Deleting Discussions Account

I find it highly irritating that I am prohibited from deleting my Discussions account.
My Discussions alias is my full name, and I do not wish for search engines to associate me with the forum.
Can customer service remove my account for me over the phone, or is there any other way?

Hi Rod!
Although you can't change the Alias of the account you are using, you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
But your Level(0), Points(0), Total Posts(2), Total Posts Online(2) and Registered Date(12/3/05), will not be transferred.
In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
After you quit using the old account, those posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 1 to 3 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
To create a new account,
Log out of Discussions. You also may have to delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences, but I'm not sure this is necessary. Then follow either of these instructions.
-How Do I Create My Account?
If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
-To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple ID FAQ page.
Those instructions, and more info, can also be viewed by clicking on ?Help & Terms of Use, in the right column of Discussions pages.

Is there a way to delete my account with Apple Support Communities without deleting my Apple ID.
I use my Apple ID for iTunes but for this forum, I had to create a username "LoverInJapan" which I am not fond of and want to get rid of, plus I don't use Discussions anyway.
When I log into my iTunes account, I don't see this username anywhere, so I'm assuming the name "LoverInJapan" is only attributed to Discussions... and I hate this name.
    any help?
    Thanks.

I've posted here about twice in the last 3 years, so I assume I'll need to again in the future. And when I do, I'll have the same username.
Since you are willing to have this account deleted (which can not be done), you should be willing to abandon it (which can be done).
All you need to do to accomplish that is to create a new account and assign to it a username of your choice - it can not be the username you are using now since no two usernames can be the same. This new account would apply only to Apple Support Communities; it would not afffect other Apple accounts, such as one for iTunes or the Apple Store.
You will need to use a different password and email address in order to create a new account. If you happen to have a MobileMe account, it offers the ability to generate an alias email address - an address which appears to be different than your 'real' one, but one which still works; any amil sent to it will appear in your MobileMe's inbox. Some other email providers offer similar services.
Why is this not an option? I don't think it's asking too much to change a personal detail.
The Hosts have indicated that changing a username on an account is not an easy thing to do, even when or if possible - under the last forum software (which changed a month or so ago) it could not be done at all.
I suspect that if you or I, or even Apple, had designed and written the software used here, things would be a lot different.
In case you're not aware of this, the forum software used to run ASC is not an Apple product; it is a commercial product from Jive, named Jive SBS. As such, the Apple Hosts (who serve as Sysops and moderators) are limited by how the software was written.

  • How do I delete an Apple discussion account?

I am wondering if you can delete one of your Apple discussion account, so that the username is not longer active for that account.

Moderators can delete the account, but usually do not (you can just let it idle and die).  They usually do not delete *all* of the threads you started, but can edit some that you feel have personal information.  If you want every response you posted deleted, that is all but impossible.

  • Please delete my Discussions account

Assuming deleting my Discussions account will not affect my use of my AppleID in iTunes or in the online Apple Store or in MobileMe, I make the following request:
Having grown tired of the relative uselessness of these forums, random TOU enforcement, and the random deletion of posts for seemingly whimsical reasons (if anything), I request to have my Discussions account deleted as I don't intend to post here again unless more uniform TOU enforcement is employed. These forums are the weakest component of the Apple user experience and have grown less useful to me since I became an Apple user in 2002. If you have a TOU, it needs to be uniformly enforced and not randomly so based on a moderator's mood or attitude. Apple should have higher standards.
    Thank you.

    Joe,
We do strive to enforce the terms of use fairly and employ human judgment as opposed to a robotic black and white interpretation. We respect your decision to leave the community but we will not remove your account or its content. Questions and answers posted here are for the benefit not only of the participants, but for the rest of the Apple community. If you ever decide to rejoin the community, your account and status level will remain intact.

  • How can I delete / create a new Discussions Account?

I would like to change my user name.  It appears that can't be done.
I'd like to delete my account and start over.  It appears that can't be done.
I'd like to create an additional account using my same Apple ID.  It appears that can't be done.
If there's something I'm missing here, please advise.  Otherwise I hope the admins will consider (re-consider?) what is I'm sure an annoyance for others as well.
    Thanks.

No it can't.  This should work - Try using another browser to set up a new account.  After you do that (if it works), go back to your favorite browser & enter your new account information.

cannot receive or send email from my hotmail account, refuses to verify server. I have changed my password, deleted the account numerous times, any solutions? all on ios 6. it was working up until a few days ago and now refuses to load on both my ipad 2 and iphone 4S
in the process deleted all my contact, very annoying.
    all help is much appreciated.
interesting that my gmail account does work perfectly.

this may or may not help - but give it a try.  On a forum some were reporting that talk21 is now under the yahoo umbrella.  below are the steps this use listed.  (This was an android forum, but the email settings should be the same.  In short it looks like their server names have changed.  An existing account may have simply been forwarded - but if you are reinstalling, it may want a clean install to the right servers.)  Pay particular attention to the server names and port settings.  (this thread was started based on a discussion of Imap vs pop - you are already an Imap person - so ignore that part)
    See if this helps.
why settle for pop3, when IMAP works with talk21 and not only does mail get pushed out faster with IMAP, but when you click refresh it will be received faster than pop3.  The other advantage is subfolders are also supported with IMAP but cant be seen with POP3. This mail feature works with my android eclair & hero phone and the settings are exactly the same for win mobiles also (not tested). The mail setting up roadmap is the same from what i can remember once in the mail feature for win mobi.
This is what you need to do to setup Talk21 email with IMAP.
    Incoming server settings
    IMAP server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port - 143
    Security type - none
    Outgoing Server settings
    SMTP server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    Port - 25
Security type - none Also important note - Enable 'require sign-in'
and enter your talk21 username and password The End...works a treat for me p.s. Its only taken me 3 years to work it out with win mobile and recently with android. Finally got it to work...hope this helps all the talk21 users out there. if there are any other similar posts out there with no answer...dont forget to mention my name when passing this post around.

  • I changed my Apple ID that using an invalid email address to a new one and I am trying to update iCloud account on iPhone5 with iOS 7.1.2, and I am not able to delete iCloud account without the old password.

I changed my Apple ID that using an invalid email address and I am trying to update iCloud account with my new Apple ID on iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2. I am not able to delete iCloud account without the old password. Is there a way to update the Apple ID of my iCloud account?

Many people are having probalems with this right now.  The only solution I've seen that seems to consistently work is the one posted by Brackers28 here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23020591#23020591.  This only works if you still have access to your old email account.  If you don't, you'll have to have Apple help you reset the password for your old account so you can turn off Find My iPhone and sign into your account with your correct ID.

  • TS3899 I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 6 and now I can't get my work e-mail anymore.  I've tried deleting the account and re-adding, per other forum suggestions, and still no luck.  Also, there is no longer an "Advanced" section to enter information.

Help!  I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 6 and now one of my two emai accounts - my work account - no longer receives/sends emails.  I checked my e-mail settings and they were correct.  I then deleted the account and tried to re-add it, per discussions in other forums, and it won't verify the account.  In addi tion, there was previously an Advanced section in the e-mail account setting, and now there isn't - don't know if that is part of the probem and the phone needs additional information that it's not asking for anymore . . . I'm beyond frustated.  Many hours of lost productivity.  Any suggestions?  Can I got back to the previous version?  I was thinking of buying new phone in next few months, but if this is resolved I'm leaving Apple.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • HT204266 How can I delete my account permanently?

I want to permanently delete my icloud account, because every time I tried to download apps onto my iPad,  a message kept popping up and every time I verify my payment information, like I'm asked to do, it keeps saying that it was declined and it's not....please help!

The best option to go with is to contact the iTunes team via express lane and discuss your issue with them, as their may be some sort of billing block on your appleID, or the credit card has been banned, or any possible other reasons. The best thing to do is to try to resolve the issue
If you're really, truly, completely, irreversibly insistent on deleting your account, you can go to http://apple.com/privacy/contact, click on "privacy issues" and put through a request to have your account deleted. If approved, this will completely and irreversibly delete your appleID, iCloud data, purchase history, etc

  • Can't log or delete Facebook account from settings in ios 7

Hello yesterday my sister wanted to unblock my mom from Candy crush so she deleted my facebook acount from settings so she can log with her account and use Candy Crush with her own profile. After that i deleted her account and wanted to put my own again, here is where the error started: when i put my mail / password for facebook and hit "return" a message appear "Error signing In , could not communicate with the server", even so i cant enter another email or retype my email or anything since in settings this message appear: "There was a problem accessing your account. Please reenter the password for <my facebook user name> " with the field for password below , also the delete button doesnt work. Every time i put the password the singning in error appear . Now i cant use any app that use facebook features which is really annoying since most online apps use facebook account to log in.
    i have tryed:
Deleting the app, which doesnt make sense since i don't need the app to log with facebook to another apps.
How they solved in thie thread : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24292852#24292852
Quit the .settings app and reset the iPad.Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. Nothing has worked so far, i hope you guys fix this soon i cant use must of my apps right now :/ at least with facebook .
PD: i can log in trough facebook app but no setting so i can't use my facebook in other apps.

    I have found a solution.
You need to use Keychain Access on OS X. In the sidebar select iCloud. You can locate the entry by searching for the part after the @ in the email address of that entry. Right click it. Select "Delete". It will be deleted from that machine as well as any other device synced with iCloud keychain.
I did this in Mavericks, but it should work on Yosemite as well.
As far as I know there is yet no way to do this in iOS.
    I filed a radar as well rdar://18835323
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with my discussions account

    Hello,
I logged out of my primary discussions account and now I can't log on back. I try entering my apple ID and then it pushes me through to the "select a name for your account". This is where i'm stuck. Can anyone help me log on to my support account?

You have to delete the old account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I can't access my old Apple ID, can you please delete the account or posts?

I can't access my old Apple ID. Before the big account switching, I naively posted my email in a post in a topic here a while back.
Now it comes up in search results and I don't want to attract any spam. I want to either remove this old account or at least wipe some of the posts I made under the name. Not sure where else I can possibly post this question, totally apologize if it appears rather rude.
    Thanks,

  • Help: Can't delete email account in OSX Mail

I have verizon.net email account that I had to update because verizon changed the incoming and outgoing servers.
Each of my family members has a separate profile on my Mac and I was able to successfully update their settings.
I have the admin account. No matter what I do, I can't get the new server settings to stick in MacOSX Mail.
So I tried to delete the email account via System Preferences. When I relaunch Mail or System Preferences, the account is stil there. When I try to delete the account from within Mail, I get an error message:
Account removal failed with error: “The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to find an account for the UID given.”.
You can try deleting the account from the “Internet Accounts“ preference pane in System Preferences.
I even tried the steps in this thread using Terminal:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23824890#23824890
I even tried deleting the account in my Library preferences.
    No luck.
I had this problem on my 17" MacBook Pro. I just migrated to a Retina MacBook Pro using a Time Machine backup. Same exact problem. I'm thinking there's some bizarro preference thingy that is buried somewhere that needs to be removed.
Yes, I ran disk utility as well.
    Help me please!

After closing mail I used a plist editor and edited:
    /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist
    (as always TAKE A BACKUP)
I removed all key pairs to the offending account.
    Voila.
    Removed.
