks.  Safari 6.1.6

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.

  • Deleting a bookmark in Safari

    Hello,
This is a safari question, but I am unable to access the safari board, and thought this was a basic enough question that any experienced Apple user could answer it.
I am unable to delete bookmarks. I can add them, of course, but cannot figure out how to delete individual bookmarks I am no longer interested in.
Can anyone help with this question?
    Thanks,
    Azurefox

Up at the top of Safari, below the URL Toolbar bar, you should have a bookmark bar on which at the left is a small open page icon.
Create a new Tab (Apple = T) then click on that icon to open the bookmark window in a new Tab.
On the left you should see a COLLECTIONS group and a BOOKMARKS group.
The entries in the BOOKMARK group can be removed (right click and then select Delete). They can be moved to reorder them and so on.
    Chris

  • Safari will not delete bookmarks

Safari will not add or delete bookmarks.  If a bookmark is deleted it will reappear when safari is reloaded. Same thing when adding a bookmark.

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try creating a new bookmark. If that didn't help, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset. Try a bookmark.

  • TS4040 Safari giving me headaches. Can't delete bookmarks, etc. Must force quit all the time

I have a Mac OS X  Lion. I have tried several suggestions as to how to fix my Safari problems...and none have worked.
Months ago, I took my computer to the Apple store, they wiped the hard drive, loaded Lion operating system. I reinstalled everything that had been saved on Carbonite and have been having trouble with Safari ever since.
Can I reinstall Safari? Or/and what must I do to delete bookmarks?
Thanks, in advance, for all the suggestions. Most appreciated.  Jan

Sorry, I should have added this error message that I get when trying to move the rejected clips to the trash:
The operation could not be completed. * -[NSPlaceholderMutableDictionary initWithObjects:forKeys:]: number of objects (0) not equal to number of keys (4)
Perhaps this will help someone with nailing down what the issue is.
    Thanks again.

  • Safari 7 - how do you delete bookmarks?  Is there a general tool for managing bookmarks?

I am trying to manage many duplicated and unorganized bookmarks in safari 7.   I bought an app - ibookmarks but it doesn't seem to work.  Is there a recomended tool I could use vs. going one by one?
    Thank you,
    Jay

I have soo many and many duuplicates that the folder is useless - handling them one by one isn't an option.  I did discover if you hold down the shift key and select the bottom most bookmark you want to delte you can kill many at once but it doesn't really allow you to do much more than a bulk delete ...... what happened to the screen where you could edit the bookmarks in a folder .... your help is appreciated.

  • Stop Safari from Deleting Bookmarks

Problem: I have the bookmarks page open (my new windows start that way). When I type in Safari's address and search bar, if I make an error, Safari will notice the misspelling and underline words. Meanwhile, I have noticed the error. I type backspace a few times to erase what I've typed. The focus in Safari jumps to the bookmarks column and begins deleting bookmark folders, one for each backspace.
Why? How do I stop this? (Other than never correcting my typing.)
I am not interested in solutions to recover these folders. I use Time Machine. But I need this behavior to stop.

    From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Text ▹ Text ▹ Use symbol and text substitution: Off
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Edit ▹ Substitutions
    and uncheck Text Replacement.

I somehow deleted a folder filled with bookmarks from Safari. I have the same folder on my Firefox application. How do I transfer the folder on Firefox over to Safari?

I found the post under the "More Like This" window at the top right of the Discussions page:
    Essentially, it led me to:
In my case I didn't want to import all of my bookmarks, just a folder.
What I did was: In Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize
Select the file folder of bookmarks I wanted to move to Safari
Under the "star"icon in toolbar, select Export HTML
Select location to save the file, then SAVE
    Open Safari,
    Import Bookmark....

Hi, Newly saved bookmarks are showing up farther up the drop down window where I recently deleted bookmarks. How do get Safari to revert back to normal? Thanks.
