What files do they want me to delete so I can sync or download music to my cell phone. Do I need to delete pictures,videos or apps?

How do you delete files, applications, downloads, music, movies, not used?

When i turned on my new Macbook in the morning today, i was at 56gb's, out of 80gb. Now it states its a 53gb's. i obtained some music files but wish now to delete them off my computer. how do i do this? how can i get precious gb's back?
isnt there something on the macbook to delete unwanted things? like control panel on windows? also need to delete photos and music and one movie. how do i do this? simply drag to trash can or is there more?

In spotlight when I search Superman, it find it. I click it
and automatically Quicktime opens.
Clicking on the file will open the file. To the right of any items found with a Spotlight search is a light blue circle with an i in the center short for info. Click on this which provides the location of the file.
When downloading files from the internet with Safari, etc. you can designate a default location to save the downloaded files. I choose the Desktop and if the download is something I want to keep, I transfer it to the location of my choice.
2nd: Music. It did not originate from iTunes but is on iTunes now.
I deleted the original music folder with about 10 songs by taking it
to the trash can and emptying it...but its still playing in iTunes.
Would deleting it on iTunes completly delete it and providing me
with more gb's?
Yes as previously provided - if you have "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected at Advanced under the General tab for iTunes preferences (which I believe is the default setting), then there are two copies of the music you obtained if the music was downloaded or placed on the hard drive.

The links I provided will not help you with the downloaded music and movie issue. I would create a music named folder to place downloaded music and a movie named folder to place downloaded movies, etc. This way, you know where any downloaded data is stored/located.
After importing any downloaded music into iTunes keeping "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" selected, you can then delete the original downloaded files and the same when importing any downloaded pictures to iPhoto.
The first link I provided includes information on deleting applications and then 2nd link provides suggestions on freeing up hard drive space.

Add mp3 to iTunes, delete file from Downloads, add Comment?

I'm trying to make a folder action that will:
- Watch my 'Downloads' folder for downloaded .mp3 files.
- Add those .mp3 files to iTunes, letting iTunes copy to music folder.
- Delete the original file from the 'Downloads' folder.
- In iTunes, append '#single' to the Comment field of added .mp3.

Better yet, an Applescript that can be used as a folder action to watch the Downloads folder and:
1) Open .mp3s in iTunes and append #single to track Comments, then delete original .mp3s.

Deleted songs keep downloading when syncing iPhone.

I download the free iTunes songs and listen to them on the way to work. If I don't like them, I delete them after I've synced my phone at home. I've never had a problem until last week. Now the songs keep downloading again when I sync my phone. I know I can choose to not sync them to the phone, and have done that for now. It's driving me crazy not being able to delete them for good though. Any suggestions?

I think I found a solution - at least it worked for me for now.
I unchecked the song in iTunes and deleted it off the iPhone and off itunes at the same time, whilst being disconnected. With the next sync, the song did not come back. The spell is broken!

IPhone 4 won't download or sync music

My iPhone 4 won't let me sync music from my library. I have an Ipad and this syncs fine with all the same settings.
I have tried removing music from library and putting them back in to the library from another folder. I've restored my phone. I've converted tracks to AAC. I've tried syncing in different ways. Mac OS X won't let me uninstall iTunes so this is not an option.
I thought I'd get over this by downloading an album from iTunes store straight on to my phone (I only want a handful of tracks for running!) but music won't download either! Nothing to do with wi-fi as I have downloaded them on to my Mac Mini and iPad fine. Just the iPhone.
HELP, I'm driving myself mad!! All updates are present and correct.

The only way you are going to get that back is if you have a back up in iTunes or iCloud that had that the video on it. If you put your back up on your iPhone, it will replace everything that is currently on your iPhone with the contents of the back up.

Itunes not letting me sync music which I've downloaded from CDs. Only taking music purchased on iTunes. WHAT IS GOING ON? Help

iTunes is not syncing new music from CDs that I've downloaded only syncs music purchased from iTunes. Is this on purpose? Or another flaw with updates? Anyone have suggestions or fixes?

I'm having the exact same problem, a total pain in the a$$. I tried restarting my computer and my iPhone to no avail. I have a MacBook pro and iPhone 4S and both are totally up to date software-wise. I would really like to listen to my music though.....

I have researched this topic here as well as on Google and I am not really getting the answers I need. I am by no means an iTunes/iPod pro; my 3 year old recently showed me how to shut off my iPod (I hadn't realized before that it had anything other than a "sleep mode", if you will).
I have read you need to set iTunes from autosync to manual, but this isn't working for me... iTunes still wants to delete/replace everything currently stored on my iPod, or will say it can't find the files on my iPod if I've already deleted them from my PC.
I have Windows XP. I recently upgraded my iTunes software to 9.2.1.5, and I have an iPod touch 64GB.
I really need to delete a lot of MP3s and videos (not purchased from iTunes) to clear up space on my home PC, but I'm afraid to do it because every time I end up having to replace the deleted files anyway whenever I sync the thing.
I click on "manual" on the Summary page, I then click on "sync music" and "Sync Movies". On each of those pages I get a pop up, and if I don't click on music or movies previously added to my iPod, they get deleted. The "manual" option doesn't save itself as the default option either, I always have to recheck it every time I sync my iPod. Otherwise, it always goes back to the autosync mode.
I would just like to add new files to my iPod, leave the stuff already stored on it, and delete the files off my computer. I don't know if I'm still doing it wrong, or if there's an iTunes glitch or what. Can someone please explain how to do this?

Sounds like you have a few problems going on here. First one being, the itunes/ipod preference isn't getting saved for manually managing.
Second one being, if you are intending to manually manage content on your ipod, hitting sync does just that - it puts the ipod "in sync" with the PC. If a file isn't on the PC, it gets erased from the ipod.
My advice is to get an external hard drive, leave the ripped files from your CDs there so itunes always has access to them, and free up space on your PC's hard drive that way. An added benefit of having an exHD is, you can have backups copies of your purchased tracks, since you only get one download of them. If your PC dies, they will be on the exHD, or vice versa.

How to sync music to the N8's MicroSD card

I bought a 32GB MicroSD card for my N8 so that I had enough capacity to store all of my MP3s. Unfortunately I can't convince Ovi Music Player to sync music to that location. It always tries to sync the music to the N8's 16GB internal storage area despite there not being enough capacity to do so.
Is there any way to configure either Ovi Music Player or the N8 to use the MicroSD card exclusively for the music library? It's making me very frustrated.

Whilst I hear what you say, carman, just search for the number of threads relating to the problems many people have (and I have had corrupted libraries, album art missing, etc, and I am a fairly experienced user) just trying to get music into a library. IF it was working, as it should, then the facilities provided by Nokia should just transfer the music in a easy standard way, complete with artwork, to your desired location, and you should end up with a working music system and a completely updated working library. There should be ONE recommended way of doing it, which should be fairly automatic, simple, reliable, safe and should just work. That situation does not exist.
Now, I am not saying providing flexibility by providing other alternatives is not desirable. What I AM saying is that Nokia should be able to say - "if you do it this way, then it will work correctly." From the number of people who have problems with music transfer and libraries, it is obvious that this message has not reached the mass of the users. Whether that is an inability to provide such a feature, or an inability to communicate what it is, and how to use it, Nokia is falling down somewhere. To be honest, after trying to transfer my music to my sd card, unsuccessfully, and then getting advice to go into the file structure and delete files, I gave up and just loaded it onto the phone. Why should an end user (most of whom, like my mother, are not as technically competent as me) need to start searching for and deleting files just to get their music library working? No wonder the restrictive practices implemented by Apple have been lauded (although I don't like that company because of it!). At least they have made their product relatively user-friendly, which is a BIG plus when you are dealing in this sort of area. Not everybody is capable of dealing with the sort of problems people seem to encounter doing something as simple as loading music (in fact, probably the majority ....). It should just work! This lack of ability to 'keep it simple' has been the downfall of Nokia. Their developers provide superb bells and whistles, but seem not to have grasped the fact that bells and whistles are fantastic to have, AS LONG AS THE BASICS ARE ROCK SOLID. And from my experience, transferring music to an sd card is no way a simple or rock solid process, without you doing a lot of digging to find out how to do it successfully - hence all the posts. 1-How do I sync new music to my i-pod without erasing the music that I have already put on there? I want to get rid of some music in my i-tunes library and not have to worry about it getting deleted the next time I sync music.
2-How do I create backup disks of my music?

1. You probably want to use either manually managing songs or only sync checked songs. To do this, go to the music section of the iPod and change "Automatically sync songs to iPod" (which I'm guessing is what it's currently set to) to manual, or select "only sync checked songs". If you choose manual update, you will have to drag the desired songs to the iPod. If you select sync checked songs, just go through your library and uncheck songs you don't want on your iPod. Syncing new songs won't erase the old ones.
2. If you want physical backup discs, such as CDs or DVDs, in iTunes go to File>Burn Backup Discs. If you want to backup to an external hard drive just copy the files to the drive.

Deleted files in Dock after AirDrop

After I delete files from 'Download' folder in Finder I can see icons of deleted files in 'Download' in Dock. I have to delete 'Download' from Dock, add a new one to Dock and after it it will be without files. This problem appears after using Airdrop.

Were any of those files missing in the dock of the second account ones that you deleted from your account? For example, there is only one copy of Safari on this computer. If I delete it from my account as administrator it will disappear from all accounts.

Can't sync music from itunes to ipod touch

Ever since I updated to the newest version of the iTunes I can not sync my music onto my ipod touch and I have already reinstalled couple times. I need helppp with it. I can see my ipod touch file but just cannot sync music.

What happens when you try to sync? Error messages?

ITunes 7 deleted "Downloads" folder of music from iTunes and iPod

In iTunes 6 I had iTunes point towards "My Music" folder in windows for my library.
One of the folders in "My Music" was called "Downloads".
NB: the music in "Downloads" is NOT my music downloaded from the iTunes Music Store... it isn't copy protected etc...
Upon upgrading to iTunes 7, i got !'s next to all my 'downloads' music.
I checked the folder and non of the music was there... all completely gone.
I do have a back up of this music, so not all is lost, but the backup is at home and I won't be able to get it for a few weeks.
So in the mean time, I plugged my iPod in, hoping to copy the downloads music off it to use until i could get my backup.
When i plugged my ipod in I got that nice new overview screen of whats on your ipod and it told me there was an update available. Ok thats cool, I'll download it an install it later (so i chose that option...)
As soon as I had done this, the iPod started updating itself and poof... all the downloads are gone of the iPod!!
Ive never had this happen before, usually if there is music on the ipod that isn't in itunes it just leaves it in there and syncs what is in my library.
I then went back to the Downloads folder in My Music to do some investigating. It turns out there were some itunes related files in there. What! iTunes deleted my "Downloads" folder, and replaced it with its own one? Grr...
Unfortunately i didn't write down what those files are, but I believe they were the files for the iPod update.
The update of my ipod actually failed and i can't get it to work... and since that has happened, the downloads folder isn't even there at all anymore. My guess would be that if i could get itunes to do the update again, the folder would reappear with those files again.

HERE IS A way too long diplomatic rant:
This is my third post on this subject. This is a real problem. And it strongly appears (based on what I've been reading from others, plus my own experience) that the new iTunes is the culprit.
But this problems is not limited to a folder named 'Downloads'.[/b.] ITunes, somehow, and for some reason, will delete entire album folders of music in the default 'Music' directory.
Here's what happened to me. Mind you, this involves music I converted to MP3's from CD's I own. I buy about ten-twenty CD's a month, so this is not some Orwellian nightmare affecting merely downloaded songs--purchased or otherwise.
Here is a typical example of what's happening:
BEFORE iTunes v7 was installed:
-An 'Artist' folder named 'A Perfect Circle' contained the following 'Album' folders: 'Mer De Noms', 'The Thirteenth Step', 'eMotive'
SHORTLY AFTER iTunes 7 (about a month or so ago):
-Perfect Circle folder contained only the eMotive album. The rest were gone: this means not in the trash. Not moved. No where on the HD. Simply zapped.
I've lost MP3 albums from purchased CD's from Bob Marley, Led Zeppellin, Bjork, etc. It has affected at least 50 artist folders. I rip entire albums that I buy: I'm not trying to pass judgement though. I just want the point to be driven home that this bug is big, and it's affecting people who have spent much time and energy legitimately converting their music collections.
Am I missing something? I know I'm not alone in this, but this bug doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves from Apple. This is a major screw up. HAS APPLE RELEASED A STATEMENT? Forgive me if it has. But I can't find it. Maybe it's right under my nose?
Anyway, I do have all my music backed up on CD's and DVD's where they can't be corrupted. And all those discs are copied and stored in a remote location, in case of fire. This might seem extreme, but when you've spent a year of your life converting hundreds of albums and tagging them meticulously, you don't take chances. The only problem with this backup method is that my backup is spread out over many, many read-only discs. Moving it back to my hard drive will be laborious.
Can someone tell me if Apple has addressed this? Because I don't want to use iTunes at all if it is going to delete files. And I DON'T care if this is some function I'm not aware of. Any software that would delete files, either mistakingly or through some helpful feature is bad software. Deleting files (w/o even sending it to the Trash!) is one function that ought not be automated, or performed by any application other than the OS itself, under direct control from the user. I've turned off the option that lets iTunes manage and 'organize' my music for me. I can do that myself, and I don't like some of the things it does.
I have a friend in the media, and I'm thinking about issuing a press-release on this bug if further research indicates this is a more pervasive problem that Apple is downplaying. Certainly they are aware of it, as others have written on it here and elsewhere.
Can someone from Apple please contact me? I want to know when it is safe to use this program again. This problem is real, and just because it hasn't affected everyone, doesn't mean it has affected someone.

iTunes thinks you have a new computer because you restored the OS. Open iTunes and authorize it to the same account you have on the iPhone. Did you restore your iTunes content from a backup after resetting your computer? Have you been syncing regularly with the computer, and does the iTunes library on the computer contain your apps, music and videos? If so just sync and your content will be removed then restored.
If you have not hopefully you have now learned something. You can recover apps and purchased songs by connecting the phone, without syncing, and choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu.
