Deleting duplicate podcasts

I have a huge library of podcasts that has an many duplicates in it. I want to delete the duplicates, but here are the problems:
1. When I look at the podcasts in a smart playlist, the duplicates appear next to each other, but highlighting one and hitting delete does nothing, and right-clicking on it does not give a delete option.
2. When I look at the Podcasts section of the Library, I the Podcasts are sorted by broadcast date (they are radio shows). The column that would be Name in the Music section simply says Podcasts, and you can't sort by that. Therefore, I cannot get the duplicates to appear next to each other, so I really can't tell what I have duplicates of.
3. Show Duplicates (under the View menu) does not work in Podcasts as it does in Music.
I hope I am missing something--am I?

Clarification: In Smart Playlists, there is a Name column by which the Podcasts can be sorted. That's why it is easy to have the duplicates appear next to each other.
I can make them appear together without being able to delete them, or I can have the ability to delete them without being to easily see which are duplicates.

  • Duplicate Podcasts and iTunes U Podcasts

Does anyone know how I can search for and delete duplicate podcasts? the File>Display Duplicates option only seems to be available for Music files.

If you cannot get your audio books to play on your 4th gen shuffle, hit play. While songs are playing hold down your VOICE OVER button until you hear names of songs and keep holding it. When you hear the title of your audio book or podcast you wish to hear release the VOICE OVER button. Hit PLAY one time. I spent 50+ minutes with apple support & they were finally able find out about the VOICE OVER button. Wish that was on the directions in the first place.

  • My itunes has created a duplicate podcast folder. How can I delete this? I can't sync my podcasts to my ipod because there are now two Podcast folders.

How do I delete the duplicate podcast folder? Because there are two podcast folders it is stopping my ipod nano from syncing when i plug it in.  I have searched the libraries on the hard drive but this extra podcast folder can't be found.

I have figured out a workaround that may work for you.  It doesn't address the cause of the problem but it has gotten me past the problem.  Note: Mac OSX
    1.  Make note of all of the podcasts that you currently have in each of your folders.  You will need this to get back to your current position if you choose.
2a.  Right click on the first of the two folders named Podcast.  (Command Click, two-finger tap, as appropriate.)  Delete should appear as an option.  Select it.  All of the contents and subscriptions in that folder will be lost.
On my system, Delete appeared as an option only on the first of the two folders named Podcast.
2b.  I deleted the contents of the second folder but, in retrospect, I don't think that was necessary.
    3.  You should now be left with just one Podcast folder.
    4.  Go to the iTunes store and resubscribe or download the podcasts you wish to restore.  All of the podcasts should appear in the one remaining podcast folder.  When I hit refresh to check, it did not crash this time.
    5.  Sync to your ipod.  I got a warning message about the mismatch, said ok and let the sync proceed.  It appears to have worked, as it did on my ipad.
Messy but it worked.  Hope it helps both you, evechoc and ifan94.
    Good luck!

  • How do I delete old podcasts and sync new podcasts without getting duplicates

I  have an iPod Nano.  I've enjoyed downloading podcasts and listening to them while walking my dog.  I want to delete the podcasts I've already listened to and download only those I haven't heard.  If I delete old podcasts, will iTunes be able to identify and download only podcasts I haven't listened to?

You don't have to use the Podcasts app.  If you delete it and sync to iTunes on your computer via USB the podcasts will appear back in the Music app.  You can delete them there.

  • Itunes Crashes - Duplicate Podcast Libaries

I have a problem where itunes created a new unwanted 'podcast library'.
Now when I try to update or refresh any podcasts in the original 'podcast library', itunes crashes.
I have a mac mini powerpc G4 operating osx 10.5.8. My version of itunes is 10.6.3.
Here is what happened: I suscribed to a new podcast from an internet browser while itunes was closed.
When itunes opened I found that it had created a second  'podcast library' (visible above the previous 'library' on the top left-hand side of itunes).
I also noticed that the small highlighted oval which lists the number of podcast episodes had disappeared from the old 'podcast library'.
When I try to update or refresh a podcast from the existing 'podcast library', itunes now crashes. However, I can still listen to old podcasts.
I tried to manualy delete the new 'podcast library' by going to my itunes Library Folder, but found that there is only one folder named 'podcasts' and it is the original one. I tried re-installing itunes 10.6.3 but the unwanted 'podcast library' still appeared.
Has anyone had this problem before? Is there any way to delete a duplicate podcast library that itunes created?
Thank in advance for your help!

Thanks Terrell - I have reported it this morning to Apple, however they advise also to insert the tag so it blocks it from itunes, but Ive already deleted the feed from feedburner - Is this ok?

  • How can i delete duplicates from my itunes account?

At "View" I chose "Show duplicates."
Now what do I do to delete duplicates quickly without having to delete each one separately?
    THanks

    Hello, singinheart.
Thank you for the question.  Since you have already identified the duplicate media you just have a couple more steps to go.  This article outlines the remainder of the steps in order to mass delete the duplicates.

  • How do I delete a podcast icon from my iphone?

I'm somewhat Mac and iphone saavy and have looked all over the Net and these forums for an answer.  No dice! Let's see what you guys got:  I have deleted some podcasts from iTunes that I don't want to see anymore and the icon has stayed on my iphone. They don't show up anywhere in iTunes, but insist on hanging around in the podcast list on my phone. How do I get rid of these???  There is no swipe ability since there are no podcast recordings, just the icons.

Open your podcast app and swipe down on the screen, it will expose the search box and the edit button.

    image-4150105251.jpg.
image-3750165159.jpgTap the edit button and an x appears at the upper left of each podcast icon. Tap the x, and the podcast disappears.
image-2045823971.jpgI tapped the X on the right hand podcast and it's now gone.
When you're finished editing, tap the done button.

  • How do you delete duplicate tracks off your playlist?!

How do you delete duplicate tracks off your playlist - everytime I connect my hard-drive it adds another of every single track - argh!!!!
I remember there being a 'delete duplicate tracks' option on a much older version of itunes - is this still available and if not if you opt for the 'consolidate library' option will this automatically save to you computer as I have too much music for my laptops memory capacity! On top of that how can I stop this issue from contantly re-occuring everytime I connect my hard-drive?! Apologies if im being thick here.... xX*laura*Xx

You are doing something wrong, iTunes doesn't add tracks to the library unless you ask it to, so there is a problem somewhere in your workflow which is creating the duplicates. For example, having iTunes set up to "Copy files to the iTunes Media folder when adding to library" and then repeatedly adding in a folder from an external drive would do it.
Once you've worked out how to stop creating new duplicates you can look at the issue of deduping what you already have. See this recent post for some thoughts and a script that may prove useful.

  • How do you delete duplicate songs in your library without having to delete each song individually??

How do you delete duplicate songs in your library without having to delete each song individually?

    mauijiminar wrote:
Go to iTunes, select view and click show duplicates. Hold control and A ( select all) and then delete.
Not a good idea! The "show duplicates" feature shows "all" duplicate tracks, but you only want to delete the "extra" copies, not the "originals".
I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background, including how to delete the extra tracks manually if you prefer.

  • How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?

    Greetings!
After importing my 300 or so CDs into iTunes, I found I have tons of duplicate songs.
Example: I have a song that came in a original album, then in again in a "Greatest Hits" album, then again in a "Hits of the 80's" album, and again in a soundtrack album. I have now have 4 copies of the exact same song.
How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums back to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?
I don't think this currently exists, but as my library keeps growing the duplicates keep growing.  It would be nice if Apple sees this and adds a way to link songs to multiple albums.
I don't want to create a custom playlist for every album that has a duplicate song or two (I'd have dozens of playlists) - thought about fixing it that way but not really practical.

To my knowledge, there is no way of doing what you want. The only workaround is to create playlists for the other albums containing the track, but that isn't practical for most people.

  • When I delete a podcast from one of my devices it deletes that podcast and all of its episodes from my iPhone 5/iPhone 4 (used as an iPod) and from my MacBook automatically. Is there a way to delete a podcast from one device?

I would like to delete a podcast and its episodes from one device without it being deleted simultaneously from all of my devices. I have been having problems with podcasts for months.
Another problem with podcasts I'm having is once I sync some of the podcasts from my computer to my iPhone 5, they are not present on my iPhone. I can find them in spotlight on the iPhone 5 but when I click on them to play them it opens up the podcasts app but then does nothing. When I have iTunes open even iTunes show that they are present "On this Phone" but I have no way to play them. I took my devices to the geinus bar and the support technician was baffled.
    Any help would be appreciated.
