Deleting Empty Folders from Library

When I first got Lightroom I uploaded a random bunch of folders of images. Now I wish to upload everything (which I have put into a single folder) so that I can retain the hierarchy of folders within folders that I have developed for storing my work on a dedicated hard drive.
I therefore selected all of these random folders of images and removed them from the Library (it took 45 minutes). But now I find that while all of the image files have been removed, all of the empty folders that contained them are left in the "Folders" folder in the library.
My question is, how can I remove all of these empty folders prior to uploading my hierarchical folders of files? In other words, how can I start over again from scratch? (I have upgraded to Lightroom 1.1)
Thank you.

Thank you all for your suggestions. What I finally did was to right-click, as suggested by Mel, on each folder (it wouldn't work for me when I selected them all) and select "delete" from the resulting drop-down menu. It took awhile, as there were a lot of the buggers, but now I'm clean and ready to go!
Again, thanks.

  • Can't delete empty folders from NAS

    Hi all
I have Mac Book Pro running Mavericks, and a WD World Book running as a NAS on my private network.
Recently, I've been restructuring my files and folders on both my mac and hard drive.
Having moved a large number of files across from the HD to my Mac, I now have a load of empty folders on my HD that I cannot seem to get rid of!
I have tried all the usual things, and also the rm -r command but to no avail. It says that the folder does not exist!
One other strange thing that is happening on the HD, when I 'Get Info', the top username in permissions is just saying 'fetching' and never resolves.
    Does anyone have any suggestions??
Let me know if you need more info
    Thanks in advance

Yes, it one of the problems you can encounter using Launchpad at the moment. You can try to drag another app in the folder and empty the folder again. Sometimes that folder disappears, sometimes not.
There's a way to rebuild Launchpad but I won't not recommend that. It will bring Launchpad back in the default-setting, so you would have to start rearranging all over again, at the risk of having the same problems all over again.
So, just wait until the first update of Yosemite comes out. That might solve your problem. If the empty folders bother you, you could try to drag them to a new last page, so they are out of sight for now.

  • How to delete empty albums from iCloud photo library

Finished migration to the new Photos for OS X, and my library across all devices is now the same.  However, if viewing Photos through iCloud, com (via Mac), I still see many unused empty Album folders.  These folders (albums) do not appear on any of my OS X or IOS devices.  I can;t seem to find a method to delete these folders.
    Any help would be appreciated
    THX

You cannot select an album on cloud.com! You can only open it. And if you right-click on it, there is only the custom safari menu.
By the the way the empty albums are only visible is 3 cases:
    1. They appear on results while searching on searching field.
    2. They are visible on iCloud.com.
    3. They are visible through "Documents 5" application by Readdle.
In all the 3 cases you cannot delete them.
    ... or I don't know how.

  • Batch deleting PhotoBooth folders from Users home directories

I am trying to free up server space. Photo booth is quite popular among my students 300+. Is there a way to delete the folders all at once from their home folders?

On the server, in Terminal.app do:
    sudo rm -rf /Volumes/<nameofdisk>/<pathtouserfoldersharepoint>/Users/*/Pictures/"Photo Booth"/*
The above may not work if you have the user's folders with a space in their username.
You can prevent the use of the built-in iSight camera on iMacs by issuing thiese commands in ARD's 'Send Unix command...':
    srm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBVideoSuppo rt.kext
    Then:
    touch /System/Library/Extensions
Then reboot the machines. This will remove the kext for the iSight and clear the kext cache.
Test it on one machine before applying it to a whole lab.

  • Empty folders (from previews) after removing files

I see that LR still creates a separate folder for every preview, and that all the folders remain on disk even after you've removed images from the library, leaving hundreds or thousands of empty folders behind. On the PC, there is a freeware app called RED (remove empty directories) that works well. Run it on the Lightroom folder in My Pictures.

Thanks Frank for your prompt reply, when I click empty trash, it got rid of all the pictures in trash, but on the empty folders, however whe i exited the program adn restarted it again, the folders were gone as well.
    Thanks again for your help

  • Help - AppleScript to delete empty folders

I have been trying to create an AppleScript that will let me clean directories of empty folders. I have scoured the web and developed the following script. It doesn't work. I have a simpler script but it requires that I enter my admin password everytime that a folder is identified to delete. I'm trying to develop something that only requires me to enter the admin password once. Can someone help me identify the problem with this script?
    on killEmpty(fol)
      tell application "Finder"
repeat with f in (get fol's folders)
      my killEmpty(f)
      end repeat
if (count items of fol) is 0 then do shell script "rmdir" with administrator privileges
      end tell
    end killEmpty
    tell application "Finder"
repeat with f in (get folders of window 1)
      my killEmpty(f)
      end repeat
    endtell

    Hi,
If you need an administrator's password, use a command in a do shell script to find and delete all empty folders, like this script:
tell application "Finder" to set tDir to quoted form of POSIX path of the ((target of Finder window 1) as string)
set pScript to quoted form of "from os import walk; from sys import argv; from shutil import rmtree; import glob
    for dirpath, _, _ in walk(argv[1], topdown=False):
        if not (glob.glob(dirpath + '/*')): rmtree(dirpath)"
    do shell script "/usr/bin/python -c " & pScript & " " & tDir with administrator privileges

  • Deleting empty folders

I am trying to delete an empty folder from Robohelp. I've had
this problem before & resolved it following some advice from
this forum. The problem this time seems to be a file called
ehlpdhtm.js (found in the Baggage folder). The instructions I got
before said to remove all references to this file. The problem is:
this file is in the code for every single topic I have. So I don't
know what to do to fix it. I have 13,000 topics in my help file so
there's no way I can remove it from all of them. Any suggestions?
    thanks!
    C

The ehlpdhtm.js file is added to each topic regardless of
whether the topic actually needs it. It contains dynamic HTML code
(e.g. drop down or expanding text). If your topics do not contain
any dynamic HTML then it is probably safe to remove the file from
baggage. If you can't do this from within RH, open the rhbag.apj
file in Notepad and remove it there. I recommend the usual advice
about taking backups before doing anything though.

  • How do I delete multiple photos from library?

    Hi All
On my iphone - how do I delete multiple photos from the library without having to do 1 at a time?
    Thanks

In the album, tap on the little forward arrow in the upper right corner. From there you can tap as many photos as you'd like, and at the bottom, you'll have the options to Share, Copy, Add To, or Delete.

  • I can't delete video files from library

I deleted the file from the music/itunes/itunes music/movies folder but the name of the deleted file still shows in the music videos playlist. how do i remove it from this list?

  • Can I auto-delete Album photos from Library once Album itself is deleted ? (iPhoto)

Tell me I've missed something really simple, please !
I've just spent 3 hours carefully selecting 250 single photos dotted around my entire iPhoto Library (8,000 pics)
I've put them in an Album ready to export.
After exporting this Album, I will want to delete the Album - and, crucially, all the originals from my Library - surely I don't have to spend another 3 hours sifting through the 8,000-strong Library again to relocate each of the 250 ?  Isn't there some one-click option, having exported the Album, and now ready to delete the Album, like, e.g. Delete Originals from Library After Deleting this Album ??   (I understand I can't only delete the Album to get rid of these pics completely, cos the originals will stay hidden and dispersed about the Library)
    Thank you for any help

  • I accidentally deleted "empty cache" from safari drop down, what are the keystokes for doing it manually?

What are the keystokes for doing it manually? or how do you reload it to the drop down menu?

"Empty cache"  is not available in Safari 6.  (It's not possilble to delete that option from the Safari menu).
    Several workarounds.
One. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar.
Now from the Safari menu bar click Develop > Empty Caches
Or, from the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari.
Select:  Clear History  (that empties the cache as well as deleting history. Deselect all the other boxes, then click Reset.
Unfortunately, Safar 6 omitted the empty cache keyboard shortcut.

  • Deleteing files/folders from network drive

I have a USB drive connected in to my Airport Extreme and I have conifgured user level access accounts for this. The four the iMac G4, iMac G5, iBook and Powerbook are all able to copy and delete files/folders with no problems. My Windows Vista machine is able to copy files/folders but I am only able to delete folders when they contain no files or sub-folders - sadly I do not have access to the full message but it is related to not having the correct permissions.
The USB drive is Mac OS X Extended format as a Fat 32 format drive did not appear on the network (this was before the recent Airport update though).
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so - do you know of a way around it?

    Guess it's just me
    Any ideas?

  • Deleting PPD's from Library

I don't want to scroll through a list or hundreds of ppd's to get one of the four that I use. Can I delete the unwanted ppd's from all the library folders. Will this cause OSX problems?

You can delete the printer drivers you don't use. When you install OS X be sure you do a Customize install and deselect the printer driver families you don't need. This will save you the trouble of deleting stuff later.

  • Add/Delete Custom Behavior From Library

    Greetings,
I'm pretty new at Director, but how do you add/delete custom
made behaviors from the behaviors library?
    Thank you.

Another cool tip is to create your own empty external castlib
(not attached to the movie) and place it in the 'xtras' folder
    (C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Director MX 2004\Configuration\Xtras).
Name it "my custom library" or something.
This way, it shows up is the Director 'xtras' menu, and when
selected, it opens as a regular unlinked castlib window which
allows you to directly copy from it and to it while you're working
    in director.
    hope this helps!
