Deleting Completed Print Jobs in Mac OS X 10.8 ?

How can the job list of completed print jobs be deleted ?
The job list fills up with lots of completed and canceled (a 10.7./10.8 bug) jobs and many jobs are added multiple times after a time in the list untill closed and reopened again.
This makes it nearly impossible to find a specific job.
Thanks.

This isn't really a good solution, but the only way I found was to delete and re-add the printer. I didn't see anything obvious in the prefs files. Maybe send feedback to Apple about this?

  • Deleting Completed Print Jobs in Mac OS X 10.5

    Hello All,
On both my HP Officejet 7410 and Xerox Phaser 6200, after printing I am unable to delete the completed jobs from the Print Queue. The Delete functions are available, they just do not seem to work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

It would be easier to open up a Terminal and use lpq to show jobs and lprm to remove the jobs.
Something is wrong here. Completed jobs should not be in the queue and do not need to be deleted. I would be taking a look at the printer error log. Use Console.app or open up a Terminal and look at /var/log/cups/error_log.
Most MacIntosh users don't need and shouldn't use Terminal or type a command line instruction to do anything. If they did, they would go back to Windows, or why not just use some flavor of Linux for free? Terminal is there for those that want it, but none of my clients use a Mac because of it's Unix core.
Just about every command for Cups is available from the browser of choice. The error logs: http://localhost:631/admin/log/error_log
No typo's or Sudo's, easy to understand and demonstrate over the phone. The html interface is fairly simple and seems to be pretty powerful.
Want to play with the print server settings and be able to reset to the default with a click? http://localhost:631/admin?op=config-server
lpq shows my Laser printer on it's IP number, but it doesn't show my epson inkjet on my Airport Express print server. lprm only shows there are no active jobs on my laser (but not my inkjet), and doesn't show the completed jobs. I'm sure there are more alphabet commands I can run, but I just want to get the work done. Both of my printers do show up in Cups and I can work with both of them.
Bookmark Cups and all of the terminal commands for all the reports, settings and preferences are clearly presented.

  • How to clear completed print jobs in Leopard?

It is possible to clear completed print jobs in Tiger but I couldn't find it in Leopard now. I have a DELL 5100.

I have the same problem here. Sure you can use the "hide completed jobs" but that's not the point. The Delete job menu selection should do what it says it will but it doesn't.
Everyone has this problem. The workarounds given above are exactly that, workarounds.
This is a bug. If you say delete something and nothing happens (not even a warning telling you that you can't delete this item) then it's a bug.
OK, it's a bug. No one disputes that the Delete button not working is a bug.
As for going into the CUPS admin interface, that is way over what a general user should have to do. I know how to do that, but the point of using a Mac is that I shouldn't have to do such things.
This is debatable, but what's wrong with learning something new and having another workaround until Apple gets around to fixing this?
    This needs to be fixed.
Submit feedback to Apple about this issue, but they are probably already aware of it since it has come up before.

  • Deleting completed print queue

I am having a problem deleting the COMPLETED PRINT QUEUE from Preferences Print & Fax. I can delete the Active Queue, but haven't found how to delete the Completed Print Queue. I now have 3 years plus of Completed Print Jobs in the queue, and think some need to be deleted. Need help!

I wish I could give proper credit to whom educated me, but I don't remember who it was. Here is an excerpt of an email thread or discussions post thread that I retained that might be helpful to you:
    > where do the log files of completed print jobs and completed faxes reside?
They aren't stored in a "log" file per se. Each job's control data and status
    is stored in /var/spool/cups.
     > I'm wanting to develop a log rotation and archival scheme of these log
     > files to add to the /etc/periodic/monthly/500.monthly script, so these
     > printer and fax files do not tend to grow inordinately large.
Depending on your needs for log rotation, it might be much easier to just
specify the maximum number of job histories you want to keep. This can be
done via the cupsd.conf (/etc/cups/cupsd.conf) file. Look at about line 218
    for:
    # MaxJobs: maximum number of jobs to keep in memory (active and completed.)
    # Default is 500; the value 0 is used for no limit.
    #MaxJobs 500
Alternatively, you could turn off the option for keeping any history at about
    line 190:
    # PreserveJobHistory: whether or not to preserve the job history after a
    # job is completed, cancelled, or stopped. Default is Yes.
So this might give you a clue as to where to start pokin' around...

  • Deleting all print jobs on a computer with network accounts

In a school environment, we are using a network server with individual student accounts. Is there a way to delete all print jobs for all users on a given computer? I can reset print system and it only clears the print jobs for that single user.

System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
    Click: Open Print Queue
You should be able to delete print jobs from there.

  • I have an iMac, where are the completed print jobs stored on the iMac and what format are they?

I have an iMac,  where are the completed print jobs stored on the iMac and what format are they?
    My OSX is 10.10.1

    Hi
If you are using standard system or HP drivers, than the jobs contents are not saved at all.
You can see the list of completed jobs per printer via this URL: http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/
If you want to save a print job, you can do it in the print dialog, by selecting an action prom "PDF" popup.
It allows to save a job (prior or instead to printing it) as PDF or PostScript.

  • Canon C7055 Delete Secure Print Job

    Hi All,
I have an issue with a Canon C7055 in my company.
Last week we have "configured" Secure printing on every printer in the company.
Secure printing is working fine but as a normal user I can delete print jobs.
Could someone explain why this is possible?
I thought only an administrator could delete secure print jobs without password.
Is this a setting I can adjust?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jelle

I figured it out! I'm not sure if it will work for you but it did for me.
I went to the Canon website and then went to the support section. I then selected the Canon i960 Printer and attempted to download the most up to date printer driver. However, I had a problem. When I tried to click on the drop-down menu to select my OS the website wouldn't let me do it........I was running Safari on Leopard at the time.
I opened up FireFox and did the exact same thing hoping it was just a "Safari issue" but once again I couldn't click on the drop-down menu and get anything to show up. I did notice, however, that the drop-down box was highlighted. Once I had clicked on the drop-down menu I then hit the "M" button on my keyboard and it made the drop-down menu toggle between OS 9 and OS X. I selected OS X and then hit return. I then noticed that all of the driver information was listed below. I was able to click on the link to the driver (which appears to be pretty new......I think it said 11/7/07) and download it. Once I downloaded it, I then installed it and re-started my computer. Once my computer was restarted I went to my System Preferences and "added" my Canon i960 to my printer list (after I restarted my computer I made sure to turn on my printer before going into System Preferences). Once the printer was added I am now able to print without any problems at all!
Once I got past the hurdle of downloading the driver everything was pretty slick. I hope this helps cuz I know I was going nuts trying to figure this out.

  • Problems with stopped HP Print Jobs on Mac OS 10.5.

I have several Mac Stations with different Mac OS X versions (Mac OS X 10.5-10.7) and bought 2 HP Laser Printers:
    - HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw
    - HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw
After installing the HP Driver SW on all Mac Stations I changed then on the Printers the dynamic IP address to static ones. The printing didnt work anymore from the Mac Stations. I re-installed all Driver SW on every Mac Station. Then Printing worked on every Mac, except only on the Mac OS X 10.5. Station the Print Jobs were always stopped after any Print attempt.
This appeared on the Mac OS X 10.5. Machine in the Printer Spooler Job Message Window and within the error_log File content:
    - can't create PictWPSDoc from `/private/var/spool/cups/xxx'.ERROR during execution of pictwpstops. Error number -9783
As it seems like problems existed with file permissions I ran a complete Disk Utility File Permission Repair. Then another reinstall of the HP Driver Packages. - Still the same failures with stopping Print Jobs.
Then I read the README file of the Installation Package. And the quite simple solution was:
DE-INSTALL the HP Driver SW FIRST (with the HP Deinstallator), BEFORE RE-INSTALLING the HP Driver SW again.
So I did this, then no Print Jobs were stopped anymore and both Printer are happily printing.
The conclusion is, I guess, Mac 10.6..10.7 does not have problem with multiple re-installation of the HP driver SW. Only the Mac OS 10.5. did NOT work anymore after another reinstall of the Driver SW Package, and without de-installing it properly. The bottom line is to de-install the driver SW (and maybe disk repair) properly BEFORE another insallation wants to be done. This however solved my printing problems on the Mac OS X 10.5. machine.

  • Print file deletes before print job is finished

I have been trying to print a file about 119 pages it has some color graphics and some photos within the text from adobe it printed about 25 pages good then it stopped and deleted the file I have tried to print 1 page at a time some print and some just print the first few lines of text then a blank page comes out and then it prints the same text on another page and the file is deleted no error messages of any kind I have tried shutting down the printer and restarting it . I have also done the print and scan dr from HP and it found nothing the text page printed fine. If I open the printer box I can see it spool the file it starts to print and the above happens and then I see it deleting the file. I am also printing wireless from my home network. I hope this give you enough information. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi @ssward4,
Do large print jobs from other programs produce the same result? What happens when you print a smaller job from Adobe? I understand you have already run the HP Print and Scan Doctor but the issue remains, and you have checked the spooler.

  • PSC 1350 all-in-one not completing print jobs wirelessly with windows 7 64 bit

I have a acer 5542 running windows 7 (64bit), connected wirelessly to an Orange Livebox hub, to which my HP PSC 1350 printer is connected (via USB cable) therefore using the Livebox as a USB printer server. This configuration has worked very well for my 2 XP laptops for the past year or two. I set up the printer on the windows 7 laptop by connecting it directly, via the USB cable, letting windows install it, and download the latest drivers, (although HP say they have no specific 64bit drivers for this printer, but the drivers they have, and that windows downloaded, work fine!) then i changed the port to the livebox ip address.
All this worked fine (as on the xp machines), I printed out a spreadsheet, which worked fine untill it approached the end of the page, then just stopped. I troubleshot the printer which didnt return any sprcifics, Just that the print job had failed, and that it had rectified the problem, then the printer starts reprinting the same document, to the same point, (about 95% complete) and again stalls, and so the cycle continues. I have tried it with various different documents and photos, to the same ends. But if i connect the laptop directly to the printer, via USB, it completes the jobs fine
I have posted on microsoft answers forums, but the one answer i have recieved (re installing everything) did not solve the problem. Although i am not too savvy on computers, i kind of get the feeling it is a spooling issue. (not processing or holding onto the last part of a print file! But its only a feeling!)
any help would be very much appreciated

    Hi there,
I understand you're looking for drivers for your PSC 1210 on Windows 7. I will certainly do my best to guide you in this issue.
At this time there are no HP drivers available for this printer for Windows 7. You can still use the printer with Windows 7, you will just have to use the drivers available within Windows 7. That document will walk you through what you need to do in order to get printing again, and will also show you how to scan with this Windows driver.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Where is the list of active and completed print jobs stored?

I am using an Apple LaserWriter 8500. Great network printer still.
In the printer window it has a list of jobs to be printed and another tab for jobs completed.
    Where are these lists stored?

The hidden file /var/logs/cups/page_log contains some of this information. You can look at this log via the Console application in Utilities. However, it does not look like it contains all the data that you see in the print queue Active/Completed views.
Also, print jobs that are active are kept in the hidden folder /var/spool/cups/
Is there a particular job you are looking for?

  • 10.4.6 server: print jobs vanish (mac & pc)

    setup:
    - private network (192.168.1.1/24)
    - 1 mac os x server, 1 lpd printer with static addresses
    - 1 mac os x client, 1 winxp client with dhcp addresses (from router)
    services on server:
    - afp (for network homedirectories, mac only)
    - open directory (for network users, mac only)
    - print and windows (for print server, mac and pc)
    config:
the server connects to the printer via the lpd protocol and accepts print jobs to the queue via appletalk, ipp and windows printing.
    problems:
    1) jobs sent via appletalk or windows printing vanish. they appear as sent on the client's print queue but never appear on the server's queue nor the logfile. jobs sent via ipp work, though.
    2) adding a "networked printer" on windows xp doesn't work. the "wizard" sees the print server and his queues but upon adding a queue refuses to connect to it, citing some access rights problems.
    questions:
    1) has anyone successfully connected from winxp to the print server and managed to print a document?
    2) how?
thanks a lot for your time,
    raoul schaffner.
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think if you're providing SMB printing it is spooled through SAMBA and the /var/spool/samba folder. What the server is using to print to the printer is secondary.
And beware of the not using any Administrator account on the Windows box for printing. Might also be other permissions problems acting up.

  • Psc 950 won't complete print job

Printer intermittently produces partial print jobs, sometimes 3 lines, sometimes more or all.  After clearing the error and cancelling the job, the behavior is still the same.  Sometimes restarts and prints the complete job while ('m checking my email.  I reinstalled the driver, get the same goofiness.  (Windows 8 and Toshiba laptop.)

    Hi @Bob-H,
Since there is not full feature software and driver, and you are using the Windows built in solution, we can't uninstall ad reinstall. We can however try an alternate print driver to see if you can print more constantly with a different driver.
To assign an alternate print driver in Windows 8:
Hold your mouse arrow in the lower right, or upper right, corner of the screen to bring up the Charms Bar.  If you are using a touch screen, you can swipe your finger from the right side to the left.
    Select the Search Charm.
Under the search box, click on Settings.
In the search box, type Devices.
    Click on Devices and Printers.
    Right-click on your printer.
    Select Printer Properties.
    Click on the Advanced tab.
    Click on New Driver.
    Click Next.
Select HP from the first list.
Select HP Deskjet PCL3 Class Driver from the second list.  You can also use either the Photosmart PCL3 class Driver, Officejet PCL3 Class Driver, Deskjet 990c or Deskjet 450 driver.
    Click Next.
    Click Finish.
Click Apply to save the changes.
Click OK to close the window.

You can also try the Windows troubleshooter. A troubleshooter is an automated tool that can find and automatically fix some problems with your PC. The printing troubleshooter can fix problems with installing and connecting to a printer.  (Fix printer problems)
