Deleting Duplicates - Apple dropping the ball for almost 11 years now.
I have searched extensively on this "knowledge" base, but the "genius"es here have had no meaningful input. Just the hollow suggestions that:
1: I sort the files by date added and simply delete the later files, silly. Answer: No.
2. I go through one by one and CTRL(apple) click every other file through 3900 DUPLICATE FILES. Silly. Answer: No.
3rd, and most helpful: Get third party software to implement what should be a relatively simple simple fix to an Apple-created problem(iTunes is the reason for all the duplicate files in the first place).
If anyone else has a Gem they want to throw at me, please do. I was on the verge of buying an iPhone when I was reminded what an utter piece of crap iTunes is.
Side note: How do I get rid of the "Album by Artist" column in iTunes? It is redundant and has no utility in a music browsing program. Also, I should just be able to get rid of it if I want to. But Apple says I can't. Typical.
iTunes will only create duplicate files if, in essence, you tell it to. A particular combination of its import settings and the way you add music to the application are required in order to create a problem.
I've discussed some of the issues in this recent thread and written a script called DeDuper which can help tidy up.
As to the Album by Artist column this is the Album column in one of three modes Album, Album by Artist or Album by Artist/Year. Simply turn off the Album column and it will disappear. As to its utility I guess that is a matter of opinion, but I generally have it as my sort column. See Grouping tracks into albums for details.

I have had my MacBook Pro for almost 4 years now. How do i perminantly delete deleted files?
Your situation is not good, then. You will need to erase your hard drive and start anew. Boot from your installer DVD for the OS X version you have installed on it.
I hope you have backups because it's not likely you can backup at this point.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc. Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key. Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current. -
This is ridiculous I've had my iPhone 5 for almost a year now, and just today while I'm scrolling through Instagram, my phone decides to restart..I thought okay, maybe it has something to do with iOS 7. But of course it didn't, and when the phone awakened it showed my regular background. In the middle of the screen was a notification that said "Activiation required" and I thought "Wow, that's weird." So, I swiped, unlocked my device and it brought me to a screen asking me to connect to wi-fi, so I did. then, the nest screen showed me a thing that said "This iPhone is currently linked with d******@yahoo.com. Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone." Now, that e-mail is the same one I used to activate and set my iPhone up with so I'm at a loss here. I tried calling and calling Apple but the phones are backed up as usual.
And it brings me to a screen that keeps saying try again later becuase the activation server is temporarily unavialable? I don't get this.

Apple dropped the ball with the iphone
ok first of,f I am a apple whole, I love their products period! I purchased the iPhone when it came out... Yes i was one of those dudes who waited on line to get my hands on it. (enjoyed doing it also) My only beef with apple & At&t is they dont offer any Insurance for the phone which is sorta un-heard of from a cell phone company...
People paid 500 to 600 for this great device and they deserve to get insurance on it at&t offers insurance for all there other phones whats up with that? Its things like this that gives apple a major black eye when it comes to the iPhone!
If anyone know how to get insurance for the iPhone let me know please!Yes, first of all stop the hysterics and get a grip.
If you want insurance that badly you have 2 choices:
1) insure it thru your renters/homeonwers policy
2) Get an apple care agreement for the iphone here

The chicken little "the sky is falling" crap is a waste of energy -
the title says all
Did you try to reset your device by pressing the sleep and home button for about 10 sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose any data doing a reset.
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here: iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore

I've been having this issue for a few days and I don't know wether or not I should just get a new phone or if i can fix it
Hello there, babydoll1022.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting the unexpected power off issue you're describing:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Particularly:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Additionally, this article on multitasking offers some good information and steps for troubleshooting the issues with applications:
iOS: Understanding multitasking

If an app doesn't respond to your input, or doesn't perform as expected, do the following, testing after each step:
Check for app updates.
Force the app to close.
Restart your device.
Update your iOS device.

Solved!
Go to Solution.Check Windows Device Manager for yellow cautions for all BB and Rim Drivers and try to update if so, try to update anyway if no cautions.
If the above does not help you should uninstall all drivers for BB or RIM listed in Device Manager, click View on the Menu in Device Manager then Show hidden devices.
The drivers are usually found in these places, BlackBerry, Disk drives, DVD/CD, Modems (Standard modem only), Network Adapters, Ports.
Once all are uninstalled unplug your phone if it was plugged in and power OFF your computer (not restart), power ON your computer and wait 5 to 10 minutes before plugging in your phone.
Once you plugin your device wait another 10 min. before doing anything, BB software is slow and Windows is slow to recognize it so time is needed for drivers to install properly. -
for some reason the program out of the blue is asking for a serial number and activation. I can't find the case anymore. does anyone have a way I can contact adobe directly to see if they can help me solve this problem.
Everywhere I look points me back to the forum or troubleshooting menus.
thanksIt may think you have a different computer if you've changed some of the hardware recently.
Did you purchase the software as a download or register it with Adobe? If so, your serial number may be available from them directly. Click first the red A logo at the top of this page, then drill down through [Manage Account] to see the products they have on file for you.
If you've physically lost your serial number and never registered it with Adobe, it's like losing a wad of cash on the street. You're responsible for holding onto your valuables and no one's going to step up and replace it for you.
The Creative Cloud Photographer's Bundle subscription package is still available for $9.99 a month, as far as I know.

I have tried to get a magazine subscription D/L on my IPAD without success for almost a year now. I called the mag company and they had some tech difficulties but I have never received my subscription. I asked for my $19.99 back they told me to contact Itunes. How do you do that?? Itune sent me email today asking to renew subscription period for another year. How do I tell them that I am not getting this subscription. Can anyone give me some advice please?
There are instructions on this page for managing and stopping auto-renewing subscriptions : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4098
If you are looking for a refund for your existing subscription then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will refund or credit you : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption -
So I've had my iPhone 4 for almost a year now and I've never faced this problem. I cannot access the app store because it isnt on my phone.
Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com. Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.

My MacBook Air is making a clicking noise every 7 seconds for 2 seconds. It started today, and I have had the computer for almost a year. It is below the power switch and annoying enough that it is hard to even work with the computer. It sounds as if a hard drive is trying to work. No applications running. Ideas?
If its a MBA with solid state drive then I would guess its the fan touching something ???. I think it have no other moving parts.

Mac has been crashing for almost a year
Hello, community!
I have a Macbook Pro 15" version 10.6.8, and I've had it for almost 2 years now. Given to me by my school (SAIC) in Chicago, it came preloaded with all of the Adobe programs and TimeMachine, too.
Starting last September or so, my laptop has been crashing randomly. Sometimes it crashes when I only have one window open (such as Skype, iTunes or Chrome, etc), and sometimes it crashes when I have a lot of things open. Or...Sometimes, after rebooting it from a crash, I'm just waiting for my desktop to load and it'll crash. No matter the content, it'll crash with the screen suddenly turning black, and if I have any audio playing, the aduio skips while the screen is black. The only way to get rid of it is to hit the power button and hold it until the sound stops and my computer makes the sound it does when it turns off.
I've been given an error message each time I reboot it, saying "your computer crashed unexpectedly" or something, and gives me this whoooole detailed report of things I can't understand. (I can offer this error message if anyone wants it).
I gave it to my school to fix, and they said that my fan was melted, they took it for about 4 weeks, giving it to Apple to fix and they gave it back to me saying that it should be fine. Of course, 3 hours of having it back, it crashed again with the exact same symptoms. I thought it was my 4gb RAM, so I upgraded to 8gb, but it still crashed after that. I've defragmented and repaired my disk permission, but nothing seems to work, still.
Anyone have any advice or any questions for me that'll help them help me figure out what's up?Backup your files.
