Deleting FCE Files When Production Completed

I have several megs and gigs of footage laying around in several preference files set up in FCE 3 HD. I am done with my work. I want to "clean" out my drives. What is safe to delete, so I won't affect anything else and screw up my system?
Thanks...Henri

What I do is I locate all of my files for my
project.
Make a brand new folder and place it on my Desktop.
I then copy all of the files from my project to that
folder, so I don't move them to a new location on my
hard drive.
I will go through all of my files in all of my drives
and locate the ones for the project. I check all of
the folders I've set up for editing to make sure I
didn't leave a file behind so if I need to make a
last minute change. I also put my project file in
this folder, along with render files, captures and
other random data such as Autosaves.
I will then create an archive of the folder,
Right/Control click and choose "Mark Archive". I take
this archived folder and place it in one of my
external drives.
Then delete the files from my OS X drives and other
drives in which the media is located. Of course, you
can just move the files rather than copy them, it's
just what I do. I always make sure I have all of the
files before deleting, always make sure you've got
everything.

Benny..
This sounds like a fine idea...Thank you so much..I'm just overwhelmed with what FCE does to all these different levels of data as we collect them over time.
It's kind of a double edged sword...It's got its good and its bad sides..
Thanks again!
Henri

  • How to delete a file when it is open ?

    Hi all,
    I want to delete a file even it is open, and that should be deleted with out exiting the program itself. By using deleteOnExit() method of File class it is possible, but it is not valid for all types of files, and it works if we exit the program only.
    I need a way to delete a file even it is opened, and we should not use deleteOnExit() method to achieve it.
    Help appreciated ...

    Not possible.

  • ITunes is deleting podcast files when I don't want it to.

    I installed the latest version of iTunes and set my podcast settings to only dowload podcasts from the last week (since it was trying to download podcast files that I had previously listened to, then deleted), and delete podcasts was set to off.
    Now, all of the sudden, it is deleting podcast files that are 1) older than a week and 2) dowloaded with the new iTunes.
    I want to go back to the old iTunes behaviour of downloading only the most recent podcast (unless it has been previously downloaded) and only deleting files if done manually!

    I have to agree. I've been using iTunes/iPods exclusively for listening to podcasts since 2008, and within the past year it's just gotten increasingly frustrating and confusing to use both iTunes and my iPod for this purpose. I just found this thread because my iPod auto-deleted a podcast that I'd only listened to for 10 minutes; and I don't want it to ever delete podcasts without my consent. Truly infuriating.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop deletes your files when you re-install - why?

    Just re-installed Creative Cloud Desktop to try to fix a syncing issue and it deleted all my personal files stored in my local creative cloud folder.  As many of these files had not synced, I have now lost them.
    Adobe support not sympathetic.
    This is so annoying.  Uninstalling a piece of software should never delete user files.
    Really hacked off.

    ddinsdale2000,
    I'm sorry to hear that your experience has not been good.
    Could you confirm that your files are not present in either of these locations:
    1. In your user's home directory (either /Users/<yourusername>/Creative Cloud Files/ on Mac, or C:\Users\<yourusername>\Creative Cloud Files\ on Windows)?
    2. In your Trash or Recycle Bin?
    The Creative Cloud desktop application should not delete any files on uninstalling/reinstalling. Also, Creative Cloud file sync does not outright delete files, they are just moved to the Trash/Recycle Bin.
    We can look into what happened here if you send us your logs. Please zip up the entire contents of this folder, and email it to me at [email protected]:
    Mac: /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync
    Windows: C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CoreSync
    Library (on Mac) and AppData (on Windows) are hidden folders. Please read these pages for help on showing these folders:

  • Is there a way of deleting old files when upgrading to Lion

    So I'm finally thinking about switching over from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5.  Normally, when I upgrade to a newer OS, it's usually when a newer OS than that comes out.  ie. Mountain Lion is out, so Lion would have seen it's issues and has been updated as much as it can.  Basically, 10.7.5 is the best Lion will ever get.  Hence why I'm willing to upgrade.  I'll admit, I'm lazy when it comes to having to reinstall everything, but because old OS extensions and kernels don't get deleted when you upgrade to newer OS, I usually install a clean OS, which means I have to reinstall all my apps.  I'm wondering if there's a way for all older OS system files that are not necessary anymore, to be deleted upon upgrading.  Or will Apple ever design an upgrade that will do so.

    Buy Lion, erase your disk and install.

  • Does Adobe CC Delete Program Files when not Paid?

    This sounded absolutely ludicrous to me but someone said that when they didnt pay for the CC membership, Adobe deleted all the files from the PC and then had to re-download all the files again to use it.  I had a couple of times, deactivated my CC on a PC for weeks, came back, and reactivated, and it was working just like before.
    I would think paid or not, Adobe can "deactivate" the software through the internet, but I would think its a serious breach of privacy and security for Adobe to access your program files remotely and without your permission and presence, and start deleting files in your Program Files folder.
    Someone please tell me the details on this, thanks!

    Hi Dathaeus, NO! we are not delelting any files from your PC, nor do we have a control of it, we will only and only suspend your activation, incase of non payment, or if you discontinue, you will still have your files on your PC.
    However, if your subscription expires, and there are files on Cloud, more than 2GB, you may not be able to access those, and after 90days, they will be deleted.
    Hope this Clears the confusion.

  • In adf,how to delete a file generated on server,when the webpage is closed

    Hi,
    I have an application consisting of 2 pages. in the 1st page i will give some input details and when i click on submit, some java code is getting executed in the back. That java code generates a csv file in the server location. after succesful execution of java code, i was redirected to 2nd page. In 2nd page, i am giving option to download and when the user clicked on download button and after the file is downloaded -- in the backend i am deleting the file from the server. Till this point everything is fine. But if the user didnt click on the Download button and instead if he closes the browser, the csv file gets remained on the server itself. This is the issue i am facing .. I am not able to get an idea in ADF Framework, how to delete a file when the browser is closed. Please help me out in this.
    Thanks in advance !!!

    ADF has nothing to do with tracking browser close buttons. What you can do is call a JS function and call the method which deletes the file from within the JS function. ADF has a component for calling java code from JS call.

  • Aperture 3: Deleting raw files and making the jpeg my new master-

    Aperture 3 has made some great strides in making the following possible ( I posted this originally in 2007):
    What I'd like to do is shoot everything in raw + jpg, and then keep the raw files only for the important shots.
    I really like having the option of raw processing, but the storage demands are very heavy. If I could just make a selection of photos in a roll, and have a command to delete any unneeded raw files from the selected photos, while keeping the original jpgs as master, that would be great.
    Also, it would be great to be able to manipulate a raw file, and then when I'm satisfied with the image, to render a high-quality jpg from that raw file & make the jpg the new master, and then delete the raw file to free up disk space.
    Basically, I want the raw file safety net for everyday images, without gobbling up gigabytes of disk space <<<<<
    With Aperture 3, I can finally change the master to the jpg file, which solves part of the problem. But I still want to be able to manipulate my raw file, and render a new high-quality jpg master.
    Why don't Aperture / Lightroom do this? To me at least, it seems an obvious feature.

    I had a chance to talk to product managers from both Apple & Adobe about this at PhotoPlus Expo in NYC a couple years back. Both seemed receptive, but here we are - years later - no progress.
    I think part of the problem is that there's a purist mentality about RAW files. One should always shoot them - and then keep them forever- after all- they're your negatives!
    But what about event photography? Or weddings, as you pointed out? It makes no sense to burden your workflow & backup system with 4GB of RAW files of people grinning into the camera. Once the adjustments have been made, the RAW files are just a ball & chain on your data management. And let's not forget, once you really know what you're doing, your jpegs should be good most of the time anyway.
    I want RAW files as a safety net for errors in exposure and white balance. Once I know I have good photos, I don't need the safety net anymore- at least not at the price of all that hard disk space and transfer time for online backup. Of course, for my fine art stuff and important documentary work, I'll always keep the RAWs permanently. But not for routine parties/events.
    You put your finger on the problem with re-importing jpegs as a solution. You lose your metadata- rankings/album memberships, etc. This is no solution!
    What I want is simple, and it would be immediately useful to countless photographers:
    1) Let me batch-delete RAW files when the jpegs are ok.
    2) Let me do adjustments on my RAW file, render out a high-quality jpeg, and make the jpeg my new master.
    Whoever does this first - Aperture or Lightroom - that's the product I'll use.

  • Classloader won't let me delete jar file!

    Hi-
    I am writing a classloader that runs main from a class called MyMain. MyMain loads classes from a jar file called MattTable.jar. I need to be able to delete the jar file once the classes are loaded from it, or even just delete it at the end of the program. Either way, the classloader will not release it so I cannot delete the jar file until after my program finishes. I want to be able to delete it from with in my code after the method is invoked.
    URL urls[] = new URL[] { new File(".").toURL() };
    URLClassLoader loader = new URLClassLoader( urls );
    Class c = loader.loadClass(mainClass);
    Method m1 = c.getMethod("main", new Class[] { args.getClass() });
    //main loads classes from an outside jar file
    m1.invoke( null, new Object[] {args} );
    //Here is where I want to delete the jar file
    //I would even accept file.deleteOnExit() but this won't work either
    If anyone can help me figure out how to delete this file, it would be a great help!
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi,
    I've created a small classloader for jar files which releases the handle every time a class is loaded. It might still need some optimization, but at least it works:import java.util.zip.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class ZipClassLoader extends ClassLoader {
         private Hashtable classes = new Hashtable();
         private File f;
         public ZipClassLoader(String zipFileName) {
              this (new File(zipFileName));
         public ZipClassLoader(File zipFile) {
              f = zipFile;
         public Class loadClass(String className) throws ClassNotFoundException {
              return (loadClass(className, true));
         public synchronized Class loadClass(String className, boolean resolve) throws ClassNotFoundException {
              if (classes.containsKey(className)) return (Class)classes.get(className);
              ZipFile zipFile = null;
              BufferedInputStream bis = null;
              byte[] res = null;
              try {
                   zipFile = new ZipFile(f);
                   ZipEntry zipEntry = zipFile.getEntry(className.replace('.', '/')+".class");
                   res = new byte[(int)zipEntry.getSize()];
                   bis = new BufferedInputStream(zipFile.getInputStream(zipEntry));
                   bis.read(res, 0, res.length);
              } catch (Exception ex) {
              } finally {
                   if (bis!=null) {
                        try {
                             bis.close();
                        } catch (IOException ioex) {}
                   if (zipFile!=null) {
                        try {
                             zipFile.close();
                        } catch (IOException ioex) {}
              if (res == null) return super.findSystemClass(className);
              Class clazz = defineClass(className, res, 0, res.length);
              if (clazz == null) throw new ClassFormatError();
              if (resolve) resolveClass(clazz);
              classes.put(className, clazz);
              return(clazz);
    }This is the test program I've created. It loads a class from the Apache log4j jar file, and deletes the file when the class is loaded:import java.io.File;
    public class Test {
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              File f = new File("C:\\jartest\\log4j-1.2.6.jar");
              ZipClassLoader zl = new ZipClassLoader (f);
              Class c = zl.loadClass ("org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender", true);
              Object o = c.newInstance();
              System.out.println (o.getClass().getName());
              f.delete();
    }

  • Deleting a file using getParameter()

    <%
          File d = new File(dir);
          File[] files = d.listFiles();
          for (int i = 0; i < files.length; i++)
                 filename=files.getName();
    %>
    <input name="delete_box" type="checkbox" value="<%=filename%>">
    <%
    String[] fileNames = getParameterValues("delete_box");
    for (int j = 0; j < fileNames.length; j++)
    String fileOne = new String(fileQ[i].toString());
    for (int k = 0; k < files.length; K++)
    i f (filename.equals(fileOne))
    files[k].delete();
    Please help! In the code above, I am trying to allow a user check a checkbox for files they want to delete. I am trying to put the checked files into a String array, then loop through the array and compare it to files stored on the hard drive, then delete the file when they are equal.
    I'm not that familiar with using getParameter() and believe I am using it wrong as the code above does not delete the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been working on this for days.
    thanks

    The code looks ok to me - what you have shown of it.
    As DrClap intimated, it would be better to split this into two parts.
    One which displays the files/checkboxes (first request)
    Another which handles the submission of that page (second request)
    The problem I could see right now is that it would display all the current files, and then go through deleting some of them - so the ones you have displayed are now incorrect.
    The best way to sort this out is to print out the values that you are retrieving - see if they are being got successfully from the form submission (I don't see a form, or submit button, but I presume they are present)
    Cheers,

  • How do I get Time Machine to delete old files?

    On threads for earlier operating systems I've seen similar questions, and it seems Apple hasn't resolved the problem that although Time Machine says it will delete old files when the disc is full, it doesn't do it, even though my hard drive has only ~300 GB of files on it and my external hard drive has 1.5 T, it does nothing to delete old files automatically.  This hasn't always been the case.  The first few entries were deleted awhile back, freeing space, but that has stopped happening.  Any suggestions?  Do I have to start with a fresh external hard drive?

    ringoiphone wrote:
    Thanks.  Although the reset did nothing, by deleting enough old backups (a VERY slow process) I could get it to free enough space for another backup.  It's not clear to me why it cannot do this automatically.
    Time Machine will delete old backups, if it can.  So something must be wrong.  See #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
    If nothing there helps, a clue may be lurking in your logs.  Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs.  Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.
