  • Delete Comments - Adobe Acrobat 9.0 - Problems.

We use Acrobat 9.0 for shared reviews using Lotus Notes. Recently on a shared review we have been getting messages after publishing comments and trying to exit the review. The first one reads.
"There are unpublished comments in the file.
You can publish them so that all reviewer can see them, save these comments as a private draft, or delete them."
    With these buttons:
[Publish Comments] [Save Draft] [Delete Comments] [Cancel]
To be on the safe side I select [Publish Comments]to be on the safe side.
Then when I try to exit the following dialog pops up in a box.
"The shared review document contains several comments from other reviewers that have not yet been published to the server. You can take ownership of the comments and publish them on behalf of the reviewers. Your name appears in the title bar of the comments and the original reviewer name appears in the body of the comment.
Do you want to publish these comments."
    This dialog has these buttons
    [Yes] [No]
I select [No] and so far there hasn't been a problem.
Other times this scenario goes on. This dialog box pops up with the following message.
"You have previously saved this file with unpublished comments. Click Publish Comments to automatically share these comments with other reviewers. Click save draft to keep them unpublished."
    With these buttons:
    [Publish Comments] [Save Draft] [Cancel]
I select [Publish Comments]. Which brings up the next dialog box with the following text.
"The document could not be saved. The file maybe read-only or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
This dialog box has just an [OK] button, which I choose which brings up
    this dialog box again.
"You have previously saved this file with unpublished comments. Click Publish Comments to automatically share these comments with other reviewers. Click save draft to keep them unpublished."
    With these buttons:
    [Publish Comments] [Save Draft] [Cancel]
The only way to close the document and get out of Acrobat is to choose [Save Draft.
My understanding on how this all is supposed to work is:
    Create a document for reveiw.
    Invite Reviewers to review.
Reviews post their own comments and publish them separately, without disturbing other reviewers and their comments or commenting.
When reviewers do not know what to do with all the above messages, my phone rings off the hook with what should I do questions, th
at I don't even know the answer to, much less why this is happening.
Then they are able to exit Acrobat.
I am running XP Pro, with three gig of memory on an IBM Think Centere, printing to a Toshiba printer.

I'm having a similar problem with comments posted "on behalf of" (on another post), but I did learn something that may help your problem about saving the file.  Before closing the file try publishing comments and then do File > Save first.  Then close Acrobat.  When I do this, Acrobat does not prompt to save and then force a Save As.
Acrobat does not seem to work as one would expect, and messages presented to the user are not informative enough.  Also, I have not been able to find documentation on the various messages that appear, and good troubleshooting instructions.
I hope this is an easy software fix.  The concept for shared reviews is great, and I want to use it.  But with a 500 page document, 3,500 comments, and dozens of reviewers, little problems waste a lot of time, money and energy.

  • How can I delete comment history by batch?

I am looking for the function of BPC Version 5.1 to delete the history of comments by batch.
On the WEB interface which refers for a comment list, I listed the history of the comment and chose the check box of the comment which should be deleted.
And then it is possible to delete selected comments.
    However,
when there are 100 comments, it is necessary to choose a check box 100 times.
This will be the operation which time and effort requires very much on actual business.
Are there any methods(as following) of deleting comments by batch?
    a) Is there any method of specifying DATA REGION and deleting comments of the specified range by batch?
    b) Is there any mode of operation which does not leave comment history (a comment is overwritten)?
    c) Is there any function to delete a comment history by batch processing (BPC Data Manager Packages)?
    Thank you in advance.
    Masashi Ashizawa

    Masashi,
Joost is correct that we may use a data manager package to clear comments in a batch process.  But I wanted to add that comments are not stored in the DB for any dimension combination, unless they are added using the Excel and Template interface, either by means of the Action Pane or an EVCOM statement.
All comments are independent, by user and importance. So each comment to an intersection is held, and I dont think that you can overwrite a prior comment, only delete the comment. WHen submitting a comment, if your EVCOM statement only has 4 of 7 dimensions identified, the comment is related to those 4 dimensions via the members in the EVCOM statement, even if they are PARENT levels. (unlike data which must be entered at the lowest dimension member levels)  Clearing the comments may also be achieved by using the BPC Excel interface Action pane which directs you to a comment web page where you can review, edit, and delete comments. But there is not a "Batch" deletion process inthe interface. I would suggest this to development as an enhancement.

  • Attempting to automate shared review with XI - deleted comments won't delete

We've been using the old/depricated browser based reviews for years.  We've integrated that process with several of our line of business apps.  The shared review process in XI is cumbersome to start for large groups of people from within acrobat, but we need the be able to use the shared review process in our workflows. (Looking at livecycle, but the pricing is jaw dropping.)
So we're attempting to inject the needed javascript into our pdfs to start the review process (using Delphi, with some Debenu components) .  We can do this successfully, but have noticed that deleting comments from the review are not actually deleting.
For example, using the following document level javascript in our test document:
    com.adobe.acrobat.SharedReview.Register
    (function () {if (app.viewerVersion >= 8 && (!app.viewerType.match(/Reader/) || requestPermission(permission.annot, permission.create) == permission.granted))
    {var msg = {doc: this, initiator: (new String("[email protected]")),
    id: (new String("7b68a5719741a54b9437a53f848e6588")),
    source: (new String("smb://loki/deptshare/information%20systems/temp/SR/brokefax0020-0020Copy_review.p df__7b68a5719741a54b9437a53f848e6588/")),
    driver: (new String("urn://ns.adobe.com/Collaboration/SharedReview/SMB")),
    invitees: (new String("[email protected]")),
    sentDate: (new Date(1373303925999)),
    deadDate: (new Date(1374476400963)),
    requireSave: (new Boolean(true)),
    cc: (new String("")),
    distributionMethod: (new String("UPLOAD")),
    versionInfo: (new Number(11.003)),
    accessLevel: (new Number(0))};
    Collab.registerReview(msg);}})()
will trigger the review, and accept comments from users, but if we attempt to delete any comments, and then publish those changes, the comments are coming back.
The comment XML file is indeed reflecting that the comment is deleted, but reopening the PDF shows the comments.
The comments are not being embedded into the pdf, as I've locked it with security to disallow editing the pdf.
I have noticed reading and writing to a file during the commenting process:
    C:\Users\kjohnson\AppData\LocalLow\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Synchronizer\resources
This is using Acrobat Pro 11.004 on Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 SP1. (both x86)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are going down a rabbit hole of sorrow and tears.  A couple of things about what you are attempting to do.
The JavaScript API that starts a Shared Review is undocumented.  It's not in the Acrobat SDK and if you run into problems you are pretty much on your own.  LiveCylce unfortunately is not a solution in this case either.  It has no Shared Review capability in it like it used to have for the old and deprecated Browser Based Review.

  • Deleting comments for multiple dimension member selection

    Hi all,
When using the package (using /CPMB/CLEAR) to delete data and comments (TASK(/CPMB/CLEAR_COMMENTS_FOR_CLEAR,ENABLETASK,1)), there seems to be a problem to delete comments when using a multiple member selection. When selecting <all> or a single dimension member for a given dimension, data and comments are effectively deleted. However, when selecting eg 2 members, the data is deleted, but the comments remain in the comment tables. Any ideas on how to solve this, without running the package x-times when comments on x members need to be deleted?
    Kind Regards,
    Christophe

    Hi,
I don't know whether your question is answered or not . Please look into the following which may be helpful to you.
As far as i know u can
    1. Delete Comments selecting " ALL" member selection.
    2. Delete comment selecting " SINGLE MEMBER "  --> _Multiple member selection is not supported in NW._
Please look into the following SAP Note on this which may be useful to convince the client:

Someone could help me about this problem? Thank you in advance..

I've found with facebook that you need to tap on the post to activate the links then you can do things, such as delete, etc. I haven't tried deleting a post, but if I want to comment or hide a post, I have to activate it first, then I can take action. I am using Facebook through safari if that makes a difference.

  • Delete comments iMovie 9.0.4

I am working on editing a home movie where I have added a large number of "comments" as a way to mark certain points. Now I want to delete them all & can only do so one at a time. Is there any way to delete them all at once?

    This is worth a try...
Click on a comment to select it. Then hold down the command key to select additional comments. Finally, hit the delete key, or right-click/Delete Selection.
Command-A will Select All, but that would select your video clips as well.

  • Deleting Comments & Stranded Annotations for 508 Compliance

We create PDFs and send them to different departments through Adobe's shared review system so that our editors and subject matter experts can make revision comments.  The Graphic Artists then make revisions and send the PDFs back through for more rounds of review. Each round of review may incur a multitude of comments and there is usually multiple rounds of review. In the end those files need to be 508 Compliant to deliver to our customers so prior to delivery we (GAs) must delete the comments. When we do that Acrobat leaves a stranded Popup and Text Annotation for each comment that was previously in the file. These annotations are not associated to any content in the file nor are they tagged in any way which causes the file to fail the 508 Accessibility Check. To remedy that we (the GAs) have to go in and delete each of those stranded annotations one at a time using the Select Object tool. Since we have so many rounds of review, and therefore many many comments, and therefore a lot of those stranded annotations that need to be deleted manually this takes a LONG time.
Using the PDF optimizer or the Preflight cleanup tool DOES get rid of all the comments and those stranded annotations but it strips out ALL the annotations in the file which means ALL the interactivity is gone. We lose all our hyperlinks and buttons which is obviously not going to work either.
So, my question is this: is there a way to remove ALL the comments from a PDF including their accompanying annotations WITHOUT removing all the interactive elements from a file?
BTW: I’m cross-posting this in the Accessibility AND the Commenting forums here on Adobe.com
    Thanks!

If you have Acrobat Pro XI, please check out the "Preflight" tool (Edit -> Preflight; or simply use the Cmd-Shift-X shortcut):
in Acrobat Preflight you have profiles, checks and fixups
in the fixups part search for "Remove all annotations", and duplicate this fixup (using the "Options" menu in the upper right of the Preflight window)
edit the duplicated fixup, and change the option for "Type" from "All" to "All commenting annotations", also make sure to adjust the name of the fixup accordingly
once done, run the fixup on one of your files
Please make sure to also execute the following two steps:
double check whether all those stray anotations are actually gone
double check that those annotations you want to keep are still there
Should any of these two not turn out to be exactly what you need, you may have to finetune the fixup setup (and possibly use several fixups to address annotation types in a more specific manner; should you end up with more than one fixup, you could combine them into a profile). If you have several fiels to clean up, you could also use a batch sequence, e.g. applying the fixup to all files in a given folder. Or you could create a droplet, put it on your desktop, and then drag'n drop your PDFs onto it to do the clean up.
    HTH.

  • ITunes 10 deleting comments

I am a DJ and I make use the comments in the ID3 tags, but iTunes 10 randomly deletes them. I'd say about 10% of the comments I leave get reset shortly after leaving them. Any ideas why this is happening?

    Hi MysticT,
If you are seeing your comments being deleted from the songs in iTunes 10, I would suggest updating your iTunes version to iTunes 12. See this page for the free download -

  • Deleted comments in forum (no explicit language)

This is ridiculous. My comment to particular question was deleted four times. I don't think there was something offensive. Just link to similar discussion and question. I can provide screenshots.

    Hi Puppy,
No, there wasn't anything offensive, just duplicate posts.
Posting duplicate posts in different areas of the Forum splits the discussion and makes it real hard to follow the replies and/or any solutions.  Any time we see duplicate posts, the duplicates are moved from public view.
