Deleting erroneous network

I have an airport extreme "g" base station connected, by ethernet, to my DSL modem. I also have two airport express "g" units set up as clients to extend the wireless WDS network throughout my home. I just tried to add a 3rd Airport Express ("n"), which I'd like to use to extend my network, but also intend to connect it, by ethernet, to my DirectTV DVR in order to use DirectTV's On Demand capabilities. I had an ethernet cable plugged in to my new Airport Express unit when I plugged in the Express, planning to connect it to my DVR as soon as the Express was configured. When I attempted to add the new Express as a client to my existing wireless network, however, Airport Setup consequently configured my new Express as a second base station and network. I would like to delete this second network and reconfigure the new Airport Express simply as a client on my existing WDS network. Does anyone know how to completely get rid of this new network? Removing its name from Network Preferences just removes the name, the network still exists. I've tried resetting the express unit and that doesn't seem to remove the network either. All help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the link to Apple's support document. As it turns out, I ultimately figured it out on my own. When I'd first tried resetting the AX, it hadn't taken out all the network settings; so I thought I must be missing some additional steps. I finally did get there, though, once I realized I needed the latest AX utility. I hadn't updated to the latest Airport Utility and that's what was necessary to accommodate both the "g" and the "n" protocols. The best news is, I'm now able to use DirectTV's On Demand and it's working really well. It wasn't completely easy getting there, though. In installing a new AX/n, there is the added option to "join a wireless network," in contrast to the already-existing option to "participate in a "WDS" network. I'd set up my "g" network as a WDS and initially tried to add my new AX/n to the WDS network. I never actually tested the DVR connection to see if it would work this way, but I've since read that it's best (for streaming, DVR connection, etc.) to use the "join a wireless network option" when using the latest AX for these purposes. If you did not opt to "join existing wireless network" when merging your two networks, perhaps this is your problem. I definitely think the AX should be able to support both the Ethernet and optical ports at the same time; one really has nothing to do with the other. In fact, one of Apple's suggested setups shows an Ethernet printer connection and an optical receiver connection in the same configuration. The Ethernet connection to your DVR shouldn't make a difference.
Another thing to note: DirectTV's instructions indicate that if your connection is set up properly, you'll see a "congratulations" when you go to DTV's Network Settings page. I did not find this to be the case. In DTV's Setup Menu, I got the option to "test" the network settings. When I selected it, it took me to yet another option to run a system test and it was only when I did this that it said the network was connected. The proof, however, was being able to bring up a complete list of all the available On Demand programs and actually see it in action downloading a program. Let me know if you're able to get everything working. Good luck!

  • How do I delete a network and start over with no wired computers??

I've been trying forever to delete my parents network...it has a WEP I can't remember, and I just want to start from scratch.  I've tried reseting the router...I've even called a Linksys tech, and even she was baffled.  I have no wired computers...Can anyone help???

The only thing you can't do is upgrade the firmware.
That being said ... I have to assume you are using Windows XP and windows is managing the wireless network connections.
If any of these assumptions are false, my advice may not be as helpful.
Step 1. Delete all networks from the Preferred Networks list.
    - open the wireless network connections window (double-click on icon in task bar)
    - click on Advanced tab (bottom left)
    - select each network that is shown and delete/remove it (can't remember what the button is called)
    Step 2. Reset the router.
    - unplugging the router does not accomplish anything here
    - locate the reset button ... press AND hold for at least 5 seconds
    - once you release the button, various lights on the front panel will flash as the router boots
    - when you have a steady green for power, look to see if you have a green light for WLAN
    - if the wireless is turned OFF by default (no green light for WLAN) you will have to find a way connect wired for at least a few minutes to turn it on (take it to a friends, bring the friend to it ... whatever works)
Step 3. Setup the router for secure wireless.
    - if the WLAN is lit after resetting, you should see a notification on the computer saying "one or more wireless networks are in range"
    - click on that notification and find an unsecured network called linksys (if there is more then one, pick the one with the highest signal strength)
    - once you connect to that, open Internet Explorer and in the address bar type 192.168.1.1
    - the user name is left blank and the password is admin
    - change the password (under the Administration tab)
    - under the Wireless tab change the SSID name
    - under the Wireless Security tab choose WPA-shared key (better the WEP) and a phrase
    - once you apply the changes you will lose your connection
    - go back into the wireless network connections window and you should now see a secured network with the name you picked
    - try to connect to it, a dialog will appear asking for encryption type (WPA-shared key) and phrase
    - once you have successfully connected windows will automatically set up that network as default and connect to it whenever it is in range.
Let me know if any of this is ?!?

  • Deletion of network activities

    Hi Gurus,
I am facing this problem here, where the client has created a project and released the same.
Now they want to delete certain activity elements, activities, networks & WBSE.
We are able to delete the activity elements, activities and Network, but not WBSE as there are POs created for that WBSE.
To delete the networks, the bottom up approach was followed, ie. first we deleted the activity elements, then the activity and then set the status for networks as TECO, and set the deletion flag.
Now the networks and activities are gone, but the costs still exist in the project. How to
update the costs and remove the costs for the activities that have been deleted.
    Pls guide.
    Regards,
    VikasD

    Hi
First reverse the GR document if you posted aganist the PO, then you delete the PO item and then PR.Then you try to delete the 3 level WBSE. For deleting 2 level WBSE first you need to remove the budget from CJ30 and the reset the status using OPSX t .code. Then remove the IM assignment from the 2 level WBSE and delete the WBSE and Project definition.
    Thanks

  • Can't delete a network I've created

    Hi,
How do I delete a network that I've created using tool bar > airport > create new network. I've created three not knowing what I'm doing, surprise surprise, I want to keep the name of the third but want to delete the first two which are constantly visible in the airport menu list. They have been deleted from within system preferences > airport > prefered networks.
When I try sharing my internet connection i get a dialog box that states non of my networks are accessible and do I want to join the '(the name of second one)' I created. Where is it storing this information for me to delete.
Short of not getting a solution on this forum then I'll wipe the hard drive as a last resort rid my system of them.
    Can anyone advise?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Do you have a backed up configuration file that doesn't have this change? If so you can try to revert to factory settings and then reload the file. If you don't have such a file back up your current Base Station settings to a file, revert to backup settings and then reacquire the Airport load up your configuration file, make the changes you want and then update the Base Station.
Let me modify this answer a bit? are you using your Mac as a base station or do you have a saucer? A more exact description of your setup would be helpful.

I have two networks one each in two cities.  Both are named the same but require different passwords. I am at my second location and cannot connect to this wifi network. How do I delet one network so I can connect to my second network?

Just go to the wireless network preferences and empty out all the stored wireless networks.. then scan and connect to the local wireless.
Select them and tap the - button below it.
Once they are emptied out.. it might be good to reboot the computer with the remember networks unchecked.
    Start with a clean slate.

  • This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of server

This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. I have a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.6.8. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of servers and trying to reconnect this way. These methods have worked temporarily, but the same problem keeps coming back. Most of the time my personal wireless connection does not even come up among the list of available networks. My fellow flatmates have PCs and both of them are able to connect to the network without problem.
The router is a d-link model DIR-615. I am not tech savy, so if any other information need to be provided in order to better understand my situation, please let me know.
    Please help me!

If I open the list of networks in a window it says "connection timeout," but if I just select it from the drop down it tries for awhile and then stops with no prompt. When I try to run network diagnostics it says "sorry, we can't connect to the internet" (or some solution-free variation of that)

  • Files deleted over network

Hi, some of users over the network accidentally deleted a folder from XServe, and he asked if it can be recovered, when someone deletes a file/folder over network OSX reports that "the item will be deleted immediately", is this true? it wont going to be stored in some "Network Trash Folder"? or ".Trashes"? or "Temporary Items"??
And if it really wont be recovered, is there a way to prevent this in the future? like to tell OSX Server to put all the files/folders deleted over network to be stored in a special folder for a certain time to prevent loosing important files accidentally or by other users??
    Thanks

Bertrand> This seems a nice idea, but its not exactly what i need, people still need to delete files from the server, but sometimes they delete important things and im looking for a way that the OSX Server keeps the remotely deleted file for a certain amount of time so it can be restored if needed. many times users accidentally delete files from the server and hit the "OK" button without noticing they just delete an important file from the server and not from there HD, for example, in Apple Share IP on OS9 if you delete a file over the network it would keep it in the user Trash and he empties it, and if he for example restarted his computer, the file on the ASIP would be stored in "Network Trash Folder".. why the mighty OSX Server doest have this great ability?!
Steve> Tapes is great for backup and archiving, but its not what i am really looking for, it has the same problem i have with Time Machine, time machine wont backup a file copied to the server and accidentally deleted within an hour, so Tapes, wont backup a file copied and deleted within a day..
WelshDog2> just a question: if i dont have any partition on my XRAID, how can i make it backup its self on its own HD's?! is this possible?! it wont solve my problem but its good to know if this can be done..
Thank you all guys for your replies, i really appreciate it..

  • Photoshop file gets deleted in network while using on IMAC

photoshop file gets deleted in network while using on IMAC. I have tried on different server also. How to reslove the issue. Please help me ?

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Deleting the network disk

    Hello all,
I wanted to know if there was a way to delete the network disk listed in the Startup Disk control panel?
    -Thanks.

    Hi, PSST -
None that I'm aware of. There may be a way to do it using ResEdit on one of the system's files, but which file that is and what resource in that file to alter is not something I'm aware of.
Changes made in Startup Disk control panel are entered in the Startup Disk Preferences file (in the Preferences folder in System Folder); I believe that info is transferred to PRAM when the machine is restarted or shut down, rather than immediately.
If your concern is someone (accidentally or willfully) changing the Startup Disk selection to Network Disk, you can try -
    • removing the Startup Disk control panel from the Control Panels folder and hiding it (one way to do that is to make it invisible). Make sure that your preferred boot volume has been selected before removing it.
    • locking the Startup Disk Preferences file. Though this is easily undone by someone savvy to unlocking and locking files, it may suffice to prevent a casual user from changing the boot volume.

  • How to remove confirmation prompt when deleting from network share on Windows 8?

Regarding the question, on Windows 7 if I uncheck "Display delete confirmation dialog" I could delete a file without confirmation whether it's on local or network share but in Windows 8 this only affects the data on local drive only and if I try
to delete anything from network the confirmation dialog appears even though "Display delete confirmation dialog"is unmarked. Are there any ways to alter this behavior?

No, it does not. This only works on my local drives. If I tried to delete anything on my network share (mapped drive etc..) It always gives me the prompt whether the checkbox is marked or not. This seems to be a problem only on Windows 8 as I have no problem
    with Windows 7
BTW, my file servers are running Win 2012 and 2008R2

  • Can`t delete WLAN Networks (Nokia E52)

Hello! I tried to connect to a wlan network (Name) and entered a wrong wep key. After i found out how to change the wep key i realised that i had more networks (Name01, Name02). I still can`t connect to my initial network as the wep key is still incorrect but i can connect to 01 and 02. I would like to delete Name and Name01 networks from my list. How can i do that? I couldn`t delete them from Menu - Ctrl. panel - Connectivity - WLAN wiz.
My phone is an E52, thanks!

I have the same problem - I used a wireless range extender - and my phone kept finding new versions of my network - named (01) - (17), I could never connect. I turned of the extender now it works fine - but I still have 17 versions of my network - I did not enter them myself. I also have a number of old networks - which are no longer relevant - How du you delete them?????

  • How do I delete a network

I have two networks set up with time capsule, don't ask why I have set up two as I only need one, I made a mistake. I want to delete one of them as they both have very similar names. Also how do I rename a network? Thanks.

Wireless networks? Go into the Airport Utility, select your base station, click Manual Setup, then go to the Airport tab and turn off the Guest network. While there, you can also rename your other network.

  • CS4 "Already in use cannot delete" over network problem

    Hello,
I am having a problem with a Mac on OS X not being able to open or delete any .ai files over a network on a Dell Server running Windows Server 2008. If we try to open or delete the file I get an error message "Already in use cannot delete". Also, I get a "cannot complete copy" error too. Whats weird is that both machines can see each other over the network and the Mac can read and write to all other files over the network. The server does not have anything adobe products installed at all. There is no other machine on the network that is causing these files to be in use. I have checked when the backups are done using Windows Server 2008 Backup and they are finished before anyone gets into the office, so I dont believe its the Backup program holding the files hostage. I have read in some areas that this may be a known flaw with NTFS formatting over a network, but im not sold on that idea yet.
Any and all suggestions would be as useful to me as insulin right about now.

Sorry one last thing. I can delete the files on the Server itself.
