Deleting from server with POP

I got my iPhone last week and can't seem to get the email working correctly, not correctly, but how I would prefer it to me. I have set it up as a POP account, and love it as a POP - I get my emails even when my outlook is open, it pushes, everything BUT I set it up to to delete from server when delete from inbox, but yet, when I do delete from the phone, when I open outlook on my computer, the emails still come through from the server. I have also tried the IMAP but don't care for it as much because my emails don't come through if outlook is open, don't push as timely, and if they do, don't alert me as new mail, or with the dot next to them to be unread, unless I have Outlook closed. However, if I delete from phone, it does delete from server. Since I have 'delete from server' setup for POP, does anyone know what I can do to correct this to where it'll work correctly? I would prefer to use POP because I like the way I get my emails on phone even if outlook is open, marked new, and alerted but just want them to go away like the setting says!! I swapped from a Blackberry and when I deleted from BB and server, the emails didn't come through when I opened outlook so I'm definitel used to that feature. Thank you!

Messages are not pushed with a POP account - messages are fetched from the server automatically or manually, and the same with an IMAP account unless the IMAP account supports push access.
The following accounts support Push access for received messages with the iPhone's Mail application.
MobileMe.
A Yahoo account created with the Yahoo account preset, which creates the account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail application along with having Push access for received messages.
An Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync with the Exchange Server.
I have also tried the IMAP but don't care for it as much because my emails don't come through if outlook is open, don't push as timely, and if they do, don't alert me as new mail, or with the dot next to them to be unread, unless I have Outlook closed.
An IMAP account is specifically designed to be accessed with more than one email client with the ability for more than one email client to access the incoming mail server for new messages or access any other server stored mailbox at the same time, so this shouldn't be a problem.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. Two email clients cannot be connected to the incoming mail server for a POP account at the same time, which is supported with an IMAP account.

mail retrieved from pop acct & deleted, and trash emptied, is not deleted from server, so it gets re-retrieved.
settings>delete from server> when removed from inbox, but the msgs are still on the server as viewed from the isp's web interface.

    been there, done that;-}
    Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
    Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net

it seems mail.app is designed for imap, in that msgs can't be deleted when d/l'd by default, but must be config'd "when moved from inbox"

  • IMAP option to not delete from server OR recommend alternate mail app?

Using POP in Windows computer and IMAP on iphone.
In the iphone, POP has the opton to "delete from server: never"
There seems no way to accomplish this in the stock mail app when using IMAP ?
Using POP on the iphone is not an option due to the longstanding issue of the Apple mail apps not sending a  proper termination signal back. The mailbox remains locked until the server times it out for inactivity and cleans up the stale lock after 10 minutes. The result is "wrong password" on the computer if it then tries to retrieve during that period. It's a feature of POP by design to use a lock to prevent corruption caused by simultaneous access to the mailbox. BUT, BB,Android,Windows all handle this correctly so that their POP transaction (and the mailbox lock) only lasts seconds! Only ever see this persistent lock with Apple mail clients
The user likes to keep his phone inbox clean, he will delete messages as he deals with them as well as messages he is postponing to deal with on computer later.
Moving messages to a 'later' folder won't help, as that 'later' folder will not be available thru POP (for the computer)
They also don't want to use IMAP on the computer because they don't want their communications stored on the server any longer than necessary.
    Can anyone recommend:
    - Windows IMAP client which downloads all and keeps a local copy of inbox which does not synch with server inbox.
    - Alternate mail app for iphone which allows "delete from device only // never delete from server "

That's not how IMAP works. If you want to keep the inbox clean, but not delete the messages, create folders and move the messages into them for later review.

  • Verizon mail deleted from server is not deleted from IPAD2 but works fine on Android

I have both an Android phone and an IPAD.  This Android (RAZR) and my previous one (Droid2) worked fine.   Mail deleted from the server is also deleted from the phone.  Deleted from phone would delete from server.  Worked great.  On IPAD, when setting up the Verizon mail account, it defaults to POP and I can set it to delete from server when removed from IPAD.  However, mail deleted from the server is not deleted from the IPAD and so I have to remove it manually (a second time).  Why does it work on Android and not on IPAD?  Settings on Android appear to also be for POP.  Can anyone help with this?  It's too hard to believe that with so many people using IPADs, that this is such a problem.   I've read that Verizon isn't supporting IMAP, but how in the world is the Android phone working?
    MrBigHands

Any mail service POP downloads a copy of the message to the phone. It would then need to be deleted from the device itself. What you are referring to where its deleted in both places is an IMAP type email service.

  • HT2480 email not deleting from server when deleted from ipad

messages are not being deleted from server when deleted from ipad

    Hello,
You need to tell us what the email service is. BES? BIS -- and, if so, what email provider? If BES, then see your BES admins. If BIS, then expect it to function in accordance with this KB.
Otherwise, you can try the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.

  • My deleted emails on iPhone 4s are not being deleted from server

I'm facing a problem with my iPhone 4s when deleting emails. Unfortunately, they are not being deleted from the server. I tried setting the account in pop and imap with settings to delete from server and trash ticked. Still they keep on appearing in Outlook which is a double work to do. Please advise.

I'm no expert by far, but have had issues with this before.
IMAP should allow your iPhone to remove messages from the server.
But have you made sure both the iPhone and Outlook are connecting via IMAP?
If your iPhone does remove the messages from the server, but your computer is using POP, then the computer may download the email before it is removed form the server by your iPhone.
This was my issue, that my computer had already downloaded the message, and POP does not check later if it is deleted.
If you delete a message from Outlook does it disappear on the iPhone?
Alternativly you may need to check the email server settings.
    Who is your email provider?
They may be able to check if IMAP allows you to remove emails.

  • Spam/Junk not deleting from server

Up until recently I have been using Entourage 2004 to view my half dozen different email accounts (some POP, some IMAP). I have a work desktop G5, a traveling MacBookPro and a PowerBook G4 at home. On one particular account the junk has begun flooding in.
In Entourage, I simply clicked on the envelope icon, clicked "delete from server" then deleted it from whichever computer I was running, and never again saw the offending email.
I switched to Mail in Leopard because I felt iSync would be a major help in bringing all computers together. I would have copies of sent mail as well as received mail, and so on.
The problem is: when I delete junk from one computer - it's still there waiting for me on another computer. I know this because if I run Entourage again, all the junk comes pouring back down the line.
How can I delete selected stuff from the servers?
    Cheers,
    SNaP!

I think more of a Mail application issue or a Mail application issue only.
This doesn't resolve the problem, but although a POP account can be accessed with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. This isn't a problem with an IMAP account which is designed for this very thing.
Which Comcast app are you referring to? Is there a Comcast app via the iTunes app store? If so and you want to ensure messages are deleted from the server after being accessed with your iPhone, you need to use the Comcast app.

  • Delete From Server doesn't exist

    Hello.
I've just bought an Ipod Touch, firmware is 2.2.1.
I've set up a Gmail account with it and if I delete a message from it, it also deletes from the server. I don't want to do that...
I've searched a bit and it seems to have a Delete from Server -> Never option, but I wasn't able to find it.
I took a pic from the menu where it's supposed to appear and you can see it here:
    http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5435/itouch.png
    Thank you very much,
    Gabriel.

I could be mistaken, but it looks to me like you have your iPod email set to connect to Gmail as IMAP. If your email account is set up as IMAP, the mail is only and always on the server, so when you delete the email, it's by the nature of how IMAP works deleting it from the server. Only if you have your email set up as a POP account, so that mail is actually downloaded to your iPhone (not just being read from the server), do you get the option to set whether you also want the email deleted from the server.

  • Email downloaded to iPhone is then being deleted from server

I have set the iPhone "Delete from Server" option to "never", but when I download messages to the iPhone, it is still deleting from the server. Incidentally, the same happens for my iPad).
    This is a POP account.
Have I configured something incorrectly or is this a bug?

Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
If you created the account with the Mail app on the iPad or iPhone using the Gmail account preset, the account was created as an IMAP account on the device.
When accessing an account with more than one email client and the email account provider supports IMAP account access, best to access the account as an IMAP account with the email client on your computer (Outlook) and with the Mail app on your iPad and/or iPhone. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account. Send a message with the Mail app on your iPad or iPhone, and the message will be available automatically in the account's Sent mailbox on the other device and available automatically in the account's Sent mailbox when accessing the account with Outlook, and vice-versa. This is what an IMAP account is designed for.
A Gmail account can be accessed as a POP or IMAP account, and now as an Exchange account also with the iPhone's Mail app which provides for Push access with received messages and for syncing your Google online contacts and calendar events over the air with the account on your iPhone.
A POP account is from the early dark ages of email account access with an email client on a computer when most people had access to a single computer and well before there were any phones in the smart phone category and well before there were any handheld cell phones.

  • Can't access the "delete from server" option in AOL mail setting.

iPhone 4s, ios 5.1, Verizon customer. I have never had an issue until this phone. Any ideas why I can see the "delete from server" option, but I can't check it? It's really annoying to delete emails from my phone and then have to go back and delete from my computer.
    Thank you in advance.

Is the email account that has this problem a POP account or IMAP.  If POP, there should be a setting in the account's setting that determines whether an email is deleted from the server when downloaded.  If IMAP than deleting on the device should delete on the server and other devices/computers.  A problem can occur if the other devices have already downloaded the same email that you are trying to delete.  It may take some time for it to delete from other devices.  And some providers have bugs in this process.  My carrier is Verizon, but I never use their email service.

  • Mail not moving messages or deleting from server until application quitted

I have an Outlook.com email account. When I delete messages or move them in Apple Mail, the change is not reflected on the server until I quit the program completely. This isn't happening with other actions. Mail is immediately marked as read or flagged on the server for example. When I move or delete messages in Mail they actually show up in both the original location and the new location until the application is quitted.
Anything I can do to fix this?
    OSX Mavericks 10.9.1
    Apple Mail 7.1

    Hi Thomas
Yes...personal folders are mailboxes I've created to organize my mail. I know as a fact that this messages still are on the server even after moving them to "personal folders". anyway I think i can get around this issue by rightcliking on the account and then getting account information. I can then filter by "removed from my mac". at that stage there's an option to select those messages and "delete from server"...I think this will work...will try now.
    Thanks for your help

  • Email access via POP3 not being deleted from server

I have sync'd my phone to my Verizon.net account and everything seems to work great... except one thing.  When I delete the email from my phone a copy of it still stays on the server.  Unfortunately it is the Droid X and unlike the blackberry it does not give me the option to select to delete it from the mailbox as well.  Is there any way to make a setting on my verizon.net account that will provide for better sync'ing?  I would like to have my email both on my PC and on my phone - but the point of accessing my email on the phone is so that I can delete the junk and keep what I need to ... this is making me have to do the work twice.
PS I searched through the threads for a similar issue and only came across one.  However, the topic was closed by an admin stating that the issue belongs in the wireless community.  I'm not sure I agree with this only because the issue has to do with accessing verizon.net mail via POP3 more than it does with the phone being used to access it (I would think anyway).  In any case if anyone has some input on this I would appreciate it.

AFAIK, the device in question would have to "delete from server when deleted". The web page (server) has no way to know when you delete it from the phone. The computer can do this, but without that feature on the droid, I think your stuck.

  • Some messages not deleted from server after downloading

We have about 1,000 mail users, all of whom use Apple's Mail app to retrieve their mail using POP. We've seen users' mailboxes on the server where not all messages have been deleted after downloading, even though the user's app has been configured to delete messages immediately after downloading. The strange thing is, undeleted messages appear in large non-contiguous blocks of time. Like there will be 100 messages from January, then 250 from July, and so forth.
Has anyone seen this behavior? Can anyone help me a) understand why this is happening and b) how to fix it? Thanks in advance to whoever can help.

Thanks- but I don't want the messages deleted when they are deleted from my Mac, I want them deleted when I download them. However, I just found the setting so I'm fine.
    Thanks, again!
set delete from server when deleted from my mac in mail preferences
And if you want you could tell us a little more - like what type of account, what settings, etc

    Hi,
I just worked on same functionality where i used a button to create excel file with context data and save in local system.
Use the following code under a button, So on click of button you can directly get the excel file saved in to your desktop without saving on the server
    String ordcaeno="000"sysdate".XLS";
    String str = "";
    for(int j = 0; j< wdContext.nodeZflash_File().size(); j++)

    window.show();

Hey rbrylawski, just wanted to let you know that my ipad email problems have been solved. Called Apple Sup in OZ, I'm in NZ. Daniel Barber was the support tech from heaven!! I was about to return the ipad but solving this issue reset my faith in phone support.....perhaps until I call a differnet companys phone support eh? Anyhow, for reference the fix is below.  My accounts are all POP not IMAP, and the primary smtp server setting had defaulted to have SSL switched on and the port was set to 5XX (something, cant remember). Anyhow, SSL was switched off and the port was swithced to 25. VOILÀ!!  Settings/Mail, contacts, calendars/My POP mail account/smtp/primary server/ >>> server on, no username and password,  use SSL off,  no authentication,  Server Port 25  Thanks for having a crack at it. This might help when assisting another user. Cheers Tonino
