Deleting clips - iMovie 10.0.6 0 on Yosemite OS

I am editing a basketball game.  I highlighted and chosen "Favorite" parts of a clip (a player blocking a shot as an example)...the 70% of the clip that is basically players running around I want to delete and trash it in order to free up storage.  I "Reject" the portion I want to trash and "move to trash"...the problem is the entire clip is moved to trash including the "Favorite".  Help.

In the absence of any sooner reply, I just bit the bullet and went ahead with the iMovie upgrade, paying £10.49 for the privilege.  I have mixed feelings about the outlay - I don't know how long one can reasonably expect to get free upgrades to ever-evolving software.  That question aside, I am very happy with the result.  I was seriously worried after reading various reviews that this might be a hopelessly dumbed-down version.  Not the case.  It has retained all the functionality I require.  It is not seemingly any better than my previous version, but importantly (for me at least) is the fact that it is not any worse!
I'm sorry that I am not able to answer YOUR question about the camera!  I would suggest probably just doing what I did, upgrading and seeing if it works.  Alternatively, get yourself to the Genius Bar and see what they have to say.  I myself am using footage shot on my new iPad Air 2 [he boasts], and it is fantastic.  I am amazed by how the file sizes balloon when imported to iMovie, but now that I have worked out how to operate with all my iMovie Library media on an external drive that has ceased to be a problem.

  • When I try to delete a clip, iMovie deletes the entire soundtrack!

I am again trying to edit a library program which we filmed. I'm using our "old" macbook running Mavericks and iMovie 9. This is what happened.
Our presenters had a Powerpoint presentation which they wanted us to integrate into the film. I saved it two ways: as a quicktime movie and as a group of photos in iPhoto. Then I began editing the film as usual. When I got to the Powerpoint presentation, I detached the audio from the film, split the clip, and deleted small segments. I then replaced those segments of film with the photos, which I treated as clips and made the same length as the clips I'd deleted.
It's fiddly work, but it was going well, and I had inserted 50 images when something strange happened. I was preparing to add another one, and split the clip, saved, and deleted as usual. This time, I found that, in addition to a 6.6 second clip, iMovie had deleted the entire soundtrack of the presentation! I can't understand why this is suddenly happening, after doing hours of work with no problem, and I can't understand how to stop it. It's maddening!
What I did: checked the disk and repaired permissions, twice. I also went to terminal and ran the daily, weekly, and monthly scripts. Nothing helped. It's still happening.
The macbook is a 2 GHZ Intel core duo with 2 gigs of ram. I have 26 gigs free on the hard drive.
Can anyone help me? I really need to get this film done, and I have more than 60 images to go!
    Mary

"how can I see these green lines to find out where the audio is attached?"   In the project timeline as shown in my screen shot in my last post - but as you will see below you don't have to worry about this.
Replacing a clip will avoid deleting any attached audio and ensure that the replacement clip has exactly the same duration, avoiding the sync problem.
However there is a still easier way.  Don't split the video at all but simply place the Powerpoint slide stills above the video wherever you want them.  They will replace the video below (cutaway clip).  Now you can move and adjust the duration of the stills without any risk of loosing audio synchronisation.

  • How to delete clips in old Imovie version instructions do not work

How can I delete clips in events in imovie? I get the red line but when i click send to trash nothing happens. Likewise when I press command delete together the clips are not trashed. Just a "beep" Help! My computer is full!

That is to rename the Sections within the template, not the name of the Template in the Template Chooser, and it is greyed out if there are no alternative sections.
It is clumsy but you either go to the Templates folder in your User Library and rename it there, or save it with the new name and then delete the old one.

  • IMovie/ Final Cut Pro Deleting Clips/Projects

Ok, I'm an Apple newbie for about three weeks. I don't understand if I delete footage or photos I import to iMovie or FCE HD within the software, if they are permanently deleted.
In Windows, I'd have to search the Hard Drive and look for "My Videos" and delete clips there. I imported and played with some clips this morning in iMovie and FCE HD and did a File/Clear for each photo and clip. Is that it? Are they gone for good once I do that?
How about deleting completed projects once I export them? Thank you in advance for your assistance in familiarizing me with Apple and Mac!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Your DV files in iMovie are stored in a Media folder within the My Great Project file. You can tell this by the size of the file being in the gigs.
FinalCut is a different animal. You have a preassigned location in your preferences where your Capture and Render folders are located. When you capture footage from your camera, the Capture folder is where you will find the original file. When you render an effect or transition, it will go in your Render folder. Trash the content of these folders when you complete a project (or backup accordingly).

  • Deleted clips - exporting?

    Hello,
during a general iPad cleanup I deleted some old photos. Accidentally, I also deleted an iMovie video (in Camera Roll) and some of its source files. Although I cannot export the project, I am still able to view a fluent preview of the video in iMovie, with the missing clips. Where is the file with the preview, because the clips are gone and They are still visible in the preview. I need to export this preview file so I can view it in Camera Roll again. Where is the preview file (and PLEASE don't tell me Apple doesn't officially support programs like iExplorer if needed)?
    Best regards!

You know the answer already, so I won't tell you as asked.
We cannot discuss JB or non apple approved software on this forum.
I suggest you do a google search.
You will find no answers here.

  • Can't Delete clips from Iphoto event

This is driving me crazy. I can't delete clips from the "iPhoto" event within imovie '08. Followed all the instruction, nothing. The 'move rejected clips to trash' in the menu is grayed out. Anybody have any solutions?? Thanks

Delete them in iPhoto. iMovie will not delete material "owned' by another application.

  • How do I delete an iMovie event.

I can't find a way to delete my experimental projects.   So I delete clips but the seemingly empty project still stays on the list.  I can't seem to click and hit keyboard delete or drag it to the dock trash.  I can't find a trash spot on the iMovie.  What am I missing?
    Help would be appreciated.

Right click the Project and then choose Move Project to Trash.

  • I accidentally deleted my iMovie off my mac, anyone know how to get it back because it came for free and is now 15 dollars to buy back??? pls help

i accidentally deleted my iMovie off my mac, anyone know how to get it back because it came for free and is now 15 dollars to buy back??? pls help

If you mean you accidentally removed the icon for iMovie from the Dock (the array of icons at the bottom of the window), you can add it back easily.
Open the Applications folder (if you open it from the Dock you may then need to click the Open in Finder icon), locate the iMovie program.
Drag the icon for iMovie down to the Dock, somewhere between the icon for Finder and the dashed line toward the right.
Wait for the icons at that spot to move aside, then drop it in.

  • "Move, trim, or delete clips in the primary storyline without affecting connected clips" doesn't work here

Move, trim, or delete clips in the primary storyline without affecting connected clips
That’s just what I was waiting for!
But it's very difficult for me to use this option
First af all the choice of the "Grave accent", which isn't present itself on the Mac keyboard, is somewhat strange in my opinion.
So, according to my keyboard viewer, to get grave accent I have to use alt-\ or alt-9, which is itslef too complicated.... Couldn't they program a simple modifier key (alt, or command, or ctrl...)?
Anyway, in both cases I get strange behaviours.
Infact I get alert sound, which meanes something strange is happening, and the behaviours are not what I want...
    Any help?
    Thanks

You can set that key to something else that suits you better.
(just as you can customize keyboard shortcuts all over the application, changing and adding shortcuts as you wish).
The name for this command is "Override connections".
Go to  Final Cut Pro->Commands. This will open the "Command Editor".
In order to not mess with the default set of commands, first make a copy by selecting "Duplicate..." in the popup menu at the top left of Command Editor. Call this something meaningful (or leave it as "Copy of default").
Enter "Override connections" (without the quotes) into the search box at the top right. Now you can enter an appropriate keyboard shortcut for it.
(Note: if you choose something that is already assigned to a different function, you'll get a warning dialog box)

  • Is it safe to delete an iMovie project or will it also delete the movie in the Theater?

Is it safe to delete an iMovie project to save memory  or will it also delete the movie in the iTheater?

Thank you very much....I am new to Apple from a pc, so I am really a novice!!
Just to clarify, the movie will stay in the file and in the theater even though it is too big for iCloud?

  • I think I might of accidentally deleted my iMovie.

I think I might of accidentally deleted my imovie. It is not in "cache" and the remains in the "application support" folder are not there not there. It is not in my trash.  Is there anyway I can get it back without paying $14.99.

Restore from TimeMachine backup, doesn't get any easier.

  • I deleted my iMovie from computer and from my purchases list in AppStroe. When I'm trying to download it again from App Store a pop up window comes up and says: "These apps were already assigned to your Apple ID and are available in your Purchases list"

I deleted my iMovie from computer and from my purchases list in AppStroe. When I'm trying to download it again from App Store a pop up window comes up and says: "These apps were already assigned to your Apple ID and are available in your Purchases list". Please help me to reinstall it.

If new versions of iPhoto and the other iLife applications (iMovie and GarageBand) were purchased by the previous owner from the Mac App Store, then they will be locked to the previous owner's Apple ID and cannot be transferred to you. You will have to re-purchase them under your own Apple ID.
If this is an older MBA that came with Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Mac OS X, though, the system would have come with an installation disk that included the iLife applications, a disk which the seller should have provided to you. Those iLife applications would be older versions, of course, and may or may not work in Lion depending on how old they are.
    Regards.

  • How to delete an iMovie '09 project?

I have a project that I can't delete. I suspect it's corrupt. I've tried deleting my iMovie preference file and restarting iMovie but that doesn't help. Other projects can be deleted. Any pointers please?!
    Thanks,
    Fred

I have a project that I can't delete. I suspect it's corrupt. I've tried deleting my iMovie preference file and restarting iMovie but that doesn't help.
iMovie '09 scans the Project folder in a manner similar to the way it scans Event folders upon start up. If you can't delete the named_Project from within iMovie '09, try closing the application, removing the named_Project from the "iMovie Projects" folder, and then restarting the application. If all works correctly, the named_Project will have disappeared from your Project list and you can safely delete the project package using the normal Finder process of "trashing" the file.
(NOTE: If the file to be deleted is the last named_Project in your Project Library list, I would probably create a an new empty project before trying this work flow.)
